Research Paper On Eveline
Death Lingers In Her Eyes James Joyce s Eveline establishes a diverse, variety of notions, one of
which persists that music plays a significant role pertaining to Eveline s happiness, he also depicts
her struggle to feel alive inside, and her internal battle between duty and love.
Music has been a singular joy in Eveline s life. When Eveline s dear mother lie on her deathbed
she seemed to only become worse after the organ player had been ordered to go away and given
sixpence, by her father. (Joyce) The music tinkling up from the street helped distract her family
from the somber event holding the house captive. Once the music had been chased out, death
persisted leaving nothing behind besides the dregs of life. She and her sweetheart, Frank, ... Show

She hankers for a happy life with Frank where her father cannot find her, where she will be
respected and loved, in a place where she can escape her depression filled existence in Dublin.
Every day at home, she had hard work to keep the house together and to see that the two young
children who had been left to her charge went to school regularly and got their meals regularly.
(Joyce) This task of raising the children comes riddled with responsibility and subsists as
something she knows would not be tended to rightly if she were to leave them alone with her
father. Not to mention, her father was becoming old lately. (Joyce) Eveline remains accustomed
to this mediocre life that it suggests she does not desire to leave by virtue of her fear to start
over in Buenos Ayres. As a result, she rationalizes her drunken father s behavior by remembering
past attributes: sometimes he could be very nice. (Joyce) She often reflects on her promise to her
mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could. (Joyce) She would feel
guilty to leave and live for herself and select herself for once in her life! Eveline shows no mercy
towards her own person, she could convince herself to stay without any outside input, just by reason
of her self induced obligation to be the glue holding her family together while the pressure tears at
her sanity. She even imagines her mother saying, Derevaun Seraun! Derevaun Seraun! meaning in
Irish Gaelic, at the dissolution of pleasure, there remains pain.

James Douglas Short Essay
My intention with the story I told was to talk on the brief period in former world heavyweight
champion James Douglas s life, circa 1993 1994, where he was indulging after getting a twenty
four million dollar payday for his only championship defense against Evander Holyfield, a fight he
lost by third round stoppage. Much exists on his stunning victory over unbeaten champion Mike
Tyson and the comatose state he slipped into after the post boxingindulgence saw his weight
escalate to four hundred pounds. The comatose state motivated him to get back into fighting shape
upon waking up and make another run at the heavyweight crown, a comeback in which he went
eight and one, losing only to Lou Savarese. But little exists detailing the short span in which he
lived in luxury. I wanted to try to depict the things he did to occupy his time after losing the title....

I remembered how James Tillis, in his 2000 autobiography Thinkin Big, mentioned he got
robbed several times via awful luck and judges scorecards against top flight competition,
including a young Tyson climbing up the rankings; the real fight films told a much different
story, in particular his title match against WBA champion Mike Weaver (he claimed to have won
eleven rounds [the fight got scheduled for fifteen], but spent at least half the fight backpedaling
and clinching). So I went with third person limited. I tried to write as an unbiased sportswriter
who did not know Douglas on a personal level, a total outsider who was getting a glimpse into the
former champ s private life and impossible to blackmail or bribe into deception by

Robber Barons or Not? The 19th century, the industrial revolution. These were times times of new

order to do so, dominated with wealth. However they ruled with social respect. These powerful men
were mistaken for robber barons, unscrupulous plutocrats that gain a fortune through ruthless

Developing An Individual s Identity In I Stand Here Ironing
More significantly, one s past memories do develop an individual s identity because past memories
alter future perceptions of specific events/actions. In I Stand Here Ironing , an unknown character
refers to the mother that the daughter is a youngster who needs help . The daughter, Emily, was
said to be having problems. The unknown character thinks that Emily s mothercan help with the
situation. The mother believes that it is her fault the daughter is in need of help. The mother
remembered that when Emily was younger, she had not spent much time with. ... she was 8 months
old I had to leave her day times with women downstairs... (Olsen 1). The author shows how the

The Future Of The European Union
What the framework of our constitution can do is organize the way in which we argue about our
future. All of its elaborate machinery its separation of powers and checks and balances and
federalist principles and Bill of Rights are designed to force us into a conversation, a deliberative
democracy in which all citizens are required to engage in a process of testing their ideas against an
external reality, persuading others of their point of view, and building shifting alliances of consent.
Barack Obama, 2006 1.0Introduction
In the past years, the possible future of the European Union (EU) has been of increasing interest to
social and political scientists as well as the public. Since 2008, the EU has experienced events such
as the economic crisis and the 2014 European Parliament election, which have fostered intense
debates around the legitimising basis of the EU (Zielonka, 2014). Furthermore, with the election of
David Cameron in the 2015 United Kingdom general election even the possibility of the United
Kingdom leaving the EU has been discussed. Although many social and political scientists do not
believe such a scenario (REFERENCE), one could argue that there is an increasing need for the EU
to redefine itself in order not to experience a genuine downfall . Consequently, an alternative theory
of EU integration challenging the classical intergovernmental and neofunctional understandings of
the EU has gained increasing support among political scientists.

Is It Better To Grow Up In A Small Town Essay
Some believe it is better to grow up in a big city. However it is more beneficial to grow up in a
small town. Rural communities have a lot to offer. It offers numerous benefits to living in a bigger
community. For example, they have several job opportunities offered to the residents. There is less
conflict between each other because half of the people don t even know eachother. Therefore,
everyone is minding their business and keeping to themselves. The bigger the community you live
in the more money the cityprobably makes, for example, they offer a better education and provide
more options as what a student wants to pursue in after graduating high school. In my opinion there
are more sights to see when there are more places to experience and explore, therefore stating
why a big city is better to live in. In a more populated area, it expands the opportunities for jobs
in the community when there are more options to choose from. It s difficult to live in a
populated area, but it benefits almost everyone around you trying to make a living as well as
you are. Resulting in a huge reason why families move to bigger towns for job offers or
opportunities. As everyone knows businesses thrive better in cities, because they have more
people needing the opportunity to work for them. If the staff increases, the business will grow as
well. Businesses provide jobs for numerous people to help the company and provide for the
employees to receive what they needin daily living. The

Franz Kafka as a Hunger Artist
Through much of Franz Kafka s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and
viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A
Hunger Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation
he feels in his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected
relationship he and his father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the
end of Kafka s life, when he dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to
literally starve to death, just as the hunger artist in the story. It was said about his writing the early
manifestations of authentic originality were nurtured in solitary... Show more content on

Like the hunger artist, he too lived in a state of constant want for both food and recognition, as
he longed for his father s acceptance. From the very beginning of Kaka s life, his family had
been organized by, around, and for the benefit of his overbearing father. As a result of his father
s constant criticisms, Kafka began to criticize himself, as he felt crushed by his ever present
burden of guilt, which he turned into self hatred. One of the most significant influences on Kafka
s life and work was his domineering father. Kafka s stories often contain themes drawn from the
burden of his father s tyranny in his home life, depicting settings of confinement as well as
convoluted systems of punishment and other expressions of seemingly all powerful authority.
(Miline 100) He blames his father for having robbed him of his childhood, never giving him the
attention he is starving for, and like the hunger artist, he spends his whole life seeking it. The most
sustained account of Kafka s childhood is seen by Kafka himself, contained in the fifty page

