The Overall Purpose Of This Brief Paper Is To Characterize
The overall purpose of this brief paper is to characterize the main concepts, main techniques, and
any current research that supports contextual therapy in relation to contextual theory. While the
purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories not addressed in class
sessions, contextual therapy (which has also been referred to as contextual family therapyin prior
literature) is not per se a theory as much as it is a method of therapy based on Ivan Boszormenyi
Nagy s contextual theory. In his determination that there is more to understanding an individual s
challenges in relation to others, Boszormenyi Nagy designed contextual therapy to draw attention
to his empirically based findings from over 40 years of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excluding such information could lead to misrepresenting the factors by which the client
experiences the world and bankrupt the influence of culture on development. Boszormenyi Nagy
stretches facts to include those details about world views that are a product of our own created
reality that is culminated by choice and agency. While a child certainly does not have a choice into
what family they are born into, the parents do have a choice into how they will interact with each
other around that child, such that, inconsistencies or neglect of that healthy relationship could
create for the child a fact that unhealthy conflict is normal or that they must choose sides of
affection (Goldenthal, 2005). Since there is an underlying foundation of psychotherapy present,
contextual therapy accounts for facts that may be present that the client may not be able to bring to
their conscience or that they may be unwilling to acknowledge that were out of their control, but
nevertheless, still occurred (Ruzgyte, 2011).
Psychology. The functioning of the person within was also heavily regarded by Boszormenyi Nagy,
such that his reflections from psychoanalytical theories would illuminate the need to connect the
parts of the individual psyche: cognitive abilities; emotional functioning; instinctual drives; internal
conflicts; moral and intellectual development; and concepts of object relations theory with the other

Foundations of Psychology
Foundations of Psychology
Psychology is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes
and behavior. There is some tension between scientific psychology (with its program of empirical
research) and applied psychology (dealing with a number of areas). Psychologists attempt to explain
the mind and brain in the context of real life. In contrast neurologists utilize a physiological
approach. Psychologists study such phenomena as perception, cognition, emotion, personality,
behavior, and interpersonal relationships. Psychology also refers to the application of such
knowledge to various spheres of human activity including issues related to daily life e.g. family,
education, and work and the treatment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The school of thought known as structuralism was initiated by Edward Titchener, one of Wundt s
students. This school of thought was called structuralism because of Titchener s interest in the
structural make up of consciousness. It was Ticthener s hope to devise a table of the levels, or
elements of human consciousness using Wundt s introspection idea. Ticthener viewed psychology
scientifically. He believed that the only way to understand psychology was through
experimentation. This eventually led to the idea that sensation and feelings were unscientific
because it could not be measured by anyone but the person experiencing it. The second school of
thought that was popular in psychology s beginning was known as functionalism. This school of
though focused on the role psychological processes have on helping people adapt to their
surroundings. Functionalists believe that consciousness exists because it serves a function
(Kowalski Westen, 2005). William James, one of the founders of functionalism, set out to explain
why we think the way that we do. These two schools of thought branch out even further to offer
assumptions or perspectives on these theories. Psychodynamic, behaviorist, cognitive, and
evolutionary perspectives help to expand psychological thinking and guide psychological studied.
Psychodynamic and behaviorist perspectives will be covered since the last two are more recent
perspectives. Sigmund Freud emphasis was on psychodynamics. His

The Adopt-A-Rock Project
THE GAME OF STONES: KYANITE QUARTZITE
ABSTRACT
The main objective of this Adopt A Rock project is to analyze and categorize thin section #86 as
well as educate the reader about kyanite quartzite and its role on Earth. To identify the #86 thin
section: First, using individual mineral characteristics and descriptions under a petrologic
microscope, followed by hand sample diagnostics. Metamorphic rocks are significant pieces in the
Earth s geochronology. As they develop from the transformation of existing rocktypes, in a process
called metamorphism, which means, change in form . Metamorphic rocks are important since they
make up a large part of the Earth s crust. Among these rocks is kyanite quartzite. A perfect example

A popular country that contains kyanite quartzites is Norway (MГјller, et al, 2007). Norwegian

2007). Kyanite quartzites are rare fine grained quartzites with 70% to 85% mode of quartz and less
than 15% mode kyanite (Al2SiO5) which occur in Proterozoic supracrustal rock units (MГјller, et
al, 2007). Kyanite quartzites appear in four less populated cities in Norway: SolГёr, Surnadalen,
Nasafjellet and Skjome (MГјller, et al, 2007). Kyanite Quartzite can also be found in the
Southeastern part of the United States. The largest kyanite mine on Earth is hosted at Willis
Mountain in the Piedmont Province of Virginia, and several smaller bodies occur through this
region (Owens and Pasek, 2009). Kyanite quartz deposits are the biggest and most plentiful of the
group of high alumina quartzose deposits in the Southeast (Espenshade and Potter, 1960). The
primary kyanite deposits in the Farmville district are the deposits of kyanite quartzite at Willis
Mountain and Woods Mountain in Buckingham County, at Leigh and Baker Mountains in Prince
Edward County (Espenshade and Potter, 1960).
As well as being an exquisite metamorphic rock, Kyanite Quartzites do have a particular economic
value to the world also (MГјller, et al, 2007). Low concentrations of trace elements in quartz,
quartz is almost free of fluid inclusions, size and exposure of

Blackberry-Picking By Heaney
In the poem, Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney describes the experience of picking
blackberries. Although, Heaney does not only convey just a literal description of picking
blackberries, but also a deeper understanding of the experience. The deeper message would be that
even the best things in life can not be preserved. Through diction, similes, and oxymorons, Jeaney
conveys the message and describes the experience. Heaney uses strong diction to describe the taste
of the blackberries being picked. For example, You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet.
Instead of saying the outside of the blackberry or skin, he uses flesh. Flesh is human skin, with
muscles, bones, and blood behind it. He uses flesh: because as he bit into the

Essay Affirmative Action
Affirmative action works. When these policies received government support, vast numbers of
people of color, white women and men have gained access they would not otherwise have had.
These gains have led to very real changes. Affirmative action programs have not eliminated racism,
nor have they always been implemented without problems. However, there would be no struggle to
roll back the gains achieved if affirmative actionpolicies were ineffective. The implementation of
affirmative action was America s first honest attempt at solving a problem, it had previously chosen
to ignore. In a variety of areas, from the quality of health care to the rate of employment, blacks still
remain far behind whites.

Congress also passed a number of civil rights laws barring discrimination against blacks in hotels,
theaters, and other places. However, the South reacted by passing the Black Codes, which
severely limited the rights of the newly freed slaves, preventing them in most states from testifying
in courts against whites, limiting their opportunities to find work, and generally assigning them to
the status of second or third class citizen. White vigilante groups like the Klu Klux Klan began to
appear, by murdering and terrorizing blacks who tried to exercise their new rights. Legal ways
were also found for circumventing the new laws; these included grandfather clauses , poll taxes,
white only primary elections, and constant social discrimination against and intimidation of blacks,
who were excluded form education and from any job except the most menial. Affirmative action
has had its greatest amount of success in city, state, and government jobs. Since the 1960s the area
of law enforcement witnessed the greatest increase in minority applicants, and in jobs offered to
minorities. This should be viewed as an extremely positive thing, because prior to affirmative action

Coca Cola is a much better balance sheet than Pepsico, even managing to have more cash on hand
than debt during much of this time frame (SeekingAlpha.com, 2012).
After comparing the two it is companies, I would recommend that Coca Cola is the better pick as
far as who to invest in if given the opportunity to invest in one or the other. Through analyzing the
many ratios and utilizing the components to accurately rationalize the status of the financial
stability of the two companies Coca Cola has proved to have a higher financial accountability.
There are many factors that brought me to this conclusion. Just look at the statements you can see
that Pepsi Co. has more liabilities than Coca Cola and that would generally be the case since Pepsi
Co. has monies invested in other products and Cola does not have any other involvements in other
products.

Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional:
How the Supreme Court s Ruling on DOMA Will Affect Same Sex Taxpayers
Melissa Williams
Troy University
November 20, 2014
Author s Note
This paper was prepared for Federal Tax Research 6684T, taught by Dr. Kaye Sheridan.
Abstract
On June 26, 2013, The United States Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA), enabling same sex couples legally married under state law to be
recognized for the purpose and benefit of federal law. Section 3 of DOMA previously defined
marriage as the legal union of two persons of the opposite sex. This definition was challenged in
several court cases for violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The
Supreme Court ruled in favor of Edith Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, declaring DOMA Section 3
unconstitutional and allowing same sex couples to be recognized as married for federal purposes.
This opens up several opportunities within federal income tax and estate and gift tax. Some of these
benefits include higher standard deductions and gain exclusion; opportunity to lower tax bracket
through combining incomes; and entitlement to the marital deduction, gift splitting, and portability
of DSUE. Marriage also results in tax disadvantages such as the marriage penalty, joint and several
liability, and refund offsetting. Taxpayers and tax preparers should be aware of the new planning
opportunities available to married same sex couples,

The Teachings Of Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama ( The Buddha...
Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Jesus Christ were extremely influential
leaders and were all the keys to establishing three of the major religions today; Islam, Buddhism
and Christianity. These religions are currently the largest religions in the world and influence
billions of people every day. All three of these men have shaped the course of history and
redefined the destiny of mankind. They all lived very interesting lives and preached different
lessons to their followers. I would like to start this essay by first looking into the history of each of
these men and later comparing and contrasting the way they lived their lives as well as their
teachings.
Muhammad was born in the year 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca, located now in what is known as
Saudi Arabia. His father, Abdullah died before he was born and his mother, Amina passed away
when Muhammad was around five or six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather,
Abdul Muttalib, who treated him with the utmost love. Two years passed before his grandfather
also passed away and Muhammad was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib and his wife, Fatima.
They treated him just as well if not better than their own children. The love they had for the young
boy was matched by no one.
As Muhammad got older, he became known as a very trust worthy, noble and kind man. When
Muhammad was twenty five years old, he became a trading agent for a wealthy, noble lady by the
name of Khadija. Khadija was so

Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) versus Serial Analysis of...
Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) versus Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE)
INTRODUCTION Expressed sequence tag or also known as EST are 200 to 800 unedited
nucleotide bases in length, and randomly selected single pass sequence reads which are derived
from the cDNA libraries while serial analysis of gene expression or SAGE have more shorter
sequence tags with only 10 to 20 base pairs. But even it is short it still have enough information
to uniquely identify a transcript, especially if it is obtained from a unique position in each of the
transcripts. Serial analysis of gene expression is a method or technique designed to gain a direct
and quantitative measure of overall gene expression pattern. It is basically a sequence based ...

ETS also can determine definitively the number of copies of each transcript per cell and highlight
any differential gene expression. EST includes an inefficient sequencing step, in which one
sequencing process yields only one cDNA sequence. Although the more recent methods of
hybridization based analyses (DNA microarray) using immobilized cDNAs (Schena et al., 1995)
or oligonucleotides (Lockhart et al., 1996) can potentially examine the expression patterns of a
relatively large number of genes, the method can only examine expressed sequences that have
already been identified. In contrast, the SAGE method allows for a quantitative and simultaneous
analysis of a large number of transcripts in any particular cells or tissues, without prior knowledge
of the genes (Velculescu et al., 1995).
METHODOLOGY The SAGE method is based on the isolation of unique sequence tags from
individual mRNAs and concatenation of tags serially into long DNA molecules for lump sum
sequencing. It can be applied to the studies exploring virtually any kinds of biological phenomena
in which the changes in cellular transcription are responsible. SAGE is based mainly on three
principles, firstly, a short sequence tags, 10 to 15 base pairs contains sufficient information to
uniquely identify a transcript provided that the tag is obtained from a unique position within each
transcript to allow the efficient sequencing analysis. Secondly

March 22,2017 Viral Manipulation of Cell Death (Zakeri s Cell Death Lab) The cells of a
multicellular organism are members of a highly organized community. The number of cells in this
community is regulated, not by controlling the rate of cell division, but also by controlling the rate
of cell death. If cells are no longer needed, they commit suicide by activating an intracellular death
program. This process is therefore called programmed cell death, although it is more commonly
called apoptosis. Cell death plays a role in development and the process is called, morphogenesis,

Mechanisms of dengue virus induces cell death by taking control of the machinery of the cell. It is
evident that dengue (DEN) viruses can trigger the host cell to undergo apoptosis in a cell dependent
manner. Virally induced apoptosis contributes directly to the cytopathogenic effects of DEN virus
in cultured cells. The induction of apoptosis involves the activation of intracellular signaling
systems. The cellular factors that regulate cell death can adjust the outcome of DEN virus infection
in cultured cells. Apoptosis inhibitors delay DEN virus induced apoptosis, thereby providing a
suitable environment for the virus. During DEN virus infection, cell death is also regulated by the

How Has Nursing Changed Essay
Nursing today is at the heart of healthcare provision in the United Kingdom, and nurses are the
largest group of clinical employees in the NHS (The Royal Marsden, 2011). This essay will
illustrate a discussion on how nursing has changed in the past twenty or so years with regards to
how the public health needs have changed and in particular, at how the role of the nursehas adapted
to ensure that high quality care is provided. Fluctuating demographics and an upsurge in life
expectancy has had increased demand on the NHS services, which in turn has resulted in
variations in the roles of healthcare professionals. In particular this, and a change in education, has
led to new and more complex roles for nurses who are now taking on more responsibility... Show

When the Labour government came into power in 1997 they initiated many policies which in
result has helped nursing develop and grow in professionalism, skills and leadership (Booker,
2010) .
Nurse education was a comparative new arrival to higher education. Until the early 1990s the larger
part of student nurses embarked on a hospital based apprentice style course of nursing education
(Willis Commission Report, 2012). Project 2000 seen that nurse education was transformed and the

this course were supernumerary (Kozier, 2012).
In 1999 the UKCC set up a Commission for Nursing and Midwifery Education, which suggested
that more emphasis should be placed on the development of competency in clinical skills within
pre registration nursing courses. Following this a new curriculum was developed, known as
Fitness for Practice. This new curriculum consisted of a one year Common Foundation Programme
followed by a two year Branch Programme (Kozier 2012). According to the Fundamentals of

Pros And Cons Of Building A Border Wall
Should the United States build a border wall? Many will procrastinate about this but in the end
there will be an outcome with what will happen as far as building a border wall. There are many
Pros and Cons to this single objective. Starting off with a Pro, Many say this is a racist act or a
sign of weakness coming from our President Donald Trump. But in some cases this is an essential
thing for the United Statesto do. This walltoo many is wrong to do because our media has a big
head on racial point along society today. In the long run a wall could be really beneficial as a
commodity for the security of our great nation.
Jeff Corwin stated that If this border wall actually happens, it will be an environmental
catastrophe. Essentially, what it s doing is cutting through nature s bridge, which connects Central
America to North America and South America. Which in many cases this can be supported but
then again many people work very hard to become a citizen in the United States for many to
come across the border to get here illegally and to most this is unfair. To make another main
statement given the rising global instability in North Korea and the Middle East with a strong and
supportive border it would be harder for terrorist to get their hands on biological, chemical or
radiological weapons. With an insecure border it makes it easier for them to bring them into the
United States and launch a devastating attack on the United States.

Liner Notes: The liner notes provide detail on the style Joe uses. It says how he uses harsh tones
and blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these
things added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So
Near, So Far is a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the
shadow of people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his
records stood with the jazz world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that
Joe Henderson had his own style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked
for/with. These notes can be improved by providing more information on a visual aspect.

