Real life applications of ISTE for Teachers and Learners
ISTE Standards for Teachers Real life Practices
1. understanding of technology
operations and concepts
Teacher has to familiarize first technology operations and concepts, otherwise
he/she cannot address the needs of the learners.
2. utilize technology to plan and design
effective learning environment and
experiences
In my lesson plan, I emphasizes the utilization of ICT. I use as springboard to
discussions. Links are provided in my instructional/educational videos for students
to search for further demos of a topic.
3. implementing curriculum plan to
maximize student learning with
technology
If you are incorporating ICT in your lessons, see to it that your students must
have internet connection and gadgets to be used. In the case of MNHS, we have
tablets and internet connection provided to our students. Also, some students have
smartphones because its an important tool for them in their learning activities here
in Senior High School Department. Parents are also supportive here in MNHS.
I am a Senior High school teacher. Once students reach SHS, they can discover
ways how to use technology that can be beneficial to them in their future career
development. Teachers knew concepts of technology and students too have
computer hands on in Junior HS. So being familiar with use of MS Office and
Google Drive will help. Slide show presentations, video presentations, and online
research are used.
4. use of technology for effective
assessment
Use of technology can give instant feedback to teachers. Before, teachers
use clickers and bells, but in our practice now we utilize online quizzes. We
were taught by our IT teachers how to create online quizzes and DepEd
also provided seminars about this.
5. use technology to improve personal
productivity and professional growth
We always incorporate the use of ICT in all our lessons everyday. This is to
master students with the use of technology and to enhance the skills of
teachers as well.
6. use technology to support student
learning from diverse background,
affirm diversity, promote safe and
healthy use and equal access of
technology resource
Give differentiated activities because every student have different styles of
learning. Some perhaps do better in presentation while others are good in
writing. Use of web tools will also help a lot. Google translate, voice aided
typing, chrome extensions are just few examples. Parent-teacher
agreement is a major stakeholder in classroom of diverse learners. Provide
supplementary materials students who cannot access the internet.
ISTE Standards for Teachers Real life Practices
Applications of ISTE for Teachers and Learners
ISTE Standards for Learners Real -life Practices
1. encourage learners to use technology with creative
thinking
Learners are more attracted when teachers uses
technology-based resources. Technology serves as
medium to their creativity. They can upload their outputs of
the lesson in different social media platforms. Usually,
teachers now will just give differentiated activities because
DepEd provided matrix in doing lesson plan, then
incorporate it to ICT. Students will just select what type of
activity to present. Usually video presentations, Vlogs
instead of actual lecture in class.
2. enable students to use technology to communicate and
collaborate for effective individual and collaborative
learning
When teachers introduce video presentation, then students
engage in groupings to refine their understanding through
collaborative ideas from fellow members of the group.
3. use of technology for students to locate, organize,
analyze, evaluate, synthesize and ethically use information
from variety of sources.
Select internet sources which are reliable because there
are references which are considered fake. Not all posted
on the internet are true.
4. use of technology tools to promote critical thinking skills
and solve problems
Students indulge in interactive activities in class,
participate in drills, practice skills and concepts, application
to real life contexts.
5. use technology to enable students to become good
digital citizens
Information found in the internet should be shared and use
responsibly. Cite reputable sources to avoid plagiarism.
6. allow students to learn new technologies and utilize it in
their own to learn better
Those what students found in the internet usually help
them in their difficult subjects. There are a lot of
information, techniques, tutorials searchable in the internet
that cannot be found in textbooks.
ISTE Standards for Learners Real -life Practices

4. use of technology tools to promote
critical thinking skills and solve problems
Letting students decide which technology
tools to use in a certain scenario, how to use
it properly, and gain expected outputs
effectively.
Tools benefit students not just
in the way it is used, but in how
they use it and when. This then
teaches them critical thinking
skills.
5. use technology to enable students to
become good digital citizens
Teaching students on how to display
themselves properly on social media,
especially in terms with the information they
share, their behavior on the social platforms,
and how they present themselves socially
Social media has become a
significant aspect in the lives of
the modern generation thus,
knowing how to be a good
digital citizen is a must
6. allow students to learn new
technologies and utilize it in their own to
learn better
Learning is a life-long commitment and as
technology evolves, students are taught new
technologies to adapt, such as the use of
virtual learning platforms and video-
conferencing applications.
Learning new technologies is
very much like an adventure.
Kids can experience new
things and learn how to use it
for their own benefit,
particularly in their education.
Based on the response of the teacher, what domain of educational technology (Stoic, 2015) is shown? In which situation/
practices?
Domains of Educational
Technology (Stoic, 2015 in
Bilbao, et.al. 2019)
Teaching & Learning
Practices Exemplified
Remarks/ Insights
A. Technology as Tutor Video presentation of a certain topic
sourced from YouTube is a tutor in
itself.
Students quickly learn since video contents
can capture learners attention immediately.
Watching videos of any content is a norm
nowadays.
B. Technology as a Teaching Tool Provides students with easy-to-
access information, accelerated
learning, and fun opportunities to
practice what they learn.
It enables students to explore new subjects
and deepen their understanding of difficult
concepts.
C. Technology as a Learning Tool Use technology to review lectures,
complete assignments, and to
organize and to present
information.
Students have the access to computers in
order for them to access different site that

