American Inventor
 Birth: March 20, 1856 in Philadelphia
 Death : March 21, 1915 in Philadelphia
 Joined Midwell Steel Works in 1878 at lower level as a
worker
 He introduced Work Study
 Introduced Differential Piece Rate System of Wages
 Joined Simonds Rolling Machine Company
 He introduced Time and motion study to find out the
best movements and operations of workers
 Joined Bethlehem Steel Company in 1898
 Conducted pig iron handling, shoveling,
metal cutting experiments and found the
ways of eliminated waste and efficiency.
 He wrote articles in different magazines
and 5 books
 The famous one is ‘Principles and Methods
of Scientific Management.’
 Founder of SM Theory and known as

 Human aspect is neglected
 Wrong assumption relating to motivation through
financial gains
 Applicable mostly to production industry where
performance can be calculated quantitatively
 In spite of this limitations, Taylor’s contribution
in management is outstanding and remarkable.