Dbq New Imperialism Essay
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the new imperialism in europe increased. The
new imperialism characterizes a period of colonial expansion by european powers, the united states
and japan. Europeans began colonizing africa and asia and used military force to take over local
governments which led to the new imperialism. The new imperialism was led by many reasons
such as economics, politics, and social forces. Economics had a important role to the new
imperialism. There were many economic factors that affected this period. An economic factor was
having colonies which made it easier for countries to protect their merchant marine and their world
trade. As american senator A.J beveridge (document 2) stated the trading of the world must and
shall be ours... we will establish trading posts throughout the world as disturbing points for
american products. We will cover the ocean with our merchant marines. We will build a navy to the

wants to do in life which causes success for that individual. He discusses how the only person
one needs to listen to in life is oneself and that no other person should influence one s life. I
believe there are people in this world that can have a negative influence on one s life, but also
people that can have a positive influence. For example, in basketballmy positive influences
(parents, teammates, and coaches) help me to succeed in a team sport. Emerson begins his
article by talking about the importance of self reliance. He defines self reliance as thinking for
oneself and not letting anyone else influence one in any way, shape, or form. As a human being
this may be one of the most difficult tasks. Emerson explains that being self reliant can be
difficult especially for adults because they are too worried about their reputations and how
others will look upon them. Emerson also says, Trust thyself (2). Emerson believes that one
should go with his or her gut in everything she or he does. Even if what she or he wants to do
goes against the thoughts of others she or he still needs to pursue his or her dreams. The last thing
Emerson wants people to do is be embarrassed of what others will think of themselves. People need
to throw away others thoughts and opinions and follow one s own.
Emerson also believes that one can be great through being self reliant. He says, To be great is to
be misunderstood (7). This tells one that if others seem to be judging or confused on what one is
doing with his or her life, one should ignore the others, and continue to follow what she or he
believes. Emerson explains that if one is misunderstood by others that she or he is on the path to
success. For example, when Jesus followers were

Malnutrition And Its Impact On Health And Social Care
Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
Undernutrition is an outcome of insufficient quantity and quality of food and frequent episodes of
infectious diseases.
Globally, 162 million under five year olds are stunted and 56 percent of all stunted children live in
Asia and 36% in Africa while 99 million under five year olds are underweight and 67 percent of all
underweight children live in Asia and 29% in Africa. Wasting stands at 51 million under five year
olds are wasted and 17 million were severely wasted and approximately 71 percent of all severely
wasted children lived in Asia and 28 percent in Africa (WHO, 2006).
Malnutrition is still a problem in many developing countries particularly in Africa. It is estimated

Sidney Crosby the Next Great One
Sidney Crosby the Next Great One Sidney is Crosby is a phenomenal hockey player currently
playing in the NHL. Many people debate on him being the next Great One, due to multiple aspects
of his talent. Sidney
Crosby, being the talented player he is, many people compare him to Wayne Gretzky who is the
best known hockey player in history. Since hockey has evolved from when Wayne Gretzky was on
top, it makes it difficult to compare him to Sidney Crosby. But, since the evolution of hockey has
occurred, this means that Sidney Crosby is better overall, speed wise, acceleration, agility, and
endurance. Since Crosby has entered the NHL in the 2005 06 Season, he has managed to score 266
goals, 477 assists, for a combined total of 743 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

being drafted 1st overall in the
2005 NHL Entry Draft (Shattuk Saint Mary s NHL Draft Picks). With Crosby becoming the
greatest hockey player in the world, he has been able to achieve many prestigious awards.
Including the greatest award one is able to attain in hockey,
Lord Stanley s Cup, in the 2008 09 Season. Crosby was then the youngest captain to ever win the
Stanley Cup in NHL history. Other great achievement s Crosby has attained is the Art Ross
trophy, which is awarded to the player with the most scoring points in a season. Another award
he won that same season, in the 2006 07 season, was the Hart Trophy (Fitzpatrick). The final and
most likely greatest achievement Crosby has made, is being the second youngest captain in
NHL history. He did hold the reign of youngest Captain for 6 years until, Gabriel Landeskog was
named captain for the Colorado Avalanche. Landeskog was only 11 days younger than Crosby
when named, but he still took the title of youngest captain in NHL history (Sadowski). These
achievements have supported reasons why Crosby is better than Gretzky. With all the evidence
supporting Crosby s case proves that Crosby is overall a better and a stronger player than
Gretzky. Since this is accurate and supported through evidence, Crosby can now be referred to the
Great One. Since Crosby is still young he is

Tony Smith Die Analysis
Die, made in 1968, is a minimalist sculptural artwork by renowned American artist Tony Smith.
Smith had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made a six inch cardboard
model, but he did not have Die fabricated until 1968. The final format of Die is a six foot cube of
quarter inch hot rolled steel that is held together by internal steel bracing. To have it created,
Smith worked with the Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its
rusty, industrial external appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire much of
his later work. During exhibitions, the 500 pound steel Die sits on the floor, inviting patrons to
walk around it and view it from one or more sides at a time. As Smith explained,

Hope In Elie Wiesel s Night
This section of the book proved to be one of the most suspenseful and thrilling parts of Nyiszli s
nightmare. I didn t expect him to survive, but at the same time, how would he write this book? I
worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come
home without his wife or child. Without any money, he would not be able to afford anything back
at home. With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come
back to. Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All
in all, I enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he
would spend the rest of his days and sadness, but with hope, miracles can happen.
I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold
weather, the unrelenting march, and the little food and sleep, he able to defy all odds and survive.
Unfortunately, his friends would all perish after the madness of the crematoriums and the forced

Allusion In Infinite Jest
In his celebrated 1,079 page novel set at a tennis academy and addiction recovery house, David
Foster Wallace borrows a phrase from Shakespeare s Hamlet for the title, Infinite Jest. The
allusion is grounded in the vital plot device also named Infinite Jest, a necromantic film that
engrosses the viewer to the point of catatonia and eventually death. The filmmaker is the character
James O. Incandenza, who sought to produce a film so radically entertaining that it would
affectively tear his son Hal from anhedonia, a sarcastic and apathetic state of being that
characterized, for Wallace, American culture at the time. As it becomes clear very early on in
Infinite Jest, James is dead for the majority of the plot, appearing as a ghost late in the... Show more

Catherine Nichols points this out, calling James the infinite jester of the novel (11). In view of
his connection to Yorick, the allusion to the graveyard scene in Hamlet is twice made explicit:
once near the beginning and once toward the end of Infinite Jest; Hal shares a dream with the
novel s other protagonist, whereby the two dig up James head (16 17; 934). Of course, the
graveyard dream recalls the grave scene from Hamlet, where the titular character discovers that
the skull uncovered by the gravediggers is that of his childhood jester Yorick, whom he
describes as a fellow of infinite jest (5.1.191 2). As Indira Ghose suggests, the infinite in this line
is enclosed within Hamlet s recollection of the jester, so the infinity is reduced to the confines
of a single character s memory and is recalled only upon his chance encounter with the skull; the
infinite is juxtaposed with the image of the empty skull he holds up to the audience, so the
infinite as a concept is exposed as a huge joke (1015). Aside from James The Joke, his film
Infinite Jest itself functions as a jest: the overt impossibility of a film engaging a viewer to the
point to death, the hyperbolic mother son theme parodying psychoanalytic theory, and, perhaps
most poignantly, the glaring absence of the infinite. In Hal s dream, he digs up his father s head
in order to find, as it is elsewhere inferred, the master copy of the film. However, as the reader
and Hal are aware, James head was destroyed, thus the film no longer exists. This absence recalls
the gaping emptiness of the jester s skull as Hamlet holds it up to the audience. In both cases, the
infinite itself becomes the joke, in the sense that the yawning absence belies the immutable nature
of infinity. Likewise, Wallace s

The Values Of The Indigenous Village Otavalo
The indigenous village Otavalo, located in Ecuador, is known for the beauty of its people and
surroundings. Situated in the highlands of the Andes mountains, it is surrounded by volcanoes,
and known for its famous market. A distinct difference from the United States is how people earn
money. Many people in the village make sweaters, blouses, and other traditional wear. They sell
their merchandise in the huge market and as a result, most people in the village are well off. They
also have more free time on their hands to be with family and friends unlike most of those who
work in the U.S.
In this small village, everybody knows everybody. OtaveleГ±os (indigenous group) have managed
to hold on to centuries old traditions without adopting a quick get dressed, here comes the tourists.
The OtaveleГ±os are proud of their culture and aren t afraid to show that. Women are seen wearing
embroidered clothing, while the norm for men are typical trousers, and a t shirt. On formal
occasions, men wear all white with a sombrero. The language that OtaveleГ±os usually use is
Spanish, but the indigenous group often uses their indigenous language Kichwa. An important
value that lies within their culture ties to their hair. In their culture, hair is sacred to them and is
typically grown out and braided. Unfortunately, social media pressures many men to cut their hair
to fit in, so when their hair grows to about twelve or thirteen inches they cut their hair off and repeat.

