American psychologist Abraham Maslow was born on
1908 in New York City. He was a son of Jewish
immigrants from Russia who lived in the United States.
The author named his own psychological theory
" The hierarchy of needs". In 1943 in the article:
'' Theory of human motivation '' published in the
scientific journal "Psychological Review".

His work is one of the most important
representatives of the mainstream
humanistic psychology and
Transpersonal Psychology.
His creation of the hierarchy of human
needs, is an inspiration for many
researchers and it is perhaps the most
famous theory concerning this issue.

Interesting is the fact, that in Maslow's
books the hierarchy was not presented
graphically!

According to Maslow, there are five types of needs
(physiological, security, of belonging and love,
recognition and self-actualization), out of which each
has its own hierarchy.Maslow joined the theory of
observations on the innate human curiosity.At the same
time, there appeared other theories about the psychology
of development. Some of them focused on the description
of the stages of development in humans. To describe a
model, on the basis of which the human motivations are
included, Maslow used the following words:
"Physiology", "security", "belonging", "love",
"respect", "self-fulfillment".

• Self-actualization – needs personal fulfillment –
express themselves in pursuit of a man to the
development of their capacities;
• Sesthetic (the need for harmony and beauty);
• Cognitive (needs knowledge, understanding, news);
• Respect and appreciation for recognition and
prestige in their own eyes and in the eyes of other
people;
• The desire for power, feat and freedom;
Needs

The need for respect and recognition from other people,
good social status, fame, dominance, returning the attention
Membership-exist in endeavors to overcome loneliness,
alienation and strangeness, the trend to make a close
intimate relationship, participation in the life of group
Safety – stimulate to action, ensuring the integrity, reveal
when past habits appear to be of little use;
Physiological – when they are not met, dominate over all
other needs, displacing them by the wayside and decide on
the course of human behaviour.

Implementation of necessary need with each successive level
of the hierarchy (the floors of the pyramid) is possible only after
satisfaction of the needs of the lower-level.
In addition, needs on lower levels of pyramid are always a priority
and will "remind" about themselves. Furthermore, not meeting
lower need will stop developing needs from higher levels. We are
only motivated to meet higher need if the lower one is
met.Functioning of a man and his development is the
implementation of successive levels of "pyramid" needs. Maslow
divided them into two groups: deficiency needs and growth
needs.
Needs of growth do not reveal to the people, who's have a
shortage of deficiency needs.
