Management Planning Paper

Management Planning Paper In management, each of the four functions, planning, organizing,
leading, and controlling, are crucial to the development of any business. Involving employees in the
planning process help them understand the goals of the organization. Planning is analyzing a
situation, determining the goals that will be pursued, and deciding in advance the actions needed to
pursue the goals. This paper will evaluate the planning function of the Halliburton Company and
analyze the impact that legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibilities have on
management planning along with examples of each, and analyze three factors that influence

Halliburton is a major provider of engineering services, particularly to the energy sector. Halliburton
's accounting practices on cost overruns on construction jobs was investigated. The former CEO of
Halliburton, who was in charge when those accounting practices were introduced, Dick Cheney,
currently Vice President of the United States. A suit was filed that alleged Mr. Cheney conspired,
along with others at Halliburton, to file false financial statements and thereby mislead investors. The
suit claimed Halliburton 's deceptive accounting procedures led to overstatements of revenue
amounting to as much as $445 million in a three–year period during Mr. Cheney 's tenure as CEO
(Gutman, 2002). Today 's competitive environment requires managers to continually upgrade the
skills and performance of employees–and their own. Such constant improvement increases both
personal and organizational effectiveness. It makes organization members more useful in their
current job and prepares them to take on new responsibilities (Bateman, Snell, 2007). Some factors
that influence Halliburton strategic, tactical, operational and contingency planning are diversity
training, staffing, performance appraisal, and so forth. Diversity training focus on building
awareness of diversity issues as well as providing the skills employees need to work with others
who are different from them. Programs that focus on identifying and reducing

Functions of Management Paper
Functions of Management Paper
The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. All four of
these functions of management are used through out each and every type of business out there in the
world.
The first function of management is planning. Planning is "specifying the goals to be achieved and
deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals." Planning includes
analyzing current situations, looking into the future of the company, deciding what activities the
company should look into and determining resources needed to achieve the goals. In my place of
employment, at a local hospital, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nurses' jobs are also planned because the nurses have specific jobs that they need to do before
the doctors even go into the see the patients. Planning is used through all of the hospital each day in
the way that each job is performed. Planning is helpful because it allows for every employee to
know what they are supposed to do everyday and what their job title means.
The second function of management is organizing. Organizing is "assembling and coordinating the
human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals." Organizing
is used a lot in my particular job as a front desk person because I need to organize all of my
paperwork and other materials so that I know what is needed for each patient that comes into the
office. As my job at the front desk, I need to check patients in, know what forms need to be signed
or filled out, and if what needs to go into their charts. By me organizing all of the paperwork it
allows me to know better what each patient needs to do when they come in for their appointments.
By organizing I can look at the face sheet with all of the patients' information on it and know exactly
what they need to sign. The face sheets allow me to write on the paper if I need to copy insurance
cards, if the patient needs a referral, if there is a co–pay to be collected, their address, phone number,
place of employment, etc. All of this organizing helps in the planning of

Impact of Business Decisions with the collaboration of Knowledge Management in IT sector
Introduction:
In the current IT industry, Business decisions are the key factor in this global environment to run
companies (Martin, 2009). Most of these requires analysis that was done logically of the available
information. Based on the few theories, 47% of the business organizations are worsening due to the
inappropriate business decisions (Rábová & Hodinka, 2011). Hence Business decisions in the IT
companies are to be made in a right path to perform well in this emerging world. Few of the
companies were still failing to take the critical business decisions which was already a raised in the
past (Hu, Almansoori, Kannan, Azarm, & Wang, 2012). In order to make the effective business
decisions without any failure right in the future, there must be a process or system to share and
manage the information resources within the organization (Lin, Tsai, & Wu, 2014). This process
must reduce the manpower and also improves the corporate efficiency, effectiveness, innovation and
customer services (Daniel & Christopher, 2011). This issue can be rectified with the help of
Knowledge Management system.
Knowledge Management (KM) is described as a systematic process of sharing, reusing and
managing the knowledge only when it is made available and recorded (Jashapara, 2005). This helps
an organization to gain insight and understanding for own experience (Remus, 2012). Most of the

This can be done by fulfilling the businesses strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting
and risk management. "Management defines what the future should look like, aligns people with
that vision, and inspires them to make it happen despite the obstacles" (Bateman–Snell, 2007). Is it
possible for someone to manage his or her bosses, competitors, and associates like they do their
employees, suppliers, and customers? The answer to this question is obvious; no one can manage
them all alike. The key to dealing with upper management is to understand persuade, motivate,
influence, and encourage them into doing what is expected out of them. There aren't any rules or a
regulation that goes along with doing this; nor is there a designed role that comes to mind in the
management field. Another word that describes this way of inspiring others and that is through
leadership. Leadership can be defined as one of the assets that a manager can possess but has to
aspire to be. Leadership can be view as a way of getting things done by inspiring people to do them,
unlike managers where they force or demand someone to get them done. "In VICTORY! Tracy
outlines seven "responsibilities of leadership," defined as "areas where you must perform
consistently well to become an excellent executive and fulfill your responsibilities to yourself and
your organization" (AMA 2008, par. 3).

