  • 1.   Finding  Passive  Candidates  By  Targeting  Filetypes   Talent42  Sourcing  Roundtable  ■  June  9-­‐10,  2015       5  TIPS  FOR  SEARCHING  ON  FILETYPE:                                                                               1   2   3   4   5   Contact  Information     Recruiting  Toolbox,  Inc.   www.recruitingtoolbox.com       Matt  Grove   Principal   matt@recruitingtoolbox.com   If  we  search  for  resumes  in  a  search  engine,  we  can  narrow  our  results  to  only  those  types   of  files  that  are  common  resume  formats.  Common  file  types  for  resume  are:  PDF,  DOC,   DOCX,  HTML,  HTM,  and  PHP.     We  can  also  search  for  attendee  lists  for  conferences,  events,  and  meetings  of  talented   tech  people.     “software  development”  attendees  (intitle:directory  OR  inurl:directory  OR  intitle:list  OR   inurl:list  OR  intitle:roster  OR  inurl:roster)  @microsoft.com   Attendee  and  member  lists  are  very  often  saved  in  Excel,  we  can  use  a  search  string  with  a   command  to  specifically  target  Excel  files  like  in  this  sample:       filetype:xls  (attendees  OR  members  OR  participants)  (roster  OR  list)  Keyword  1  Keyword  2   Search  for  content  by  doing  an  image  search  in  your  favorite  browser.  Image  searches  are   simple  and  quick.    Use  some  quick  keywords  and  adjust  a  setting  to  only  show  pictures  of   faces  –  that  way  you  get  real  people.       There’s  even  a  handy  Chrome  extension  from  Google  or  a  reverse  image  search  by  TinEye.   If  you  want  to  find  out  more  about  attendees  at   conferences  and  events,  be  sure  to  use  sites  like   Meetup.com  and  Lanyrd.com  to  see  who  is  attending   and  speaking  all  kinds  of  conferences  worldwide.     You  can  also  use  sites  like  CardBrowser.com,  if  you   don’t  mind  paying  for  the  information.