The Changes the Obama Adminsitation Has Made in Foriegn...
The US has received criticisms due to its post 9/11 foreign policy. Its policy created shifts in
alliances and became a polarizing issue both domestically and internationally.
The US has had a significant shift since Barack Obama took office, moving away from the foreign
policy that was in place under George W. Bush.
Discuss the major changes the Obama administration made to US foreign policy.
Analyze these changes in the context of the international system level, state level, and individual
level.
It is arguable that the Bush doctrine, in 2002, was a necessary evil. While it was a proclamation

majority of the world. It seemed to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This doctrine calls for an increase of diplomacy as well as economic discipline.
On an international level, the globe has breathed a sigh of relief at the forgoing of the Bush
doctrine. The United States has become more willing to work with intergovernmental and
nongovernmental organizations. After the 9/11 attacks, the Bush Administration created the
Homeland Security Council. Obama combined Homeland Security and the National Security
Council into a single entity called the National Security Staff. However, that does not mean that
they have completely abandoned all former policies or that the United States will not unilaterally
take action when given a chance. President Obama himself stated, I will not hesitate to use force,
unilaterally if necessary, to protect the American people of our vital interests whenever we are
attacked or imminently threatened.
State wise, American citizens have rarely been concerned with foreign affairs of its own
government. The number one dissatisfaction is the seemingly never ending wars within the regions
of the Middle East that have begun since the Bush administration. Yet, because of the heightened
sense of paranoia still lingering from 9/11, citizens show a definite concern for how efficiently the
intelligence community of the United States government works. The fusing of

Abstract This paper presents a systematic method for deriving three port converters from the full
bridge converter by splitting two switching legs of full bridge converter into two cells with
different sources. The Full bridge TPC can be used across a wide source voltage range, and good
control over two of the three ports can be achieved while the third port provides the power balance
in the system. Moreover, the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer can be
utilized to achieve zero voltage switching for all the primary side switches. Experimental results

Renewable power systems, which are capable of harvesting energy from, for example, solar cells,
fuel cells, wind, and thermoelectric generators, are found in many applications such as hybrid
electric vehicles, satellites, traffic lights, and powering remote communication systems. Since the
output power of renewable sources is stochastic and the sources lack energy storage capabilities,
energy storage systems such as a battery or a super capacitor are required to improve the system

Phychoanalysis In Sigmund Freud s Totem And Taboo
The book titled Totem and Taboo is a English translation of few articles from its German origin
which was first published in the journal Imago in 1913 depicting Sigmund Freud s interpretation of
a number of ethnic phenomena in light of psychoanlysis centring around the lives and customs of
primitive people and the savages form around the world, like Australia, New Zealand, Africa and so
on. In this book Freud attempts to interpret the culture, ethics and religion in light of psychoanalysis
. This particular work of Freud has been noticed by anthropologists, the vogue of the psychoanalytic
movement founded by him is now so strong that the book is certain to make an impression in many
intelligent circles.

Freud assumes that repressed incestuous desires between family members are most likely the
explanation for all avoidances, as evident from his extensive studies. The first love objects for
infants are their family members, particularly the boy for his mother (Oedipus complex) and then
his sister if he has one, but these are always repressed. In most cases the boy successfully
substitutes other women outside the family for these original choices, but neurotic patients fails to
get over these conflicts and fixate on an earlier stage; he has either failed to get free from the
psycho sexual conditions that prevailed in his childhood or he has returned to them. In civilized
societies, this condition is relatively rare, but Freud speculates that in primitive or savage societies
sexual desires have not been as successfully sublimated as in modern Europe, such that the equation
between primitives, savages, and neurotics seems to him justified by the available evidence. Freud
based many of his theories including unconscious impulses on the subject of dreams. He asserts that
these ideas derive from dreams that are then projected to the natural world through instinctual
repression. Freud emphasised that religion was a form of guilt used to cope with the Oedipus

Stephen Crane Essay
amp;#9;Stephen Crane was one of the United States foremost naturalists in the late 1800 s (
amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). He depicted the human mind in a way that few others have
been capable of doing while examining his own beliefs. Crane was so dedicated to his beliefs that
one should write about only what they personally experience that he lived in a self imposed
poverty for part of his life to spur on his writings (Colvert, 12:108). Crane s contribution to
American Literatureis larger than any one of his books or poems. All parts of Crane s life greatly

After leaving Lafayette, he moved on to attend Syracuse University, where he also played
baseball, and wrote for his brother s news service (Colvert 12:102). It is said that Crane wrote the
preliminary sketch of his novella, Maggie, while at Syracuse. He eventually decided to quit school
and become a full time reporter for the New York Tribune ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.).
amp;#9;Crane began his writing career in poverty, hoping that it would inspire him to write.
Along with his beliefs in Darwinism, he drew much if his influences from his religious beliefs
(Colvert 12:108). Famous writers such as Hamlin Garland, William Howells, Rudyard Kipling,
and Tolstoy also influenced him (12:101). The first of his stories was Maggie, which was very
unpopular ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). His second novel, The Red Badge of Courage,
earned Crane international fame. The Red Badge of Courage showed Crane s views of life as
warfare in a book that is basically plotless. It is about a young soldier, Henry Fleming, and the
emotions that he experiences during wartime ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). Crane s most
famous work of poetry was Black Riders, which appears to have little or no outside influences
(Quartermain 54:106). Black Riders was also an attempt by Crane to get rid of his thought that God
was vengeful and wrathful (Colvert 12:101).

Transcendentalism In The Scarlett Letter
During the time of Hester Prynne in The Scarlett Letter, a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne
and published in 1850, the severity of some crimes were bigger than others due to different views.
During these times, acts such as adultery or atheism could be punishable by death. Hester Prynne
was very aware of these ideas. According to Ralph Waldo Emersons Self Reliance, a
transcendentalist is someone who can Trust thyself. (Essay II Self Reliance) Within the same text,
he also states that if someone is human, than they must be nonconformists. Hester Prynne shows
her transcendentalist values by not conforming to the Puritanbeliefs, ones that condemn any and all
outside beliefs and beliefs that are not in the bible, and she supports herself and her daughter in an

The World s First Army

modern day Iraq. Nestled on the banks of the Tigris River with access to merchants, trade, and
agricultural stability Ashur was named and supposedly founded by Noah s son after the Great
Flood. It was here that Assyria started its branching of power and influence to spread its
conquests as far south as Egypt and as far east as Asia Minor. The Assyrian Army, along with its

Several kings of the Assyria empire, such as Tiglath Pileser III, Shalmaneser V,Sargon II,
Sennacherib, and Esarhaddon, are mentioned a number of times throughout the Bible as nemeses
of the Israelites.. (Mark). The cuneiforms from the Assyrians and the books from the Bible differ
greatly in their telling of these stories of the kings and their encounters, especially Sennacherib s
writings regarding Judah s conquests verses the chronicles from book of Isaiah 37.
The various war tactics of the Assyrian army received many historic mentions as being perverse,
cruel and barbaric. However, throughout history these same tactics have been repeated and
effective in almost every major military esque nation since. This leads one to ponder if they were
setting the bar or establishing a recipe for future failures.
A commonality of the tactics in battle from the Assyrian army was to storm a village or society
with all their might and force and leave it burning to the ground, taking whatever spoils suited
them. This displayed a message to the slaves whom they captured to share with other neighboring
civilizations to not fight back or defend their region. In one story recounted by Ashur Nasir Pal II,
who made a habit of deporting people from their native homelands and sending them to random