Management Planning Paper on Arthur Andersen
In 1913, the company Arthur Andersen started by Arthur Andersen and Clarence Delany by the
name of Andersen, Delany, & Co. In 1918, it was given the name Arthur Andersen & Co. The
company supplied tax, consulting services and auditing for the large business, and itself had a
position in the "Big Five" accounting firms. In 2002, this firm was found guilty for auditing an
energy corporation, Enron and it surrendered back its rights of auditing. This led to Enron 's
bankruptcy and loss of 85,000 jobs. Any type of business development requires constant planning.

The organization has to consider the stakeholders, customers, community, and employees while
performing its operations. Proper implementation of as well as the utilization of all the legal
standards, ethical standards and social responsibility standards, assist an organization in achieving
growth and success in the business environment. In the case of Arthur Anderson, the company has to
focus on the development of strategic planning and implementation for effectively performing its
operations. The three important factors influencing the company 's planning are the lawful ethical
and the corporate social responsibility factors. These three factors are an essential part of any
organization and the organization must comply properly to all these factors, as they are necessary
for planning in an organization (Galbreath, 2006). The company 's strategic planning is often
influence by legal and ethical factors. The legal factor of Arthur Anderson is not functioning
properly and has an adverse effect on the planning of the organization. It follows wrong and illegal
accounting practices, which has led the company into legal troubles. The company took away from
their biggest and most popular client– Enron Corporation. The company should work in accordance
with the legal laws and should properly fulfill its legal responsibilities. The ethical factor of Arthur
Anderson clearly states that it should fulfill its ethical responsibilities, regardless if it loses

1. Courses I Am Taking This Quarter –
In the first quarter I am enrolled for the hybrid course Project Management BA63177 H3 (Instructor
name is Dr. Eric S. Harter) and will be taking the Information technology from January 2018 in the
same semester. I requested for this plan because of my marriage in November 25th 2017. Thanks for
being flexible in timely manner.
2. Link outcomes from my 1st course to My Workplace –
They Items I learnt and liked something interesting in the course , some of them are listed below
enterprise performance management, project monitoring ,project planning, and project management.
The enterprise performance management is it kind of framework for organizing analyzing the
business and this process used to rule the overall performance of the system. It is also helpful in the
work environment for driving the unified set of object into planning monitoring executing the
deliverables. It also improves the financial operations with efficient results. The most important term
in the course is project management which is the root of organizing and managing a project from
scratch to the completion of any project. Project manager role is important for any successful
completion of the project. The rules and responsibilities of the resources could be decided by the
manager. Manager is ideally responsible for making big decisions in the project. Scheduling the
project is another important aspect which adds the value to the project and provides the
commitments. Initial stuff is planning which defines the needs of the project and designs, define
how to move forward with the project. This also includes gathering the right resources for the right
task and at the right time. The project manager should be qualified enough to get the tasks or
projects delivered in time.
In my job I have observed some of the concepts that I have learned in this course such as I have
been introduced to my project manager, so he has gathered the technical skills information from me
and analyzed in all perspectives and assigned me to the right project under the supervision of
another manager who is dedicated to that project. There I have observed how the

Does the framework describe and define the concepts of interest?
Yes, the framework describes the concepts of interest well. Each variable in question is well
described with the questionnaire entries discussed and interpreted for each of the independent
variables.
3. Does the framework present the relationships among the concepts? Is a map or model of the
framework provided for clarity?
The framework presented does not explain the relationship among the independent variables
themselves. It explains more about each variable specifically with no explanations about how each
independent variable relate to the other. However, the relationship between the dependent and the
independent variables is partially explained in the framework. The framework flow chart is not
drawn in the research but only a presentation of the outcomes due to the researches secondary and
primary variables is represented in a diagram
4. Are the concepts in the framework linked to the study variables?
Yes the concept is linked with the study variable because it's true that knowledge, impact of pain,
self–efficacy and coping with pain affect the menstrual pain management.

