Evaluation Question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts. By Sian Tillett
Our Media Product The biggest part of our full music video experience was the construction. We spend the majority of the time and effort into making our music video. It is very important for a music video to relate to the song and to also help sell it. If we chose to make a love story or a emotional video to go with our song we probably would not have got the feedback that we did. We chose to make our video abstract and exciting because we felt it complimented the song. We tried to make it lively and enjoyable just like how the song makes you feel.  We wanted our music video to be different, unique and memorable. This would help it get a lot of attention and hopefully people would know about it through ‘word of mouth’. After the video we had to make a digipak and advert (ancillary products) and we wanted these to continue on the same ideas and energy as on our music video.
Digipak For our digipak we focused on still images from the music video. We believed that having real photos from the actually music video it would relate to the audience and help them get a rough picture of what is going on. We wanted to do this to help our sales in the retail industry. They can get an idea of what our music video is about without even seeing it. Also we are hoping that it is a reminder for those who have already seen it. This image was our front cover. I like this image as it is simple but powerful. You get to see the artist straight away and with his guitar you know he is a talented young man. This is our back cover. This image was taken from a shot in the actual music video. This image was used because it is completely different from the front cover and shows that our video doesn’t have a basic story line and is random.
Our Digipak photos Here are the rest of our images that we used in our digipak. Again, all images are taken from our music video.
Similarities
Advert The next step for us was to create an advert. It is vital to make the advert eye catching and appealing to the target audience. This is what is going to boost your sales. Because of the randomness of our video we decided to mix it up abit and to not use pictures from the music video like we had before. These images are still simple but are also effective because they tell you the song title without any addition text.
Advert - continued With the help from photo shop, we added some effects to the photos. Making some black and white while making others look old fashion with the sepia effect. This worked well because it matched our digipak. We put the three pictures together, with the ‘Bob Dylan’ theme, to create and abstract way of telling the target audience the title. We have made sure there is information on there in order to give the target audience different ways of getting hold of our CD.

  • 1. Evaluation Question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts. By Sian Tillett
  • 2. Our Media Product The biggest part of our full music video experience was the construction. We spend the majority of the time and effort into making our music video. It is very important for a music video to relate to the song and to also help sell it. If we chose to make a love story or a emotional video to go with our song we probably would not have got the feedback that we did. We chose to make our video abstract and exciting because we felt it complimented the song. We tried to make it lively and enjoyable just like how the song makes you feel. We wanted our music video to be different, unique and memorable. This would help it get a lot of attention and hopefully people would know about it through ‘word of mouth’. After the video we had to make a digipak and advert (ancillary products) and we wanted these to continue on the same ideas and energy as on our music video.
  • 3. Digipak For our digipak we focused on still images from the music video. We believed that having real photos from the actually music video it would relate to the audience and help them get a rough picture of what is going on. We wanted to do this to help our sales in the retail industry. They can get an idea of what our music video is about without even seeing it. Also we are hoping that it is a reminder for those who have already seen it. This image was our front cover. I like this image as it is simple but powerful. You get to see the artist straight away and with his guitar you know he is a talented young man. This is our back cover. This image was taken from a shot in the actual music video. This image was used because it is completely different from the front cover and shows that our video doesn’t have a basic story line and is random.
  • 4. Our Digipak photos Here are the rest of our images that we used in our digipak. Again, all images are taken from our music video.
  • 6. Advert The next step for us was to create an advert. It is vital to make the advert eye catching and appealing to the target audience. This is what is going to boost your sales. Because of the randomness of our video we decided to mix it up abit and to not use pictures from the music video like we had before. These images are still simple but are also effective because they tell you the song title without any addition text.
  • 7. Advert - continued With the help from photo shop, we added some effects to the photos. Making some black and white while making others look old fashion with the sepia effect. This worked well because it matched our digipak. We put the three pictures together, with the ‘Bob Dylan’ theme, to create and abstract way of telling the target audience the title. We have made sure there is information on there in order to give the target audience different ways of getting hold of our CD.
