How to Run an Awesome After-school Makers ClubDiana Rendina
Whether you already have a thriving makerspace or are just getting started, forming an after-school group is ideal for diving deep into projects and building up a culture of making in your library. It's often difficult to get students into makerspaces for in-depth projects during the school day, so starting an after-school club can be a great way to jump-start your program and get your students engaged.
Learn strategies for how to get started, including tips on advocating for an after-school club with your administration. Learn about setting norms and procedures for your students, balancing design challenges with free exploration and creating a reflection and sharing piece for students. I'll share about my experiences with our Stewart Makers Club over the last two years. No matter where you're at, an after-school Makers Club can be an amazing way to bring the Maker Movement into your school.

The world is changing at a breakneck pace. We're preparing our students for jobs that don't even exist yet. In this rapidly evolving world, it is vital that we equip our students with the skills they will need to thrive, such as critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration. Integrating STEM through hands-on learning in our classrooms will help to develop these skills in our students. We'll look at examples of how project-based learning and the Maker Movement have transformed learning at Stewart Middle Magnet.

In the 21st century there has been a resurgence of the DIY movement and many libraries are incorporating makerspaces into their organizations. Making opportunities can provide hands on self-driven learning opportunities that exercise creative thinking and problem solving skills, as well as create new interactive and fun ways to learn. Creative spaces can encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and provide an opportunity to bring individuals together who might not otherwise connect with the library.
This webinar will include a review of makerspaces found in academic and public libraries, as well as provide practical examples of pop-up making spaces including: Holiday card making, Edible Books, Polynomiography, an Art Library Coloring Book, and a Lego® Playing Station. Pop-up making spaces can be a low cost opportunity to create new partnership, as well as an impactful solution to implementing a culture of creativity within your organization.

Corporations are constantly challenged to find ways to keep learners engaged. Methods such as social learning, portal, and mobile learning have been implemented with success; however, gaming has remained elusive. Often, a gaming initiative can fall victim to the constraints of time and budget, while other organizations struggle to determine how to best harness the power of gaming in their learning strategy. The question remains: Is it possible to produce corporate gaming that engages the learner without breaking the bank?
Join Sheri Weppel, Director of eLearning Development and Training for GP Strategies, in this 20-Minute Webinar to discuss how to bring game-based learning into your enterprise today. Specifically, she will consider:

- What are the elements of gaming that captivate the learner?
- What support is required to ensure a successful knowledge transfer?
- How can gaming be achieved in a responsible time and budget allocation?

Big Talk From Small Libraries 2019

“It doesn’t get done in a day. Enabling Project Based Learning with the iPad”
Project Based Learning is not a new concept to teachers and learners. Project Based Learning allows a student to work over an extended period of time answering a driving
question. The question can be so deep that it requires students to create a project to share their findings with others.
In a traditional classroom, a Project Based Activity can take days or even weeks to complete. The iPad has not only transformed the way that we teach and learn but
has enabled teachers to deliver and manage Project
Based Lessons in a creative, time efficient and effective
way that allows students to critically think, analyse and
present their findings.
Participants of this workshop will leave with a toolkit of
iPad apps such as Tools4Students, Explain Everything,
Creative Book Builder, and resources to assist in the
development of Project Based Lessons in the classroom.

Looking for ways to increase your collaborations with your science teachers? Bring your makerspace into the curriculum! This session will look at a variety of ways that you can collaborate with your science classes and incorporate makerspaces and maker activities into the curriculum. I'll focus on a year-long collaboration with my 6th grade science classes where the teacher and I led a different maker focused project each quarter that tied in with her curriculum. This included projects on lab safety, earthquakes and weather detection devices. I'll also share examples of smaller, one-day collaborations I've done with science classes. We'll look at practical examples of ways to collaborate with your science teachers, as well as different makerspace supplies and activities that can help support your science classes. While these examples will be focused on middle school, the concepts and ideas can be applied and adapted to any grade level! If you're looking for ways to get your classes into the makerspace more in a way that ties in with curriculum, this session is for you.

Updated version of How to Reimagine Your Library Space - 11-18
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