Comparing The Philosophies Of Michael Pollan And Raj Patel
The world continues to face a wide scale food crisis. The effects of this crisis reach from the
farmers who grow and raise the food to the very system of laws that are in place to govern the
system itself. Food giants are reaching deep into their pockets for lobbying in order to take
advantage of both the producers and the consumer all in the name of profit. Moreover, farmers are
being driven to suicide, and the ecosystem s livelihood is treading a fine line. Both Michael Pollan
and Raj Patel bring to light these problems and offer suggestions to help lessen their severity.
Though there are many philosophies on which they both agree, they both have their own ideas to
fight back. Pollan seeks to challenge the consumer as an individual while... Show more content on

The three contingencies of Patel s plan include changing the governing laws of agribusiness,
improving the conditions of and supporting rural areas, and changing the role of eating in
society. Before much progress can be made, the ways in which businesses are required to operate
must change. Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in
which they operate or the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers
simply need more help. In current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands
from their purchasers and the decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the
original perception, crop subsidies, most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller
farmers. They can t compete with the mass growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives
the rural farmers out of those particular markets, and it often prevents them from growing crops
their land is most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes the idea that there must be a revamp of the
meaning of food to consumers. As it stands, people view eating as a task rather than an enjoyable
experience. This leads the consumer to think little of the food, especially in ways Michael Pollan
insist they must think about the food. This anti cooking architecture of society is, nonetheless, a
self perpetuating cycle of

York who writes plays with fresh emotions and beautiful language that inspect the relationship

the girl who when younger ran away with the well known Peter Pan. More specifically the play is
about Wendy dwelling on her past with Peter and past in Neverland. She is obsessed with him, the

With Wendy being the dynamic antagonist of this play it was destin for her to change in some
way on the playwright. From the beginning when she mentions thinking about Peter for eight
minutes a day to when she realizes that she not only leaves eight minutes to think about him, but
she lets him affect her life; even though they have not seen each other in years. This implication
takes place not only in the play but in the real world as well. I do not agree to holding onto things
that are not tangible. Holding on to a feeling you had when one was younger does not help a
person as an adult. It will start to affect the things you do or the things you should be doing. It
will affect the people around you, just like Wendy s situation, it will cause conflict between the
ones that you are close to. No one around you wants to see their loved one or best friend clinging
on to a feeling they should have no problem letting go of. The disadvantage of holding on to old
feelings results in an unhappy person, in someone who cannot leave the mindset they are in. It will

Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books
are protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not
be banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to
ban a book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the
1st amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which
involved Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as
follows, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding
the students First Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate
it. The removal of books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of
classroom discussion than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School
District (Notable 1st Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book
to remain inside of schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st

Who Were The Phoenicians
Who Were the Phoenicians?
Thanks to the Phoenicians, this essay can be written and read. They created the first known
alphabet; in which some of the letters are still used in today s alphabet. The Phoenicians were not
known for being the big and strong empire, but for their many modern inventions. Much of what is
known about the Phoenicians comes from the Greek historian Herodotus who documented
everything. Scientists today, still do not know a lot about them, but that does not hinder their
importance to the world.
Phoenicia is located in present day Lebanon and stretched through present day Syria, and Israel . In
1100 B.C, the Phoenicians started out as a strip of land on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

The dye was so rare and expensive that only the rich could have it. Phoenicians were great traders
and traded all throughout the Mediterranean Sea. They traded anything and everything from things
like logs to wine to gold. Most of the economy s wealth come from trading.
The Phoenicians invented a lot of devices that are used today. A huge example of that, would be the
alphabet. Before the Phoenician invention of the alphabet, past civilizations used hieroglyphics to
document information and send messages. The reasoning behind the invention was the large
amount of trading the Phoenicians did. They needed a way to track the things coming and going
out of their port and possession. Some of the letters they created, are still used everyday in the
modern alphabet like the letters b and d for example.
The alphabet isn t the only invention that is still used everyday. Another one of their inventions is

2.1.3Options
There are two kinds of options in the market, European options and American options. The most
common traded one is American options which can be exercised before maturity in the market.
Call options provide the holders the right to buy the underlying assets at an exercise price while
put options is the right to sell (Rad et al., 2015).
Hedgers needs to pay a direct premium when the options open in order to compensate for the
speculators. In this case, hedgers have a right to choose whether they would like to exercise the
options at maturity. As to the speculators, they are the writers of the optionand they have no right

2.1.4Swaps
Swap is an agreement that investors exchange cash flows at a specific time in the future. Generally,
both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps
are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get
the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows.
Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest
payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest
payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two
counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating
interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed
interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay
the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed
before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating
interests and receive the fixed interests. If the floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one,
then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits.
Generally, individuals and non banking institutions are able to be the dealer which may cause

For me, I think that the fourteenth amendment should be revised to redefine the immigration status.
Birth tourism should not be a way of immigration. I think that parents must first become citizens,
then their children can count as citizens. Otherwise these parents will use their children s
citizenship to stay in the United States to obtain benefits. This is not good, which is parents are use

Everyone has an American dream, but we should be work hard to get citizenship, rather than using

The Negative Impact Of Women In Modern Civilization
Civilization affected various groups such as women in many diverse ways that had caused a
negative impact on civilization. Women in ancient civilization industrialized negatively due to the
lack of respect women had gotten from men. The thought women had gotten from the males was
that their only purpose in life was to be the mother; only seen, not heard for both women and
children. To show that women and their children had no freedom, independence, and were
considered a property of the male: 210. If a womanshould die, they shall kill his daughter ( FROM
The Code of Hammurabi 23). By men treating women as if they had no freedom, independence, and
were the property of the men they negatively influence the development of civilization for women
by making it more difficult for their civilization to expand. Women were the property of the men
since men thought women were incompetent of doing anything on their own. While analyzing The
Code of Hammurabi, nearby were many references that women might not be anybody without a
man in their lives. Nonetheless, referring to women as being the property of the men, women
might not get recognized until doing the following: 128. If a man marries a wifebut does not draw
up a formal contract for her, she is not a wife. ( FROM The Code of Hammurabi 20). Women did
not even have a choice when getting married or whom they determined to marry. Women in

It s Time To Procrastinate In High School
My entire high school career has been pushing off assignments until the very last minute. Even
this paper has been pushed off until late hours of the night. It has been a problem for a long
time, but I have been reluctant to do anything about it. In high school it is easy to procrastinate
because there will always be people to sympathise with you. Getting on a different sleep
schedule is the first thing I am attempting to become less of a procrastinator. Recently, IOS
implemented a new app to the iphone to help people get to sleep earlier: I have been using this
app to my advantage. My laziness is like a ticking time bomb, if I am not careful I will go into

things, but with one and a half more years to accomplish my goal is

Man Month which represents the production effort a single persons in a 4 week period. This is
also known as labor month. To figure out the total hour of a man month is done this way. A man
day usually runs 8 hours a day for five days a week which equals forty hours a week (8 hours a day

so we take the forty hours a week and multiply that by four which will gives us one hundred and

