This document defines and provides examples of several key concepts in US foreign policy: imperialism refers to taking over other countries for economic gain; neutrality means avoiding involvement in overseas conflicts; isolationism is opposing alliances and entanglements with other nations; containment was the post-WWII policy of stopping Soviet expansion; international organizations and collective security involve alliances between nations; and détente aims to reduce tensions between countries.
