Management By Objective (MBO) is a process where managers and employees agree upon objectives and understand what they are aiming to achieve. MBO was coined by Peter Drucker in 1954 as a "management by objectives" system to integrate managerial activities in a systematic manner directed towards effective goal achievement. The key aspects of MBO include setting goals, developing plans, reviewing progress, and appraising performance. When implemented properly, MBO can improve motivation, communication, performance, and satisfaction. However, it also faces risks such as unrealistic targets and bureaucratic processes.