Integrated Disability Management Paper
This paper is going to discuss that companies with Integrated Disability Management Programs in
both Canada and the United States are derived from and driven by core values
Core values shape the culture and support the vision and identity of an organization. An organization
has its origins and a mission to succeed, build a strong reputation and promote their programs by
following in accordance with appropriate values. An organization that demonstrates its business
ethics by implementing and publicly stating the organizations core value belief statement, allows
employees, potential clients and investors to form a positive opinion of the company's image and
what the company stands for. An organization demonstrates positive core values, when they initiate
a workplace program that integrates Disability Management, that uses a planned and coordinated
approach to facilitate and manage employee health and productivity to minimize or reduce the losses
and costs associated with employee medical absence regardless of its nature of those disabilities. A

The employee turnover ratio is less and overall work is at a more manageable level. The IT function
of a 7–eleven store would consist of connection of hardware and software, networking, and
maintenance. A business with more than 500 employees poses more of a challenge to be successful
and profitable. The business I chose with more than 500 employees is Wal–Mart. Wal–Mart stores
are located all over the United States and is a retail store that specializes in everything from
groceries to new car tires. The hierarchical organization of Wal–Mart stores from top–down on a
store level would be: Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Department Managers, Team Leader, and
Store associate. (Walmart Corporate, 2011). The hierarchical organization for Wal–Mart does not
work in my opinion, because of the high turnover rate of employees working for this organization. I
previously was employed by Wal–Mart and lasted three years. In those three years it was almost like
a revolving door of employees getting hired and fired by the company, management included.
Although Wal–Mart is one of the most successful retail store chains in the world, in order to climb
the corporate ladder and maintain is a very hard job to do. The IT function for Wal–Mart is a very
tedious one including networking, technical support, installation of hardware and software, training,

Management and Leadership Paper
I Introduction: Leadership and management are two opposing styles of employee supervision
actively used with in the organization. It has lots of similarities, yet there are many differences that
separate a manager from a leader. Bateman and Snell, 2008 stated that "Management is the process
of working with people and resources, to accomplish organizational goal" (p19). Leadership is a
manner in which a leader aspires to persuade his or her team to launch and achieve organizational

Leaders are risk–takers and ready to hurdle problems that overcomes on their way. Leaders allow
changes and use it to their advantage by taking the change that people would like to follow. Leaders
are innovators with creativity to invent and focus on the vision. Leaders are mentors and see people
strengths while manager evaluate people, restricts initiative, and looks for what employees are doing
wrong. Leaders concentrate on the future while managers think about the short –term goals and
focus on what needs to be dealt now with no intention of thinking about the future (Leadersdirect
2008). This is really true in the organization I work. Managers are the ones who manage the budget,
reports and statistics, are preoccupied with the maintenance issues, and deals with solving problem.
They are focusing on their work expecting the good effort done by the staff.. The leader in our unit
works with the staff to achieve the best, and leads the other staff to reach their goals. The unit
manager depends on the leader to accomplish the unit activities, and the leader is a role model that
most of staff members follow to improve themselves.

discuss these differences and explain why both terms are thought to be similar. Leadership is a facet
of management, is just one of the many assets a successful manager must possess and care must be
taken in distinguishing between the two concepts. The main aim of a manager is to maximize the
output of the organization through administrative implementation. To achieve this, managers must

In many cases it is a subordinate member with specific talents who leads the group in a certain
direction. "Leaders must let vision, strategies, goals, and values are the guide–post for action and
behavior rather than attempting to control others." When a natural leader emerges in a group
containing a manager, conflict may arise if they have different views. When a manager sees the
group looking towards someone else for leadership he may feel his authority is being questioned.
Groups are often more loyal to a leader than a manager. This loyalty is created by the leader taking
responsibility in areas such as: Taking the blame when things go wrong, celebrating group
achievements; even minor ones and giving credit where it is due. The leader must take a point of
highlighting the successes within a team, using charts or graphs, with little presentations and fun
ideas. Leaders are observant and sensitive people. They know their team and develop mutual
confidence within it. A leader is someone who people naturally follow through their own choice,
whereas a manager must be obeyed. A manager may only have obtained his position of authority
through time and loyalty given to the company, not as a result of his leadership qualities. A leader
may have no organizational skills, but his vision unites people behind him. Management usually
consists of people who are experienced in their field, and who have worked their way up the
company. A manager

Personal Health Records: To help improve PHM programs patients and physicians need to be

Management and Leadership Paper

When we think about what a leader and manager is, most of us will use the same meaning. But in
actual fact this is incorrect. We have to look at these two terms differently. What is a manager? A
manager is someone who is responsible for directing and controlling the work and staff of a
business, or of a department within the organization. So what is a leader? A leader is someone whom
people follow, somebody who guides or directs others. Looking at both terms they both are very
different. The question is always asked is a manager can be a leader and leader a manager. The true
answer is managers are not always leaders, while leaders can be ... Show more content on