Why Do Dogs Make Outstanding Pets
Approximately thirty seven to forty seven percent of households in America own a dog. With

are beneficial to the owner s health, and second they provide their owners with protection from a
multitude of dangers. Aside from promoting favorable physical health due to exercising a dog, there
are studies that have proven that simply petting a dog can significantly lower a person s blood
pressure. When petting a dog, it has been shown that the body releases chemicals that are
considered feel good hormones such as serotonin, oxytocin, and prolactin while decreasing the
amount of stress creating cortisol being produced. Surprisingly enough, ten to twenty percent of

Archetypal Theory In Pygmalion
Ever since we were little children we have been able to see the world around us. We noticed that
there are colors and images but we never truly knew what they meant. Then, we were brought
into school where we were then taught what color is what color and how there are two types of
colors: light and dark. We were taught that the light colors usually mean happiness while the
darker colors represent sadness. Colors and images are how the idea of Archetypal Theory came to
be, helping us discover a deeper meaning within the text. After watching the movies My Fair Lady,
Princess and The Frog, and reading the book Pygmalion, I was able to discover how colors and
images help us better understand the character s journeys from rags to riches. At the beginning
of all three of these stories the characters start out as some nobodies, but then through the
archetypal theory thrown into these pieces so we see how they transform into becoming happy
and wealthy people near the end of the stories. At the beginning of all three of these stories, colors
help us understand who the characters really are. For all of these pieces we are able to see how
dirty and poor both Eliza and Tiana are starting off as. In Pygmalion, Eliza is described as having a
brown skirt with a coarse apron. Her boots are much the worse for wear. She is no doubt as clean as
she can afford to be (Shaw 1. 13). If we dig deeper into the meaning of this quotation we can see
what these colors truly mean. George Bernard

Extracurricular Activities And Academic Success
Surveys show that around eighty percent of students participate in extracurricular activities.
Participating in an extracurricular activity involves balance between the activity and academics
while gaining positive impacts. Many people do not see or understand the importance of
extracurricular activities. Critics might argue that extracurricular activities may harm student
academic success, but what they do not realize is the benefits from extracurricular activities. The
following argument started when the question was raised of how students were spending their
leisure time and what they gained from their involvement. After school hours are the peak time for
bad behaviors and crime for students. However, extracurricular activities provide a shelter for
students for fun activities. Extracurricular activities contribute positively to student academic

The Rights Of The Civil War
The democracy we know today would not exist without an evolution of liberties and freedoms. The
advancement of freedoms resulted from the changes in the British government. Moving from the
Civil War to the Revolution, there are several forms of liberties presented. Before colonization, the
first signs of freedom can be seen in the Magna Carta. The signed Magna Carta prevented the
tyrannical monarch King John. W from abusing his powers (Synan). Feeling threatened by John s
powers, Englishmen formed a regulation known as Habeas Corpus, which would protect
themselves from unjust persecutions. Habeas Corpus allows the accused a right to a trial before
prosecution. Englishmen were finally taking a stand for their freedom when they created this law.
Habeas Corpus could be seen as the first sign of democracys formation (Synan). Still, Habeas
Corpus constitutes a large part of today s democracy. Englishmen were finally beginning to
understand government should have power limitations.
As leaders turned over, King Charles began to rule over England. Both him and his wife Henrietta,
a disciple of Christianity, caused great animosity toward the King (Stax 96). Not only was the man
hated for his religious practices but, he also ruled with divine rights. Meaning, King Charles ruled
through God s actions. In a society established on Protestantism, Englishmen felt Christians were

Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All
In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience
and his students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All
showed an endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I
found myself personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes
Scholar drives a Cooper and holds himself above politics.
After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to
build a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his
extreme shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car
with a manual transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and
crying while relating her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial
Average (DJIA) graph with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the
film so I could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive
graph of the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that
produced the theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking
graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never
mind there is no substance, just emotion.
Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U
shaped curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity
from 1900 to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from
around 1920 to 1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than
present day and they want to get back to that time.

Cubism by Pablo Picasso and George Braques
During the beginning of the 20th century the world was developing at an unprecedented,
intense speed, artists were looking for a new Avant garde way to create works. Hence, cubism
came to life a truly revolutionary style of modern art developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges
Braques (Lance 2010 :2). Many critics challenged this new style due to its unconventional use of
semiotics and lack of social sense. However, this is exactly what Cubists wanted to be,
unconventional challenging the traditions of Western art which they believed had become tired
and run its course. As the world was developing and new inventions were being created such as
the car, aeroplane , cinematography and the telephone. People like Picasso and Braque found it
increasingly difficult to attempt to create works on the basis of these ideas. They believed that the
modernity of these things and the society at the time was unable to be represented by the
exhausted constraints of the conventional forms of representation which had been around since as
early on as the Renaissance. Moving away from the traditional Western rules of what was suitable
when creating art dadists and surrealists start to undermine artistic convention ( Freeman 1989 : 1)
and in turn the cubists do to . As Freeman states in her article, they were attracted to that which
appealed to people not aesthetically but rather on an intellectual level, hence why critics believed
that they had become devoid of any social sense because

The And Benefits Of Human Sin
Kamila Hilal Social Foundations I
Professor Rosof September 14th, 2014
Two Sides To Every Coin: Weighing the Consequences and Benefits of Human Sin
The Tower of Babel, the Fruit of the tree of Knowledge, and the expulsion of Adam and Evefrom
the Garden all share in common the stern consequences of human actions in the face of God. The
significance of these biblical events are often associated with negative views of the punishments
that were placed. The Tower of Babelis associated with God s punishment of scattering humans
across the earth thus separating a once unified people. The expulsion of Adam and Eve from the
Garden for eating the Fruit of the tree of Knowledge is discerned as a negative outcome for man s
wickedness. Although there is significance in the punishments God places on humans in these
chapters of Genesis, positive effects do emerge from these events as well. Among the repercussions
of human s sin emerge free will, the power of choice, and the ability for human beings to develop
and evolve.
The building of the Tower of Babel and the consequences humankind suffered from doing so
portrays the relationship between human beings and God. By building The Tower of Babel, ...a
tower with its top in the heavens... (Genesis 11:4), mankind believed that they could reach the
realm of God himself, physically but more importantly, symbolically. By building

Jesus What If He Return Essay
What If He Returned
1. The general consensus of Jesus second coming to Christians would mark an upheaval, a coming
of the age so to speak. There are many theories and literary revelations depicting what would occur,
from vanishing in a rapture and comings with trumpets and horns; consequently, what would
actually happen is up to debate. Without a doubt, some form of change will occur, but the extent of
his return and how much it means is not known definitely.
2. Personally, I am not ready. Although preparation for any form of event ranging from electrical
outages to hurricane and war is practiced, the coming of Jesus does not appear to be an imminent
threat. Additionally, no historical event can compare to what is portrayed to take place.... Show

