 Art is defined as the ability to use information and
skills to get the desired results.
 In organization managers come up with unique and
creative solutions to various business challenges.
There is no predefined solution to business
problems. Every business, every situation is different
to handle, and application of individual skills and
tact to build new processes is a normal part of
Management.
Why management is an art?
 Innovative like an art, performance of
everyone is different like a player
 Personalized approach while handling the
situation
 Lot of creativity
 Pretheoretical knowledge is available. For
example, Singing Schools, Dancing and
acting schools etc. management is having
in the form of theories and management
schools.
Management as a Science…..
 Science is an organized collection of knowledge that
has an explaination on the basis of facts for every
phenomenon. The concepts and hypotheses of
science are all defined with principles, and a similar
thing is practiced in Management.
 Like art, Management also shares key factors with
science, which can quickly help us term Management
as a science.
Why management is science?
 Systematic structure of knowledge
 Results may vary though the input is
same
 Principles and process of management
is universally followed and accepted
Management as a Profession…
 A profession is a form of occupation in which a
person renders his/her services after acquiring
expertise in a particular domain. The professional is
remunerated by the company for which he/she
renders the services.
 The profession involves a contract between a
company and the professional for a specific period,
and the entry factors for the role are limited by
various factors.
Why management can be a profession?
 Formal education and system is available
 Specialization is available like other professions
 Independent practice can be done like engineers,
chartered accountant in the form of consultancy
 Fees is charged for consultancy
All features of profession are not found in Management
like only qualified persons (MBA’s) can work as a
manager), license is required to work as a manager.
Conclusion
 Management is a combination of an art, science
and profession.
 It is not a pure science like Chemistry or
Mathematics.
 It is related to human behavior so it is a social
science.
 In this modern era of LPG, it is emerging as a
profession but not recognized by any institution as
a profession like engineer, medical practitioners or
CA’s.