Research Paper On Digestion
Digestion: From beginning to end
Digestion, how you get your energy and nutrients, seems simple. However, it is actually a complex
process involving three organ systems and many stages.
When food is put in the mouth, the teeth grind it up into a paste and the amylase in the saliva
begins to break down the carbohydrates. Swallowing takes the food into the oesophagus and by
peristalsis moves it into the stomach. In the stomach, strong hydrochloric acid breaks down
complex proteins over a period of a few hours. The resulting mixture then moves into the small
intestine, the start of which is called the duodenum. Here, bile from the liver and enzymes from the
pancreas mix into the food. As the mixture moves down the small intestine, the enzymes ... Show

However, respiration requires two ingredients glucose and oxygen. The glucose is obtained from
carbohydrates, but the oxygen must be taken from the air. The diaphragm contracts, expanding the
lung cavity and sucking in air through the mouth and nose. It passes through the trachea, splits into
two when it meets the bronchi and splits many more times through the bronchioles and into the
alveoli.
The blood passes through the vena cava and into the right side of the heart, where the valves
accelerate it towards the lungs through the pulmonary artery. It travels into capillaries and passes
by the alveoli, where gas exchange occurs. Oxygen in the alveoli is taken by the red blood cells
and carbon dioxide from the plasma is passed into the alveoli. The newly oxygenated blood travels
through the pulmonary vein and back into the theart, this time the left side of it. The blood gets

Essay on Satan, the Core of MiltonВґs Paradise Lost
The great debate whether Satan is the hero of Milton s Epic Poem, Paradise Lost, has been
speculated for hundreds of years. Milton, a writer devoted to theology and the appraisal of God,
may not have intended for his portrayal of Satan to be marked as heroic. Yet, this argument is
valid and shares just how remarkable the study of literature can be. Milton wrote his tale of the
fall of man in the 1674. His masterpiece is an example of how ideas of a society change with time.
This is because it wasn t until the 1800 s during the Romantic era, that people no longer saw the
heroof literary works as perfect in every way. It started to become more popular to develop the
flawed character similar to the ones written in the classics. A literary... Show more content on

Satan was unwilling to back down, no matter how great God s power. This mission stands out as
an element of the epic hero. In almost all epics written the hero has to stifle past guarded
boundaries in order to complete goals. Satan s bravery in trying to learn answers concerning his
existence in heaven and his damnation to Hell is noble. Determination to derive truth is an
admirable quality. Though his bitterness creates negative characteristics, his core purpose is
not entirely blasphemous. He considers all that is placed before him and says in book 1, Better
to reign in hell than serve in heaven (263). He knows that Hell is a place of doom and torture,
but he is committed to living there with dignity and hopes to eventually rise above the creator
and gain back what he feels he is entitled to as a living being. This acceptance of his conditions
and determination to overcome makes him the underdog that an audience cannot help but root
for. Everyone knows what it s like to be in dark place with no visible escape. People want to be
able to relate to a character that remains hopeful. In this sense Satan seems very heroic and critics
have even gone as far as interpreting God as the villain. An article, which questions Satan s role in,

Electroconvulsive Theraphy Should Be Used in Psychiatric...
ECT Should Be Used in Psychiatric Treatment
In contemporary psychiatry worldwide, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to be useful.
However, researchers, the general public and practitioners have not yet understood this therapy.
Controversies continue to surround the application of this therapy, especially the long term
consequences of its legality and use in the management of some severe major depression,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mental illness. Particularly, a few mental health service users
report adverse effects that are associated with ECT for instance, severe memory loss. Some
researchers claim that the Electroconvulsive therapy is the utmost controversial treatment in the
field of psychiatry. Arguably, ECT should be used in physiatrist treatment.
Randomized Controlled Trial (RCTs) demonstrates that the use of ECT is effectual when treating
major depression. However, it quickly resolves all mental problems. When controlled in a setting
that is safe, the treatment becomes comfortable. Some researchers argue that Genuine ECT is more
effective in treating acute treatment caused by depression rather than sham ECT. In addition, ECT
is also more effective in comparison with standard antidepressant medication treatment (Sienaert 8).
Clinical trials that compare ECT with optimal pharmacotherapy are yet to be conducted. There is no
evidence that demonstrates the ECT effectiveness in the treatment of Schizophrenia. Genuine ECT

The scene of the snowman that Jem and Scout built represents the Plantation South and how the

Obesity Epidemic Summary

(2015), suggests that while it s correct to suggest that personal choices can be blamed for the
obesity health crisis, the health care system in the United States also has to shoulder some of the
blame. Lee (2015) theorizes that failed financial incentives, lack of knowledge and training in
medical education and limitations of the physicians role regarding infrastructure and other policy

impacting the nation. Obesity in America has increased over 20% in the last 35 years and is

Summary Of Witchcraft Prosecutions And The Decline Of Magic
Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic JSTOR Article Review
Before the 1500s, prosecution of witches was rare. Trials were conducted against those who were
seen as suspects of practicing harmful magic and occasional mass trials (Bever, 2009, p. 263).
These accusations were often made by children and that of their imagination. The decline; however,
occurred not through the prosecutions but through its suppressing roles and the overall decline in
witch beliefs (Bever, 2009, p. 285). The title of the article is WitchcraftProsecutions and the
Decline of Magic and it is written by Edward Bever. Bever is the Associate Professor of History,
SUNY College at Old Westbury. The author s purpose in writing this article was to inform the
reader of the rise and decline of witch prosecutions, along with their lasting effects on the society.
The author s central argument is that historians do not usually focus on ... Show more content on

Bever clarifies why he believes historians often focus only on the rise of witchcraft rather than
their decline. He believes the reason this occurs is because, historians assume their defeat
seemed self evident (Bever, 2009, p. 264). The author explains how the rise of witches occurred,
chain reaction trials started with a few stereotyped suspects but gradually widened to include
previously unsuspected commoners and eventually friends (Bever, 2009, p. 272). Bever also
gives discusses of how witchcraft came to affect the society and how it became an integral part of
late medieval culture and society (Bever, 2009, p. 288). The work relates more specifically to the
field of the first centuries of colonization because, although some ideas presented in this article can
be inferred, most are not that of the general

Religion In Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry remains a
mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more
intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew
how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of
concepts such as religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific
thesis on her views is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems,
readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the
beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or... Show more content on

Similar ambivalent themes are seen in Dickinson s views of death. Death is primarily seen in a
negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly buzz when I died When
Dickinson starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of control from the narrator. The narrator
is ready for death and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion
of me be/ Assignable and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a
Fly and this fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and
this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem
almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a
look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no
faking death and that s what they most appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone
associated with death and upon reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as
calm and genuine.
Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than
actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and intoxicating to frightening and
threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of light , she carries a holy and amazed mood
throughout it. Using words like Heavenly and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The
narrator is amazed at the

Review Of Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight

Prompt #3 Scene analysis
I chose to analyze The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. My scene begins at
00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it contains interesting points
that I have recognized, as the villain shows different characteristics, using aspects such as camera
angles. In this analysis, I will be looking at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera
and how each of these views influences the audience.
The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building, from ziplining,
on the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the bank. The scene starts, the
camera zooms up onto a building. The window is then broken and the camera switches showing a
masked man shooting a zip line across from the building to another building. The clowned mask is
being used to hide their faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a
heist film. The sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the
impression that this is a heist film. The next shot shows a man standing at the corner of the street
holding a clown mask in his hand and a bag. The camera slowly zooms up to the mask leading the
audience to believe that they may see the identity of the person holding it. This man is unlike the
others characters he is not wearing his mask and this builds pressure, but this up tempo