Because we know it is easier for a leader to be a manager, a manager can also be a leader. They need
to understand the different roles and skills when it comes to becoming both. Some organizations are
only looking specifically for managers. While other organizations want a person who obtains both
skills. Depending on the type of organization culture the company has senior management would
base their decision on that. Looking at the current economic environment managers should know
how to perform many different tasks to keep the employees motivated. With this type of
environment both the skills of a manager and a leader is required. Actually, strong management and
leadership skills are necessary to tackle these difficult economic times.
The Roles and Responsibilities of Manager and Leaders
Understanding the difference and similarities between managers and leaders can be enlightening.
Managers develop and manage plans that impact the strategic vision of an organization while
leaders set strategic visions for the organization. Managers establish plans, support strategic plans,
and organizational objectives. Managers also evaluate and track the achievement of tactical plans
that have been assigned to specific staff. While on the other hand leaders motivate staff to achieve
the object and task set forth. Managers serve as problem solvers. Managers are the people who
assign resources to groups. On the hand leaders serve as persuasive change agents.

Teamwork presents diverse approaches and solutions to tasks and problems within an organization.
It is an effective method to ensure that an organization's tasks are handled and effectively and in a
timely manner as opposed to a single–hand approach. Given the myriad reasoning and points of
view to a single problem or task at hand, a number of diverse solutions can be achieved through
teamwork. As such, it is imperative to keep team members motivated and focused on achieving
organizational goal (Baker, Day & Salas, 2006). It should be noted that refocusing and motivating
team members towards achieving organization's goal can be a daunting task. There are a number of
tactics that can be utilized by leaders in order to keep team members refocused, motivated and
productive.
Communicating changes
It is of outmost importance for the team leader to openly and honestly communicate changes to the
respective team members. Communication presents an effective method in combating loss of
productivity and mitigating concerns on uncertain features. Open and honest communication by the
team leader has the potential of keeping team members refocused on productivity while at the same
time it reduces possible concerns that may be present in regards to uncertain futures. It is imperative

What is operations management?
Operations management is the management of processes that create goods and/or services which is
the core to any business. (Stevenson, 2012) Operations involves leading within several operational
duties such as: service design, process selection, selection and management of technology, design of
work systems, location planning, facilities planning, and quality improvement. There are many
activities that should be a focus for Operations Managers and can help ensure process and

Tools and parts were standardized to allow for those efficiencies and price reduction. Frederick
Winslow Taylor, efficiency engineer, began this movement and is known as the "father of scientific
management". (Stevenson, 2012) Taylor reviewed work methods to find the best overall method to
complete the job at hand and works to maximize outputs. The Scientific Management era also
included pioneers: Frank Gilbreth, Henry Gantt, Harrington Emerson, and Henry Ford. Most of us
have heard about Henry Ford and his invention of mass production facilities that allow for higher
production for standardized goods. (Stevenson, 2012) Interchangeable parts and the idea of division
of labor allowed for lower paid workers to handle simplified tasks with little to no skills needed.
Both Taylor and Ford were reviled by workers for caring more about the overall productivity than
the employees that handle said products.
The Human Relations movement was brought about due to the Scientific Management era that
showed little to no concern for the workers. Now, there was a focus on the human element within
the job responsibilities. Lillian Gilbreth, wife of Frank Gilbreth, was a psychologist and focused on
the human aspect as her husband focused on the production line. She began work studies showing a
high amount of worker fatigue which led to a focus on employee motivation. Elton Mayo proved

Introduction In this paper we are going to take a look at eight companies that have received special
awards for their efforts at diversity management. We will look at how each company approached
diversity management. The eight companies I have chosen are: MasterCard, AT&T, Procter &
Gamble, Wells Fargo, The Walt Disney Comp., Northrop Grumman, Time Warner and Verizon
Communications.
Diversity First of all, what is diversity? Diversity is "the state of having people who are different
races or who have different cultures in a group or organization" (Merriam–Webster, n.d.).

