This document defines and provides examples for different types of discrimination. It defines direct discrimination with the example of Stephen Lawrence's racist murder. It defines indirect discrimination as unfair treatment that is difficult to prove, positive discrimination as giving special treatment due to group membership, and discrimination arising from disability as negative treatment due to mental or physical differences. It also defines protected characteristics as attributes one cannot be discriminated against for, stereotyping as making wrong judgments based on stereotypes, and positive stereotyping, though this term is incorrectly defined.
