lost his life.
Indirect discrimination… is when an individual or group is treated unfairly
but in a way that is hard to pinpoint. You want to say they are being
discriminated against but it is hard to prove.
Example: some act racist towards others
The police took a while to investigate Stephen Lawrence’s death because
they assumed he was part of a gang when actually academic, because he was
black.
Positive discriminationIs when a person or group is given special treatment
because they come from that group.
Example: If some children need some extra help.
Discrimination arising from disability Is when a person or group is treated in
a negative way because they are different mentally or physically
Example: When some children with disability or old people, are not treated
right.
Protected characteristicsDiscrimination legislation says it is ok to positively
discriminate if the group is under-represented and need facilities to access
work. It is also when you can’t discriminate someone because of his or her
race, age, sexuality, gender reassignment, pregnancy, religious beliefs,
gender or sexual orientation.
Example: Work places need to treat people that work there fair, so no racist
comments, no bullying, no gender bullying ect.
Stereotypingis when you mistakenly label a person or a group of people in a
nice way does to common cultural myths.
Example: Being Blind, saying deaf and blond are dumb.
Positive stereotyping … is when you mistakenly label a person or a group of