Procter & Gamble Procter & Gamble was awarded Innovation, Partnerships & Social

sure they have the right products for the consumers, customers.
Wells Fargo Wells Fargo uses a business strategy to earn more business "from women, people with

Depth of contaminants may limit some types of application processes. The material used to stabilize
contaminants may get eroded due to environmental conditions. Solidified material may also restrict
future use of the site. There is scanty data to support the durability of stabilized products over their
indefinite disposal life. To ensure that contaminants have not been re–mobilized, long term
monitoring is crucial. For long–term compatibility, each application must be carefully tested as
certain waste streams are incompatible with variation of this process. Organic wastes are generally

Before implementation of S/S process, removal of debris and any underground obstruction is a must.
In–situ mixing of binder and waste can result in uneven performance due to heterogeneous
distribution of contaminants. S/S of sensitive areas may inhibit more comprehensive restoration in
future. Assessment is need for any potential changes that occur in physical setting. There are no
studies to support for long term behavior of solidified material. Additional testing and design is
required to ensure S/S effectiveness for certain contaminants. Cementitious processes are not
effective in treating VOCs or some metals (e.g., chromium (VI)) Time limitation is an issue for
treatment and posttreatment modification options in field performance testing and changed
properties of treated material. Dewatering is required for processing of contaminations below water
table. Reagent delivery is difficult than for ex situ applications Large concentrations of oil and
grease may prevent S/S process (cement hydration) Air collection and treatment devices are
necessary to avoid transfer of VOCs from waste to atmosphere. S/S process involving verifications,
ISV, may allow subsurface migration of contaminants into clean areas. ISV is only effective for
near–surface contamination. Glass forms are stable for longer time periods, however de–vitrification
of glass can occur over time. In sorption technique, equipment requirement is as per job

However, sand is not the only material needed for making glass containers. Other materials are also
added to the process to help "glass with its working properties at high temperatures and to provide it
with chemical resistance in use(Saint–Gobain)." In addition to new raw material, Saint–Gobain
Containers is also a "Green Company" which uses as much recycled glass as possible. "Glass is one
of the few packaging materials that can be recycled indefinitely (Saint–Gobain)." Melting Glass
melting is a HOT process. When melting glass a continuous heat of over 2500 degrees Fahrenheit is
needed in order to obtain optimal quality. This is done by Saint–Gobain Containers by using reliable
energy resources such as natural gas and occasionally fuel oil. Being a "Green Company" includes
using energy resources which provide low emissions. Natural gas provides a low emissions level
and thus is Saint–Gobain Containers main source of heating energy. This is also less expensive
overall when compared to oil fuels. Other energy comes from an electric boost which is used to
operate machinery and air supplies for the heating sources. Using efficient heating sources has been
one of the leading factors in lowering the operating cost of Saint–Gobain Containers in the last two
years.

together make the organizational culture and are responsible for its health. We will look at the

However, some of the managers from "previous era" were not very enthusiastic about participation
in these sessions. So, Welch started what he called "work–out" sessions. The managers would not be
included in these discussions which were facilitated by academic people hired from outside the
organization. After discussing the problems and solutions within the work–out group, the points
were then discussed with the concerned managers there and then and they had to decide about
whether to accept the solutions or give their view points against them and provide better options or
to setup a plan to execute in phases (answers.com). Finally, these sessions became a way of
resolving problems and involving employee participation and are still being used by managers to
solve issues. Managers were the key messengers of the leadership to propagate and implement their
messages. Managers were encouraged to come up with new ideas and were invited to Crotonville to
proudly share ideas in front of Welch and the proficient executive team of GE (answers.com). Jack

experienced an angry patient. Thursday at QBEC there are no patients, it is just a day where the staff
members catch up on work. A patient came in saying they have an appointment at 9:15 and they do
not know the doctors name. My staff member and I then went on the computer and asked for the
patient's date of birth along with their last name. The doctor name did not come up on his record. We
explained to him that it is impossible to have an appointment today since no one gets scheduled
appointments. The patient started getting angry and then raised his voice and we had to tell him that
we would call the doctors to ask them. We found the solution that he was in the wrong office and he
just came for a consultation check up from his blood work. The problem in this was that he did not
check in with the staff from downstairs on where to go but rather he just came in the office starting a
rage. This was a great example of how to calm an unsatisfied patient. This situation lasted 10
minutes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another risk is an organizational risk. This type of risk occurs when the management commitment,
political expectations, or legislative requirements to complete the project are impacted because the
project does not proceed. This type of risk looks very bad on the organizations and makes the
stakeholders question what type of organization they have invested in. Then you have technical
risks. These risks are "associated with maintaining skilled staff, hardware and software
dependencies, application software, other infrastructure needs, and security vulnerabilities and
safeguards" (hhs.gov). This type of risk affects the organization is a major way. If not handled in a
proper manner, the organization can be destroyed. The organization has to realize that the
stakeholders are looking at this very closely. They want to know that the organization is serious

important that no one is giving out improper information. In order to mitigate these risks, the

