Picard s Argument Analysis
I learned so much from our guest speaker, Andre Picard, the Globe and Mail s Public Health
reporter. He made me rethink my whole perspective on patients right with his talk about assisted
suicide and abortion. Contrary to popular belief, doctors are not bound by the Hippocratic Oath.
However, they may choose to do so and follow it. Consequently, this means that they can refuse
assisted suicideas it harms someone s life. What really struck me was when he said that he
believed that a patients rights should triumph doctors oath to protect and save. This was appalling
to me at first, but after giving it more thought it made sense. I was able to piece together what he
meant by that as the right to have a choice gives people autonomy and dignity... Show more content

It is a right that is often overlooked. I agreed with Picard when he provided that the right to die
is in a way a symbolic right that we should have as it gives us a choice if certain requirements are
met. I also found it interesting that the concern of the slippery slope is not always the case
/problem. After the discussion, I saw my perspective change as I began to agree and see where
Picard was coming from. In the end, I also found myself agreeing with the premise that the patients
right triumph over the right of doctors to reject if death is imminent. The consumer movement was
something I never heard off and was surprised of having learned that the language around
differentiating cancer varied (e.g. taboo to say breast cancer, so they used to say women s
cancer ). Over time, people progressed and moved away from that as cancer became a more
discussed topic. Especially with the terry Fox, the movement was brought into public view.
Overall, I found Andre Picard had great thoughts on public policy and how human rights will
evolve over time. As he asserted in class, people will come out and discusses their story before
the public even if it is a private matter just to advance the right. He used to example of Rodriguez
and how she brought forth a court case to show the public that this issue needs to be examined even
though she eventually ended her life through an illegal physician assisted

The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt
Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive
without anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year,
water sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the
world, about 1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity,
another 25% of population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from
river or lake (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) пјЊand water
sustainability is to make sure people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem,
bad location and inefficient water use, but government have some solutions like use water more
efficient and reduce waste. Israel used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has
been solved by new technology.
Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to
water scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded
by Israel, Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts
cause hot and dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in
Egypt. Because almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture
in Egypt, which leads to wasteful irrigation techniques such as flood irrigation, this system losing 3
billion cubic

Foolishness In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Many people can be foolish because of the decisions they decide to make, surprisingly even
fairies can be fools. In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, fairies are
just as fools as humans can be. From Bottom turning into an ass. Puck s mistake in applying the
love potion on the wrong person. Oberon s decision to apply the love potion on his wife. By
looking at the foolishness of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, it is evident that Puck s statement Lord
what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies People unknowingly are constantly being
a victim of something they weren t unaware of. For Bottom he was transformed into an ass for a
prank that he was unaware about. This happens when Puck had a task to make Titania... Show more

Oberon was so jealous over a boy that he decides to apply the potion on his own wife Titania,
wanting her to fall in love with the first ugly creature she see s. Oberon makes this decision
because he gets into a fight with Titania with how her attention is more towards the changeling
boy then over him, making him want to apply the potion. This is a foolish thing to do because
Oberon should understand that Titania is taking care of this baby because she feels like she
owes the mother of the child, he should know that the little boys need a lot of attention to be
taken care of. Instead of feeling jealous, he should of felt proud that his wife was doing a kind
act. Instead he takes it in the wrong way, playing a mean prank on his wife and making her fall
in love with Bottom, to take away the changeling boy. People are fools, even to their loved ones
. As a result of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, they prove that Puck s statement Lord what fools these
mortals be can also be applied to fairies. Bottom shows that he is fool with playing on with the
tricks and actually thinking that a Queen loves him. Puck is a fool because he applies the love
potion on the wrong person making the plot change many times. Oberon is a fool because instead
of accepting the act of kindness his wife is doing, he is jealous. Fools are not just in mortals, but in

Debate Over Stimulated And Overly Connected
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect
Jacquelyn Gentry
Eastern Kentucky University
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to
have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not
uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is
an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps
unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is
thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get
to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is
talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something
transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very
socially engaged via social media. They develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact
and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a teenager off from their device is to socially exile
them from the world. In other words, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the
day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to
unwind, think about your day, come up with possible resolutions.to

Determinism, Hard And Soft
Determinism: According to Sappington (1990) there are two types of determinism, hard and soft.
He states that those who hold hard determinism say that human behavior is completely determined
by outside factors and that ideas such a free will or moral responsibility are meaningless. Many
famous psychologists take this approach such as Freud who believed that people s behavior is
controlled by unconscious factors and any conscious reasons given are simply the brain
rationalizing actions to the superego. Skinner argued against Freud and said that behavior is
determined by their reinforcement histories. Although they argue on the finer points they both
believe that conscious choice is irrelevant.
The second kind of determinism that Sappington (1990) speaks of is soft determinism which is the
belief that human behavior is determined, but this does not mean that free will is incompatible with
it. This view is says that people make choices that affect their lives but these choices themselves are
determined by other factors. According to Sappington (1990) Hobbes, Locke Hume, and Mill
represent this position among with many other famous psychologists. The idea of soft determinism
is not controversial in psychology today. (Sappington 1990)
Is belief in free will or determinism mutually exclusive or can one hold both views? Philosophers
have contrasted compatibilist and incompatibilist positions (Sappington 1990). Incompatibilists
argue that people cannot believe both views, while

Canto 18 of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri Essay
Canto 18 of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri
It was once said by Marcel Proust that We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for
ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can make for us, which no one
can spare us... . This journey through the wild to discover wisdom is exactly what transpires in The
Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The Inferno is an epic poem that is the first section of a three part
poem called The Divine Comedy. The Inferno is about the narrator, Dante, traveling through the
layers of Hell and learning about the men and women in Hell, and ultimately why God is punishing
them there. One of the most representative parts of The Inferno as a whole is Canto 18. Canto 18
is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite not reading all of The Inferno, the certain part I did read gave me a true illustration of
the entire work. Particularly in Canto 18, readers observe Dante s writing techniques as well as
the main ideas or themes present in the work. Canto 18 is an especially excellent illustration of
Dante as a visual poet and his imagery. For example, it begins with Dante describing Malebolge
as made of all stone the color of crude iron / as is the wall that makes it way around it. / Right in
the middle of the evil field / is an abyss, a broad and yawning pit (2 5). Dante continues in writing
more of a unique description about the geography of Hell. His descriptiveness allows readers to
feel and see the cold, crude iron surrounding Malebolge and see the huge pit in the middle, too.
As when I read the description of the geography, Dante s writing creates fear in me just as he
does for other readers in all parts of The Inferno. Besides Dante s visual poetry, he also includes
very shocking imagery that affects all five of the senses. Canto 18 holds an excellent example of
Dante s imagery. At the end of the canto, Dante writes, The ditch beneath / held people plunged in
excrement that seemed / as if it had been poured from human privies (112 114). These few lines
are a wonderful portrayal of the extremely, shocking details he

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is defined as a mental disorder in which an individual has
a pervasive pattern of grandiosity . . . lack of empathy, [is] self centered and require the admiration
of others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206). Although Narcissism has it own symptoms, it has
similarities with other disorders such as disregard of others, instability in relationships, tend to be
emotional and attention seeking, and exaggerate self importance. Though the exact cause of this
personality disorderis unknown, there have been numerous speculations and theories. What is
known however, is that an individual that is of Narcissistic Personality Disorderusually displays
these characteristics by early adulthood and present... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most people would clearly be aware of the fact that they have to wait in line (as most
individuals do) in order to pay for their items and be on their way, a narcissists would disagree.
This is because Narcissist as talked about the Abnormal Psychology book, . . . do not care to wait in
line or take their turn: they expect special privileges because of their obvious superiority to
others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206). They believe and view themselves as priority
regardless of their location or circumstance. In their minds limits, exclusions, the word no, or off
limits does not apply to them simply because of their apparent superiority to others. Due to these
beliefs, they . . . are condescending and haughtily in attitude and behavior. (206) towards anyone
who crosses their path. This too applies to their relationships, whether family, social, or
acquaintance. Narcissist view others as means to their ends, because of their perspective they do
not feel empathy and use others for their own gains. Which is why often times, they will surround
themselves with individuals that will feed their ego due to that, they always want, look for, and
expect to receive compliments from others. However, if they do not receive the attention or
compliments expected, this will further encourage their Narcissistic ways in order to protect the
well being of their ego and avoid

Examples Of Chuck Bass As An American Hero
The American Hero Heroes and victims are the product of the mood they were in when
opportunity came or when circumstances were at their worst said Orson Scott Card. In every
movie or television show has a hero and victim but which one is going to have the fans and
watchers vote? A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding
achievements, or noble qualities. As an anti heroic is one who doesn t act like a typical hero but
often is a little villainous. Heroes are from many different cultures for example superman and
batman. Chuck Bassis an anti heroic main character, from the novel and television show Gossip

He then moved to the big city to film. Playing his role as Chuck on the series Gossip Girls made
his career as an actor. He was contacted to show up to casting calls or has offers to play roles
without even auditioning.
What, exactly, does antihero mean? Merriam Webster traces its first appearance back to 1714 and
murkily defines it as a protagonist or notable figure who is considerably lacking in heroic qualities.
Charles Bartholomew Joseph Chuck Bass is a fictional character in the novel and television show
Gossip Girl. Chuck Bass is known as the show s antihero. For example, he cheats, lies or uses the
power of money to make his friends happy or get what they want. He isn t the traditional anti
heroic because he is more relatable to people. His character traits have changed since starting in
the first episode to the last episode in season six. During season one Chuck was shy, and
unlikeable. Also, he is considered the bad boy. He was only interested in girls, himself and
money. In an episode, he says Why should I be... an usher? I m Chuck Bass. This is an example
of how his unlikable personality came across to others. Then by the end of the third season he
shows us a sensitive side. By the third season, Chuck shows a nicer side and is likable. We see
him make a few big and thoughtful gesture to his queen bee girlfriend, for example, surprising her
with her dream dress for prom.

