Cingular Wireless spent billions on advertising to introduce its new brand and differentiate itself from competitors in the telecommunications industry. This included creating an animated orange blob mascot named "Jack" to represent the company's message of "self-expression." Despite some criticism, Cingular believed Jack was successful in helping the brand stand out. The large advertising budgets of telecom companies reflect the competitiveness of attracting new customers in an evolving market.
This document summarizes various advertising stunts and campaigns from 2010. It includes examples such as:

- A campaign for Save the Children Sweden comparing the "lottery of life" between countries like Sierra Leone and Sweden.
- An anti-drinking and driving campaign in Israel that used 80 crashed cars to form a giant roadside bottle sculpture.
- The Vancouver Aquarium installing ocean life sculptures to raise awareness for a shoreline cleanup event.
Immersive Technology Strategies Feb 2013 e newsletterDavid Wortley
This newsletter provides information on upcoming events related to immersive technology and serious games, including a gamification challenge and workshops on using games and immersive technologies in areas like culture, health, communities, and creative works. It announces a serious games festival at De Montfort University from February 25-28 that offers free registration and discusses workshops those days on various applications of immersive technology.
The document provides an overview of advertising and marketing opportunities for brands using the iPad and other tablet devices. Some of the key points covered include:
- Display advertising is seen as the biggest opportunity for advertisers on tablets due to the ability to deliver powerful brand messages directly into consumers' hands. Many advertisers are creating interactive and animated ads that take advantage of the touchscreen.
- Search, email, social media, video, websites and apps all provide similar marketing opportunities on tablets as they do online and on smartphones. This allows brands to extend existing campaigns.
- Specific opportunities mentioned include interactive display ads within magazine and newspaper apps, video ads around online video content, branded apps, search engine marketing, email
Immersive Technologies and GIS -Integrating the physical and virtualDavid Wortley
Immersive technologies like video games, virtual worlds, and social networks are driving innovation by engaging users and requiring lower levels of skill to access information. These technologies are bringing the physical and virtual worlds closer together by embedding intelligence into devices and applications. As examples, cars now have navigation systems that require little driver knowledge, and virtual worlds allow users to freely navigate simulated environments. Personalization is also increasing as technologies recognize individual users and tailor interfaces to their preferences. This integration of real and virtual could eventually result in autonomous virtual representations of people interacting in virtual spaces.

Bringing brands & stories to life through transmedia creativityErica Hargreave
Transmedia can take many different forms and can require highly varying budgets, some of which are unattainable to smaller brands and many creative projects. In this session, we will be exploring some grassroots transmedia initiatives for brand and storytelling properties, what we have learnt from them and what has made them successful. Our goal is to explore how we can all build digital and transmedia elements into our properties, no matter the budget that we are working with, by looking for creative solutions, learning to recognize the pitfalls, identifying which areas to place value, and understanding how to find and build audience. We will explore questions like, where to start, what to consider, and what makes one project successful in the digital / transmedia space where another fails (no matter the budget)?
Making digital 'real' by reaching outside devicesRPM
This document discusses making digital interactions more connected to the real world. It suggests using technologies like NFC and Bluetooth to create "just-in-time interactions" between devices and real-world objects. This could allow exploring venues through their history, getting recommendations based on tastes, or getting help building outfits. The panelists believe interacting both digitally and physically will create richer experiences than digital-only interactions and encourage looking up from screens to engage with the world.

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