Reflection Paper On Masters Of Management
I recall a year ago, I was just about to graduate from my bachelor's degree that I was undertaking in
Melbourne and pondering on the dilemma of my next step – whether to take on graduate school, or
head back to Singapore and start working. Fast forward a year later, here I am writing my final
reflection piece for the Masters of Management program.
Coming from a totally different background in Communications, you may be wondering: why am I
doing a Business program? All of us have varied motivations in life, and needless to say for myself,
I had three core reasons.
My first reason is the desire to better my leadership skills. This will be useful for the disparate
leadership roles that I would like to take on with the organisations I will work with in the future.
Secondly, I wanted to enhance my business knowledge. It would come in handy as this degree
provides a very broad aspect of the underlying factors of the business world, which would be useful
when I enter the workforce. Undertaking a structured degree program of such seemed like a more
comprehensive way of examining an intriguing yet contrasting subject from what I am used to. It
helps me develop my skillset for organising business activity, managing business processes, and
solving business problems. The aspiration to obtain better knowledge and develop my professional
life has always been the guideline on all of my academic decision.

Every company, including police agencies can have conflicts that need to be addressed by the
leaders of the organization. A number of conflicts begin as something very miniscule and grow over
time to destroy the motivation and confidence of a law enforcement agency before it is even able to

out of control and has the employees worked up, and demanding to what is happening. Several
leaders have fears regarding conflict, rather than seeing it as a potential way to create changes to a
policy that is not working in the current environment. Managing conflict is an element of being a
strong leader in an organization and helps inspire the employees to be more productive and engaged
in their jobs. As a leader, they have to be engaged in all aspects of their organization and at a

I feel it would take a few weeks to get this plan implemented only because it would be a change for
hospital staff and we all know at time that changes take time to get them going and all staff
following new procedures. Staff would have to take the extra few minutes to explain why a
medication is being given. But, on the other hand they would only have to explain it once not every
single time a dose was given and the patient would have a record of the medication they are taking.
The personnel involved in my plan would be the hospital pharmacist or IT department to send down
or make available to nursing staff handouts or database available to access on each medication that
is being administered to each patient while being hospitalized.
Expectations and Obstacles
My expectations from implementing this action would be that more patients are aware of why a
medication is being administered to them and what reactions could possibly happen. In addition I
feel that doing so would help element medication distribution errors. The printing of medications
being administered would have an increase on the budget due to the paper cost and ink as well as
time of staff. Some obstacles that I feel may occur is that with the shortage of hospital staff is that
they would not want to take the extra time to explain to each and every patient why they are being

Planning: The first major function of any management position is planning. Planning includes
several different steps. These steps include: Defining your objectives, determining where you stand
with your objectives, developing premises regarding future conditions, analyzing possible
alternatives, and implementing the plan and then evaluating the results. (Schermerhorn, 2001) The
planning part of management differs depending upon the field. Financial and marketing managers
deal primarily with short–term plans. However, MIS, corporate legal, and human resource managers
focus more on the long term, projected planning for the company. In order to implement plans, a
manager must go through the process of organizing. Despite the differences between long to short
term planning, all fields are considered to have a level of planning.
Organizing: Another facet of management is organizing. Organizing is the process of developing
work arrangements for people and resources. The process of organizing benefits the structure of the
work setting and how to allocate the work. (Schermerhorn, 2001) Managers often organize a
corporation through organizing their employees and/or the physical aspects related to their specific
field. A corporate legal manager adds structure to a company's legal teams, and a human resource

According to Hasebur Rahman (2012) stated that Taylor shows the value of matching the job to the

He also emphasized the selection proceeds years after years and need to study workers' strengths

principle is to ensure the most efficient way would be use workers in order to make the standard

makes managers easily to control and co–ordinate the workers' performance and to improve the

The functional structures allow all the employees inside the functional divisions of a company to
perform a set of specific assignments. Every department within a company is staffed with employees
that are knowledgeable in that specific field. For example, employees that specialize in engineering
stay within the engineering section of the company, and the administrator that work in the Human
Resources (HR) department stay in that sector of the company. It is a very comprehensible system to
keep the right people in the right place doing the job they are trained to do The only negative aspect
to this setup of this structure is that there is little to no communication between the among the
separate divisions. However, if an emergency were to arise, each division would be able to respond
accordingly. The second structure in project organization is the matrix structure. According to "What

management theories are specifically designed for issues nurses and nurse managers come across on
a daily basis. Hildebrandt and Persily's theory of community empowerment is a perfect example of
how nursing management could handle the challenges of relocating to a new unit. The theory of
community empowerment is a middle range theory and was originally designed to improve the
health of people in their communities, but could easily be adapted to accommodate a different
situation. The theory contains three essential aspects in its framework: involvement, lay workers,
and reciprocal health. This theory is designed to incorporate and empower everyone involved. By
empowering the community of nurses and sustaining employee engagement, patient and employee
satisfaction would remain the same, if not increase (6 Leadership strategies for navigating perpetual
change in healthcare, 2015). Change is hard for most people and the time to adjust varies. The
problem in question will be discussed further in the following sections, as well as a strategy to solve
the issue, as well as a conclusion.
Problem or Issue According to Lin, Foster, Chaboyer, and Marshall (2015), hospital relocation is
one of the most challenging and complex change management projects. As a nurse manager and
leader, it is

