1) Strengthening health information systems has been difficult due to issues like replacing routine data collection with surveys, a lack of accountability, and parallel data collection between agencies.
2) Assessments of health information systems have increased understanding of problems, but not provided solutions. More work is needed to establish how to strengthen systems.
3) The Brazilian experience shows that empowering civil society and decentralizing systems can improve accountability and make local governments responsible for health information and indicators.

Japan has made numerous achievements in health most notably the world’s highest life-expectancy in the past two decades, since its founding Universal Health Insurance System in 1961. However, ageing population with low-fertility rates, stagnating economy, increasing burden of NCDs and growing use of expensive technologies pose the critical challenges in service delivery and financial stability in health. Japan HiT reports current health system reforms undertaken and also recent discussion on paradigm shift to the new system as proposed in Japan Vision: Health Care 2035.
This review outlines the main organizational, financing, human resources and service delivery features of the health-care system. Although there has been implement in overall health outcomes since the 1990’s the current levels are still below average for the country’s Pacific neighbors. The remoteness of the many rural communities has hampered improvements in health services. This is one of the major challenges that the country faces in order to achieve SDG heath targets by 2030. This Hits highlights steps taken to overcome challenges especially in the face of epidemiological change in disease burden that is slowly taking place in the country.
As countries continue to invest and make strides toward achieving the SDGs and universal health coverage, strong routine health information systems (RHIS) are fundamental to the effort. Well-functioning RHIS provide a wealth of data on a country’s health system, including service delivery, availability of a trained workforce, and reach of interventions, that can be harnessed to identify gaps and support evidence-based decision making. Yet, while many low-to-middle income (LMIC) countries have established a national RHIS structure, there are existing challenges related to the availability, analysis, and use of the data that have yet to be addressed.

The Cambodia HiT reports that the national health sector reforms initiated two decades ago have had a positive impact on Cambodia’s health sector. The country’s health status has substantially improved since 1993 and is on track to achieve the Millennium Development Goal targets. Improving the quality of care is now the most pressing imperative in health-system strengthening.
Public Health Surveillance Systems and Knowledge ManagementT.docxdenneymargareta
Public Health Surveillance Systems and Knowledge Management
The overarching goal of public health informatics is to apply computer science and information technology to promote health and minimize disease and injury at the population level. Public health informatics uses data from surveys, vital statistics, hospital and clinical statistics, private and public data sources, and government data sources for analysis in improving population health. The goal of technology in public health is to improve case reporting of potential outbreaks early and improve surveillance methods by investigating trends of diseases at a local, national, and global level.
Key concepts of public health informatics is to convert data into information and then knowledge using:
Data collection
Storage
Retrieval
Key functions of knowledge management, which assist public health professionals include:
Monitor health status.
Diagnose and investigate health problems.
Inform and educate the public communities.
Develop polies and programs to support community health.
Enforce laws and regulations.
Link communities to needed health services.
Assure that the health professionals are well trained and competent in their field.
Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of health services.
Research new insights into community health problems.

Community Coalition
1. Choose 5 partnerships to engage and explain why you would invite each of these people//organizations to be a part of the coalition.
The creation of community health promotion and education programs takes into consideration several agencies or parties who help in the achievement of the desired health goals. Each of the partners will address its roles using different approaches depending on their area of expertise. This is an important factor to consider as different institutions address health promotion using different approaches and perspectives. The overall outcome from the contribution of every partner should be able to restore and promote the physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological, and social wellness of the community in relation to the health issue being suffered (Minelli, & Breckon, 2009). Chronic diseases are currently the leading causes of death in the community due to their complexity and the severe effects on human health. The community health promotion and education program will be provided by the ‘Health Concerns Coalition’ which will be made up of the following partners; community religious groups, Cancer Supportive Care Foundation, an association of cancer-survivor patients, nutritional organizations, and the local authority.
1. Cancer Supportive Care Foundation – This is an important part of the coalition as it will offer technical expertise in education and diagnosis of chronic diseases. The foundation team will include medical experts who will diagnose the community members of any chronic illnesses. Examinations for diseases such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes and blood pressure will be conducted by this partner as they will provide modern machines needed for the diagnosis of chronic illnesses.

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

1. Strengthening Information Systems for Social Development Indicators and Targets for a Post-Millennium Development Goal Fatima Marinho [email_address] Coordinator of Information and Health Analysis Pan America Health Organization – PAHO/WHO Global Health Metrics & Evaluation Seattle, Mar 14-16 2011
2. Information is one of the main MDG weaknesses. For two and a half days we have discussed methods, metrics, discrepancies, models, strategies, accountability etc In all of those discussions the problem of the information has been pointed. If we look at the situation of the information in the world we could say: Although efforts have been made to strengthening the Health Information Systems (HIS). Introduction
3. WHY HAS IT BEEN SO HARD STRENGTHENING THE HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEM? Problems 1- Replace routine systems by surveys and estimates. The easy option for surveys and estimations as a primary way of understanding and measuring progress occurred in detriment of the strengthening of the HIS in most countries. 2- Accountability issues: both governments and international organizations need to be responsible for improving health information. 3- Parallel information . In the Americas there are many international agencies with projects to prevent children and maternal mortality or disease prevention and control (like Global Fund), but those projects collect parallel information without strengthening national HIS. 4. The use of the statistical models for estimates instead of strengthening the local capacity for analysis. 5- Non-ownership or non-usage of results . Production of external knowledge that is given to national governments causes non-ownership or non-usage of results by many countries.