Internet and the Music Industry
Internet and the Music Industry Cassandra Utz University of Phoenix
In our society today, there is a growing number of consumers using the Internet as a main source
for music. The smaller music companies are having to come up with new and different ways to
use the Internet to increase their sales. The music companies can drive there sales because so

The bigger companies like Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Song BMG Music

caught on, all of the music companies can promote everyone. Even the little companies can do
this. Hopefully, the music industry will look at this as a blessing in disguise for the underground
labels. Looking at this in the short term of things, downloading music could hurt the music
industry and their profits. However, later down the line, it will eventually benefit them. In a study
done by Ipsos Reid, it shows that 81% of the public that download music, often spend at least the
same on records or even more than they did before downloading music from the Internet. The
record industry must concentrate on offering value to the user and adapt to the publics needs
(Vives, 2004). The music industry should try to realize that the ideas behind free downloads can
benefit them. They should do what they can to market more from it, rather than turning their noses
up at the technology behind it. They should realize that they waste more money on fighting the
sites that offer free downloads and lobbing Congress to stop the downloading, they should build a
system in which all music is readily available free. Making sites with easy to follow links to other
online music store so that the people can buy music from the same place that they listen to it.

The term abortion has no statutory definition. However, legal dictionaries have defined the term.
Abortion is defined as the artificial induced termination of a pregnancy for the purpose of
destroying an embryo or fetus.
The legality of abortion has been provided for in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Article 26(4) of
the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health
professional, there is need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of the mother is in danger

David Hume and Future Occurrences Essay
David Hume, in An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, discusses how we cannot predict
the future. Even though our experiences and our reasoning tell us that objects act in a predictable
way, we still cannot prove how objects will act in the future based upon previous interactions.
After biting into a piece of pizza we expect an enjoyable taste. This enjoyable taste is expected
because our past experiences have proven this to us. Even though we think we can predict that the
pizza will act the same as our previous experiences, it may just blowup upon biting. Hume explains
that there is no way to predict the future based on our previous experiences and reasoning and I
will explain the logic he uses to prove this.
To start, Hume makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a matter of fact is that my name is Josh Peete. I could have been named
something else like John Doe and I still would be the same object. The contrary of every matter
of fact is still possible, because it can never imply a contradiction and is conceived by the mind
with the same facility and distinctness, as if ever so conformable to reality. (500) So the opposite of
a matter of fact can be true. The piece of pizza that I bite into could explode in my face even
though I had never experienced that before. Matters of fact, or knowledge learned through
experience, cannot prove how objects function.
People believe in matters of fact because they have some other reason for doing so. All reasoning
concerning matter of fact seems to be founded on the relation of cause and effect. By means of
that relation alone we can go beyond the evidence of our memory and senses. (500) I have a
firecracker and a lighter. The cause for the firecracker to explode would be me lighting the fuse.
The effect of me lighting the fuse would be that the firecracker explodes. These claims are called
causal claims and they explain the cause and effect relationships of objects. Hume uses the
example of someone on a desert island who finds a watch. The person on the island concludes that
the effect of a watch being on the island is a cause of a human once inhabiting it. His reasoning

Who Is Victor Frankenstein Responsible
I admire Victor Frankenstein creative ability to utilize his scientific knowledge to figure out how to
create a man. In order to accomplish this goal, I am impressed at the inordinate amount of time
Victor spent studying and learning how the body works in order to create a human monster. To me
that s impressive but Victor is extremely irresponsible by not including anyone when he is creating
another human. He is selfish and careless in his scientific research. When Frankensteincomes to life
he does not tell anyone about the human creature he created leaving the creature off into the world
with no guidance. Victor s irresponsibility of not understanding the capabilities of his scientific
research and abandoning it makes him careless and jeopardizes society. The decision not to locate

The purpose to create eternal life without dedication to complete the task of which you set forth
was at the cost of the lives of others, his own and the creatures happiness. Being irresponsible
does not overshadow his obsession, it demonstrates Victor had a more complex problem by
creating another creature, human or monster in secrecy. It is difficult for me to understand how
when you create something or discover something how you can be so unresponsive to
completing the task which you set forth to do. And the obsession to create life with the purpose
to create but not take care of will bring overwhelming unhappiness to the rest of your life. As a
friend of Victor, I would advise him to be responsible for his actions being his scientific creation
and seek help to his scientific plan. I would explain why it is important to share knowledge,
thoughts, and intentions with others as a sounding board to make good decisions. In doing this, I
would be able to explain how you improve on your ideas, gain a well rounded perspective, and the
ability to solve problems better taking on an idea or different perspective from others in your

Corruption In On The Waterfront
The corruption on the waterfront is the result of a leaderless group who don t know their own
power. Do you agree?
Kazan s 1954 film On the Waterfront highlights how the corruption on the waterfront is due to the
union exploiting their power. Kazan shows how characters in the film are scared to speak out
against the corruption on the docks, as the union instils fear to all workers. The unions is
controlled by Johnny Friendly who is seen as the leader, who controls everyone on the New Jersey

fact they hang around on those big hotels, and then they spot a pigeon in the park, right down on

workers are constantly seen with these hook, emphasising the idea that the mob is always around.
Throughout the film the idea of the hook punch is also present. It is a sneaky punch, laid around
the ribs, highlighting that people like Terry have to work at something quickly if they ever want to
get anywhere as the union oppresses them. Finally the Kazan uses fog, to represent the oppression
of the docks as they are deaf and dumb and the union instils fear to cloud their moral decision
making, ultimately causing them to not confession or be a stoolie. Kazan integrates symbols and

Visual Learner Self-Assessment

Abstract
In this paper, I take the reader through my search and the processes I went through as a visual
learner to decide on my choice of instruction, online or traditional. I identify my strengths and
highlight how I have used them in this course; uncover my weaknesses, and present strategies on
what to adjust to accommodate them. I also analyze the sources of my preconceived notions about
online learning, why they came about, how they affected me, how they relate to my learning style,
what I have learned from them, and how I plan to move forward using the information gleaned
from the analysis. It is my plan to use the discoveries I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working with faceless people is the biggest adjustment I am making. I enjoy physical human
interaction and I do not have that luxury online. I find that the lack of immediate visual feedback
often puts me in a state of panic. The faceless set up will not change. Online education is here to
stay (Drago amp; Wagner, 2004, para. 5), but I can adjust my mindset. I must look for alternate
ways to relate with others; stop looking for visual cues, and remember that I am in an
asynchronous learning environment. The next best thing to physical interaction is communicating
by telephone or, if possible, video conferencing tools like Skype. In a world that practically
operates daily on Instant (IM), text, and Private (PM) Messages, it should be effortless to apply
these to my academic life. Feedback will come; I just need to be more patient. Living in a society
that has and continues to condition us to instant gratification, it pays to slow down for sanity s sake.
Another potential obstacle as a visual learner is difficulty with spoken directions and may be
easily distracted by sounds ( What s Your Learning Style? The Results , 2012). I proved this to be
true. Video tutorials distract more than teach me. It takes me longer to work through the material
because I keep pausing playback. I lose concentration from this repeated pausing, my sight and
sound senses get over stimulated, and I get overwhelmed. I cannot avoid the sound distractions;
therefore, I must remember to

Dental Implant Equation
Comprehensive treatment of patients with missing teeth and/or hypodontia is difficult. It requires a
teamwork included an orthodontist, a prosthodontist, and a surgeon( in case of implant insertions)

with hypodontia. Using dental implants in patients with hypodontia may be challenging due to
some limitations such as reduced mesiodistal space, impairing the ideal positioning of implants. Too
often, surgeons attempting to place standard diameter implants have forced the restorative team to

