1) A group of students participated in activities with AL-Bairaq to learn about light properties including spectra, diffraction, interference and iridescence.
2) They observed these light phenomena through experiments using a compact disc, water waves, and thin films.
3) For their final project, the students proposed designing a light signal for bicycles to decrease accidents, which would use acrylic sheets, LED bulbs, wires and switches to create turn signals mounted on the bicycle handlebars.

Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) Module: The students study the concept of using dyes to plant dyes to capture the solar energy to convert it into electrical energy simulating the natural process “photosynthesis”. They use the workshop-gained knowledge in DSSC to invent new products.
The project consists of two parts, one of them is improving DSSC (They used curcuma as a test dye for modifying the DSSC) and the other part is an idea about application on the Bicycle.
This project was done by the Professors group of Al Shaimaa Independent Secondary School for Girls. The students undergo workshops on the module smart sensors where they gain knowledge about smart sensors and the PVDF films through activities, experiments and projects which depend on smart sensors. At the end students do a design project that challenges them to build a coin-countering device or to invent a new smart sensors of their own.
The product idea illustrates the usage of smart sensors to identify the no. of vacant seats in the stadium.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Outline
• Introduction
• Activities
– Lights And Their Spectra
– Observing Diffraction
– Observing Interference
– Observing Iridescence
• Product Idea: design light signal for
bicycle
3. Introduction
.
Light is a transverse, electromagnetic wave
that can be seen by the typical human. Like
all electromagnetic waves, light can travel
through a vacuum.
4. Activities
Activity 1: Lights and Their
Spectra
In this activity we used a
compact disc to make a
Spectroscope to explore the
component colors, or spectra
of light emitted from different
light sources
Activity 2: Observing
Diffraction
In this activity we learnt about
diffraction of waves. We
observed diffraction of water
and light waves as they pass
through openings of different
widths
Photo of Activity 2Photo of Activity 1
5. Activities
Activity 3: Observing
Interference
In our third activity, we learnt
about constructive and
destructive interference of
waves in 1Dimentions such as
a wave passing through a
string, 2D like water waves, 3D
as light waves.
Activity 4: Observing
Iridescence
We observed that we can see
colors not only from the
pigments of subjects but also
as a result of iridescence. We
learnt that iridescence can be
caused by thin films, as well as
the nanostructure of the
material.

6. Final project
design light signal for bicycle
´Introduction
´ We think to design a light signal
in the bicycle because we
noticed a large number of
accidents happened to the
riders of the bicycle and cars
´ We have benefited from Al-bairaq activities that we can
use acrylic sheet and L.E.D bulbs to perform our project
´The aim of our project: design a light signal
for bicycle to decrease the accidents of bicycles.
7. design light signal for bicycle
Hypothesis
´To design light signal in the
bicycle to decrease the
bicycle accidents
8. design light signal for bicycle
method and material
Materials :acrylic sheet –wires –LED
bulbs –switches
Method:
1-drill the signs on the acrylic sheet
2-fix the LED bulbs
3-connect the wires with bulbs and switches
4-fix the switches to the steering wheel
5-try the model
9. design light signal for bicycle
Results
´ This project is expected to have several important
results
´ 1-increasing the efficiency of bicycle riders
´ 2-reduce traffic accidents caused by bicycles
especially in cities
´ 3-pedestrian alert for bicycle directions and
avoid collisions
10. Design light signal for bicycle
recommendations
´ We recommend that a company adopt this
product FTER IT IS DEVELOPED and put into the
market
´ Cycling companies adopt this idea and add this
model to the bike so that it is part of the bike
because it is important in achieving the safety of
the cyclists and also the pedestrians
11. Conclusions
Through our participation with
Al-bairaq team , we have
acquired many of the
most important
knowledge and skills
1-Ability to work
cooperatively and
teamwork
2-self –confidence and self-
development
3-developing research skills
and use materials
effectively
4-organize ideas and find
alternative solutions