The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay
Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars,
looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other
planets in our solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the
many mysteries with it. Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own
moon to help understand more about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before
we even landed on the moon. How did we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on
the moon? Wernher von Braun has been interested in the red planet and space travel since he
was in college. Many years after college, Braun still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun
then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not
happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars
has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun s first plans to NASAnew plans
and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to the dream of stepping foot on
the red planet.
We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the
cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into
unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our
lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from

Commentary on Feet
Analysis on Feet Feet is a prose talking about a little child looking at his sister s death. The story
is set in a post war period, when poverty and diseases are everywhere. We can know this by
looking at the date written under the title, September 1948 . The story happened in a working class
family in Ireland. We can know that it is set in Ireland from the little sister s name. From the
sentencein line 7, Una. My younger sister, Una. We know that her name is Una, which is an Irish
name, so we can know that it is an Irish family. It is showed that the family is in working class by
looking at the descriptions of the uncles work and the mother s feet. In paragraph 4, it mentioned
that the uncles are working in a building site as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It appear in line 17, Pain and pressure , which are plosives and also appear in line 44, cough
crying , which are fricatives. The author uses quite a lot of sensory appeal in the third paragraph
where the narrator is imagining things about the diseases names. They are mainly sounds and
smells. There is a lexical choice of vocabulary in line 25, IT had a fright and hiss in it , this
sentences has the word hiss which we usually uses to describe snakes. This shows that the disease
is as danger as snakes. Imagery can be found in the prose too, in the last paragraph, line 48, the
autumn air darkening using the image of autumn being the period when most living things die to
describe the dying image. Last but not least, rhetorical questions can be found in the last
paragraph. What ideas did the author expressed through the passage? Poverty is showed in the
passage through the shoes of the characters, knowing how harsh the lives of the mother and the
uncles have. However, the main idea of the passage is the child learning about the nature of death.
We know that the child doesn t know much about the disease nor death, having all those questions
that have no answers. He has fear and is too sudden to him that he can hardly accept. He is far too
young that limited his view point which is expressed by limiting the view point to only seeing feet
when being under a table. Feet thoroughly showed how the little boy go through his

Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare
Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay
Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the
most popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden
book, the Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from
the original story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and
similarities between the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions.
There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is
circles, which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book
is A pumpkin rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is
becoming complete because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she
marries. Another example of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms
version There she had to do hard work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows
wholeness in the morning when the sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle.
Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant
coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is
coming complete because she has found her destiny which is the price she meets at the ball.
The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the
Little Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the
prince lived happily ever after (12). This shows the them by the hard work Cinderella had to do
at home and also it means that because of all the hard work she got a reward which was to marry
the prince and live the life of her dreams. The theme for the 2015 Disney movie is Have Courage
and be kind . This was shown throughout the movie when Cinderella s mom told her have
courage and be kind just before she died. Also this is seen right before the prince s father died and
tells his the same message. Cinderella acted this way mainly because she was the princess not by

Summary Of The Power And The Glory Myths Of American...
The Power and the Glory: Myths of American Exceptionalism by Howard Zinn brings light to
American exceptionalism which is the perception that the United States differs from other
countries. He starts off by providing an example of when this idea of exceptionalism started; using
the phrase a city upon a hill creates an image of liberty and democracy in which others can look to
as an example. This image is slandered when the morality of past actions such as the massacres of
Native American villages throughout the country are brought into the picture. Conquering territory
and the mistreatment of the occupants who choose to resist are constant throughout history. The
justification that goes into expansion is seen as divinely ordained ; such

Crucible Political Allegory
The Crucible is a play by American playwright, Arthur Miller. Miller is famous for his works on
relevant social issues portrayed in his plays, often through allegorical devices. Allegory is a
common device used in a wide variety of literature. I have developed the hypothesis that The
Crucible is a political allegory . I will critically review this with the focusing questions of What
is a political allegory? , How does The Crucible show elements of a political allegory? , and What
can we learn about modern society from the play? . To develop and informed critical
understanding, other critical responses must be analysed. My first response is The Liberal
Conscience in The Crucible by Robert Warshow. Warshow was a well respected critic who

I feel that one of the important things about The Crucible is how universal it is. The fact it is
political allegory allows us view the true nature of what it represents, which is important when
trying to analyse modern issues and improve the human condition. In today s society we can
draw a direct parallel between the issues around LGBT rights in Uganda and the Salem trials. In
Uganda we see LGBT being actively persecuted. Newspapers print the names of those suspected
of being LGBT and these people are actively persecuted by both mobs, similar to the hysteric
mob we see in various parts of the Crucible, and also the law. Laws have been passed over there
which have resulted in the courts being able to issue the death penalty to those deemed LGBT.
People have been known to blame others for being LGBT just to try and lessen their on sentence
or be let off. This is a modern witch hunt happening currently. This supports the view of Warshow
when he said there will always be witch hunts (Warshow, 2008). Woolway brings up another
modern equivalent when she raises the point of the people in the US and UK who were accused
of child abuse despite being innocent, as revealed later. She said The episode has undertones of
child abuse the accusation recalls recent cases in the U.S. and Britain where allegations of abuse
have been made against members of the community which have later seemed to be untrue
(Woolway, n.d.). Warshow s essay was originally written the same year as The Crucible was
published, so he doesn t have a more modern recollection of something resembling the events of
the crucible, but he seems to agree with both my own, and Woolway s analysis with the statements
...we must not be misled by it s obvious contemporary relevance: it is drama of universal
significance and also ...which is why witch trials are always with us, especially today . He seems
to believe that witch hunts are a part of the human

Comparison Of The Project Who s To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
DBQ Project Who s to Blame Blame is a word used to describe those who have some type of fault
in a situation. Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. When your love is
strong enough it can also be dangerous, Romeo and Juliet caused the death of six people in a
course of three days just so they can be together. In Romeo and Juliet there are many to blamefor the
cause of each death, but the most responsible for this situation are those who follow: Juliet,
Nurse, and Friar Lawrence. Juliet could have stopped the death of six people if she only told the
truth. The Nurse, also one to blame, could have spoke out and helped out in the situation. At last,
Friar Lawrence, he could have made the choice not to marry Romeo and Juliet, yet all he wanted
was for the Capulets and Montagues to be in peace. Juliet, such an innocent girl, one would not
think she is one to blame until you know her situation. With her being a Capulet and her husband
being a Montague, she knew she would have problems with her parents, especially since she told

Old Hueco Tanks Road Research Paper
Throughout the years roads have been a huge issue in the El Paso area. There have been many
road improvement projects suggested for the eastern part of El Paso county. Many roads have
begun to go under construction, but are they fixing the right roads? In the matter of Old Hueco
Tanks Road, there are many components missing; there s pretty much no road to begin with.
Old Hueco Tanks Road runs from Saint Peter and Paul s church on North loop to the beginning
of the Eastlake Road. This road isn t even a complete road to begin with. The Old Hueco Tanks
Road is composed of parts of a lost road, dirt, holes, and a decent amount of trash. This road is
very useful for the Socorro community, it leads you to the i 10, as well as to school if you
attend the El Paso Community College at Mission. As previously said the road is a mess, over
fifty vehicles have had an incident passing through this road. There is also a new attraction, El

Kitty And Preya Essay
What did you like about this script?
The characterization for both Kitty and Preya s characters in this pilot were done really well in
regard to the arc of the script and the intentions the writer seems to have for the show as a whole.
Though the world they live in is still a male dominated one and full of corruption, Preya s character
has a genuine knowledge skill and a natural intimidation about herself that demands respect from
those around her.
Likewise, with Kitty s determination, resourceful and unrelenting focus on trying to find and
rescue her friend, Jos in this script emulate not only that the two share a very strong bond, but also
Kitty s fearlessness. In such a restricted, poverty and crime filled area with cops who seem to be