Punishment Philosophies In The Criminal Justice System
Philosophies is a definitions of punishment and there are five punishment philosophies that used in
the criminal justice system, retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation and incapacitation that include
isolation. These purpose of these goals are to prevent criminal offenses from committing crimes
according to (Meyer, 2003)
The concept of retribution is generated if someone commit a crime that very bad and people are
afraid to speak out because of fear of retribution. The retributive theory is punishing the offender by
taking away their advantage that they might have gained from their criminal or illegal actions. Due
to this theory offenders deserve to be punished for the wrongful acts they have committed. (Meyer,

Greek Myth Of Icarus
The Greek myth of Icarus goes as follows. In ancient Greece, there was a brilliant inventor named
Daedalus. This man had a son named Icarus. They both lived on the island of Crete, which was
ruled by a tyrant named King Minos. Wanting to escape from island with his son to avoid King
Mino s wrath, Daedalus invented wings to fly across the sea with. As the only means of escape,
Daedaluswarned his son to neither fly too high to the sun and too low to the sea. As the two made
their escape, Icarushad forgotten his father s warning. He enjoyed the feeling of flying too much
and soared higher and higher towards the sun. Eventually, he came too close to the sun and his
wings melted. He plummeted towards the earth, where he fell to the sea and drowned. Stricken
with grief at the loss of his son, Daedalus built a temple to the god Apollo and offered the wings he
made as tribute.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Daedalus was a genius, his invention invaded a domain that belonged solely to the gods. In
Greek mythology, only the Gods were allowed to fly. I believe it was also a lesson in humility. The
warning Daedalus gave Icarus about flying too high could be analogous with knowing your limits
or not wanting too much. However, in a painting done by Bruegel on the subject of Icarus, he paints
the whole ordeal rather as insignificant. A religious man that lived in the 16th century, Bruegel s
painting downplays the Greek gods in that they are only mythical and that the punishment Icarus
receives was neither important nor divine. I think this illustrates that while myths may just be
fantasy stories to amuse ourselves with, at one point they were someone else s religion. It s not a
stretch of the imagination to think that no religion is immune from

Differences Between Weak Impermissibility And The...
In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander
cases which suggests that there is an independent reason to remove any asymmetry in the
personal bystander and footbridge cases. The results showed that participants were aware of the
difference between weak impermissibility and all in impermissibility. In the first experiment,
about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both
in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral
cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding
tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is
clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not
evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to
breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that
people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe
case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between
weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two
underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad
outcomes and the other shows people have a set

Literature with the theme of self-destruction
The act of being self destructive does not just come to be. It occurs slowly and takes hold in
individuals to varying degrees, contingent upon how cold they are, and by their level of self
absorption and conceited desires. A combination of these characteristics can be discerned in each of
the protagonists from the literary forms I studied. Each character is self destructive, but the
consequences of their actions and the number of people they hurt tends to magnify depending on
how many of these characteristics they appear to demonstrate. What unites these characters is their
ultimate self destruction, resulting in the death of three out of four characters studied here. These
four characters are Macbeth, from the play Macbeth by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had
instant consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can
learn from these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be
something we are taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe.
Macbeth and Kenny teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important
because they have the power to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences.
Becoming cold and callous, by blocking access to feelings, is an important teaching tool for society.
An additional flaw that facilitates the destruction of the character s self is the egotistical, conceited
self absorption the protagonists Eddie, Ben, and Macbeth have in themselves. This is evident in
Eddie Carbone s inability to compromise when he finds his incongruous desires for his Niece
threatened by Rodolfo, an Italian immigrant staying in America with the Carbone family to escape
the impoverished conditions in Italy. As Catherine s relationship with Rodolfo strengthens, Eddie s
personal desires and feelings towards Catherine become increasingly more obsessive and