Jesus would likely be characterized as poor, thusly he would be some form of menial laborer. This
is assuming that he would make the same entrance as a humble man of peace as he was in the new
testament.
3. At the time, Jesus likely spoke Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew. With this knowledge, it is safe to
conclude that he will still know Hebrew and Aramaic as they are both profound in Jews and the
Jewish religion. The reason why Jesus spoke Greek was likely in part of Roman occupation
which deemed Greek as the official language. Equivalently, today he would speak English or
Arabic as they are both widespread languages and languages of the region he is to be born.
4. Considering Jesus is likely to come from a lower class, he would hold an unskilled occupation as
clerk, cashier, janitor, driver, construction worker, or anything that parallels his counterpart as a
carpenter.
5. Jesus cannot be practicing a religion if he is the key figure in one and in fact God. Although he
may act in the beliefs of Christianity, he will have his own ministry if he does not create a mass
revolution. It is probable that he will have an adequate amount of knowledge in the local religions
of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Evil Character In Othello
It has been observed that there is diversity in the epic character of Othello and because of that
various behavioral and psychological swings are observed and found from act 3 and were
encountered till act 5.
It has been perceived that the gullible character of Othello was transformed into the villainous
monster on the basis of his ensign Iago s evil speeches in act 3. Iago was considered as the most
sinister villain in Shakespeare s world as it is said,
Iago stands supreme among Shakespeare s evil character (A.C Bradley, 1992)
It s a commonly accepted notion, that, because Iago s insinuation, Othello s love was astray, which
depicts the frailty of Othello and his love. But it has been observed that Othello himself was

Thou dost mean something. I heard thee say even now, thou dpst mean something ....when Cassio
left my wife,, what did st not like...as if thou hadst shut up in thy brain some horrible conceit if
thou dost love me, show me your thoughts (Shakespeare, act 3, scene 3 p. 56)
The conversation In between Othello and Iago showed that Othello himself owned some
suspicions with regards to Desdemona before Iago s insinuations. It seems as he himself wants
to hear the disloyalty of Desdemona as it was not Iago who wants to make Othello think in such
a manner but it was Othello who wants Iago to speak of his wife s infidelity. In the other words it
could be said that there was pre exiting bud of jealousy in Othello s mind which is blossomed with
the watering of Iago s insinuations.
The hamartia of Othello was also encountered in at 3 where he has two major flaws first jealousy
and poor judgment. He found his ensign, the most loyal and trust worthy as he said, This hones
creature doubtless sees and knows more than he unfolds (Shakespeare, act 3, scene 3, p.57)
While on the other hand, sexual jealousy and inferiority complex is found in Othello s utterances as

Cohesion In Discourse Essay
It s the investigation of the relationship between form and function in verbal communication
(Renkema, 2004, p.1). According to Longman Dictionary, Discourse is a general term for examples
of language use, i.e. language which has been used as the result of an act of communication.
Discourse refers to larger units of language such as paragraphs, conversation, interviews, sermons,
speeches....etc. Discourse can be written or spoken. The study of how sentences in written and
spoken language form larger units such as paragraphs is discourse analysis(Longman dictionary,
p.147). What makes a sequence of sentences a discourse is cohesion (Renkema, 2004, p.49).

The Characteristics Of Professional Basketball Athletes In...
When people think of professional basketball players, the first word that usually comes to mind
is tall . However, that is not always the case. There are many players that are under 6 3 and while
that may sound tall to us, it is short in the world of basketball. Surprisingly, some of the shorter
players are known to be better on the court. And they re not just known for their height... many are
known for the name brands they represent. Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and Jordan, are just a few
of the brands that are promoted by these players. All great basketballplayers, NBA or not, are tall.
Both current and past players all have a common trait of being tall. Lebron James 6 8, Kevin
Durant 6 10, Jimmy Butler 6 6. All of these players have height, and the skills that come with it.
Being tall in the NBA doesn t guarantee you are the best players, but it does give you a
significant advantage. Lebron and Kevin both have championship rings and a numerous about of
MVP s (Most Valuable Player). These awards show what having height and the skills that come
with it, can give a huge disadvantage to the rest of the smaller guards and forwards in the NBA.
Both Kevin and Lebron developed the skills of being big men , and once it was perfected, they
developed the insane art or shooting. These two players can shoot from anywhere, That s what
makes them so dominant and un guardable. Their size only adds to the fact that smaller players can

Irish Republican Army Essay
Irish independence has been fought for a long time ever since the British occupied Ireland in
1172. The King of England invaded and controlled Ireland. The invasion led to religious and
territorial conflicts. There was an effort to create a church comparable to the Church of England in
the 1500s. Catholics who live in Irelandwere against the idea and a conflict for independence has
emerged (Arena Arrigo, 2004). The suppression of Irish nationalism by the British in the 20th
century led to the creation of martyrs for the cause led by the Irish Republican Army (Combs, 2011).
The alleged origin of the Irish Republican Army could be traced back to the Easter Rising of
1916 (Alonso, 2001; Arena Arrigo, 2004; Filardo Llamas, 2013; Hart, 1997; Page Smith, 2000).
Radical nationalists, who were part of a group called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), took
the opportunity to take up arms against the British during the war in Europe (Filardo Llamas,
2013). The Irish Republican Brotherhood was the precursor of the modern IRA. They were a
secret society who was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The campaign had ultimately led to the creation of the Act of Ireland of 1920. This created a
twenty six county Irish Free State and six counties in Northern Ireland (Filardo Llamas, 2013;
White, 1989). This act also allowed Northern Ireland to choose whether or not to stay with Britain
or become part of the Free State. Northern Ireland ultimately decided to stay with the United
Kingdom and Northern Ireland created its own parliament in Stormont in Belfast (Bosi, 2012;
Filardo Llamas, 2013). The Free State was mostly inhabited by Catholics while Northern Ireland
was populated mostly by Protestants (White, 1989). But the road to have a Free State did come at
a price. Over 7,500 people lost their lives or were wounded between 1917 and 1923. Many lost their
homes, family and friends (Hart,

If You re A Vampire, It s All About You
If you re a vampire, it s all about you. Why is Edward Cullen obsessed to the point of erotomania
by Bella Swan? Because she smells so yummy, but he doesn t want to kill her. Here s what he
tells her: He must not be around her. He might sink his fangs in just a little, and not be able to
stop. She finds this overwhelmingly attractive. She tells him he is the most beautiful thing she has
ever seen. I don t remember Edward ever saying that to her. Maybe once. He keeps on saying they
should stay far, far apart, because he craves her so much.
Should a woman fall in love with a man because he desires her so much? Men seem to think so. It
s not about the woman, it s about the man s desire. We all know there is no such thing as a
vampire. Come on now, what is Twilightreally about? It s about a teenage boy trying to practice
abstinence, and how, in the heat of the moment, it s really, really hard. And about a girl who wants
to go all the way with him, and doesn t care what might happen. He s so beautiful she would do
anything for him. She is the embodiment of the sentiment, I d die for you. She is, like many
adolescents, a thanatophile.
If there were no vampires in Twilight, it would be a thin blooded teenage romance, about two good
looking kids who want each other so much because they want each other so much. Sometimes that
s all it s about, isn t it? They re in love with being in love. In Twilight, however, they have a
seductive disagreement about whether

