MarriageMarriage
• It admits a man and a woman to a family
life to live in an intimate, personal
relationship as a husband and wife whose
primary purpose is to rear child.
• It is a special contract of permanent
union between a man and a woman. (New
Family Code of the Philippines)

Two Aspects:
1.Legal point of view- states that marriage
is a contract.
2.Religious point of view- states that
marriage is a sacrament.
Types of MarriageTypes of Marriage
1. Monogamy- Marriage between one man and
one woman.
2. Polygamy or plural marriages- refers to the
marriage of more than one mate at a given
time. It has three forms.

• Polygyny- one husband and two more wives.
• Polyandry- one wife and two or more
husbands.
• Group Marriage- marriage of several man to
several women.

• Essential Requisites for Marriage( The Family
Code of the Philippines Art 2. )
1.Legal capacity of the contracting parties (18
years or upwards), who must be a male and a
female.
2.With the consent of both parties parents.
3.A valid marriage license.

on Marriageon Marriage
• Annulment of Marriage. Is a process by
which the marriage is pronounced null and
void. It means that the marriage is not
existing at all due to some legal
interpretations. Both parties have the right
to remarry.

• Legal Separation. A process granted by the
court of law allowing the married couple to
separate from “bed and board”. But their
marriage is still existing and therefore no one is
allowed to remarry.
• Divorce. A complete dissolution of marriage. It
allows the two parties to enter in another
matrimonial contract.
