Banana Bunchy Top Disease
Banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) is one of the most serious diseases of banana. It is difficult to eradicate once established. BBTV symptoms initially appear as dark green streaks in the veins of banana leaves. Later, leaves emerge narrower than normal with yellow margins and are stiff, erect, and bunched at the top of the plant. The virus spreads through propagation materials and by the banana aphid acquiring the virus after feeding on infected plants. Severely infected plants often do not fruit, and fruit that does form is distorted and twisted. Control measures include using virus-free materials, removing infected plants, and insecticidal soaps, though insecticides have little effect on virus spread.

This document describes a study that developed a PCR-based method for detecting Colletotrichum acutatum, an economically important plant pathogenic fungus that causes anthracnose disease in strawberries. Researchers designed species-specific PCR primers targeting the internal transcribed spacer region of the fungal DNA. Testing of the primers demonstrated that one primer successfully amplified a 490bp fragment specific to C. acutatum isolates without amplifying other Colletotrichum species. This primer was then able to detect C. acutatum DNA directly from infected strawberry leaves.

This study examined the effects of jojoba seed extract and riboflavin on preventing transmission of Iris Yellow Spot Virus (IYSV) by Thrips tabaci to onion plants. IYSV is an important virus affecting onion crops worldwide, including in Egypt where it was first reported infecting onions in 2004. Thrips tabaci is the main vector of IYSV. The study tested different concentrations of jojoba seed extract and riboflavin alone or in combination on T. tabaci adults to determine their ability to prevent transmission of IYSV to onion plants. Results showed that certain concentrations of the extracts were able to significantly reduce transmission of the virus compared to the control treatment.

Eggplant is prone to attack by several pests including bacteria, fungi, nematodes and insects. In this study, we have analyzed phylotype of bacterial wilt Ralstonia solanacearum infection in eggplant plants collected from Bhubaneswar Orissa in India. Bacterial wilt symptomatic five plant samples were collected from brinjal field in Bhubaneswar in 2016. The samples were macerated in sterile distilled water and grown on Kelman's triphenyltetrazolium chloride TZC agar media. Total genomic DNA of the bacterium were extracted and subjected to PCR amplification using the R. solanacearum specific universal primer pair 759 760. An expected single 280 bp fragment amplified in all the samples confirmed the identity of these as Ralstonia. To reconfirmed isolate of bacterium, the amplicon was sequenced in sequencer. In NCBI blast, the nucleotide sequence was 100 similar with Ralstonia solanacearum strain RS lpxC DOB 1 AB910593 and the sequence was submitted in NCBI database under Acc. No. KY393266. To determined phylotype of strain used specific multiplex PCR with phylotype specific primers Nmult 21F1 2, Nmult 22InF, Nmult 23AF, Nmult 22RR revealed that all the five infected samples belonged to phylotype I as a 144 bp amplicon were observed in agarose gel. On the basis of above finding concluded that the bacterial wilt infected eggplant collected from Bhubaneswar was Ralostonia solanacearum, Phylotype I. The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