Although the writer has set up the show s overall focus to be on Nadine and her Femme Fatales
crew, the narrative still struggles with its plot point clarity and aspects of a contradictory theme and
tone.
In the second act, the writer shifts focus from Kitty and Jos characters to introduce Nadine, Selina
and Anya and their connection to Marcy. Their introduction and development hold a key part in
this show. However, by the end of the pilot, Kitty s background and character are still unknown to
the reader/audience, Jos is still missing, and the media and Preya have taken an interest in Nadine
and her crew.
Additionally, another girl has fallen into the hands of the Mannequin Man and Kitty was
unsuccessful in getting the Femme Fatales to agree to help her search for her friend, which brings
her character and the reader/audience back to square one in regard to the progression of the
narrative.
Likewise, despite the writer s successful show of feminine power and authority, the male presence
still has an over barring, controlling and disrespectful constraint over the female population as
evident by Jos abduction, Preya s sexes confrontation at the crime scene on page 12 and Kitty s
near attack in the

Getting Into the Mind of a Late Medieval Peasant Essay
Getting Into the Mind of a Late Medieval Peasant
The middle Ages were dark and gloomy. People lived in castles and rode on horses. They
constantly fought each other with swords and shields. That mainly sums up the Middle Ages, right
a world with no technology sounds almost horrifying. However, there were many forms of
Medieval Technology. Of course they didn t have electricity or batteries in the middle Ages, but that
s not all technology is. Technology is the application of science, especially in industry or
commerce. So basically, anything that improves or makes life easier is a form of technology. With
that in mind, the invention of those swords, shields, and castles of the middle ... Show more content

Hence, the windmill and water mill of the middle Ages were very important industrial
advancements.
Medieval Industrial Technology has also been characterized by many agricultural improvements.
Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia
Minor, but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two
wheels, and pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated
land of weeds and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did
expose them to the air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed
erosion caused by heavy rains.
Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough,
horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of
the light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough. The
collar puts the workload on the horse s shoulders instead of the back or neck, such as in earlier
models. The horse collar allowed horses to use more power without straining their necks or backs.
Medieval Farming benefited immensely from these two important, agricultural inventions.
Medieval Construction and building also benefited from the invention of the horse collar. The

Ancient Solar Architecture Essay
Ancient Solar Architecture
Passive solar design and architecture may seem like a distant dream in our fast paced modern
world, but in reality it s more of a modern revival of a style of energy efficient building that has
been around for millennia. What once seemed to be common sense ideas for designing a house
that could both keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter has somehow been forgotten
since we started to overuse the planet s resources on our own comforts. When heating a house took
lots of effort it was the wise choice to design a building that could use the energy provided by the
sun in the most advantageous ways. Unfortunately, in my opinion, since all we have to do now to
heat our house is a turn a dial and pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only is it the actual building either that needs to be thought about, but also the shape, style
and location of the external features that can be used for shading and other purposes. Again, this
is not a new idea. In 1 B.C., Vitruvius, the chief architect of the Roman Empire said, We must
begin by taking note of the climate in which buildings are to be built if our designs for them are
to be correct . One type building seems appropriate for Egypt, another for Spain, one still different
for Rome, and so on with lands and countries of varying characteristics. Some civilizations even
used solar architecture for purposes other than for heat. The Egyptian pyramids were able to
oriented to track the position of the sun. There were many temples that had shafts that could be
opened on certain days like the solstice to allow light beams down to an altar . This is very
impressive considering that the exact angles of the sun s rays had to be calculated and then the
shafts had to be accurately constructed in order to perform as designed. This principle also
demonstrates how solar architecture doesn t have to be entirely for heating and cooling. The
design of solar homes can be very pleasing to the occupants. They are often more open and well
lighted, and they give the feel of being more connected to nature since the house actually changes as
the outside world changes.
One of the civilizations that we know the most about was Greece. They began to use

Examples Of Foolishness In Othello
Othello s Foolishness
The tragedy Othello by William Shakespeare is a story based on the revenge of the main two
characters, Iago from Othello. Othello also known as the Moor is a man of discipline, honor and a
leader of men. He is a warrior who has served the army for many years. He is a well respected
officer in the Venetian State army. This is apparent as the Duke of Venice greets Othelloby saying,
Valiant Othello, we must straight employ you against the general enemy Ottoman. (1.3.48 9). He is
not a native Italian which makes him to be an outsider. Not being a native may make others jealous
of his rank and the respect he receives from others.

As nothing else could match. (3.4.50 63)
When her mother was dying, she passed on the handkerchief to Othello and told him to give it to
his loved one. Othello is a fool to believe that the handkerchief has magic in its webs and that if
Desdemona loses the handkerchief or gives it to someone, they would lose their love as well. He
even warns Desdemona about this and how it would be a great loss for them.
After killing Desdemona, Othello knows that he has done a thing which has left no space for
forgiveness for him. He is mostly blaming Iago for this action of his and we can see it where he
says:
O ill starred wench,
Pale as thy smock! When we shall meet at compt

And fiends will snatch at it. Cold, cold, my girl,

Dynamic Tuning In or Empathetic Listening
We ve all dealt with this scenario: James does something that Mickey takes as an insult. Mickey
strikes back with either words or fists. James, now confused, provides equal violence of Mickey s
actions. A scenario like this can quickly turn sour even when both parties had no reason to start
aggression. The reason for all this fuss is a mistake to understand communication. Although there
may be other sources to conflicts, this is what lies in the most of said conflicts.
Indeed, misinterpretation of plans or goals can occur when both parties fail to communicate with
another. When these two groups are not conferencing, is no way to be clear on goals, plans, or
positions; effects of this can also start rumors. Even when groups speak as politely and even seem
genuine about their actions towards one another, there can be still the problem of cultural

Even with parties with vast cultural backgrounds, misconceptions can develop since personal

Dying with dignity is a growing movement that works to ensure terminally ill Americans have
the freedom to choose from a full range of end of life options, including how they die (Death
with dignity). Currently, only four states, California, Oregon, Washington and Vermont have
death with dignity laws. Now there are twenty six other states considering these laws (Death
with dignity). The Death with Dignity laws are a great addition to practices already in place.
They give patients of all stages of terminal illness the right to end their life before the end stages
of pain and suffering occur. Perhaps patients would not have had to endure such suffering which
may lead to the removal of life support had she had the right to choose her death long before
such life saving devices were needed. I believe that every patient who is suffering has the right
to choose to end such suffering. In my first year of critical care nursing, I have also assisted in
easing patients suffering during their last few days, hours and breaths. Death and dying acts
pertain more to patients who still maintain the ability to seek and obtain specific medication in
order to choose when to specifically end their life. I fully support this act as I believe that anyone,

The Basic Skills Of A Social Worker
As a social worker it is important to have basic communication skills in order to connect with
clients. There are six basic and four advanced skills that are used in direct practice to make
communication more effective. The basic skills include reflection of feelings, paraphrasing,
open ended questions, closed ended questions, clarification and attending behaviors. Advanced
skills are summarization, information giving, interpretation and confrontation. Not only is it
important to know what these skills are, it is also important to know what the appropriate and
inappropriate uses are. It also important to self reflect on your use of these skills and whether it
is a strength or something to continue to work to improve. Paraphrasing is a skill that is used to
restate a client s message using your own words. In this way a social worker can check to see if
his/her perceptions are similar to the clients. By paraphrasing it gives a client the opportunity to
comment back on what the social worker has said and also to confirm that their message is
being understood by the SW. This is also used so that you know that it is okay to move to
another topic. Appropriate uses of this skill would be when a client has made an important point,
and bring focus to an idea. Paraphrasing should not be used to mimic a response or when a client
is experiencing an extreme emotional response (Cummins, Sevel, Pedrick, p.86). I am fairly

Amy Winehouse s Death Media Analysis
Once upon a time, I woke up in the morning and decided to turn on the television and switch the
channel to the news. I instantly regretted the decision. Recently, the validity of news sources has
grown noticeably questionable. With lies and mistruths swarming around such an industry, it is
only natural to question various aspects of the industry as a whole. Upon further analysis,
celebrity stories strike me as an aspect that needs to be disposed of. News sources should not
publish celebrity stories since the numerous costs of the stories are much greater than is
permissible. The first reason celebrity stories are not worth publishing is due to the large time and
monetary costs of celebrity stories to the news agencies that produce them. One... Show more

