Direct discrimination … is when a person or group experience outright,
targeted discrimination.

Example: The Stephen Lawrence family experienced an extreme case direct
discrimination. Stephen was targeted by white youth in a racist attack and
lost his life.

Indirect discrimination

Example:… is when an individual or group is treated unfairly, but in a way that
is hard to pinpoint. You want to say they are being discriminated against but
it is hard to prove.

Positive discrimination

Example: discrimination legislation says it is ok to positively discriminate if
the group is under-represented and need facilities to access work



Discrimination arising from disability

Example: is when a person or group is treated in a negative way because they
are different mentally or physically.

Protected characteristics

Example: is when you can’t discriminate someone because of their race, age,
sexuality, gender reassignment, pregnancy, religious beliefs, gender or
sexual orientation.

Stereotyping

Example: is when everyone thinks differently about each other and are
always thinking about the race and culture.
Positive stereotyping

Example: is when you mistakenly label a person or a group of people in a nice
way do to common cultural myths.

Direct discrimination … is when a person or group experience outright, targeted discrimination. Example: The Stephen Lawrence family experienced an extreme case direct discrimination. Stephen was targeted by white youth in a racist attack and lost his life. Indirect discrimination Example:… is when an individual or group is treated unfairly, but in a way that is hard to pinpoint. You want to say they are being discriminated against but it is hard to prove. Positive discrimination Example: discrimination legislation says it is ok to positively discriminate if the group is under-represented and need facilities to access work Discrimination arising from disability Example: is when a person or group is treated in a negative way because they are different mentally or physically. Protected characteristics Example: is when you can’t discriminate someone because of their race, age, sexuality, gender reassignment, pregnancy, religious beliefs, gender or sexual orientation. Stereotyping Example: is when everyone thinks differently about each other and are always thinking about the race and culture. Positive stereotyping Example: is when you mistakenly label a person or a group of people in a nice way do to common cultural myths.