A. Support to Facilitate Learning Leveraging technology to facilitate
learning can and is done in multiple
manners such as:
1. The use of video conferencing
platforms such as Zoom and Google
Meet to replicate an in-person class
setup
2. DepEd using TV channels and radio
frequencies to broadcast lessons that
are designed for various educational
levels
3. Using instant messaging applications
such as Messenger and WhatsApp so
that students and teachers can
communicate quickly and effectively.
Students and teachers alike are not
completely familiarized with virtual
learning and the use of technology. But
with the standards set by the ISTE,
facilitating continuous learning has
been relatively smoother. Teachers
can now educate their students on how
to access educational materials online
and how to enter virtual classrooms
while being physically located at their
homes.
This also gives teachers the ability to
teach using various forms of media like
videos, music, and powerpoint
presentations.

B. Modernize Learning Environment With virtual classrooms being the
standard for continuous learning in the
21st century, having a modernized
learning environment especially one that
bypasses the limitations of physical
contact allows student ready access to
classrooms and communication with the
teacher and fellow students.
This also allows them access to a myriad
of educational materials that can be
consumed through the use of phones and
computers.
Based in the ISTE standards, teachers
have been encouraged and is currently
using technology tools to make their
own experience, as well as their
students’, easier. For example, the use
of collaborative software like Google
Docs and Slides allows teachers to
relay their lessons to students and give
the students opportunity to access
them anytime and anywhere.

C. Improves way of teaching
(strategies and techniques)
Although in-person classes have its own
pros and cons, virtual learning has it set
of advantages as well. Teachers can now
fully leverage the various teaching
methods such as simultaneous exams,
automated attendance and the ability to
conduct classes way beyond the usual 8
to 5.
Schools with extensive virtual libraries
can now be accessed and used to its
full potential due to the sudden shift to
virtual learning. Also, students are now
more familiarized with technology tools
that can help them create better output
while developing critical thinking skills
in using them.
D. Opens new field in educational
researches
The push for a virtual classroom setup
forced schools, institutions, and
universities worldwide to develop new
teaching methods that can replicate an in-
person class setup. This resulted to the
use of Zoom platforms, instant messaging
applications, and the use of virtually
accessible libraries.
An example situation where technology
opens opportunities in educational
research is in conducting scientific
studies. Through the use of online
platforms like Google Scholar and
Google Docs, teachers and students
are now able to collaborate and
perform research virtually

E. inculcate scientific outlook Teaching scientific outlook to students
can be exemplified through the use of
technology tools that are also accessible
online. Tools such as
1. Virtual libraries
2. Google Scholar
3. Google Search
4. Online scientific publications
allows students and teachers alike to
continue fostering a scientific outlook
In-person collaborative conversations
can be replicated through the use of
video-conferencing platforms. Realtime
collaboration regarding write ups and
written calculations can also be done
through the use of online resources
such as Google Docs and Google
Sheets.
F. Professional development Online training, workshops, webinars,
seminars, symposiums, conferences, and
classes can now be done in a fully virtual
manner. This gives students the ability to
further their education because
everything can now be accessed online
Professional development also entails
developing a network of like-minded
professionals that can help a student to
continue their own academic goals.
Through online platforms, they are now
able to widen their network.

practices and ISTE standards for
improvements
A. allow independent
learning
Students can now asynchronously access
learning materials such as PowerPoint
presentations and educational videos in their
preferred time, thus allowing students to learn
better as they can now set their own time of
learning without the need for physical meetups.
Asynchronous learning requires a certain
degree of responsibility for both the student
and teacher. Through the use of automated
attendance and submission platforms such
as Google Classrooms allow them to keep
everyone’s progress on tract and gives them
reminders for every deadlines and exams.
B. enhances learner's
communication through
social interactions
Having an online-centric environment does not
mean that the students’ social development must
be stunted. Through the use of social media,
teamwork and camaraderie are developed and
proper behavior is taught and refined further.
Creating groups on Facebook creates an
avenue for healthy class discussions. For
example, a teacher can post a topic and
students can then comment their own
answers and collaborate effectively.
B.1. Communication
Patterns used?
Through the use of instant messaging
applications like Messenger, students can now
communicate in real time, whether it be through
calls or through written format.
Realtime messaging gives students the
chance to inform their teachers and fellow
students about their situation, especially in
terms of negligible internet connectivity.

