Abstract
On June 26, 2013, The United States Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA), enabling same sex couples legally married under state law to be
recognized for the purpose and benefit of federal law. Section 3 of DOMA previously defined
marriage as the legal union of two persons of the opposite sex. This definition was challenged in
several court cases for violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The
Supreme Court ruled in favor of Edith Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, declaring DOMA Section 3
unconstitutional and allowing same sex couples to be recognized as married for federal purposes.
This opens up several opportunities within federal income tax and estate and gift tax. Some of these
benefits include higher standard deductions and gain exclusion; opportunity to lower tax bracket
through combining incomes; and entitlement to the marital deduction, gift splitting, and portability
of DSUE. Marriage also results in tax disadvantages such as the marriage penalty, joint and several

and blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these
things added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So
Near, So Far is a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the
shadow of people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his
records stood with the jazz world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that
Joe Henderson had his own style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked
for/with. These notes can be improved by providing more information on a visual aspect.

On Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., the Los Rios Street neighborhood of San Juan Capistrano
was relatively quiet with some young Hispanic adults waiting at, and walking to a bus stop.
Many young Hispanic children were playing outside in the front yards, sidewalks, and alleys.
Middle aged and older adults were out walking, and several groups of bicyclists (probably not
from the neighborhood) were riding down the main roads. While driving through the streets and
alleys, four garage sales were noted. The appearance of the residential areas varied between

I chose to analyze The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. My scene begins at
00:01:13 and ends at 00:05:54. I chose to analyze this scene because it contains interesting points
that I have recognized, as the villain shows different characteristics, using aspects such as camera
angles. In this analysis, I will be looking at the setting, lighting, sound and the use of the camera
and how each of these views influences the audience.
The setting within this sequence takes place downtown Gotham city in a building, from ziplining,
on the street, to the van, outside of the building, and last inside of the bank. The scene starts, the
camera zooms up onto a building. The window is then broken and the camera switches showing a
masked man shooting a zip line across from the building to another building. The clowned mask is
being used to hide their faces which is iconic and is an example you would expect to see in a
heist film. The sound in the back ground is a fast hard tempo beat which gives the audience the

Working with faceless people is the biggest adjustment I am making. I enjoy physical human
interaction and I do not have that luxury online. I find that the lack of immediate visual feedback
often puts me in a state of panic. The faceless set up will not change. Online education is here to

While Daedalus was a genius, his invention invaded a domain that belonged solely to the gods. In
Greek mythology, only the Gods were allowed to fly. I believe it was also a lesson in humility. The
warning Daedalus gave Icarus about flying too high could be analogous with knowing your limits
or not wanting too much. However, in a painting done by Bruegel on the subject of Icarus, he paints
the whole ordeal rather as insignificant. A religious man that lived in the 16th century, Bruegel s
painting downplays the Greek gods in that they are only mythical and that the punishment Icarus

In the aforementioned studies, an asymmetry is found between the footbridge and the bystander

When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had
instant consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can
learn from these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be
something we are taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe.
Macbeth and Kenny teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important
because they have the power to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences.