This claim takes shape in how celebrity deaths teach people to not do what the celebrity did. In
particular, this is described in A Musical Matter of Life and Death: The Morality of Mortality
and the Coverage of Amy Winehouse s Death in the UK Press by Paula Hearsum, where she
analyzes the media coverage surrounding Amy Winehouse s death. In this article, Hearsum
states that Winehouse s death has brought the dangers of alcohol and drug dependency to light,
which helps society as a whole (193). Thus, the people that argue for this claim believe that
seeing the downfall of the celebrity merits writing articles about them. However, this argument
cannot be allowed to further the creation of celebrity news stories. First, these stories about
potential role models making poor decisions does not bode well for the children of the next
generation. A separate section Crack Down on the Celebrity Junkies : Does Media Coverage of
Celebrity Drug Use Pose a Risk to Young People? demonstrates this idea well. The researcher
state that reading about celebrities engulfed in drug use may affect the child s frame of reference
about drug use (Shaw 587). This means that children may obtain a warped belief on the damages
of poor behavior, perhaps justifying the action of engaging in destructive behavior later in life.
Furthermore, the stories could be told in a positive light, persuading people that poor behavioral
choices are normal. This is concept is described in part of Hearsum s essay. She states that
journalism s goal is to change the views of the audience being written for (Hearsum 183). This
means that articles supporting poor behavior in celebrities might negatively impact the decision
making of the people who read the articles. Finally, it is not ethical to encourage celebrity
journalism solely to teach

Ambulatory Care
Ambulatory care is a type of medical care that is provided to patients who do not need to be
admitted to a hospital for treatment. It is often referred to as outpatient care . It includes diagnosis,
observation, consultation, treatment, intervention, and rehabilitation services. Ambulatory care can
be delivered in a variety of settings, including doctor s offices, clinics, hospitals, emergency
departments, eye doctors, etc. This type of care tends to be preferred because most people want to
avoid staying in a hospitalmore than needed, and it is also less expensive. Most hospitals
encourage patients to choose outpatient care if it is possible, that way the facilities will be free for

more with less. This is not a task that any individual can undertake alone or that will ever be
finished, as new challenges and opportunities constantly arise. Towards my objective I work with
partners with diverse skill sets, interests, and backgrounds. Among my most important partners,
leading to some of my most significant and longest lasting impacts, are students, whom I learn from
and also teach.
Teacher, mentor and role model The last few years have been an exciting time for plant
breeders. Many PhD graduates are being hired by industry six months or more before they
graduate at close to six figure salaries. This demonstrates strong demand for these students. As I
educate more students to work in industry, my teaching goals, philosophies, and strategies, have
continuously evolved. Furthermore, new technologies, tools and findings are rapidly changing
how plant breeding is conducted. Currently I play two primary official roles as a teacher (in the
class room, as an adviser); however, I also have two unofficial teaching roles as a mentor, and as a
role model in my daily activities and in developing my programs ... Show more content on

Robert Frost sHome Burial, By Robert Frost
Home Burial
Robert Frost s poem Home Burial speaks of the tragedies in a couple s life. The theme of Home
Burial is centered around the death of a child. During the time period in which this poem took
place it seems that men did not show their feelings well. Home Burial demonstrates how one
tragedy can cause another to occur. The couple in this poem has lost a baby to death. The
mother is grieving and it seems she doesn t recover from this loss; parents who lose a child never
forget, but most people do find ways to cope and move on in life. The baby is buried in the family
burial site and can be seen from a window in the couple s home. Day after day she goes to the
stairway window looking at the family plot. Looking at the place where her child s body is buried
continues the sadness she feels. But, another emotion is contained in this wife and mother and that
is anger and bitterness at her husband. At first, the reason for her anger seems unknown. The
reasoning starts to show when it says she refused him any help, with the least stiffening of her
neck and silence. (lines13 14) Their dialogue is cold. What is it what? /Just that I see. / You don t,
she challenged. /Tell me what it is. (lines18 19). In the husband s first couple of lines and his last
one, his attitude toward his wife seems insensitive. First he tells her he wants to know why she
keeps looking at through the window; then he tells her she must tell him. Even though he ends the

Questions On The High School Girls
Readings: Bettie and Loewen
Question #1: Do the high school girls conform to these stereotypes because of peer pressure and
what they think they are supposed to do, or is there another reason? Although pressure to look and
act a certain way based on their supposed class places the girls in groups, teachers and the school
also played a role in this segregation and division. By separating the classes into college prep,
vocational prep, or job prep, the students are already being placed into groups. This limits the
opportunity the girl may have if they were to be placed in a college or vocational prep because
they feel they only have one option. This also limits the diversity in the groups, even though
there are some exceptions in the various groups. The school should have mixed all the supposed
cliques into multiple classes with different groups in one classroom. This would help break up
the cliques and promote more diversity among the girls. It would also allow teachers to reach
some students who may have felt pressured to act a certain way and avoid college prep, even if
they actually wanted to attend college. By separating the girls even farther apart than they have
separated themselves, the school and environment is making it harder and harder for girls to break
out of their supposed class and get to know each other. Several schools pride itself on diversity
because it allows them o teach in a different manner while encouraging all of the students that they
can achieve

Psychology in Silence of the Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs
1991
Director Jonathan Demme
Writer Thomas Harris
Cinematographer Tak Fujimoto
Jodie Foster Clarice Starling
Anthony Hopkins Dr. Hannibal Lecter AKA Hannibal the Cannibal
Scott Glenn Jack Crawford
Ted Levine Jame Gumb AKA Buffalo Bill
Theme can be defined as a central insight. According to the authors of The Art of Watching Films,
a theme in a literary work or film should be universal and should be one that challenges people
(Boggs Petric, 2008). The Silence of the Lambs shows that peoples search for peace is universal.
We see characters from all walks of life searching for peace. There is Clarice Starling, an FBI agent
in training, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You think if Catherine lives, you won t wake up in the dark ever again to that awful screaming
of the lambs (Demme, 1991). Clarice claims she doesn t know and it is possible she truly doesn
t, but we can see in her face that wants it to be true. We see the pain in her face and her desire to
be released from the screaming and find peace. Director Jonathan Demme lets us connect with
the characters by shattering the fourth wall. He positions the camera so Clarice is essentially
talking to the audience in extreme close up shots. This technique instills her anguish into the
audience. Clarice then becomes more demanding, asking for the killer s name but before
Hannibal can answer Dr. Frederick Chilton informs her it s time to go. She is nearly dragged out
of the room, but breaks free to run back to Hannibal s cage and retrieve her case files. The visual
style up to this point in the scene has been dark, but when Clarice rushes to the cage, there is light
illuminating Hannibal. Clarice running towards this light represents her search for peace. She is
hoping the clues left by Dr. Lecter in the case files will enable her to catch the killer, save the
kidnapped girl, and stop the lambs from screaming.
The Silence of the Lambs is traditionally considered a horror film. However, it is more than that. It
is a great reference to sociology because it touches on so many topics important to people (Kim,
2010). Throughout the movie we

Buddhism, Hinduism, But Still From India
If you did not follow Hinduism, but still from India, you may follow Buddhism. This religion
founded in North eastern India is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama known as the
Buddha. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha meaning awakened
one or the enlightened one . Originating as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman
tradition of the day, Buddhismquickly developed in a distinctive direction than Hinduism. The
Buddha rejected significant aspects of Hindu philosophy, but also he challenged the authority of the
priesthood. He denied the validity of the Vedic scriptures, and rejected the sacrificial cult based on
them. Moreover, he opened his movement to members of all castes, denying that a person s
spiritual worth is a matter of birth or class. Buddhism analyzes human existence as made up of five
aggregates: the material body, the feelings, the perceptions, the predispositions, and the
consciousness. A person is only a temporary combination of these aggregates, which are subject to
continual change. No one of these aggregates remains the same for any two consecutive moments.
Buddhists deny that the five aggregates (our material body, our feelings, our perceptions, our
predispositions, and our consciousness), individually or in combination, may be considered a
permanent and independently existing self or soul (atman). They regard it as a mistake to conceive
of any lasting unity behind the elements that constitute an

The Importance Of The Kelly Ayotte Campaign Essay
The Kelly Ayotte campaign was a well run organization and played a large role in getting the
New Hampshire citizens to the voting booth. I was honored to serve with such great people
from who came to New Hampshire from all over the country. These people like myself, wanted
to hopefully help Kelly Ayotte get re elected to the senate. The campaign headquarters was based
out of a first floor office, located in the Brady Sullivan Tower in Manchester. I was a man of
many tasks, and tried to help where I was needed depending on the day. I volunteered in the
office and was out in the field, knocking door to door. My job was incredibly important because
going into the start of my service I knew the senate race was going to be extremely close, the
closest Senate race in the country for that matter. As we observed, the race was extremely close
and unfortunately my candidate lost three weeks ago. Although, it was not the outcome we were
looking for, I have a couple of theories of why we may have lost by only eight hundred votes. If
more un educated voters exercised their right to vote, the outcome could have possibly been
different. Whether we like it or not, most of the citizens in Manchester New Hampshireare not as
well versed on public issues and candidates. However, towns including Bedford and Merrimack
were very well versed. Towns including Bedford take electioncycles more seriously and in my eyes
seemed more educated on the issues. The experience volunteering on the Kelly