C. Upgrades HOTs
C.1. Critical Thinking Critical thinking is developed through constant
problem solving, logical analysis, and healthy
pressure. Through the use of technology tools,
students can now develop critical thinking skills,
especially in the way they use these tools for
their academic requirements and in the manner
in which they get their desired outputs with it.
Google Sheets, an online version of the
widely-used Excel, has its own robust set of
features that allows student to perform high-
level calculations, analysis and statistics.
Through the use of these software, they
develop critical thinking skills while also
sharpening their logical and math capabilities
C.2.Creativity Creativity is not only fostered inside the four
walls of a classroom. With the vast resources
available readily in the internet, students and
teachers alike can develop inspiration and
personal styles in creating their own output.
Whether it be artwork or an infographic,
technology tools can also be used to create
products that develops a person’s creativity.
Canva, a software used to create graphics
and designs, can be used by students and
teachers alike to produce beautifully-
presented infographics and PowerPoint
slides that can convey their ideas effectively.
Using the software itself requires a high level
of creativity, especially on how an output is
made an produced.

Interview with a Teacher- ED215

  • 1. Teaching & Learning with Technology: In Practice An interview with: Esmeralda Amante Affiliation: DepEd Teacher, Mantalongon National High School Date of Interview: April 1, 2022 Team Name
  • 2. Real life applications of ISTE for Teachers and Learners ISTE Standards for Teachers Real life Practices 1. understanding of technology operations and concepts Teacher has to familiarize first technology operations and concepts, otherwise he/she cannot address the needs of the learners. 2. utilize technology to plan and design effective learning environment and experiences In my lesson plan, I emphasizes the utilization of ICT. I use as springboard to discussions. Links are provided in my instructional/educational videos for students to search for further demos of a topic. 3. implementing curriculum plan to maximize student learning with technology If you are incorporating ICT in your lessons, see to it that your students must have internet connection and gadgets to be used. In the case of MNHS, we have tablets and internet connection provided to our students. Also, some students have smartphones because its an important tool for them in their learning activities here in Senior High School Department. Parents are also supportive here in MNHS. I am a Senior High school teacher. Once students reach SHS, they can discover ways how to use technology that can be beneficial to them in their future career development. Teachers knew concepts of technology and students too have computer hands on in Junior HS. So being familiar with use of MS Office and Google Drive will help. Slide show presentations, video presentations, and online research are used.
  • 3. 4. use of technology for effective assessment Use of technology can give instant feedback to teachers. Before, teachers use clickers and bells, but in our practice now we utilize online quizzes. We were taught by our IT teachers how to create online quizzes and DepEd also provided seminars about this. 5. use technology to improve personal productivity and professional growth We always incorporate the use of ICT in all our lessons everyday. This is to master students with the use of technology and to enhance the skills of teachers as well. 6. use technology to support student learning from diverse background, affirm diversity, promote safe and healthy use and equal access of technology resource Give differentiated activities because every student have different styles of learning. Some perhaps do better in presentation while others are good in writing. Use of web tools will also help a lot. Google translate, voice aided typing, chrome extensions are just few examples. Parent-teacher agreement is a major stakeholder in classroom of diverse learners. Provide supplementary materials students who cannot access the internet. ISTE Standards for Teachers Real life Practices
  • 4. Applications of ISTE for Teachers and Learners ISTE Standards for Learners Real -life Practices 1. encourage learners to use technology with creative thinking Learners are more attracted when teachers uses technology-based resources. Technology serves as medium to their creativity. They can upload their outputs of the lesson in different social media platforms. Usually, teachers now will just give differentiated activities because DepEd provided matrix in doing lesson plan, then incorporate it to ICT. Students will just select what type of activity to present. Usually video presentations, Vlogs instead of actual lecture in class. 2. enable students to use technology to communicate and collaborate for effective individual and collaborative learning When teachers introduce video presentation, then students engage in groupings to refine their understanding through collaborative ideas from fellow members of the group. 3. use of technology for students to locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize and ethically use information from variety of sources. Select internet sources which are reliable because there are references which are considered fake. Not all posted on the internet are true.
  • 5. 4. use of technology tools to promote critical thinking skills and solve problems Students indulge in interactive activities in class, participate in drills, practice skills and concepts, application to real life contexts. 5. use technology to enable students to become good digital citizens Information found in the internet should be shared and use responsibly. Cite reputable sources to avoid plagiarism. 6. allow students to learn new technologies and utilize it in their own to learn better Those what students found in the internet usually help them in their difficult subjects. There are a lot of information, techniques, tutorials searchable in the internet that cannot be found in textbooks. ISTE Standards for Learners Real -life Practices
  • 6. What new Educational technology concepts and terms you recently know, understand, and apply in your own teaching and learning experiences? Educational Technology Concepts and Terms Operational Definition 1. Digital Media - Includes websites, webpages, social media, digital audio media such as MP3. - Used by students in gathering, retrieving, and saving information. 2.
