A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
1. MBA in
India 101
[Disclamer: this
presentation is not done to
advertise any website,
institute or book; it has
been written purely as per
personal experience.]
2. Why MBA?
● Any graduate from any stream is eligible to apply for an MBA.
● Why do people do MBA these days?
1. To change their line
2. For a better position and package
3. To get a fast growth in their career.
3. Types of MBA
● Part time- for working professionals; usually a 3 year course held during the
evenings or weekends. (no placement support mostly)
● Full time- 2 years full time course in a single or dual specialization(most popular)
● Executive mba- one year mba for 4 to 5 years experienced.(available at very select
insitutes including IIMs); usually taken with CAT, GMAT
4. MBA VS PGDM
● Basically the same.
● MBA is granted by university & PGDM is granted
by autonomus colleges.
● If one wishes to persue P.hD later on then do
check if the governament has granted the
autonomus college it’s PGDM course “equivalent
to MBA”, otherwise there is no problem.
● If the autonomus insitute’s PGDM is not granted
“equivalent to MBA”, and the student wishes to
persue P.hD later then please do check for other
options.
5. Which exams to take?
● There are numerous entrance exams:
● CAT{ conducted by IIM}
● XAT {conducted by XLRI}
● CMAT {conducted by AICTE}
● MAT {conducted by AIMA}
● SNAP { conducted by Symbiosys}
● IIFT { conducted by IIFT Delhi & Kolkata}
[SNAP & IIFT are insitute specific tests]
● MAH-CAT (state exam for Maharastra
colleges)
6. ● Except for IIM, XLRI & institute specific tests; other colleges will not shortlist
you for the GD/PI rounds unless you apply on their website with your exam
details.
● Ideally a student should attempt 3 exams. That would be sufficient.
● MAT is conducted 4 times a year ( sep, dec, feb & may) {suggest you not to
wait till may}
7. What's for the exam?
● All MBA entrance exams contain:
1. aptitude( i.e maths)
2. English
3. Logical reasoning
4. Data interpretation
5. G.K.
(3 & 4 are mixed together in some exams)
(5 is only required in CMAT & SNAP)
(MAT & XAT have G.K section but are not counted
in the percentile section.
8. Preparation
● For students:
Students in their final year of graduation need around minimum 4-5 months of good
preparation
● For working professionals:
Ideally should start a year prior as taking out time to prepare is difficult.
9. branch
The major branches for MBA are normally:
1. Marketing
2. Finance
3. HR
4. Operations
New branches have also come up in the last few years like-
1. Rural
2. International business
3. Agriculture
4. IT
(Not all colleges provide these branches)
mant colleges provide dual specialization and there you have to select your
choice after 1st year.
10. concepts
With the rise of internet concepts are available at a tap.
1. You tube
2. Slideshare
3. Unacademy
And many more.
11. Practice
● One can practice by buying a old question papers collection book available at
shops/ flipkart/amazon
● 2nd option is to buy the online test series offered by various coaching institutes like
TIME, career launcher etc.
● Practice is the key.
12. Exam day
On the exam day,
● Make sure you reach on time
● Remember to take your hall ticket
● Carry on stationary
● Keep calm
● Do not try to observe others.
● Read the question carefully
13. College selection
● After you give all your exams; in the month of December end till february the
college websites would put on their applications.
● As said earlier one has to apply to the colleges of their interest.
● The applications cost ranges from 500-1700rs
● One might be geographically bound with the selection of colleges; make sure you
take the best within your bounds.
14. College selection
● There are about more than 1000 institutes offering
MBA/PGDM.
● How to shortlist them.
● Well if you are geographically bound, budget
bound or specific to any specialization( like
finance or HR) then shortlist according to that.
● Every year top 100 MBA colleges list are given by
various organizations like TOI,DSIJ etc.
● And also do check if the college if it is AICTE or
UGC approved.
15. ● Also look at these websites for reviews.
https://www.careers360.com/
https://www.shiksha.com/
https://collegedunia.com/
Keep in mind that hostel expenses are not to be compared among colleges.
The cost of living is different for different cities.
And when you see the course fees check what all facilities are offered.
16. ● 90% of the insitutues except for IITs or IIMs
are situated in:
● Mumbai
● Pune
● Bangalore
● Hyderabad
● Chennai
● Delhi
● Kolkata
17. Work experienced
● If anyone has work experience then please do make sure that before you leave the
organization get a certificate from your higher authority which states that you have
worked in which position; duration; time.
18. Interview: GD
● Group discussion
● Ideally 8-10 people in a group.
● Keep updated with the latest nnews the topics usually revolves around it.
● Make sure to speak within the 1st 45 seconds of the GD to mark your
presence.
● GD is the main deciding factor, so be careful.
19. Interview- WAT
WAT- written aptitude test.
It is not taken by all colleges.
10-15 minutes time to write on a given topic.
20. PI Tips
Prepare general Interview questions. You would find loads on the internet.
Don't let your answers sound that you are reciting.
Also revise your graduation basics.
Likely chances of finding an interviewer with the same background as yours.
BBA guys be sure to be asked about your BBA specialisation.
B.tech guys 90% chance you would find that the intetviewer is also an engineer.
Work ex guys, you would be mostly asked about your job.
21. Calls/sms/emails/mails
● Your inbox is likely going to be filled with messages from colleges asking you to
apply
● You can even get hard letters from institutes.
● Do not change your mind.
● You have already made a list of colleges you want to approach.
22. MAKE UP YOUR MIND
● One thing very student who is going to study MBA has to make up their mind that
MBA is not an easy course.
● One has to work hard and smart.
● Once the course starts; the placements would start after 12 to 13 months. So hardly
any time is there.
23. MBA TIMELINE
● Course starts in June-July 2019
● 1st year ends: march-april 2020
● Internship: april-may or may-june 2020
● 2nd year starts: june/july 2020
● Course ends: march-april 2021
(taking 2019-21 batch)
● PGDM usually has trimester system;
● MBA usually has semester system
● So the MBA course is hardly 22 months
24. Some points to note
In the first year if your MBA, one has to learn numerous subjects from all fields of
management.
Even if you are a marketing student, you have to study operations in the first year.
Its all basics
The interviews during placement asks questions on the 1st year portions.
And believe me. One has to learn as everything in mangement is connected.
25. Resume/CV workout
● Once you start the course; most of you will find
that your CV/Resume is blank. So how to enrich it
before the placements start?
● Look for opportunites:
1. Join any student club of your college.
2. Participate in competions
3. Apply for virtual internships
Check the next slide for some useful links.

27. Myths
#1 MBA is only good for BBA or B.tech:
That is not true, even B.A, B.Sc, B.com students do extremely well.
BBA students have a bit of edge than others; but only for the 1st year.
#2 work experience students take away the best job offers.
Not true. Depends on recruiter whether they want a fresher or experienced.
28. #3 marks are useless.
MBA 1st year marks matter till you are placed at first.(more than 70%; it’s brillant)
10,12, graduation marks would not affect much.