The Merchant Of Death Story Arc
The Merchant of Death story arc continues to mirror that of the one developed by George Lucas.
While the entirety of Episode IV: A New Hope could be categorized as a completion of Hero s
Journey, to better understand Luke Skywalker s transition from farm boy to Jedi Knight, all the
sequels of the Star Wars saga can be explored to create a more unified representation. In Episode
V: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke is deployed on the barren planet Hoth serving the Rebel
Alliance when he is called on by Ben Kenobi s spirit; he instructs Skywalker to travel to the
Dagobah system to complete his Jeditraining. Amidst a Rebel retreat after an attack from the
Galactic Empire, Luke travels to his intended star system with the goal in mind of finding another
master. Eventually, crash landing in the swamp ridden planet of Dagobah, Luke encounters a
seemingly meager creature who pesters him to the point of frustration, only to find out the
individual was Jedi Master Yoda. After consulting the protagonist s former instructor, Yoda
dismissively accepts Luke as his padawan learner. Though Luke had received training from Obi
Wan, his knowledge, and training in the use of Force was limited, therefor constraining full
potential. Even with the guidance from a Master Jedi, he continuously failed his master s obscure
tests, which can be attributed to Luke s lack of faith in himself. This mentality facilitated his
uncertainty and frustration to the point where even Yoda had doubts on his legitimacy

Then the movie focused on the question what did really happen to the dinosaurs? Sixty five
million years ago, a six mile wide asteroid hurtling through space at 15 kilometers per second
slammed into what is now Mexico s Yucatan Peninsula at a site known as Chicxulub. The impact
had left a crater 110 to 170 miles in diameter buried nearly a kilometer underground and sparked
massive volumes of ash into Earth s atmosphere. This impact is believed to end the existence of
the dinosaur and paved the way for the rise of mammals and other species which is now in
existence. Scientists have identified 139 impact craters scattered over the surface of the Earth as a
result of the main impact. The collision was so catastrophic and enriched dust high into the
atmosphere, shutting off sunlight for weeks or months and cooling the planet. Acid rain and
wildfires also followed the collision, many plants died, as did many of the animals that ate them
including the dinosaurs. Then the movie was focus on the questions, could such a collision happen
again? and is there anything we can do to prevent another major collision if imminent? Although
there are many asteroids that strike the Earth everyday, their size and impacts are very small which
goes unnoticed in most cases. Some of the asteroids even burns off in the atmosphere before it

Beach Burial Poem Analysis
Throughout history, poetry was often used in conflict with glorified or ambiguous images of war
being presented to the people at home, revealing the truth and brutality of war. Bruce Dawe,
Kenneth Slessor, Carol Ann Duffy and Wilfred Owen are well known anti war poets who express
their concerns ad objections of warthrough poetry. Dawe s Homecoming and Slessor s Beach Burial
explore the vastness of war and the futile magnitude of soldiers who had fallen in battle, never to
return home. Contrastingly, Duffy s War Photographer and Owen s Arms and the Boy comment on
the disability of psychologically returning home, exploring the corruption of innocence and youth,
with those involved in war never to return home as the same person.

Duffy uses four regular, six line stanzas to impose order amongst the agonies in black and white,
the photographer has to not only develop as a part of his job, but to psychologically grapple with
in the remainder of his life. Similarly, Owen has employed three regular, four line stanzas, however
this structural order emulates the removal of freedom that comes with youth, expressing the
corruption of the soldiers ability to return to their innocence. Duffy ends each stanza in a rhyming
couplet to strengthen the routine placed amidst the chaos of war and drive home her point of the
psychological aftermath of war on everyone involved. Contrastingly, Owen utilises pararhymes
flash / flesh , teeth / death to denote the inaptness of young boys being armed with weapons, forced
to soon mature to escape their foreseeable death, never to return as innocent youths. Duffy s use of
sibilance spools of suffering causes the reader to hiss words, emphasising the prevalent callousness
of war. Similarly, Owen has incorporated sibilance Sharp with the sharpness to augment the
malevolency associated with weaponry, disengaging young soldiers from their innocence, never to
be the same again. Owen

prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. Unfortunately, opiates can become addictive over
time. Once someone is addicted, one of the first questions they ask is, How long do opiates stay in
your system? The answer to this question depends on the individual, the severity of their addiction
and the length of their addiction.
How Long Do Opiates Stay in Your System After Using Them?
An estimated 26.4 to 36 million people in the world are believed to abuse opiates. In general,
opiates have a short half life. This means that the chemicals leave the body fairly quickly.

Statistical Analysis Examples
Statistical Analyses The following physiological measures were assessed for statistical
significance: RMSSD, HF power, SBP, DBP and HR. A natural log transformation was applied to
HRV measures prior to the analysis. Each measure was analyzed using a one way repeated
measures ANOVA across each experimental condition: baseline, stressor, recovery. The application
of repeated measures ANOVA calls for the assumption that the dependent variables follow a
normal distribution. In the context of this study, normal distribution cannot be demonstrated given
the small sample size. However, the present study serves as a pilot study and thus normality will
be overlooked in favor of obtaining a sense of the quality of the physiological data. As such, the
presence of a normal distribution will be assumed for subsequent statistical analyses. Additionally,
the assumption of Mauchly s Test of Sphericity was assumed to be violated in each case, and the
Greehouse Geisser correction was used in the resulting analyses. Post hoc tests with Bonferroni s
correction were conducted to assess statistical significancebetween each experimental condition
with one another. An О± level of .05 was used, therefore probability values .05 were determined to
be significant.

Communication and Why We Need Effective Communication
Introduction
With every interaction, whether active or passive, we find ourselves communicating with other
people. Even our silence connotes some intention, which others may interpret at their discretion.
Whether by artifact or by attendance, every human being constantly participates in the process of
communication
Defining Communication
Communication means exchange of ideas, views, opinion, understanding, feelings, emotions, facts
or information between two or more persons by any sources or medium.
Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life... John A.

The importance of communication is best understood when there is a lack of it. Listening,
understanding and interpreting are as much integral to communication as words verbal, written or
gestured. How we communicate or express ourselves goes a great way towards determining how
our expressions are interpreted.
To quote Karl Popper, It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood .
Faulty or incomplete communication can completely mar the purpose of communicating and may
result in damaging consequences. This is where understanding the importance of communication
and communicating the right way comes into picture. Not everyone is equally endowed with the
ability to effectively express himself and this is where the importance of communication skills can
be truly fathomed. The importance of communication is equal in every walk of like, be it in
personal, professional or social life.
Components of Communication
Communication is effective when a concise and clear message is delivered well, received
successfully, and understood fully. The process of communication has the following distinct
components: the sender the message the medium the receiver feedback. The Communication

Larry E. Tise s Conquering The Sky
Preface Imagine looking up in the sky and not seeing a single plane or satellite. Some people
may not notice it, but seeing planes in the sky has become a natural everyday sight. Without the
brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, this may not have been possible. The Wright brothers
simple success of achieving air travel has led to more than they could have possibly imagined.
They not only built the first plane, but they set down a building block towards modern planes
and space travel. The Wright brothers invention of the plane was a major turning point in history,
not only leading to modern aircraft we have today commercial and war but also a stepping stone
towards space travel. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright were four
years apart. Although they were only bicycle makers, both brothers had a love of science and kept
up with the latest researchers, one of their favorites being Otto Lilienthal, a German aviator. His
work inspired the brothers to start their own experiments, in hopes to develop a working... Show

Most people think they know what happened and how it was achieved. However, what most
people don t know is that after the plane successfully flew, they kept it a secret for over a year, as
explained in Larry E. Tise s book, Conquering the Sky . Throughout said year they perfected their
plane, fixing small aspects, but around this time the media had gotten news. To ensure nobody
stole their ideas, from then on they tested in secret, flying as little as possible, and the publicity
died down. Larry E. Tise writes in his book Conquering the Sky , The Wrights had released no
picture nor allowed one to be published of any of their powered airplanes, either on the ground or
in flight. They secretly operated in Kitty Hawk, far from watching eyes. Finally in 1908, the
brothers were ready to become public with the invention that would change the

