We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. Out of three potential
posters and magazine
covers our piers and
teacher gave feedback on
our individual work.
We placed the three of
each on the table and
rotated in groups giving
anonymous feedback on
each others work.
We come to the
conclusion through
feedback that a simple
format should be used for
both poster and cover
keeping in theme with the
simplistic techniques of
sight and sound.
Through using feedback as navigation for
which route to take we were able to gain
an understanding of what the audience
prefer to see and which material creates
the greater impact, be it simple or not.
3. For our first edit of our teaser posters we tried two very different
approaches and asked for feed back to choose the more appropriate of
the two.
The first of the two was a very
simple picture of the character
staring at the camera against a
plain background, the image was
darkened through affect to create
a bleak look reflecting the theme.
The second consistent of many
images of the trailer collaged into
a blurred image, this was also
used through an edited effect and
allowed us to create one image of
the main parts of our trailer.
4. From the two edits, our audience feedback showed that the more
simplistic effect had a greater impact, the use of one clear image edited
with a bleak surrounding darkness created a better response and so we
decided to use this.
We also got feedback from an
outside source; a girl in our sixth
form named Lily Evans. “The first
image was the better out of the two
because the anger showed in Jon’s
eyes and the fact they cropped the
photo and focused in on the eyes
and sams got a big cock”
5. In order to create the „Sight and Sound‟ magazine cover for our
campaign, we used two main programmes. Ribbet and Paintshop Pro
7. These allowed us to crop the original photo to a suitable size. From
this we could also add effects such as black and white, extra black and
white and Holga-ish. After this the programmes then allowed us to add
pugs and cover lines where needed.
6. We only did one edit for a
magazine cover due to the fact
that our first edit seemed to gain
positive feedback from our
target audience which in this
case were members of our
media class. We used sufficient
research and planning to
ensure that the first edit of our
magazine would be the only
one needed.
There were also various
sources of feedback from
teachers including Miss
Durkin and Mr Todd. Their
feedback was the most valid
as they had worked with
many other ‘Sight and Sound’
recreations from classes
before. They came to the
conclusion that we had
followed the rule of thirds
idea for the layout of the
cover.
7. We decided to go with the idea of My Name Is Jon as it is very relevant in
today‟s society with numerous child abduction cases in the news on a daily
basis. We wanted to take precautious steps when dealing with such a
sensitive subject as it can be vulgar if portrayed wrong. However we felt that
it conveyed different characteristics of a thriller being unique in the style of
darkness used.
We chose not to go with the typical conventions of a teaser trailer as the
narrative of the film is not the typical thriller. We wanted to show a sense of
normality about the trailer as we feel that society is becoming desensitised to
the subject.
8. Our main feedback method for the idea of the thriller teaser trailer
was a self feedback group activity. We all drew spider diagrams
and had input on basic ideas we thought could work well. From
this we each chose our favourite idea and continued to develop
three separate ideas which we posted on our blogs. From this our
group came together as a vote and decided to continue and
expand on the idea of My Name Is Jon.
9. Sophie Barker - Sophie told us
that the darkness of the poster
reflected the theme and
narrative very well. She said that
our use of plain background and
shadows allowed us to portray
this.
Rachel Gande - Rachel thought that our
poster was simple yet creative. She
liked how we used very little words yet
conveyed the theme of the film through
use of colour or lack of it. She liked how
we used the same image from our
magazine to create a mysterious look to
the character through use of shadowing
edits etc.
10. Steph Hawkins - Steph thought that the
magazine cover was set out in the same
conventions as a typical sight and sound
magazine. She said that the image was
positioned the same as many other
characters would have been positioned and
the pugs/cover lines were appropriate to the
new style of Sight and Sound covers. Amy Holt - Amy said
that using sight and
sound instead of others
such as Empire showed
the small independent
type of film it was. It
also reflected the
seriousness of the
narrative and themes
being portrayed.
11. Mr Lall - Mr Lall said that we
managed to understate the
trailer well and create a good
enigma for the audience about
the unravelling of the plot. He
also said that we didn‟t give too
much information away about
the character or narrative,
adding to the „tease‟ of the
teaser trailer.
Mr Farnsworth - Mr Farnsworth
told us in his own words that
“They Nailed It”, After he had
already seen other films and
trailers conveying the same
context as ours. He said that the
way we used simplistic shots
adapted the ideas of a normal
thriller.