Physiologic Fluid Compartments Paper
Physiologic Fluid Compartments

UMHB Nursing Department
Abstract
This concept paper will discuss the different aspects of fluid and electrolytes as they relate to the
body. First, the anatomy of the compartments where fluids and electrolytes are within the body will
be discussed along with percentages contained in each compartment and how they are transported
into and out of these compartments. Then, the pressures within these compartments and
compositions of different types of fluids that may be within them will be discussed. Finally, the
effects that different fluids may have on the body when they are administered and the
classifications by tonicity of these different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tonicity is used to determine which of the three types each fluid would fall under and is
essentially the change that occurs to the cell size because of the amount of water pushed into or
pulled out of the cell by each type of fluid. Isotonic fluids, such as 0.9% saline, whole blood, packed
RBC s, and lactated ringers, neither swell or shrink a cell because their osmolality or pressure
equals ICF. Hypotonic solutions, such as 0.25% saline, D5/0.25% saline, and 0.45% saline, cause
the cells to swell because the osmolality is lower in the hypotonic solution than ICF meaning there
is a less dense concentration of particle within the solution so the water molecules move to the
particles within the cell. Hypertonic solutions, such as D5/0.9% saline, D5/0.45% saline, D5
/lactated ringers and 3% saline, cause the cell to shrink because they have a higher osmolality than
ICF which means they pull the water out of the cell due to the dense particle concentration of the
solution. D5W solutions are unique in that they are isotonic when they are outside the body but
become hypotonic when they are introduced into the body. Within these compositions there are two
more solutions types known as crystalloid and colloid. Crystalloid solutions typically have a
balanced electrolyte composition and expand total extracellular fluid volume (Shields, 2015), some
examples are 0.9% saline and lactated ringers. Colloid solutions exert osmotic pressure which pulls
water into the ECF to help expand volume, some examples of this are albumin and

