F.W. Taylor is considered the father of scientific management. He introduced concepts like time and motion studies to improve efficiency. Some key principles of scientific management include replacing rule-of-thumb methods with data-driven tasks, labor-management cooperation, and using wage incentives like differential piece rates. Taylor's ideas focused on optimization but were criticized for neglecting human factors. Overall, scientific management aimed to improve productivity and reduce costs through principles of standardized work based on empirical analysis.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Students, digital devices and success - Andreas Schleicher - 27 May 2024..pptxEduSkills OECD
Andreas Schleicher presents at the OECD webinar ‘Digital devices in schools: detrimental distraction or secret to success?’ on 27 May 2024. The presentation was based on findings from PISA 2022 results and the webinar helped launch the PISA in Focus ‘Managing screen time: How to protect and equip students against distraction’ https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/education/managing-screen-time_7c225af4-en and the OECD Education Policy Perspective ‘Students, digital devices and success’ can be found here - https://oe.cd/il/5yV
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

3. Stages in development of management thoughts
Pre-historical (Priests were planning trade routs and work into
artisans, soldiers, labors etc. Exa. The Roman empire)
Organized Society, Church, Military and State admini.
( Techniques like grouping, division were mentioned by political,
military and social org, not by business org.)
Industrial revolution era (Rapid growth of tech., scientific
management, impact on society, emergence of thinkers)
Consolidation and codification(Management based on statistics
through techniques like surveys, ratings, job analysis, production
control systems, BEA etc.)
Recent developments(Professionalization, skills of manager)
4. Contribution of
F.W. Taylor : An
American Inventor
Birth: March 20, 1856 in Philadelphia
Death : March 21, 1915 in Philadelphia
Joined Midwell Steel Works in 1878 at lower level as a
worker
He introduced Work Study
Introduced Differential Piece Rate System of Wages
Joined Simonds Rolling Machine Company
He introduced Time and motion study to find out the
best movements and operations of workers
5. Joined Bethlehem Steel Company in 1898
Conducted pig iron handling, shoveling,
metal cutting experiments and found the
ways of eliminated waste and efficiency.
He wrote articles in different magazines
and 5 books
The famous one is ‘Principles and Methods
of Scientific Management.’
Founder of SM Theory and known as
Father of SM
7. Principles and Features of Scientific
Management
Replace rule of thumb with scientific methods
Planning and scheduling work (Scientific task setting)
Labor-management cooperation
Division of responsibility
Change in old methods of production for maximum output
Job specialization (Concept of functional foremanship)
Scientific selection, training and development of workers
Standardization of materials, methods, tools, time etc.
Wage incentives (Differential wage system)
Mental revolution (On the part of management and workers,
development of scientific approach towards the work)
8. Techniques/Mechanism of SM
1. Scientific task setting
2. Planning
3. Standardization of equipment's
4. Scientific recruitment and training methods
5. Functional foremanship
6. Differential piece rate system of wages
7. Work study :Time, motion and fatigue study
Mental Revolution
9. Advantages of SM to organizations
Reduces cost of production with best quality
Benefits of division of labor
Increased wages due to differential piece rate wage
system
Proper methods of selection and training of labors
Better working conditions
Better utilization of resources
Systematic structure of work
Gains to owners in the form of increased productivity
Gains to consumers as they can get quality product with
less price.
10. Criticism on Taylor’s SM
Production centric mindset
Human aspect is neglected
Wrong assumption relating to motivation through
financial gains
Applicable mostly to production industry where
performance can be calculated quantitatively
In spite of this limitations, Taylor’s contribution
in management is outstanding and remarkable.
