This presentation is about Gratitude in Islam:
-Teaches children the importance of being grateful for every blessing Allah has given them by comparing their situation to those of less fortunate children around the World.
-Tells the story of Prophet Sulaiman and his famous duaa of Shukur.
1. Lessons from the story
of Luqman the Wise
Part #6:
Gratitude
(Shukr)

3. Imagine this scenario:
You find your mom the perfect
gift for Mother’s Day and you
imagine her reaction:
But instead of the thanks you
expected, she complained
about your gift:
That’s not the gift I
wanted. Why didn’t get
me the bracelet I
wanted? I still don’t
have earrings either…
No doubt you would feel hurt and
confused. Instead of
thanking you, your mom
complained about the things
you DIDN’T give her.
4. Stop complaining and be
thankful:
But we do this all the time with Allah.
He gives us so many things we don’t even ask for, yet
all we do is complain about what he didn’t give us!
Homes
Security
8. I’ll bet you never thought about this:
- Even the buggers in your nose
which are gross and annoying are
Allah’s way of keeping bacteria
and other harmful objects from
entering your body.
The liver is responsible for more than
500 distinct processes. It is so important
that if a person has two-thirds of his or
her liver removed as a result of trauma
or surgery, it will grow back to its original
size in as little as four weeks.
- Your heart doesn’t need a battery
or recharge even though it beats
more than 100,000 times per day!
- Allah just orders it to beat every
second.
- Your lungs continuously
expand and contract-even
when you’re asleep and
don’t need to be recharged
at night.
- Blinking keeps your eyes
from drying out and you
from going blind.
9. This Hadeeth teaches us
how to protect our hearts
from jealousy and instead
feel happy about what we
have been given.
Don’t look at those who
have more…
"Look at those who are below you, and do
not look at those who are above you- so you
do not belittle the blessings you have been
given”
Look at those
who have
less…
10. Story
Time:
Oftentimes those who have the
most wealth and power, feel
like they don’t need Allah
and forget to thank him.
But not in the case of the
powerful man who ever lived
on Earth-Prophet Sulaiman
11. Sulaiman the great
Prophet Sulaiman (AS) inherited the Kingdom
of his father Prophet Dawud.
He was given powers that no human had
ever been given.
He could control the wind! This made him
the first man to travel by air.
He could travel a month’s journey with the
quick blow of the wind.
Suliman could also control the Jinn.
They followed his every command,
including building him a palace like no
other- one that was built on top of water!!
12. He could also understand animals, birds and insects and
could control them.
His army consisted of men, animals and Jinn. This made
him the most powerful man to walk the Earth. He had all
these creatures at his command by Allah’s will.
13. One day, Proand the Antsd his army of men,
Jinn and animals were walking through a
valley on an important mission.
Prophet Sulaiman heard a voice call out in
panic: “Oh Ants, Go back into your homes or
else Sulaiman and his army will shatter you
without realizing it.” The Prophet looked down
and saw a group of ants scattering in many
directions. He smiled to himself, and ordered
his amy to stop and allow the ants to safely
pass.
Suliman and the Ants
Suliman thanked Allah for this miracle he had given
him. He was able to be merciful not just to human kind,
but even to the smallest creatures.
14. P. Suliman appointed his birds with the job of
flying among the lands and bringing him any
news they could gather.
One day, the Prophet’s hud-hud arrived with
news of Balqees, the Queen of Saba. The hud-
hud reported that
Balqees was a wise and powerful leader, who sat
on a great throne, but that she and her people
worshipped the Sun.
Suliman & the Queen of Saba
15. Sulaiman sent the hud-hud back to
Balqees with a letter inviting her to
worship Allah, the Creator, instead
of the Sun, a creation.
Balqees read the letter and
discussed it with her advisors.
They were afraid that King Sulaiman
meant them harm, and not wanting
to start a war with such a powerful
leader, Balqees sent her
messengers to Sulaiman with many
expensive gifts.
16. When Sulaiman saw the gifts, he
became angry and asked the
messengers:
“Are you trying to bribe me? What
Allah has given me is so much better
than your gifts”
He sent the gifts back to Saba and
sent the messengers back to invite
Balqees to come meet with him.
17. The Messengers described the amazing palace and
armies of Sulaiman and advised Balqees to go meet
with him.
Meanwhile Sulaiman had a meeting with all his
soldiers. He asked them all: Which one of you can
bring me her throne before she arrives here??
Sulaiman wanted Balqees to see a miracle before her
own eyes.
A powerful Jinn responded: I’ll bring it to you before
you can blink your eyes!
18. In an instant Balqees’ throne
appeared in front of Suliman.
Balqees arrived after a long journey, and was
amazed when you walked into the palace built on
water.
She was even more amazed when she saw her
throne- the one she left behind- right here in front of
her.
19. She realized there is a great power
in front of her- much greater than
her own. Everything she had in
comparison to what Sulaiman had
was nothing!!
Sulaiman explained to her that all
this power of his and all these
miracles are from the Creator Allah.
Balqees immediately said: “MY
CREATOR, I submit myself to
Suliaman and Allah, the Creator of the
Universe”
When the Queen submitted to
Islam, her entire army submitted
right then and there.
And when she returned back to
her Kingdom, she taughter her
people about Allah and her entire
Kingdom accepted Islam as well.
20. How gratitude changes your brain :
The “feel-good hormone”:
•Strengthens the immune system
•Reduces stress and makes us feel more relaxed
•Foster a greater sense of well-being and calm
•Makes us feel more connected to others and builds social
bonds
•Improves our sleep quality and overall physical health
•Grateful people are less likely to experience anxiety and
depression
•Grateful people are more likely to experience positive emotions
and increased levels of happiness
21. Action Plan:
Every night, instead of counting sheep to
fall asleep, start listing and counting
everything you are thankful
for…everything Allah gave you that day so
many kids around the World do not have.
Thank
you
Allah
22. Story Time: Qarun
Qaroon was from Bani Israel and lived in Egypt during
the time of the evil Firone.
He was the cousin of Prophet Musa (AS).
Qaroon sold out his own people by becoming a spy for
Firone.
He would spy on the people of Bani Israel and report
back to him.
As a result, Firone paid him a lot of money and he
became very rich.
23. The Quran says that Qarun was so rich, he
needed a group of men just to carry the
keys to the vaults of all his treasures.
Instead of thanking Allah for his blessings,
he became arrogant and loved to show off
in front of everyone He held daily parades
to flaunt what he owned and treated people
badly.
Let’s watch the video to see what happened to him
