Ethics in Practice
This activity aims for the students to determine wrong acts or doings with the use of
school technologies.
Below are the different situations in the use of school technologies. Place yourself in each of the
situation and internalize on the action you will do to solve the issues.
1. You as a teacher have purchased educational software for use in your class. Your
colleague who is teaching the same subject borrows the purchased software and later
installs the software in her own computer without your knowledge. You are aware that
what she did was against the law. What will you do with this situation?
 Installing of the software in her own computer without the consent of the owner is
what we called plagiarism, it is against the rule. I will confront him/her in a nice way
to remind the source recognition or the proper laws and regulations in using
educational software in the field of teaching. I will be reminding him/her that what
she/he has done is wrong.
2. You instruct your students that whenever in the computer laboratory, internet access will
be allowed for educational purposed only. However, three of your students accessed the
internet for downloading of internet games and play while you discuss the lesson. What
will you do with these three students? What will you suggest to the school heads to limit
the access of downloading internet games?
 First, I will give a warning to them that whenever they did that again I will talk to
their guardian about that matter and give them a punishment. Second, I will talk to
the personnel in charge about the accessing of the computer that if possible they only
open the internet connection to that specific computer laboratory when the teacher
only ask them.
3. You (as a student) are aware that one of your classmates is being cyber bullied by some
of your classmates. The victim is losing her self –confidence and self-esteem due to the
cyber bullying experiences. What will you do to help the victim and to stop cyber
bullying?
EXPLORE
CHAPTER 8
 Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic
technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and
tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages,
chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails,
rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing
pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.
As a concern classmate, I will talk to my classmate that what he/she is doing is
against the law that he/she might punish by the law, if she/he still continue to bully
our classmate I will report him/her to our adviser.
4. While the class is busy doing their activity in the computer laboratory, you were
requested by your teacher to ask the computer laboratory technician to assist in
troubleshooting the computer unit. As you approached the technician, you saw that he
was watching a malicious movie. The technician then immediately stopped the movie
and told you to just stay quiet. You are aware that it is against the policy of the school.
What will you do with this situation? Will you really just keep quiet like what the
technician has told you?
 I will not tolerate the technician in doing wrong deeds, I will tell my teacher about
what the technician has told me and when I found out that he was watching
malicious movie. And in this way he must be given consequences to pay for his wrong
deed and will remind him to be a role model in everyone. What he did is wrong and
must report, for him/her to stop and to stop the future students to follow what
he/she doing.

Perfecting Policy Proposal
This activity aims to develop students’ awareness with the do’s and don’ts in using
school technologies.
This activity will be done by group (with 3 members in each group). Imagine that one of you is
an academic official, a teacher, and a student. Being representatives of the different sectors of
educational institutions, propose school policies on the effective use of technology in teaching
and learning. Write your proposal below.
“Our Propose School Policies for the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.”
1. Schools must use technology that empowers teachers. – As more resources use and the
best education technologies enable teachers to do more. Teachers rightly reject education
technologies that divert their attention from instruction
2. Teachers should adopt technologies or must include technologies as part of a lesson
planning. - Teachers can incorporate technology directly into their practice and insulate their
students from the deleterious effects of policy churn.
3. There should be teacher of facilitator inside the computer laboratory when classes are
conducted or when students are using computers and other technology tools.
4. Teachers should not fear open-source technologies. - Organizations both small and large
use open source devices every day. Teachers should explore with care.
5. Use online education portfolios to evaluate students. - Teachers can choose from a
variety of online portfolio providers tailored to the needs of their classroom. They also serve as a
platform for students to demonstrate growth.
6. Be wise to use appropriate apps and websites whenever you have to gather researches.
7. Be wise to use appropriate apps and websites whenever you have to gather researches. -
Having a single set of standards eliminates redundancy and conflicting guidelines. Furthermore
universal adoption of common standards will support future technological innovations that aid
teachers.
ASSESS
8. Take good care of computers and other source of internet technology.
9. Downloading of computer games inside the computer laboratory during class hour is
strictly prohibited.
10. Do not abuse the hardware. – it means that if you encounter technical problem tell your
teacher or the facilitator that you are having some problem so that your instructor/ teacher will
contact the Computer Lab Technician.

  • 1. Ethics in Practice This activity aims for the students to determine wrong acts or doings with the use of school technologies. Below are the different situations in the use of school technologies. Place yourself in each of the situation and internalize on the action you will do to solve the issues. 1. You as a teacher have purchased educational software for use in your class. Your colleague who is teaching the same subject borrows the purchased software and later installs the software in her own computer without your knowledge. You are aware that what she did was against the law. What will you do with this situation?  Installing of the software in her own computer without the consent of the owner is what we called plagiarism, it is against the rule. I will confront him/her in a nice way to remind the source recognition or the proper laws and regulations in using educational software in the field of teaching. I will be reminding him/her that what she/he has done is wrong. 2. You instruct your students that whenever in the computer laboratory, internet access will be allowed for educational purposed only. However, three of your students accessed the internet for downloading of internet games and play while you discuss the lesson. What will you do with these three students? What will you suggest to the school heads to limit the access of downloading internet games?  First, I will give a warning to them that whenever they did that again I will talk to their guardian about that matter and give them a punishment. Second, I will talk to the personnel in charge about the accessing of the computer that if possible they only open the internet connection to that specific computer laboratory when the teacher only ask them. 3. You (as a student) are aware that one of your classmates is being cyber bullied by some of your classmates. The victim is losing her self –confidence and self-esteem due to the cyber bullying experiences. What will you do to help the victim and to stop cyber bullying? EXPLORE CHAPTER 8
  • 2.  Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles. As a concern classmate, I will talk to my classmate that what he/she is doing is against the law that he/she might punish by the law, if she/he still continue to bully our classmate I will report him/her to our adviser. 4. While the class is busy doing their activity in the computer laboratory, you were requested by your teacher to ask the computer laboratory technician to assist in troubleshooting the computer unit. As you approached the technician, you saw that he was watching a malicious movie. The technician then immediately stopped the movie and told you to just stay quiet. You are aware that it is against the policy of the school. What will you do with this situation? Will you really just keep quiet like what the technician has told you?  I will not tolerate the technician in doing wrong deeds, I will tell my teacher about what the technician has told me and when I found out that he was watching malicious movie. And in this way he must be given consequences to pay for his wrong deed and will remind him to be a role model in everyone. What he did is wrong and must report, for him/her to stop and to stop the future students to follow what he/she doing.

This activity will be done by group (with 3 members in each group). Imagine that one of you is an academic official, a teacher, and a student.