Bateman, Scott A. Snell, 2009). Step one gathers and summarizes information that is in question. It
examines current conditions with an attempt at forecasting future conditions. Step two generates
alternative goals that may be used as an alternate if the first desired plan does not work. Step three
evaluates the potential of the alternative goals and prioritizes/eliminates ones that might or might not
work. Step four in management planning is the selecting of goals believed to be most appropriate
and feasible by the managers. Step five implements the goals and plans into action by managers.
Goal achievement is likely to be linked to the organization's reward system to encourage employees
to achieve the goals and implement plans properly (Thomas S. Bateman, Scott A. Snell, 2009). Step
six is essential in making sure goals and plans are met. If the goals and plans are not monitored and
controlled managers would not know if they were ever met successfully. Boeing the huge
corporation that it is has had its fair share of legal issues. The corporation has to pay special
attention to detail when it concerns obeying the laws and regulations in regard the manufacturing of
aircraft. The planes must be tested for safety and flying ability before they ever hit the mainstream
public. Notices on the aircraft tell passengers when they should be buckled and when it is
considered safe to unbuckle. Engineers have to provide manuals for the

All four of these functions of management are used through out each and every type of business out there in the world. The first function of management is planning. Planning is "specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals." Planning includes analyzing current situations, looking into the future of the company, deciding what activities the company should look into and determining resources needed to achieve the goals. The nurses' jobs are also planned because the nurses have specific jobs that they need to do before the doctors even go into the see the patients. Planning is used through all of the hospital each day in the way that each job is performed. Planning is helpful because it allows for every employee to know what they are supposed to do everyday and what their job title means. The second function of management is organizing. Organizing is "assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals." Organizing is used a lot in my particular job as a front desk person because I need to organize all of my paperwork and other materials so that I know what is needed for each patient that comes into the office. As my job at the front desk, I need to check patients in, know what forms need to be signed or filled out, and if what needs to go into their charts. By me organizing all of the paperwork it allows me to know better what each patient needs to do when they come in for their appointments. By organizing I can look at the face sheet with all of the patients' information on it and know exactly what they need to sign. The face sheets allow me to write on the paper if I need to copy insurance cards, if the patient needs a referral, if there is a co–pay to be collected, their address, phone number, place of employment, etc. All of this organizing helps in the planning of ... Most of these requires analysis that was done logically of the available information. Based on the few theories, 47% of the business organizations are worsening due to the inappropriate business decisions (Rábová & Hodinka, 2011). This can be done by fulfilling the businesses strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting and risk management. "Management defines what the future should look like, aligns people with that vision, and inspires them to make it happen despite the obstacles" (Bateman–Snell, 2007). Is it possible for someone to manage his or her bosses, competitors, and associates like they do their employees, suppliers, and customers? The answer to this question is obvious; no one can manage them all alike. The key to dealing with upper management is to understand persuade, motivate, influence, and encourage them into doing what is expected out of them. There aren't any rules or a regulation that goes along with doing this; nor is there a designed role that comes to mind in the management field. Another word that describes this way of inspiring others and that is through leadership. Leadership can be defined as one of the assets that a manager can possess but has to aspire to be. Leadership can be view as a way of getting things done by inspiring people to do them, unlike managers where they force or demand someone to get them done. "In VICTORY! Tracy outlines seven "responsibilities of leadership," defined as "areas where you must perform consistently well to become an excellent executive and fulfill your responsibilities to yourself and your organization" (AMA 2008, par. 3). ... Initial stuff is planning which defines the needs of the project and designs, define how to move forward with the project. This also includes gathering the right resources for the right task and at the right time. The project manager should be qualified enough to get the tasks or projects delivered in time. Wal–Mart stores are located all over the United States and is a retail store that specializes in everything from groceries to new car tires. The hierarchical organization of Wal–Mart stores from top–down on a store level would be: Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Department Managers, Team Leader, and Store associate. (Walmart Corporate, 2011). The hierarchical organization for Wal–Mart does not work in my opinion, because of the high turnover rate of employees working for this organization. I previously was employed by Wal–Mart and lasted three years. In those three years it was almost like a revolving door of employees getting hired and fired by the company, management included. Although Wal–Mart is one of the most successful retail store chains in the world, in order to climb the corporate ladder and maintain is a very hard job to do. It has lots of similarities, yet there are many differences that separate a manager from a leader. Bateman and Snell, 2008 stated that "Management is the process of working with people and resources, to accomplish organizational goal" (p19). Leaders concentrate on the future while managers think about the short –term goals and focus on what