Diversity In Downtown Areas
The vision for downtown districts will vary from city to city; however, there are a number of
policies in place to help preserve and provide affordable housing for low income at risk
populations throughout downtown districts. Therefore, the vision for downtown districts should
always include some sort of diversity of incomes. Diversity should always be a key component and
downtown managers, leaders, and developers are committed to providing and building homes that
are reasonably priced. Low income housing is generally defined as housing affordable to
households that make below 50 percent of the area median income. In many instances this means
that these individuals will receive public subsidies, or either direct payment goes to the project
owner through vouchers and certificates.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The report goes on to say that in order to maintain healthy balance within downtown districts, the
new low income residents will include teachers, policeman, and fireman, child care workers,
medical technicians, elderly, and the disabled, and single parent families. So as I read this
information I realize there are several contradictions. In one breath, the downtown district is
suitable for certain classes of people which make a clear distinction between what the downtown
district considers healthy and unhealthy. As a social worker this raises some red flags for me.
This leads me to believe that a certain classes of people are preferred and accepted. They may be
low income but they are still preferred because they are considered the working class, and to hear
that the concept of affordability shifts as the economy shifts is disheartening. So I can see that the
vision will include diversity among incomes; however, truth be told, displacement and
gentrification is a lived experience for

The Influences Of The Scientific Revolution On The...
The Influences of the Scientific Revolution on the Enlightenment
The Scientific Revolution was a period of rapid scientific advances that occurred in the European
nations between the 16th and 17th century. Famed scientists such as Nicolaus Copernicus and
Galileo Galilei questioned the widely held beliefs on astronomy based upon the assertions of the
Catholic church. These curiosities lead to an unquenchable desire to explore and observe the
occurences of the natural world and slowly lead the scientists away from the authority of the
church. More scientists such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes focused their explorations on
inductive and deductive reasoning to more efficiently analyze situations. Philosophers during the
Enlightenment used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Novum Organum, written by Francis Bacon, focused on how to hypothesize during experiments.
Bacon suggested that it is idle to expect any great advancement in science from super inducing and
engrafting of new things upon old. Bacon also emphasized the fact that only referencing arguments
on past experiments was pointless. By only viewing past experiments, it was impossible for
scientists to develop more in their new experiments. The combination of viewing both types of
experiments, new and old, was a major part of inductive reasoning. Descartes focused more on
deductive reasoning compared to Bacon. Rene aspired to create a new system of truth through
deductive reasoning. In his book, I Think, Therefore I Am, he stated that he refused to accept any
knowledge unless it was clearly true. Another one of his methods was to isolate each part of
everything he examined to avoid bias. Descartes found through his methods that deductive
reasoning required only accepting the truth, breaking the problem into parts and analyzing the
problem. John Locke addressed inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning with his theories in his
publication, Some Thoughts Concerning Education. John Locke claimed that every person was
born with a clean slate and their education was vital to their well being. His mission to