  • 2. Research Paper On Eveline Death Lingers In Her Eyes James Joyce s Eveline establishes a diverse, variety of notions, one of which persists that music plays a significant role pertaining to Eveline s happiness, he also depicts her struggle to feel alive inside, and her internal battle between duty and love. Music has been a singular joy in Eveline s life. When Eveline s dear mother lie on her deathbed she seemed to only become worse after the organ player had been ordered to go away and given sixpence, by her father. (Joyce) The music tinkling up from the street helped distract her family from the somber event holding the house captive. Once the music had been chased out, death persisted leaving nothing behind besides the dregs of life. She and her sweetheart, Frank, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She hankers for a happy life with Frank where her father cannot find her, where she will be respected and loved, in a place where she can escape her depression filled existence in Dublin. Every day at home, she had hard work to keep the house together and to see that the two young children who had been left to her charge went to school regularly and got their meals regularly. (Joyce) This task of raising the children comes riddled with responsibility and subsists as something she knows would not be tended to rightly if she were to leave them alone with her father. Not to mention, her father was becoming old lately. (Joyce) Eveline remains accustomed to this mediocre life that it suggests she does not desire to leave by virtue of her fear to start over in Buenos Ayres. As a result, she rationalizes her drunken father s behavior by remembering past attributes: sometimes he could be very nice. (Joyce) She often reflects on her promise to her mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could. (Joyce) She would feel guilty to leave and live for herself and select herself for once in her life! Eveline shows no mercy towards her own person, she could convince herself to stay without any outside input, just by reason of her self induced obligation to be the glue holding her family together while the pressure tears at her sanity. She even imagines her mother saying, Derevaun Seraun! Derevaun Seraun! meaning in Irish Gaelic, at the dissolution of pleasure, there remains pain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. James Douglas Short Essay My intention with the story I told was to talk on the brief period in former world heavyweight champion James Douglas s life, circa 1993 1994, where he was indulging after getting a twenty four million dollar payday for his only championship defense against Evander Holyfield, a fight he lost by third round stoppage. Much exists on his stunning victory over unbeaten champion Mike Tyson and the comatose state he slipped into after the post boxingindulgence saw his weight escalate to four hundred pounds. The comatose state motivated him to get back into fighting shape upon waking up and make another run at the heavyweight crown, a comeback in which he went eight and one, losing only to Lou Savarese. But little exists detailing the short span in which he lived in luxury. I wanted to try to depict the things he did to occupy his time after losing the title.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remembered how James Tillis, in his 2000 autobiography Thinkin Big, mentioned he got robbed several times via awful luck and judges scorecards against top flight competition, including a young Tyson climbing up the rankings; the real fight films told a much different story, in particular his title match against WBA champion Mike Weaver (he claimed to have won eleven rounds [the fight got scheduled for fifteen], but spent at least half the fight backpedaling and clinching). So I went with third person limited. I tried to write as an unbiased sportswriter who did not know Douglas on a personal level, a total outsider who was getting a glimpse into the former champ s private life and impossible to blackmail or bribe into deception by ... • 6. The Future Of The European Union What the framework of our constitution can do is organize the way in which we argue about our future. All of its elaborate machinery its separation of powers and checks and balances and federalist principles and Bill of Rights are designed to force us into a conversation, a deliberative democracy in which all citizens are required to engage in a process of testing their ideas against an external reality, persuading others of their point of view, and building shifting alliances of consent. Barack Obama, 2006 1.0Introduction In the past years, the possible future of the European Union (EU) has been of increasing interest to social and political scientists as well as the public. Since 2008, the EU has experienced events such as the economic crisis and the 2014 European Parliament election, which have fostered intense debates around the legitimising basis of the EU (Zielonka, 2014). Furthermore, with the election of David Cameron in the 2015 United Kingdom general election even the possibility of the United Kingdom leaving the EU has been discussed. Although many social and political scientists do not believe such a scenario (REFERENCE), one could argue that there is an increasing need for the EU to redefine itself in order not to experience a genuine downfall . Consequently, an alternative theory of EU integration challenging the classical intergovernmental and neofunctional understandings of the EU has gained increasing support among political scientists. ... Rural communities have a lot to offer. It offers numerous benefits to living in a bigger community. For example, they have several job opportunities offered to the residents. There is less conflict between each other because half of the people don t even know eachother. Therefore, everyone is minding their business and keeping to themselves. The bigger the community you live in the more money the cityprobably makes, for example, they offer a better education and provide more options as what a student wants to pursue in after graduating high school. In my opinion there are more sights to see when there are more places to experience and explore, therefore stating why a big city is better to live in. In a more populated area, it expands the opportunities for jobs in the community when there are more options to choose from. It s difficult to live in a populated area, but it benefits almost everyone around you trying to make a living as well as you are. Resulting in a huge reason why families move to bigger towns for job offers or opportunities. • 9. Franz Kafka as a Hunger Artist Through much of Franz Kafka s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A Hunger Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation he feels in his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected relationship he and his father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the end of Kafka s life, when he dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to literally starve to death, just as the hunger artist in the story. Like the hunger artist, he too lived in a state of constant want for both food and recognition, as he longed for his father s acceptance. From the very beginning of Kaka s life, his family had been organized by, around, and for the benefit of his overbearing father. As a result of his father s constant criticisms, Kafka began to criticize himself, as he felt crushed by his ever present burden of guilt, which he turned into self hatred. One of the most significant influences on Kafka s life and work was his domineering father. Kafka s stories often contain themes drawn from the burden of his father s tyranny in his home life, depicting settings of confinement as well as convoluted systems of punishment and other expressions of seemingly all powerful authority. (Miline 100) He blames his father for having robbed him of his childhood, never giving him the attention he is starving for, and like the hunger artist, he spends his whole life seeking it. Obama combined Homeland Security and the National Security Council into a single entity called the National Security Staff. President Obama himself stated, I will not hesitate to use force, unilaterally if necessary, to protect the American people of our vital interests whenever we are attacked or imminently threatened. DESIGN AND MODELLING OF THREE PORT CONVERTERS FOR SOLAR ENERY SYSTEMS 1) BJ SHIVA RAMA KRISHNA RAO, PG Student 2) O.SWATHI PG student 3)K.S BHARGAVI, ASSOC. Prof. , Kasi Reddy Narayan Reddy College of Engineering and Research Abstract This paper presents a systematic method for deriving three port converters from the full bridge converter by splitting two switching legs of full bridge converter into two cells with different sources. The Full bridge TPC can be used across a wide source voltage range, and good control over two of the three ports can be achieved while the third port provides the power balance in the system. Moreover, the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer can be utilized to achieve zero voltage switching for all the primary side switches. Experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed Full Bridge TPC. Index Terms FB TPC, dc grid, full bridge three level (FBTL), PV System I. INTRODUCTION Renewable power systems, which are capable of harvesting energy from, for example, solar cells, fuel cells, wind, and thermoelectric generators, are found in many applications such as hybrid electric vehicles, satellites, traffic lights, and powering remote communication systems. Since the output power of renewable sources is stochastic and the sources lack energy storage capabilities, energy storage systems such as a battery or a super capacitor are required to improve the system dynamics and ... Freud assumes that repressed incestuous desires between family members are most likely the explanation for all avoidances, as evident from his extensive studies. The first love objects for infants are their family members, particularly the boy for his mother (Oedipus complex) and then his sister if he has one, but these are always repressed. In most cases the boy successfully substitutes other women outside the family for these original choices, but neurotic patients fails to get over these conflicts and fixate on an earlier stage; he has either failed to get free from the psycho sexual conditions that prevailed in his childhood or he has returned to them. In civilized societies, this condition is relatively rare, but Freud speculates that in primitive or savage societies sexual desires have not been as successfully sublimated as in modern Europe, such that the equation between primitives, savages, and neurotics seems to him justified by the available evidence. Freud based many of his theories including unconscious impulses on the subject of dreams. He asserts that these ideas derive from dreams that are then projected to the natural world through instinctual repression. He depicted the human mind in a way that few others have been capable of doing while examining his own beliefs. Crane was so dedicated to his beliefs that one should write about only what they personally experience that he lived in a self imposed poverty for part of his life to spur on his writings (Colvert, 12:108). Crane s contribution to American Literatureis larger than any one of his books or poems. Transcendentalism In The Scarlett Letter During the time of Hester Prynne in The Scarlett Letter, a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1850, the severity of some crimes were bigger than others due to different views. During these times, acts such as adultery or atheism could be punishable by death. Hester Prynne was very aware of these ideas. According to Ralph Waldo Emersons Self Reliance, a transcendentalist is someone who can Trust thyself. (Essay II Self Reliance) Within the same text, he also states that if someone is human, than they must be nonconformists. It was here that Assyria started its branching of power and influence to spread its conquests as far south as Egypt and as far east as Asia Minor. The cuneiforms from the Assyrians and the books from the Bible differ greatly in their telling of these stories of the kings and their encounters, especially Sennacherib s writings regarding Judah s conquests verses the chronicles from book of Isaiah 37. The various war tactics of the Assyrian army received many historic mentions as being perverse, cruel and barbaric. However, throughout history these same tactics have been repeated and effective in almost every major military esque nation since. This leads one to ponder if they were setting the bar or establishing a recipe for future failures. A commonality of the tactics in battle from the Assyrian army was to storm a village or society with all their might and force and leave it burning to the ground, taking whatever spoils suited them. Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in which they operate or the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers simply need more help. In current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands from their purchasers and the decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the original perception, crop subsidies, most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller farmers. They can t compete with the mass growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives the rural farmers out of those particular markets, and it often prevents them from growing crops their land is most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes the idea that there must be a revamp of the meaning of food to consumers. As it stands, people view eating as a task rather than an enjoyable experience. This leads the consumer to think little of the food, especially in ways Michael Pollan insist they must think about the food. This anti cooking architecture of society is, nonetheless, a self perpetuating cycle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kimberly Belflower s Play Lost Girl Lost Girl written by Kimberly Belflower, a student at the University of Texas in Austin from New York who writes plays with fresh emotions and beautiful language that inspect the relationship between young women s internal and external lives. Lost Girl is a play about adult Wendy Darling, the girl who when younger ran away with the well known Peter Pan. More specifically the play is about Wendy dwelling on her past with Peter and past in Neverland. She is obsessed with him, the lost boy who took her flying and gave her the childhood adventure any child only dreams to be a part of. She clings to the memory in hopes that he will one day come back like he said he would, she even leaves her window open twenty four seven in hopes that he will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Wendy being the dynamic antagonist of this play it was destin for her to change in some way on the playwright. From the beginning when she mentions thinking about Peter for eight minutes a day to when she realizes that she not only leaves eight minutes to think about him, but she lets him affect her life; even though they have not seen each other in years. This implication takes place not only in the play but in the real world as well. I do not agree to holding onto things that are not tangible. Holding on to a feeling you had when one was younger does not help a person as an adult. It will start to affect the things you do or the things you should be doing. It will affect the people around you, just like Wendy s situation, it will cause conflict between the ones that you are close to. No one around you wants to see their loved one or best friend clinging on to a feeling they should have no problem letting go of. The disadvantage of holding on to old feelings results in an unhappy person, in someone who cannot leave the mindset they are in. Catch 22 is renowned by many who have enjoyed the book s realism and use of satire, but some beg to differ and often criticize the book over the excessive use of profanity. Since the 1st amendment guarantees the right to freedom of the press among other things books are protected under said right as decided by Lamont v. Postmaster General (1965), a book can not be banned from schools because a school is an extension of the government, and if a school were to ban a book because of language, violence, etc. the government would essentially be suppressing the 1st amendment. A quote from the American Library Association website from a court case which involved Strongsville school board attempting to ban Catch 22 from the school district is as follows, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled against the School Board, upholding the students First Amendment right to receive information and the librarian s right to disseminate it. The removal of books from a school library is a much more serious burden upon the freedom of classroom discussion than the action found unconstitutional in Tinker v. Des Moines School District (Notable 1st Amendment Court Cases). The 1st amendment protects the rights of the book to remain inside of schools because if Catch 22 was banned that school would be suppressing the 1st amendment right therefore breaking the constitution. Generally, both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows. Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. Habeas Corpus allows the accused a right to a trial before prosecution. Englishmen were finally taking a stand for their freedom when they created this law. Habeas Corpus could be seen as the first sign of democracys formation (Synan). Still, Habeas Corpus constitutes a large part of today s democracy. Englishmen were finally beginning to understand government should have power limitations. As leaders turned over, King Charles began to rule over England. Both him and his wife Henrietta, a disciple of Christianity, caused great animosity toward the King (Stax 96). Not only was the man hated for his religious practices but, he also ruled with divine rights. Meaning, King Charles ruled through God s actions. In a society established on Protestantism, Englishmen felt Christians were untrustworthy beings (Synan). Discovering a sense liberty, but more so, a religious freedom, the ... • 38. Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich s Inequality For All In the documentary titled Inequality for All , Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and his students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. Inequality for All showed an endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I found myself personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes Scholar drives a Cooper and holds himself above politics. After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to build a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his extreme shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with a manual transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying while relating her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) graph with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no substance, just emotion. Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a U shaped curve . Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity from 1900 to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to 1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than present day and they want to get back to that time. News flash gentlemen, that was the World War I and Great Depression era. Capital was devalued or lost at such a tremendous level, we developed a capitalized name for it. We teach school children of these times, but the documentary seems to ignore or gloss over it. • 39. Cubism by Pablo Picasso and George Braques During the beginning of the 20th century the world was developing at an unprecedented, intense speed, artists were looking for a new Avant garde way to create works. Hence, cubism came to life a truly revolutionary style of modern art developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques (Lance 2010 :2). Many critics challenged this new style due to its unconventional use of semiotics and lack of social sense. However, this is exactly what Cubists wanted to be, unconventional challenging the traditions of Western art which they believed had become tired and run its course. As the world was developing and new inventions were being created such as the car, aeroplane , cinematography and the telephone. People like Picasso and Braque found it increasingly difficult to attempt to create works on the basis of these ideas. They believed that the modernity of these things and the society at the time was unable to be represented by the exhausted constraints of the conventional forms of representation which had been around since as early on as the Renaissance. Moving away from the traditional Western rules of what was suitable when creating art dadists and surrealists start to undermine artistic convention ( Freeman 1989 : 1) and in turn the cubists do to . As Freeman states in her article, they were attracted to that which appealed to people not aesthetically but rather on an intellectual level, hence why critics believed that they had become devoid of any social sense because ... The And Benefits Of Human Sin Kamila Hilal Social Foundations I Professor Rosof September 14th, 2014 Two Sides To Every Coin: Weighing the Consequences and Benefits of Human Sin The Tower of Babel, the Fruit of the tree of Knowledge, and the expulsion of Adam and Evefrom the Garden all share in common the stern consequences of human actions in the face of God. The significance of these biblical events are often associated with negative views of the punishments that were placed. The Tower of Babelis associated with God s punishment of scattering humans across the earth thus separating a once unified people. The expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden for eating the Fruit of the tree of Knowledge is discerned as a negative outcome for man s wickedness. Although there is significance in the punishments God places on humans in these chapters of Genesis, positive effects do emerge from these events as well. Among the repercussions of human s sin emerge free will, the power of choice, and the ability for human beings to develop and evolve. The building of the Tower of Babel and the consequences humankind suffered from doing so portrays the relationship between human beings and God. There are many theories and literary revelations depicting what would occur, from vanishing in a rapture and comings with trumpets and horns; consequently, what would actually happen is up to debate. Without a doubt, some form of change will occur, but the extent of his return and how much it means is not known definitely. 2. Personally, I am not ready. Although preparation for any form of event ranging from electrical outages to hurricane and war is practiced, the coming of Jesus does not appear to be an imminent threat. Jesus would likely be characterized as poor, thusly he would be some form of menial laborer. This is assuming that he would make the same entrance as a humble man of peace as he was in the new testament. 3. At the time, Jesus likely spoke Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew. With this knowledge, it is safe to conclude that he will still know Hebrew and Aramaic as they are both profound in Jews and the Jewish religion. The reason why Jesus spoke Greek was likely in part of Roman occupation which deemed Greek as the official language. Equivalently, today he would speak English or Arabic as they are both widespread languages and languages of the region he is to be born. 4. Considering Jesus is likely to come from a lower class, he would hold an unskilled occupation as clerk, cashier, janitor, driver, construction worker, or anything that parallels his counterpart as a carpenter. 5. Jesus cannot be practicing a religion if he is the key figure in one and in fact God. • 46. Irish Republican Army Essay Irish independence has been fought for a long time ever since the British occupied Ireland in 1172. The King of England invaded and controlled Ireland. The invasion led to religious and territorial conflicts. There was an effort to create a church comparable to the Church of England in the 1500s. Catholics who live in Irelandwere against the idea and a conflict for independence has emerged (Arena Arrigo, 2004). The suppression of Irish nationalism by the British in the 20th century led to the creation of martyrs for the cause led by the Irish Republican Army (Combs, 2011). The alleged origin of the Irish Republican Army could be traced back to the Easter Rising of 1916 (Alonso, 2001; Arena Arrigo, 2004; Filardo Llamas, 2013; Hart, 1997; Page Smith, 2000). Radical nationalists, who were part of a group called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), took the opportunity to take up arms against the British during the war in Europe (Filardo Llamas, 2013). Because she smells so yummy, but he doesn t want to kill her. Here s what he tells her: He must not be around her. He might sink his fangs in just a little, and not be able to stop. She finds this overwhelmingly attractive. She tells him he is the most beautiful thing she has ever seen. I don t remember Edward ever saying that to her. Maybe once. He keeps on saying they should stay far, far apart, because he craves her so much. Should a woman fall in love with a man because he desires her so much? Men seem to think so. Tonicity is used to determine which of the three types each fluid would fall under and is essentially the change that occurs to the cell size because of the amount of water pushed into or pulled out of the cell by each type of fluid. Isotonic fluids, such as 0.9% saline, whole blood, packed RBC s, and lactated ringers, neither swell or shrink a cell because their osmolality or pressure equals ICF. Hypotonic solutions, such as 0.25% saline, D5/0.25% saline, and 0.45% saline, cause the cells to swell because the osmolality is lower in the hypotonic solution than ICF meaning there is a less dense concentration of particle within the solution so the water molecules move to the particles within the cell. Hypertonic solutions, such as D5/0.9% saline, D5/0.45% saline, D5 /lactated ringers and 3% saline, cause the cell to shrink because they have a higher osmolality than ICF which means they pull the water out of the cell due to the dense particle concentration of the solution. D5W solutions are unique in that they are isotonic when they are outside the body but become hypotonic when they are introduced into the body. Within these compositions there are two more solutions types known as crystalloid and colloid. Crystalloid solutions typically have a balanced electrolyte composition and expand total extracellular fluid volume (Shields, 2015), some examples are 0.9% saline and lactated ringers. Colloid solutions exert osmotic pressure which pulls water into the ECF to help expand volume, some examples of this are albumin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
