2. Main Headline
‘The Gospel According to Nicki
Minaj’ – This doesn't’t give the
audience to much information
about the page it is there to tease
them as it has no description. It is
the biggest text on the page which
makes it stand out. It has two
contrasting fonts, in order for it to
catch the audiences attention. The
artist name is in a bold pink font,
whereas the writing above is in a
script font which makes it look
handwritten and therefore
showing off a unique font which
audiences like to see. The headline
is there to create an atmosphere
for the entire piece, so as it is in
two different fonts its making the
piece look interesting and
different.
Image
The image is the biggest feature on the
page, and it looks bold and fun, which
clearly represents the ‘pop’ genre of
music being featured. Also the piece
looks more visual due to the picture and
this helps to attract the audience. The
artist is wearing bright pink lipstick
which compliments the pink on the
main headline and the colour of the
background. The artist is wearing bold,
unique costume and jewelry which is
portraying the exacting and fun tone of
the page. The image also uses direct
address, which could intrigue the reader
as they may feel like they have a more
personal relationship towards the artist.
The image also has a bleeding effect
where it carry's on onto both pages so it
highlights that the main image is the
main focus.
Colour
The main colours used are pink, black and white. The pink
makes the magazine look girly and feminine which would
attract the younger audience of girls who are interested in her
music and fits in with the ‘pop’ genre of music. The pink and
black contrast well with each other and it makes the text
throughout the page stand out. The bolder black text shows
that’s an important part of the page as they grabbing the
audiences attention quicker than the black standard text.
Insert
The insert is a piece of text different to the entire piece of text on the page.
This one is in white and black text and highlighted pink which makes it
stand out from the rest. As its trying to have the effect of being sectioned
off it automatically draws your eye line towards it. In this insert it’s a quote
from Nicki Minaj linking to what the entire piece of text is about.
Drop Caps
It is the first letter of the paragraph ‘W’ and its used to show the audience
where they need to start reading. The drop cap is very significant as it is
bigger, bolder and in a different colour than the standard text so that it
stands out.
3. Stand First
The stand first on the page is
underneath the main headline
and just before the main body of
text this is so it grabs the
audiences attention straight
after they’ve read the main
headline. The stand first is there
to give the audience more
information than the main
headline but still tease them as
they want them to buy the
magazine and read on. It’s brief
introduction of what the main
text is going to be about and it
gets straight to the point so it
doesn't’t bore the audience
straight away, but it still
doesn't’t give too much away.
Body
The body is the most important
thing on the page and this body
starts underneath the main headline
and the stand first but still on the
first half of the page. This is what
the headline and stand first build
the audience up for as it’s the last
piece of text they see due to it being
smaller and more of it, it isn't
automatically drawn to their eye
line like the main headline as its
colourful and in a much bigger font.
Artists Name
The artists name is positioned at the bottom of the picture so if the
audience didn’t know who it was then underneath the artist it would
tell the audience who they are. It isn't the biggest piece of text on
the page but it still stands out as its been sectioned in a black box
and in white writing which stands out to the audience.
Layout
The layout of the page has been separated into columns which makes it
easier for the audience to read and navigate around it. It’s a simple
structure and it gives the audience an illusion that there is less text than
there actually is as its separated into different sections.
Main Headline
The main headline is the largest font on the page and the
audience are instantly drawn to it due to it being bold and
colourful. It also attracts the audience as it’s a rhetorical question
and this engages the audience straight way with the page.
Bleeding Effect
On this page part of the headline
has gone over to the other page,
this makes it clearer to the audience
that the picture links to the headline
as they meet with one another. This
also identifies a main focus on the
page to the audience, which is the
headline and picture as one.