  • 2. Picard s Argument Analysis I learned so much from our guest speaker, Andre Picard, the Globe and Mail s Public Health reporter. He made me rethink my whole perspective on patients right with his talk about assisted suicide and abortion. Contrary to popular belief, doctors are not bound by the Hippocratic Oath. However, they may choose to do so and follow it. Consequently, this means that they can refuse assisted suicideas it harms someone s life. What really struck me was when he said that he believed that a patients rights should triumph doctors oath to protect and save. This was appalling to me at first, but after giving it more thought it made sense. I was able to piece together what he meant by that as the right to have a choice gives people autonomy and dignity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a right that is often overlooked. I agreed with Picard when he provided that the right to die is in a way a symbolic right that we should have as it gives us a choice if certain requirements are met. I also found it interesting that the concern of the slippery slope is not always the case /problem. After the discussion, I saw my perspective change as I began to agree and see where Picard was coming from. In the end, I also found myself agreeing with the premise that the patients right triumph over the right of doctors to reject if death is imminent. The consumer movement was something I never heard off and was surprised of having learned that the language around differentiating cancer varied (e.g. taboo to say breast cancer, so they used to say women s cancer ). Over time, people progressed and moved away from that as cancer became a more discussed topic. Especially with the terry Fox, the movement was brought into public view. Overall, I found Andre Picard had great thoughts on public policy and how human rights will evolve over time. As he asserted in class, people will come out and discusses their story before the public even if it is a private matter just to advance the right. He used to example of Rodriguez and how she brought forth a court case to show the public that this issue needs to be examined even though she eventually ended her life through an illegal physician assisted ... • 3. The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive without anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year, water sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the world, about 1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity, another 25% of population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from river or lake (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) пјЊand water sustainability is to make sure people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem, bad location and inefficient water use, but government have some solutions like use water more efficient and reduce waste. Israel used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has been solved by new technology. Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to water scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded by Israel, Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts cause hot and dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in Egypt. Because almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture in Egypt, which leads to wasteful irrigation techniques such as flood irrigation, this system losing 3 billion cubic ... • 4. Foolishness In A Midsummer Night s Dream Many people can be foolish because of the decisions they decide to make, surprisingly even fairies can be fools. In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, fairies are just as fools as humans can be. From Bottom turning into an ass. Puck s mistake in applying the love potion on the wrong person. Oberon s decision to apply the love potion on his wife. By looking at the foolishness of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, it is evident that Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies People unknowingly are constantly being a victim of something they weren t unaware of. For Bottom he was transformed into an ass for a prank that he was unaware about. This happens when Puck had a task to make Titania... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oberon was so jealous over a boy that he decides to apply the potion on his own wife Titania, wanting her to fall in love with the first ugly creature she see s. Oberon makes this decision because he gets into a fight with Titania with how her attention is more towards the changeling boy then over him, making him want to apply the potion. This is a foolish thing to do because Oberon should understand that Titania is taking care of this baby because she feels like she owes the mother of the child, he should know that the little boys need a lot of attention to be taken care of. Instead of feeling jealous, he should of felt proud that his wife was doing a kind act. Instead he takes it in the wrong way, playing a mean prank on his wife and making her fall in love with Bottom, to take away the changeling boy. People are fools, even to their loved ones . As a result of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, they prove that Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies. Bottom shows that he is fool with playing on with the tricks and actually thinking that a Queen loves him. Puck is a fool because he applies the love potion on the wrong person making the plot change many times. Oberon is a fool because instead of accepting the act of kindness his wife is doing, he is jealous. Fools are not just in mortals, but in fairies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Debate Over Stimulated And Overly Connected Over Stimulated and Overly Connected: It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect Jacquelyn Gentry Eastern Kentucky University Over Stimulated and Overly Connected: It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very socially engaged via social media. They develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a teenager off from their device is to socially exile them from the world. In other words, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to unwind, think about your day, come up with possible resolutions.to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Determinism, Hard And Soft Determinism: According to Sappington (1990) there are two types of determinism, hard and soft. He states that those who hold hard determinism say that human behavior is completely determined by outside factors and that ideas such a free will or moral responsibility are meaningless. Many famous psychologists take this approach such as Freud who believed that people s behavior is controlled by unconscious factors and any conscious reasons given are simply the brain rationalizing actions to the superego. Skinner argued against Freud and said that behavior is determined by their reinforcement histories. Although they argue on the finer points they both believe that conscious choice is irrelevant. The second kind of determinism that Sappington (1990) speaks of is soft determinism which is the belief that human behavior is determined, but this does not mean that free will is incompatible with it. This view is says that people make choices that affect their lives but these choices themselves are determined by other factors. According to Sappington (1990) Hobbes, Locke Hume, and Mill represent this position among with many other famous psychologists. The idea of soft determinism is not controversial in psychology today. (Sappington 1990) Is belief in free will or determinism mutually exclusive or can one hold both views? Philosophers have contrasted compatibilist and incompatibilist positions (Sappington 1990). Incompatibilists argue that people cannot believe both views, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canto 18 of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri Essay Canto 18 of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri It was once said by Marcel Proust that We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can make for us, which no one can spare us... . This journey through the wild to discover wisdom is exactly what transpires in The Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The Inferno is an epic poem that is the first section of a three part poem called The Divine Comedy. The Inferno is about the narrator, Dante, traveling through the layers of Hell and learning about the men and women in Hell, and ultimately why God is punishing them there. One of the most representative parts of The Inferno as a whole is Canto 18. Canto 18 is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite not reading all of The Inferno, the certain part I did read gave me a true illustration of the entire work. Particularly in Canto 18, readers observe Dante s writing techniques as well as the main ideas or themes present in the work. Canto 18 is an especially excellent illustration of Dante as a visual poet and his imagery. For example, it begins with Dante describing Malebolge as made of all stone the color of crude iron / as is the wall that makes it way around it. / Right in the middle of the evil field / is an abyss, a broad and yawning pit (2 5). Dante continues in writing more of a unique description about the geography of Hell. His descriptiveness allows readers to feel and see the cold, crude iron surrounding Malebolge and see the huge pit in the middle, too. As when I read the description of the geography, Dante s writing creates fear in me just as he does for other readers in all parts of The Inferno. Besides Dante s visual poetry, he also includes very shocking imagery that affects all five of the senses. Canto 18 holds an excellent example of Dante s imagery. At the end of the canto, Dante writes, The ditch beneath / held people plunged in excrement that seemed / as if it had been poured from human privies (112 114). These few lines are a wonderful portrayal of the extremely, shocking details he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is defined as a mental disorder in which an individual has a pervasive pattern of grandiosity . . . lack of empathy, [is] self centered and require the admiration of others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206). Although Narcissism has it own symptoms, it has similarities with other disorders such as disregard of others, instability in relationships, tend to be emotional and attention seeking, and exaggerate self importance. Though the exact cause of this personality disorderis unknown, there have been numerous speculations and theories. While most people would clearly be aware of the fact that they have to wait in line (as most individuals do) in order to pay for their items and be on their way, a narcissists would disagree. This is because Narcissist as talked about the Abnormal Psychology book, . . . do not care to wait in line or take their turn: they expect special privileges because of their obvious superiority to others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206). They believe and view themselves as priority regardless of their location or circumstance. In their minds limits, exclusions, the word no, or off limits does not apply to them simply because of their apparent superiority to others. Due to these beliefs, they . . . are condescending and haughtily in attitude and behavior. (206) towards anyone who crosses their path. This too applies to their relationships, whether family, social, or acquaintance. Narcissist view others as means to their ends, because of their perspective they do not feel empathy and use others for their own gains. Which is why often times, they will surround themselves with individuals that will feed their ego due to that, they always want, look for, and expect to receive compliments from others. However, if they do not receive the attention or compliments expected, this will further encourage their Narcissistic ways in order to protect the well being of their ego and avoid ... A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. As an anti heroic is one who doesn t act like a typical hero but often is a little villainous. Heroes are from many different cultures for example superman and batman. Merriam Webster traces its first appearance back to 1714 and murkily defines it as a protagonist or notable figure who is considerably lacking in heroic qualities. Charles Bartholomew Joseph Chuck Bass is a fictional character in the novel and television show Gossip Girl. Chuck Bass is known as the show s antihero. For example, he cheats, lies or uses the power of money to make his friends happy or get what they want. He isn t the traditional anti heroic because he is more relatable to people. His character traits have changed since starting in the first episode to the last episode in season six. During season one Chuck was shy, and unlikeable. Also, he is considered the bad boy. He was only interested in girls, himself and money. In an episode, he says Why should I be... an usher? I m Chuck Bass. This is an example of how his unlikable personality came across to others. Then by the end of the third season he shows us a sensitive side. By the third season, Chuck shows a nicer side and is likable. • 11. The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars, looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it. Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun s first plans to NASAnew plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to the dream of stepping foot on the red planet. We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story is set in a post war period, when poverty and diseases are everywhere. We can know this by looking at the date written under the title, September 1948 . The story happened in a working class family in Ireland. We can know that it is set in Ireland from the little sister s name. From the sentencein line 7, Una. My younger sister, Una. We know that her name is Una, which is an Irish name, so we can know that it is an Irish family. The author uses quite a lot of sensory appeal in the third paragraph where the narrator is imagining things about the diseases names. They are mainly sounds and smells. There is a lexical choice of vocabulary in line 25, IT had a fright and hiss in it , this sentences has the word hiss which we usually uses to describe snakes. This shows that the disease is as danger as snakes. Imagery can be found in the prose too, in the last paragraph, line 48, the autumn air darkening using the image of autumn being the period when most living things die to describe the dying image. Last but not least, rhetorical questions can be found in the last paragraph. What ideas did the author expressed through the passage? Poverty is showed in the passage through the shoes of the characters, knowing how harsh the lives of the mother and the uncles have. However, the main idea of the passage is the child learning about the nature of death. We know that the child doesn t know much about the disease nor death, having all those questions that have no answers. He has fear and is too sudden to him that he can hardly accept. He is far too young that limited his view point which is expressed by limiting the view point to only seeing feet when being under a table. • 13. Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the most popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden book, the Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from the original story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and similarities between the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions. There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is circles, which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book is A pumpkin rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is becoming complete because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she marries. Another example of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms version There she had to do hard work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows wholeness in the morning when the sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle. Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is coming complete because she has found her destiny which is the price she meets at the ball. The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the Little Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the prince lived happily ever after (12). The Power and the Glory: Myths of American Exceptionalism by Howard Zinn brings light to American exceptionalism which is the perception that the United States differs from other countries. He starts off by providing an example of when this idea of exceptionalism started; using the phrase a city upon a hill creates an image of liberty and democracy in which others can look to as an example. This image is slandered when the morality of past actions such as the massacres of Native American villages throughout the country are brought into the picture. • 15. Crucible Political Allegory The Crucible is a play by American playwright, Arthur Miller. Miller is famous for his works on relevant social issues portrayed in his plays, often through allegorical devices. Allegory is a common device used in a wide variety of literature. I have developed the hypothesis that The Crucible is a political allegory . I will critically review this with the focusing questions of What is a political allegory? , How does The Crucible show elements of a political allegory? , and What can we learn about modern society from the play? . To develop and informed critical understanding, other critical responses must be analysed. My first response is The Liberal Conscience in The Crucible by Robert Warshow. The fact it is political allegory allows us view the true nature of what it represents, which is important when trying to analyse modern issues and improve the human condition. In today s society we can draw a direct parallel between the issues around LGBT rights in Uganda and the Salem trials. In Uganda we see LGBT being actively persecuted. Newspapers print the names of those suspected of being LGBT and these people are actively persecuted by both mobs, similar to the hysteric mob we see in various parts of the Crucible, and also the law. Laws have been passed over there which have resulted in the courts being able to issue the death penalty to those deemed LGBT. People have been known to blame others for being LGBT just to try and lessen their on sentence or be let off. This is a modern witch hunt happening currently. This supports the view of Warshow when he said there will always be witch hunts (Warshow, 2008). Woolway brings up another modern equivalent when she raises the point of the people in the US and UK who were accused of child abuse despite being innocent, as revealed later. She said The episode has undertones of child abuse the accusation recalls recent cases in the U.S. and Britain where allegations of abuse have been made against members of the community which have later seemed to be untrue (Woolway, n.d.). Warshow s essay was originally written the same year as The Crucible was published, so he doesn t have a more modern recollection of something resembling the events of the crucible, but he seems to agree with both my own, and Woolway s analysis with the statements ...we must not be misled by it s obvious contemporary relevance: it is drama of universal significance and also ...which is why witch trials are always with us, especially today . Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. Hence, the windmill and water mill of the middle Ages were very important industrial advancements. Medieval Industrial Technology has also been characterized by many agricultural improvements. Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia Minor, but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two wheels, and pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated land of weeds and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did expose them to the air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed erosion caused by heavy rains. Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough, horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of the light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough. The collar puts the workload on the horse s shoulders instead of the back or neck, such as in earlier models. The horse collar allowed horses to use more power without straining their necks or backs. Medieval Farming benefited immensely from these two important, agricultural inventions. Medieval Construction and building also benefited from the invention of the horse collar. The ... One type building seems appropriate for Egypt, another for Spain, one still different for Rome, and so on with lands and countries of varying characteristics. Some civilizations even used solar architecture for purposes other than for heat. The Egyptian pyramids were able to oriented to track the position of the sun. There were many temples that had shafts that could be opened on certain days like the solstice to allow light beams down to an altar . This is very impressive considering that the exact angles of the sun s rays had to be calculated and then the shafts had to be accurately constructed in order to perform as designed. This principle also demonstrates how solar architecture doesn t have to be entirely for heating and cooling. The design of solar homes can be very pleasing to the occupants. • 33. The Basic Skills Of A Social Worker As a social worker it is important to have basic communication skills in order to connect with clients. There are six basic and four advanced skills that are used in direct practice to make communication more effective. The basic skills include reflection of feelings, paraphrasing, open ended questions, closed ended questions, clarification and attending behaviors. Advanced skills are summarization, information giving, interpretation and confrontation. Not only is it important to know what these skills are, it is also important to know what the appropriate and inappropriate uses are. It also important to self reflect on your use of these skills and whether it is a strength or something to continue to work to improve. Paraphrasing is a skill that is used to restate a client s message using your own words. In this way a social worker can check to see if his/her perceptions are similar to the clients. By paraphrasing it gives a client the opportunity to comment back on what the social worker has said and also to confirm that their message is being understood by the SW. This is also used so that you know that it is okay to move to another topic. Appropriate uses of this skill would be when a client has made an important point, and bring focus to an idea. Paraphrasing should not be used to mimic a response or when a client is experiencing an extreme emotional response (Cummins, Sevel, Pedrick, p.86). I am fairly comfortable with using paraphrasing. Recently, the validity of news sources has grown noticeably questionable. With lies and mistruths swarming around such an industry, it is only natural to question various aspects of the industry as a whole. Upon further analysis, celebrity stories strike me as an aspect that needs to be disposed of. News sources should not publish celebrity stories since the numerous costs of the stories are much greater than is permissible. The first reason celebrity stories are not worth publishing is due to the large time and monetary costs of celebrity stories to the news agencies that produce them. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This claim takes shape in how celebrity deaths teach people to not do what the celebrity did. In particular, this is described in A Musical Matter of Life and Death: The Morality of Mortality and the Coverage of Amy Winehouse s Death in the UK Press by Paula Hearsum, where she analyzes the media coverage surrounding Amy Winehouse s death. In this article, Hearsum states that Winehouse s death has brought the dangers of alcohol and drug dependency to light, which helps society as a whole (193). Thus, the people that argue for this claim believe that seeing the downfall of the celebrity merits writing articles about them. However, this argument cannot be allowed to further the creation of celebrity news stories. First, these stories about potential role models making poor decisions does not bode well for the children of the next generation. A separate section Crack Down on the Celebrity Junkies : Does Media Coverage of Celebrity Drug Use Pose a Risk to Young People? demonstrates this idea well. The researcher state that reading about celebrities engulfed in drug use may affect the child s frame of reference about drug use (Shaw 587). This means that children may obtain a warped belief on the damages of poor behavior, perhaps justifying the action of engaging in destructive behavior later in life. Furthermore, the stories could be told in a positive light, persuading people that poor behavioral choices are normal. This is concept is described in part of Hearsum s essay. She states that journalism s goal is to change the views of the audience being written for (Hearsum 183). This means that articles supporting poor behavior in celebrities might negatively impact the decision making of the people who read the articles. The theme of Home Burial is centered around the death of a child. During the time period in which this poem took place it seems that men did not show their feelings well. Home Burial demonstrates how one tragedy can cause another to occur. The couple in this poem has lost a baby to death. The mother is grieving and it seems she doesn t recover from this loss; parents who lose a child never forget, but most people do find ways to cope and move on in life. The baby is buried in the family burial site and can be seen from a window in the couple s home. Day after day she goes to the stairway window looking at the family plot. Looking at the place where her child s body is buried continues the sadness she feels. But, another emotion is contained in this wife and mother and that is anger and bitterness at her husband. At first, the reason for her anger seems unknown. The reasoning starts to show when it says she refused him any help, with the least stiffening of her neck and silence. (lines13 14) Their dialogue is cold. What is it what? /Just that I see. / You don t, she challenged. /Tell me what it is. (lines18 19). • 42. Questions On The High School Girls Readings: Bettie and Loewen Question #1: Do the high school girls conform to these stereotypes because of peer pressure and what they think they are supposed to do, or is there another reason? Although pressure to look and act a certain way based on their supposed class places the girls in groups, teachers and the school also played a role in this segregation and division. By separating the classes into college prep, vocational prep, or job prep, the students are already being placed into groups. This limits the opportunity the girl may have if they were to be placed in a college or vocational prep because they feel they only have one option. This also limits the diversity in the groups, even though there are some exceptions in the various groups. The school should have mixed all the supposed cliques into multiple classes with different groups in one classroom. This would help break up the cliques and promote more diversity among the girls. It would also allow teachers to reach some students who may have felt pressured to act a certain way and avoid college prep, even if they actually wanted to attend college. By separating the girls even farther apart than they have separated themselves, the school and environment is making it harder and harder for girls to break out of their supposed class and get to know each other. We see the pain in her face and her desire to be released from the screaming and find peace. Director Jonathan Demme lets us connect with the characters by shattering the fourth wall. He positions the camera so Clarice is essentially talking to the audience in extreme close up shots. This technique instills her anguish into the audience. Clarice then becomes more demanding, asking for the killer s name but before Hannibal can answer Dr. Frederick Chilton informs her it s time to go. She is nearly dragged out of the room, but breaks free to run back to Hannibal s cage and retrieve her case files. The visual style up to this point in the scene has been dark, but when Clarice rushes to the cage, there is light illuminating Hannibal. This religion founded in North eastern India is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama known as the Buddha. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha meaning awakened one or the enlightened one . Originating as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman tradition of the day, Buddhismquickly developed in a distinctive direction than Hinduism. The Buddha rejected significant aspects of Hindu philosophy, but also he challenged the authority of the priesthood. He denied the validity of the Vedic scriptures, and rejected the sacrificial cult based on them. Moreover, he opened his movement to members of all castes, denying that a person s spiritual worth is a matter of birth or class. Buddhism analyzes human existence as made up of five aggregates: the material body, the feelings, the perceptions, the predispositions, and the consciousness. A person is only a temporary combination of these aggregates, which are subject to continual change. No one of these aggregates remains the same for any two consecutive moments. Buddhists deny that the five aggregates (our material body, our feelings, our perceptions, our predispositions, and our consciousness), individually or in combination, may be considered a permanent and independently existing self or soul (atman). The application of repeated measures ANOVA calls for the assumption that the dependent variables follow a normal distribution. In the context of this study, normal distribution cannot be demonstrated given the small sample size. However, the present study serves as a pilot study and thus normality will be overlooked in favor of obtaining a sense of the quality of the physiological data. Most people think they know what happened and how it was achieved. However, what most people don t know is that after the plane successfully flew, they kept it a secret for over a year, as explained in Larry E. Tise s book, Conquering the Sky . Throughout said year they perfected their plane, fixing small aspects, but around this time the media had gotten news. To ensure nobody stole their ideas, from then on they tested in secret, flying as little as possible, and the publicity died down. Larry E. Tise writes in his book Conquering the Sky , The Wrights had released no picture nor allowed one to be published of any of their powered airplanes, either on the ground or in flight. They secretly operated in Kitty Hawk, far from watching eyes. Finally in 1908, the brothers were ready to become public with the invention that would change the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Diversity In Downtown Areas The vision for downtown districts will vary from city to city; however, there are a number of policies in place to help preserve and provide affordable housing for low income at risk populations throughout downtown districts. Therefore, the vision for downtown districts should always include some sort of diversity of incomes. Diversity should always be a key component and downtown managers, leaders, and developers are committed to providing and building homes that are reasonably priced. Low income housing is generally defined as housing affordable to households that make below 50 percent of the area median income. In many instances this means that these individuals will receive public subsidies, or either direct payment goes to the project owner through vouchers and certificates.... The report goes on to say that in order to maintain healthy balance within downtown districts, the new low income residents will include teachers, policeman, and fireman, child care workers, medical technicians, elderly, and the disabled, and single parent families. So as I read this information I realize there are several contradictions. In one breath, the downtown district is suitable for certain classes of people which make a clear distinction between what the downtown district considers healthy and unhealthy. As a social worker this raises some red flags for me. This leads me to believe that a certain classes of people are preferred and accepted. They may be low income but they are still preferred because they are considered the working class, and to hear that the concept of affordability shifts as the economy shifts is disheartening. So I can see that the vision will include diversity among incomes; however, truth be told, displacement and gentrification is a lived experience for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influences of the Scientific Revolution on the Enlightenment The Scientific Revolution was a period of rapid scientific advances that occurred in the European nations between the 16th and 17th century. Famed scientists such as Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei questioned the widely held beliefs on astronomy based upon the assertions of the Catholic church. These curiosities lead to an unquenchable desire to explore and observe the occurences of the natural world and slowly lead the scientists away from the authority of the church. More scientists such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes focused their explorations on inductive and deductive reasoning to more efficiently analyze situations. Philosophers during the Enlightenment used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Novum Organum, written by Francis Bacon, focused on how to hypothesize during experiments. Bacon suggested that it is idle to expect any great advancement in science from super inducing and engrafting of new things upon old. Bacon also emphasized the fact that only referencing arguments on past experiments was pointless. By only viewing past experiments, it was impossible for scientists to develop more in their new experiments. The combination of viewing both types of experiments, new and old, was a major part of inductive reasoning. Descartes focused more on deductive reasoning compared to Bacon. Rene aspired to create a new system of truth through deductive reasoning. In his book, I Think, Therefore I Am, he stated that he refused to accept any knowledge unless it was clearly true. Another one of his methods was to isolate each part of everything he examined to avoid bias. Descartes found through his methods that deductive reasoning required only accepting the truth, breaking the problem into parts and analyzing the problem. John Locke addressed inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning with his theories in his publication, Some Thoughts Concerning Education. John Locke claimed that every person was born with a clean slate and their education was vital to their well being. His mission to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
