Treatment
1. TREATMENT
For the final section of the development stage, we were
required to present our final concept on sugar paper which
had to include all the relevant information about our horror
film. This includes features such as the synopsis, working
title, locations, props and character profiles to give the
audience a basic idea of what the film is about and what it
will include. We also included our film influences which will
play a huge role in the development of our film and
theories such a todorov our treatment generally covers
burton's theory. We used these theories to cover the
beginning, middle and end of the film as well as the
difference between each of the characters. I was in
charge of making our treatment look as creative as
possible whilst the rest of us worked on different ways to
apply the theories to our film and develop the character
profiles and narrative. we also included our production
team logo so that we are recognized by our target
audience.
2. •
MOVIE TITLE:
• the title of our film is Possession which has been made pretty clear as it is the central piece of text on
the page. our choice of font for the film title is quite basic as we chose to give the title a modern look
to it which our target audience might actually prefer. to make it more appealingly and personal
4. We put the film influence at the top left hand side of the
poster as we thought that they were extremely important
and played a huge part in the development of our concept.
We presented 3 images of the movies that inspired us
which are:
1. gallows 2. insidious
3. the awakening
5. this covers the beginning, middle and end
of our film with a brief description. in
todorov's theory, the beginning is known as
the 'equilibrium' which is described as the
initial situation. the middle section is called
the 'disequilibrium' which is when the
balance of the initial situation is disrupted
by a problem/unusual event and the end of
the film is the 'resolution' which is when the
problem is then solved, allowing the
reinstatement of the initial situation (the
equilibrium).
TODOROV'S THEORY
6. synopsis
we stuck with the structure and main story line of my own
narrative but also included aspects of the initial synopsis
narrative a bit more intriguing as it would include more
frightening events; making the audience feel uneasy.
Baseline is that there was a girl who had died in that house
that they are moving in to. No one knows how but they know
her name was Caitlyn - (was 17) just around the same age of
the new girl moving in, Katy, who happens to also be 17.
Caitlyn is trying to take over the girl’s body and possess it as
her own. She is trying to take Katy’s soul / life and make it her
own.
7. This section included our main locations where we plan on filming our horror trailer. it
included areas such a run down house which is our location for part of the equilibrium
where the hauntings is most likely to be where the disequilibrium takes place. we also
stated that our target audience is young adults from the age of 15+ so we know exactly
what to include in our trailer to intrigue them and who we could be going to for answers
when it comes to the audience research.
8. • on our treatment, we stated that our theme was survival as our
protagonists seeks survival as they try to escape from the possession.
also, the sub-genre for our horror film is ‘psychological’ so for our
final products, we would need to incorporate as many pop-ups as
possible and include scary, creepy and frightening scenes as we are
capable of creating. this way, we would be able to appeal to our
target audience more.
9. evidently, we carried out several experiments, trying to
make our logo look as eye catching as possible. after the
first two drafts, we had established the main idea for our
logo which is the circular element with scratches in it to
emphasize our production team name but we thought that
they looked a bit boring and not eye-catching enough so
we did more drafts. for the third draft, we changed the font
completely and made the background slightly darker but
then the red font was quite difficult to see so we changed
it to white. however, after a few weeks, we got some
feedback on our logo and we were told that the scratches
within the font was a bit too much as there were already
scratches in the background so we changed the font
again. we think our final logo would appeal to our target
audience as it is very simply and is easily recognizable.