needs to be dealt now with no intention of thinking about the future (Leadersdirect 2008). However, these words actually describe two different concepts. Below, I will discuss these differences and explain why both terms are thought to be similar. Leadership is a facet of management, is just one of the many assets a successful manager must possess and care must be taken in distinguishing between the two concepts. When a natural leader emerges in a group containing a manager, conflict may arise if they have different views. When a manager sees the group looking towards someone else for leadership he may feel his authority is being questioned. Groups are often more loyal to a leader than a manager. This loyalty is created by the leader taking responsibility in areas such as: Taking the blame when things go wrong, celebrating group achievements; even minor ones and giving credit where it is due. The leader must take a point of highlighting the successes within a team, using charts or graphs, with little presentations and fun ideas. Leaders are observant and sensitive people. They know their team and develop mutual confidence within it. A leader is someone who people naturally follow through their own choice, whereas a manager must be obeyed. A manager may only have obtained his position of authority through time and loyalty given to the company, not as a result of his leadership qualities. So, Welch started what he called "work–out" sessions. The managers would not be included in these discussions which were facilitated by academic people hired from outside the organization. After discussing the problems and solutions within the work–out group, the points were then discussed with the concerned managers there and then and they had to decide about whether to accept the solutions or give their view points against them and provide better options or to setup a plan to execute in phases (answers.com). Finally, these sessions became a way of resolving problems and involving employee participation and are still being used by managers to solve issues. Managers were the key messengers of the leadership to propagate and implement their messages. Managers were encouraged to come up with new ideas and were invited to Crotonville to proudly share ideas in front of Welch and the proficient executive team of GE (answers.com). Angry Patient: This past Thursday April 6th, I experienced an angry patient. Thursday at QBEC there are no patients, it is just a day where the staff members catch up on work. A patient came in saying they have an appointment at 9:15 and they do not know the doctors name. My staff member and I then went on the computer and asked for the patient's date of birth along with their last name. The doctor name did not come up on his record. We explained to him that it is impossible to have an appointment today since no one gets scheduled appointments. The patient started getting angry and then raised his voice and we had to tell him that we would call the doctors to ask them. We found the solution that he was in the wrong office and he just came for a consultation check up from his blood work. The problem in this was that he did not check in with the staff from downstairs on where to go but rather he just came in the office starting a rage. This was a great example of how to calm an unsatisfied patient. This situation lasted 10 minutes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, on the other hand they would only have to explain it once not every single time a dose was given and the patient would have a record of the medication they are taking. The personnel involved in my plan would be the hospital pharmacist or IT department to send down or make available to nursing staff handouts or database available to access on each medication that is being administered to each patient while being hospitalized. Expectations and Obstacles My expectations from implementing this action would be that more patients are aware of why a medication is being administered to them and what reactions could possibly happen. In addition I feel that doing so would help element medication distribution errors. The printing of medications being administered would have an increase on the budget due to the paper cost and ink as well as time of staff. These steps include: Defining your objectives, determining where you stand with your objectives, developing premises regarding future conditions, analyzing possible alternatives, and implementing the plan and then evaluating the results. (Schermerhorn, 2001) The planning part of management differs depending upon the field. Financial and marketing managers deal primarily with short–term plans. However, MIS, corporate legal, and human resource managers focus more on the long term, projected planning for the company. In order to implement plans, a manager must go through the process of organizing. Despite the differences between long to short term planning, all fields are considered to have a level of planning. Organizing: Another facet of management is organizing. Organizing is the process of developing work arrangements for people and resources. The process of organizing benefits the structure of the work setting and how to allocate the work. There are many ways to solve a nursing problem or issue, but nursing management theories are specifically designed for issues nurses and nurse managers come across on a daily basis. Hildebrandt and Persily's theory of community empowerment is a perfect example of how nursing management could handle the challenges of relocating to a new unit. The theory of community empowerment is a middle range theory and was originally designed to improve the health of people in their communities, but could easily be adapted to accommodate a different situation. The theory contains three essential aspects in its framework: involvement, lay workers, and reciprocal health. This theory is designed to incorporate and empower everyone involved. By empowering the community of nurses and sustaining employee engagement, patient and employee satisfaction would remain the same, if not increase (6 Leadership strategies for navigating perpetual change in healthcare, 2015). Change is hard for most people and the time to adjust varies. The problem in question will be discussed further in the following sections, as well as a strategy to solve the issue, as well as a conclusion.
