2. MAINTENANCE OF HIGH VOLUME
RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER
MAINTAIN A LOG BOOK TO KEEP RECORD OF BLOWER SERVICING
Carbon Brush
 Use only original carbon brushes and other blower spares like armatures and field coils.
 Ensure carbon brush make matches with make of blower.
 Check the carbon brush length before starting of the sample. Replace it if the length reduces to 5mm.
 Brushes must be replaced in pairs.
Caution: - Do not delay replacement of carbon brushes.
 Check the alignment of brushes is along the longitudinal axis of blower motor.
 Movement of carbon brushes need to be smooth. If it is not do not file the carbon brush. Remove the
carbon deposits from the brush holder with the help of needle file.
Cleaning of Blower
 The accumulated carbon on armature and field coil need to be carried out periodically (every 1000hrs. of
operation)
 Clean the blower with alcohol or any other organic solvent never use aqueous solution for cleaning of
blower parts.
Commutator Wear
 Inspect the commutator segments for excessive wear or pitting periodically.
Greasing
 Clean the inside of the commutator cover. Apply fresh bearing grease on bearing for lubrication.

3. MAINTENANCE OF HIGH VOLUME
RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER-BRUSHLESS
BLOWER
V-belt tension must be checked every 6 months & tightened
regularly.
V-belts need to be replaced once in a year.
Input voltage to the blower must not be less than 190V.
Water does not fall on motor (Rain or manometer water) .
Always give 1hr break after each 24 hrs samplings.
Bearings must be greased regularly .
Mounting of the blower must always be stable

4. MAINTENANCE OF MANOMETER
ASSEMBLY
Only distilled water need to be filled in the
manometer.
Water need to be replaced every fortnightly.
Manometer tank should be flushed out once
in a quarter.
Don’t leave the water inside the manometer
tube if the instrument is expected to remain
unused for more that 2-3 weeks.

5. MAINTENANCE OF CYCLONE ASSEMBLY
 Once in three months the cyclone
and inlet pipe should be cleaned
thoroughly.
 Inlet pipe bend should also be
cleaned by opening LN bolts.

6. MAINTENANCE OF ‘O’
RINGS/GASKETS/PVC PIPE
 Once every 6 months check the cracks and leaks
in various rubber gasket and ‘O’ rings. Replace it
to avoid leakages.
 Replace the PVC pipe once in a year.
 Replace the top cover gasket if edge of the dust
deposited after sampling is no longer sharp.
 ‘O’ rings of cyclone where cup is fitted needs to
be checked and replaced once these are loose.
 Inlet pipe gasket should be checked periodically
and shall be glued if it has become loose.

7. GENERAL CHECKING OF
INSTRUMENT
 Hardware needs to be tightened periodically.
 Time Totalizer checking must be done regularly.
 Wire mesh should not be loose
 Electrical ware and connectors must be checked periodically.
 Ensure stocking of some frequently required spares like PVC
Pipe, Impinger, Manometer Tube, ‘O’ Rings, Gaskets, Mains
Cord and Miscellaneous Hardware.
 Ensure regular calibration of Rotameter, Flow Meter and Time
Totalizer.
 Ensure stabilized power supply to the instrument it should be
220v + 10V output.
 Ensure length of the mains cord should not be more than 10
meters and without joints.
 While operation lock wheels .

8. MAINTENANCE OF FPS
Inlet Cap: Clean the air screens located under the sampler’s inlet cap every 3 months of
operation.
PM10 Impactor: Clean the PM 10 impactor after every two weeks of inlet usage. The inlet
must be cleaned when the unit is not in operation.
Down Tube (PM10 & PM 2.5) :
 Clean the inside of down tube with paper towel after two weeks of usage or after
unexpected results.
 Inspect the ‘O’ rings very time of usage, if found loose and cracks replace immediately
WINS PM 2.5 Impactor:
 Clean the greased impactor section having ‘O’ rings of the WINS PM2.5 impactor
after every 5 days of inlet usage. The impactor must be cleaned before the sampling
start.
 ‘O’ rings should be checked for crack and fitment after every 5 days.
Upper and Lower Cassette Seals: Inspect that rest against the filter cassette every time a
filter is exchanged. Wipe the seals with a clean dry cloth as required. Inspect the seals
once a year for drying and cracking, and replace them if necessary.
Filter Cassettes: Inspect filter cassettes for contamination after very use. Wipe with a
clean dry cloth as required.
Clamps: Inspect after every time of usage if found not clipping tightly, replaced it.
Blue Color Suction Pipe: Check the fitment to the nozzle before the sampling start.
Leak Check: Perform an external leak check after every 5 days of inlet usage.