  • 2. The Overall Purpose Of This Brief Paper Is To Characterize The overall purpose of this brief paper is to characterize the main concepts, main techniques, and any current research that supports contextual therapy in relation to contextual theory. While the purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories not addressed in class sessions, contextual therapy (which has also been referred to as contextual family therapyin prior literature) is not per se a theory as much as it is a method of therapy based on Ivan Boszormenyi Nagy s contextual theory. In his determination that there is more to understanding an individual s challenges in relation to others, Boszormenyi Nagy designed contextual therapy to draw attention to his empirically based findings from over 40 years of... Excluding such information could lead to misrepresenting the factors by which the client experiences the world and bankrupt the influence of culture on development. Boszormenyi Nagy stretches facts to include those details about world views that are a product of our own created reality that is culminated by choice and agency. While a child certainly does not have a choice into what family they are born into, the parents do have a choice into how they will interact with each other around that child, such that, inconsistencies or neglect of that healthy relationship could create for the child a fact that unhealthy conflict is normal or that they must choose sides of affection (Goldenthal, 2005). Since there is an underlying foundation of psychotherapy present, contextual therapy accounts for facts that may be present that the client may not be able to bring to their conscience or that they may be unwilling to acknowledge that were out of their control, but nevertheless, still occurred (Ruzgyte, 2011). Psychology. The functioning of the person within was also heavily regarded by Boszormenyi Nagy, such that his reflections from psychoanalytical theories would illuminate the need to connect the parts of the individual psyche: cognitive abilities; emotional functioning; instinctual drives; internal conflicts; moral and intellectual development; and concepts of object relations theory with the other ... There is some tension between scientific psychology (with its program of empirical research) and applied psychology (dealing with a number of areas). Psychologists attempt to explain the mind and brain in the context of real life. In contrast neurologists utilize a physiological approach. Psychologists study such phenomena as perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behavior, and interpersonal relationships. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various spheres of human activity including issues related to daily life e.g. family, education, and work and the treatment of ... This school of thought was called structuralism because of Titchener s interest in the structural make up of consciousness. It was Ticthener s hope to devise a table of the levels, or elements of human consciousness using Wundt s introspection idea. Ticthener viewed psychology scientifically. He believed that the only way to understand psychology was through experimentation. This eventually led to the idea that sensation and feelings were unscientific because it could not be measured by anyone but the person experiencing it. The second school of thought that was popular in psychology s beginning was known as functionalism. This school of though focused on the role psychological processes have on helping people adapt to their surroundings. Functionalists believe that consciousness exists because it serves a function (Kowalski Westen, 2005). William James, one of the founders of functionalism, set out to explain why we think the way that we do. These two schools of thought branch out even further to offer assumptions or perspectives on these theories. The Adopt-A-Rock Project THE GAME OF STONES: KYANITE QUARTZITE ABSTRACT The main objective of this Adopt A Rock project is to analyze and categorize thin section #86 as well as educate the reader about kyanite quartzite and its role on Earth. To identify the #86 thin section: First, using individual mineral characteristics and descriptions under a petrologic microscope, followed by hand sample diagnostics. Metamorphic rocks are significant pieces in the Earth s geochronology. As they develop from the transformation of existing rocktypes, in a process called metamorphism, which means, change in form . Kyanite quartzites appear in four less populated cities in Norway: SolГёr, Surnadalen, Nasafjellet and Skjome (MГјller, et al, 2007). The largest kyanite mine on Earth is hosted at Willis Mountain in the Piedmont Province of Virginia, and several smaller bodies occur through this region (Owens and Pasek, 2009). Kyanite quartz deposits are the biggest and most plentiful of the group of high alumina quartzose deposits in the Southeast (Espenshade and Potter, 1960). The primary kyanite deposits in the Farmville district are the deposits of kyanite quartzite at Willis Mountain and Woods Mountain in Buckingham County, at Leigh and Baker Mountains in Prince Edward County (Espenshade and Potter, 1960). Although, Heaney does not only convey just a literal description of picking blackberries, but also a deeper understanding of the experience. The deeper message would be that even the best things in life can not be preserved. Through diction, similes, and oxymorons, Jeaney conveys the message and describes the experience. Heaney uses strong diction to describe the taste of the blackberries being picked. For example, You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet. Instead of saying the outside of the blackberry or skin, he uses flesh. Flesh is human skin, with muscles, bones, and blood behind it. He uses flesh: because as he bit into the ... When these policies received government support, vast numbers of people of color, white women and men have gained access they would not otherwise have had. These gains have led to very real changes. Affirmative action programs have not eliminated racism, nor have they always been implemented without problems. However, there would be no struggle to roll back the gains achieved if affirmative actionpolicies were ineffective. White vigilante groups like the Klu Klux Klan began to appear, by murdering and terrorizing blacks who tried to exercise their new rights. Legal ways were also found for circumventing the new laws; these included grandfather clauses , poll taxes, white only primary elections, and constant social discrimination against and intimidation of blacks, who were excluded form education and from any job except the most menial. Affirmative action has had its greatest amount of success in city, state, and government jobs. • 9. Defense Of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional: How the Supreme Court s Ruling on DOMA Will Affect Same Sex Taxpayers Melissa Williams Troy University November 20, 2014 Author s Note This paper was prepared for Federal Tax Research 6684T, taught by Dr. Kaye Sheridan. Abstract On June 26, 2013, The United States Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), enabling same sex couples legally married under state law to be recognized for the purpose and benefit of federal law. Section 3 of DOMA previously defined marriage as the legal union of two persons of the opposite sex. This definition was challenged in several court cases for violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Edith Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, declaring DOMA Section 3 unconstitutional and allowing same sex couples to be recognized as married for federal purposes. This opens up several opportunities within federal income tax and estate and gift tax. Some of these benefits include higher standard deductions and gain exclusion; opportunity to lower tax bracket through combining incomes; and entitlement to the marital deduction, gift splitting, and portability of DSUE. Marriage also results in tax disadvantages such as the marriage penalty, joint and several liability, and refund offsetting. Taxpayers and tax preparers should be aware of the new planning opportunities available to married same sex couples, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Teachings Of Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama ( The Buddha... Muhammad, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), and Jesus Christ were extremely influential leaders and were all the keys to establishing three of the major religions today; Islam, Buddhism and Christianity. These religions are currently the largest religions in the world and influence billions of people every day. All three of these men have shaped the course of history and redefined the destiny of mankind. They all lived very interesting lives and preached different lessons to their followers. I would like to start this essay by first looking into the history of each of these men and later comparing and contrasting the way they lived their lives as well as their teachings. Muhammad was born in the year 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca, located now in what is known as Saudi Arabia. His father, Abdullah died before he was born and his mother, Amina passed away when Muhammad was around five or six years old. He was then brought up by his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, who treated him with the utmost love. Two years passed before his grandfather also passed away and Muhammad was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib and his wife, Fatima. They treated him just as well if not better than their own children. The love they had for the young boy was matched by no one. As Muhammad got older, he became known as a very trust worthy, noble and kind man. When Muhammad was twenty five years old, he became a trading agent for a wealthy, noble lady by the name of Khadija. Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) versus Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE) INTRODUCTION Expressed sequence tag or also known as EST are 200 to 800 unedited nucleotide bases in length, and randomly selected single pass sequence reads which are derived from the cDNA libraries while serial analysis of gene expression or SAGE have more shorter sequence tags with only 10 to 20 base pairs. But even it is short it still have enough information to uniquely identify a transcript, especially if it is obtained from a unique position in each of the transcripts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ETS also can determine definitively the number of copies of each transcript per cell and highlight any differential gene expression. EST includes an inefficient sequencing step, in which one sequencing process yields only one cDNA sequence. Although the more recent methods of hybridization based analyses (DNA microarray) using immobilized cDNAs (Schena et al., 1995) or oligonucleotides (Lockhart et al., 1996) can potentially examine the expression patterns of a relatively large number of genes, the method can only examine expressed sequences that have already been identified. In contrast, the SAGE method allows for a quantitative and simultaneous analysis of a large number of transcripts in any particular cells or tissues, without prior knowledge of the genes (Velculescu et al., 1995). METHODOLOGY The SAGE method is based on the isolation of unique sequence tags from individual mRNAs and concatenation of tags serially into long DNA molecules for lump sum sequencing. It can be applied to the studies exploring virtually any kinds of biological phenomena in which the changes in cellular transcription are responsible. SAGE is based mainly on three principles, firstly, a short sequence tags, 10 to 15 base pairs contains sufficient information to uniquely identify a transcript provided that the tag is obtained from a unique position within each transcript to allow the efficient sequencing analysis. If cells are no longer needed, they commit suicide by activating an intracellular death program. This process is therefore called programmed cell death, although it is more commonly called apoptosis. Virally induced apoptosis contributes directly to the cytopathogenic effects of DEN virus in cultured cells. The induction of apoptosis involves the activation of intracellular signaling systems. The cellular factors that regulate cell death can adjust the outcome of DEN virus infection in cultured cells. Apoptosis inhibitors delay DEN virus induced apoptosis, thereby providing a suitable environment for the virus. During DEN virus infection, cell death is also regulated by the harshness of the infecting strains. How Has Nursing Changed Essay Nursing today is at the heart of healthcare provision in the United Kingdom, and nurses are the largest group of clinical employees in the NHS (The Royal Marsden, 2011). This essay will illustrate a discussion on how nursing has changed in the past twenty or so years with regards to how the public health needs have changed and in particular, at how the role of the nursehas adapted to ensure that high quality care is provided. Fluctuating demographics and an upsurge in life expectancy has had increased demand on the NHS services, which in turn has resulted in variations in the roles of healthcare professionals. Many will procrastinate about this but in the end there will be an outcome with what will happen as far as building a border wall. There are many Pros and Cons to this single objective. Starting off with a Pro, Many say this is a racist act or a sign of weakness coming from our President Donald Trump. But in some cases this is an essential thing for the United Statesto do. This walltoo many is wrong to do because our media has a big head on racial point along society today. In the long run a wall could be really beneficial as a commodity for the security of our great nation. Jeff Corwin stated that If this border wall actually happens, it will be an environmental catastrophe. Essentially, what it s doing is cutting through nature s bridge, which connects Central America to North America and South America. Which in many cases this can be supported but then again many people work very hard to become a citizen in the United States for many to come across the border to get here illegally and to most this is unfair. To make another main statement given the rising global instability in North Korea and the Middle East with a strong and supportive border it would be harder for terrorist to get their hands on biological, chemical or radiological weapons. With an insecure border it makes it easier for them to bring them into the United States and launch a devastating attack on the United States. A big Con that has many thinking is who ... • 20. Argumentative Essay On Self Reliance Everyone in life has at least one person who has strongly influenced them in one way or another, but what if that influence ended up being hurtful? In the essay Self Reliance by Ralph Emerson, Emerson gives his advice on how to live independently. Emerson says self reliance is to trust oneself and believe in oneself. He states that this is important because being self reliant leads to a successful path in life. By having individual ideas one will end up doing something she or he wants to do in life which causes success for that individual. He discusses how the only person one needs to listen to in life is oneself and that no other person should influence one s life. I believe there are people in this world that can have a negative influence on one s life, but also people that can have a positive influence. For example, in basketballmy positive influences (parents, teammates, and coaches) help me to succeed in a team sport. Emerson begins his article by talking about the importance of self reliance. He defines self reliance as thinking for oneself and not letting anyone else influence one in any way, shape, or form. As a human being this may be one of the most difficult tasks. Emerson explains that being self reliant can be difficult especially for adults because they are too worried about their reputations and how others will look upon them. Emerson also says, Trust thyself (2). Emerson believes that one should go with his or her gut in everything she or he does. Even if what she or he wants to do goes against the thoughts of others she or he still needs to pursue his or her dreams. The last thing Emerson wants people to do is be embarrassed of what others will think of themselves. People need to throw away others thoughts and opinions and follow one s own. Emerson also believes that one can be great through being self reliant. He says, To be great is to be misunderstood (7). This tells one that if others seem to be judging or confused on what one is doing with his or her life, one should ignore the others, and continue to follow what she or he believes. Emerson explains that if one is misunderstood by others that she or he is on the path to success. For example, when Jesus followers were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Allusion In Infinite Jest In his celebrated 1,079 page novel set at a tennis academy and addiction recovery house, David Foster Wallace borrows a phrase from Shakespeare s Hamlet for the title, Infinite Jest. The allusion is grounded in the vital plot device also named Infinite Jest, a necromantic film that engrosses the viewer to the point of catatonia and eventually death. The filmmaker is the character James O. Incandenza, who sought to produce a film so radically entertaining that it would affectively tear his son Hal from anhedonia, a sarcastic and apathetic state of being that characterized, for Wallace, American culture at the time. As it becomes clear very early on in Infinite Jest, James is dead for the majority of the plot, appearing as a ghost late in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Catherine Nichols points this out, calling James the infinite jester of the novel (11). In view of his connection to Yorick, the allusion to the graveyard scene in Hamlet is twice made explicit: once near the beginning and once toward the end of Infinite Jest; Hal shares a dream with the novel s other protagonist, whereby the two dig up James head (16 17; 934). Of course, the graveyard dream recalls the grave scene from Hamlet, where the titular character discovers that the skull uncovered by the gravediggers is that of his childhood jester Yorick, whom he describes as a fellow of infinite jest (5.1.191 2). As Indira Ghose suggests, the infinite in this line is enclosed within Hamlet s recollection of the jester, so the infinity is reduced to the confines of a single character s memory and is recalled only upon his chance encounter with the skull; the infinite is juxtaposed with the image of the empty skull he holds up to the audience, so the infinite as a concept is exposed as a huge joke (1015). Aside from James The Joke, his film Infinite Jest itself functions as a jest: the overt impossibility of a film engaging a viewer to the point to death, the hyperbolic mother son theme parodying psychoanalytic theory, and, perhaps most poignantly, the glaring absence of the infinite. In Hal s dream, he digs up his father s head in order to find, as it is elsewhere inferred, the master copy of the film. However, as the reader and Hal are aware, James head was destroyed, thus the film no longer exists. This absence recalls the gaping emptiness of the jester s skull as Hamlet holds it up to the audience. In both cases, the infinite itself becomes the joke, in the sense that the yawning absence belies the immutable nature of infinity. Likewise, Wallace s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it is actually a complex process involving three organ systems and many stages. When food is put in the mouth, the teeth grind it up into a paste and the amylase in the saliva begins to break down the carbohydrates. Swallowing takes the food into the oesophagus and by peristalsis moves it into the stomach. In the stomach, strong hydrochloric acid breaks down complex proteins over a period of a few hours. The resulting mixture then moves into the small intestine, the start of which is called the duodenum. Here, bile from the liver and enzymes from the pancreas mix into the food. • 35. Essay on Satan, the Core of MiltonВґs Paradise Lost The great debate whether Satan is the hero of Milton s Epic Poem, Paradise Lost, has been speculated for hundreds of years. Milton, a writer devoted to theology and the appraisal of God, may not have intended for his portrayal of Satan to be marked as heroic. Yet, this argument is valid and shares just how remarkable the study of literature can be. Milton wrote his tale of the fall of man in the 1674. His masterpiece is an example of how ideas of a society change with time. This is because it wasn t until the 1800 s during the Romantic era, that people no longer saw the heroof literary works as perfect in every way. It started to become more popular to develop the flawed character similar to the ones written in the classics. A literary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Satan was unwilling to back down, no matter how great God s power. This mission stands out as an element of the epic hero. In almost all epics written the hero has to stifle past guarded boundaries in order to complete goals. Satan s bravery in trying to learn answers concerning his existence in heaven and his damnation to Hell is noble. Determination to derive truth is an admirable quality. Though his bitterness creates negative characteristics, his core purpose is not entirely blasphemous. He considers all that is placed before him and says in book 1, Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven (263). He knows that Hell is a place of doom and torture, but he is committed to living there with dignity and hopes to eventually rise above the creator and gain back what he feels he is entitled to as a living being. This acceptance of his conditions and determination to overcome makes him the underdog that an audience cannot help but root for. Everyone knows what it s like to be in dark place with no visible escape. People want to be able to relate to a character that remains hopeful. ECT Should Be Used in Psychiatric Treatment In contemporary psychiatry worldwide, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to be useful. However, researchers, the general public and practitioners have not yet understood this therapy. Controversies continue to surround the application of this therapy, especially the long term consequences of its legality and use in the management of some severe major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mental illness. Particularly, a few mental health service users report adverse effects that are associated with ECT for instance, severe memory loss. Some researchers claim that the Electroconvulsive therapy is the utmost controversial treatment in the field of psychiatry. Arguably, ECT should be used in physiatrist treatment. Randomized Controlled Trial (RCTs) demonstrates that the use of ECT is effectual when treating major depression. However, it quickly resolves all mental problems. When controlled in a setting that is safe, the treatment becomes comfortable. Some researchers argue that Genuine ECT is more effective in treating acute treatment caused by depression rather than sham ECT. In addition, ECT is also more effective in comparison with standard antidepressant medication treatment (Sienaert 8). Clinical trials that compare ECT with optimal pharmacotherapy are yet to be conducted. There is no evidence that demonstrates the ECT effectiveness in the treatment of Schizophrenia. Her poetry remains a mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or... The narrator is ready for death and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine. Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than actual humans. My scene begins at 00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it contains interesting points that I have recognized, as the villain shows different characteristics, using aspects such as camera angles. In this analysis, I will be looking at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera and how each of these views influences the audience. The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building, from ziplining, on the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the bank. The scene starts, the camera zooms up onto a building. The window is then broken and the camera switches showing a masked man shooting a zip line across from the building to another building. The clowned mask is being used to hide their faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a heist film. The sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the impression that this is a heist film. The next shot shows a man standing at the corner of the street holding a clown mask in his hand and a bag. The camera slowly zooms up to the mask leading the audience to believe that they may see the identity of the person holding it. This man is unlike the others characters he is not wearing his mask and this builds pressure, but this up tempo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first experiment, about 70% stated that is was not acceptable to violate a moral rule and all things considered both in the personal footbridge case. We can see a recognisable distinction in personal and moral cases, but this was not addressed in these experiments. In addition, a philosophical understanding tells us that when a rule is broken, it is wrong to go ahead with that action (e.g. Fried, 1978). It is clear then from both experiments that a difference between weak and all in permissibility is not evident (Nichols Mallon, 2005). The results show that some people think that it is acceptable to breach a moral rule, even one that allows killing innocent people. This reinforces the idea that people are not absolute deontologists, and this is similar to the issues observed in the catastrophe case. What is notable about the results is that people appreciate the recognisable difference between weak and all in impermissibility. Moreover, the results show an independent mechanism for two underlying ideas relating to moral judgement. One shows that people are able to minimise bad outcomes and the other shows people have a set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Literature with the theme of self-destruction The act of being self destructive does not just come to be. It occurs slowly and takes hold in individuals to varying degrees, contingent upon how cold they are, and by their level of self absorption and conceited desires. A combination of these characteristics can be discerned in each of the protagonists from the literary forms I studied. Each character is self destructive, but the consequences of their actions and the number of people they hurt tends to magnify depending on how many of these characteristics they appear to demonstrate. What unites these characters is their ultimate self destruction, resulting in the death of three out of four characters studied here. These four characters are Macbeth, from the play Macbeth by... When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had instant consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can learn from these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be something we are taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe. Macbeth and Kenny teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important because they have the power to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences. Becoming cold and callous, by blocking access to feelings, is an important teaching tool for society. An additional flaw that facilitates the destruction of the character s self is the egotistical, conceited self absorption the protagonists Eddie, Ben, and Macbeth have in themselves. This is evident in Eddie Carbone s inability to compromise when he finds his incongruous desires for his Niece threatened by Rodolfo, an Italian immigrant staying in America with the Carbone family to escape the impoverished conditions in Italy. As Catherine s relationship with Rodolfo strengthens, Eddie s personal desires and feelings towards Catherine become increasingly more obsessive and conspicuous. He voices his resentment and antagonism towards Rodolfo, determined to prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
