The Story of Prophet Ibrahim and his his nephew Prophet Lut.
This is the story of young Prophet Ibrahim and his father, the smashing of the idols, the fire that did not burn Ibrahim.
When P. Ibrahim became a prophet, he was tested with his son Ismaeel.
This is the story of the building of the Kabaa and the legacy of the well of zamzam.
2. Allah introduces us to P. Ibrahim as a child living in Babylon (current day Iraq).
His people worshipped the stars and other celestial beings and made idols to
represent them.
In the 1st scene of his story, Ibrahim is speaking to his father Azar, who was one of
the craftsmen who carved and sold idols:
My father, do you take
idols for gods? I see you
and your people in
error.
An innocent child said how he
felt… What the people were
doing didn’t make sense to him.
Young Ibrahim started
questioning who created the sun,
moon and starts and everything.

3. As a young teen, Ibrahim came up with a way to teaching his people about Tawheed without insulting them.
He wanted to make them think and conclude for themselves.
Young Ibrahim demonstrates his intelligence:
But then when the moon went
away, he said
One night during a gathering,
after the sun set, Ibrahim saw the
stars come out:
This is my
Lord
But when the light of the moon shone and the
star could no longer be seen, he said:
My lord has disappeared.
I don’t like those that
disappear!
This is my
Lord
If my Lord doesn’t
guide me, I’ll be from
the lost ones.
So he pointed to the moon:

4. He was saying all this in front of this people to make them
realize that a God can not be a creation that comes and goes
and can be out shone by another creation.
His people didn’t get the hint and kept worshipping the
objects they could see and created with their own hands.
A few hours later,
the sun rose and
shone brightly….
This is my lord.
This is greatest
of all!
But when the sun set, he said:
Allah, I’m innocent of those that associate
others with you. I turn my face to the one
who created the heavens and the Earth and I
never committed shirk!

5. His father spoke harshly and
threatened him.
In the next scene,
young Ibrahim asks his father:
My dear father, why do you
worship things that can’t hear
or see or help you?
I will ask allah to forgive you.
He has always been close to
me.

You want nothing to do with
my Gods, Ibrahim? If you
don’t go away, I’m going to
stone and disown you
6. Making
Connections:
In the story of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.),
the father is a disbeliever, and the
son is a Prophet of Allah.
In the story of Prophet Nuh
(A.S.), the father is a Prophet
of Allah, and the son is a
disbeliever.
7. A group of people entered the place of worship
with plates in their hands.
They placed food in front of the idols and
prayed to them.
Once they were gone, young Ibrahim took a
sledgehammer and started smashing all the idols.
8. Then he placed
the hammer
around the neck
of the largest idol.
What’s wrong with you-
why aren’t you talking?
What’s wrong with you-
why aren’t you eating!
9. Why do you worship what can’t talk
or protect you? They can’t even
protect themselves!
Who did this to our
Gods?
The worshippers entered the temple and saw the destruction
There was that boy Ibrahim.
Bring him and ask him.
Did you do this to our gods?
Ask the big one.
You know they can’t talk.
10. The King of the city- Numrud was notified of
Ibrahim’s behavior. He ordered his soldiers to capture
Ibrahim.
Burn him!!
Make an
example of him!
A large pit was dug just outside the
city and it was lit with a huge fire.
With everyone watching, Ibrahim was
catapulted into it!

11. They plotted an evil plan but Allah saved him.
Allah ordered the fire to be cool and safe - Ibrahim calmly walked out of
the fire untouched. This was a miracle before their eyes but not many
people believed in him- one of the few who believed was his nephew Lut-
who later became a Prophet himself!

12. What’s this god you’re
worshipping?
What does he do?
My God gives life and
death
Before leaving the city, Ibrahim was called into the quarters of King Numrud.
I can do that too…
He summoned two prisoners.
He killed one and released the other.
You are free to go.
I gave that man death,
and I give you life.
13. Ibrahim and a small group
of followers including his
wife Sara and his nephew
Lut, left the city of
Babylon and headed
towards Palestine.
Ok, my Lord raises the sun
from the East. Why don’t
you raise it from the West?
Numrud was
dumbfounded
and had no
answer.
14. P. Ibrahim made duaa that Allah would send him a son to continue his message after he died.
He was married for a long time, but his wife Sara could not have children.
He then married Hajar, who gave him
a son, Ismaeel.
P. Ibrahim and his son Ismaeel
Soon after, Allah tested P. Ibrahim and his wife. Hajar.
He ordered him to take her and baby Ismael to the deserts
of Mecca and leave them there.
15. When they arrived to the location Allah had
pointed out, P. Ibrahim left Hajar and his son with
some food and water and began walking away.
Hajar didn’t know what was going on. Ibrahim, who are you
leaving us with?
Did Allah tell you to do this?
Then Allah will
never abandon us.
As P. Ibrahim walked away, he prayed and that Allah would let
people come to this land from all over the world, and provide them
plenty of fruits.

16. Hajar’s food and water ran out. She knew Allah would
provide for them, if she just put in some effort.
She kept jogging back and forth between the two valleys of
Safa and Marwa, looking for water.
After the 7th time, she saw a gush of water gushing from next
to the feet of her baby… she started trying to gather it and
said “Zummi Zummi” (gather, gather).
This is where the name Zam Zam comes from.
This gush of water continues to flow from the Earth today,
thousands of years after it gushed near Ismaeel’s feet!
17. Soon after, a tribe called Jurhum was travelling in the
desert and saw birds overhead (which indicated water)
When they got closer, they found Hajar and baby
Ismaeel living next to the water of Zamzam.
They agreed to pay her and care for her in return for
sharing the water with them.
Prophet Ibrahim’s duaa was answered.
LOOK AHEAD: Thousands of years later, a baby
would be born to a family from this tribe-
That baby is P. Muhammad (S).
The tribe of Jurhum settled in and built their homes
there … slowly building the 1st community in Mecca.
18. Soon after, Allah allowed P. Ibrahim to return to his wife and and son and live with them in Mecca.
When Ismaeel grew a little older, Allah tested him with the biggest test…
He kept giving him a dream telling him- Sacrifice Ismaeel.
.
P. Ibrahim is tested again…
My dear son, I see in a dream
that I am slaughtering you.
What do you think?
My dear father, do what’s
told. You’ll find me being
patient

19. P. Ibrahim took Ismaeel far away, to fulfill Allah’s command. As they were walking,
shaytan came to him 3 times to convince him to stop, but he kept throwing stones at him.
It is for this reason that millions of Muslims throw stones in
the Jamarat during Hajj- This is a symbol and reminder
that when we do something for Allah, we must be firm and
strong and not allow shaytan to delude us.
20. When they got to the place of sacrifice,
Ibrahim placed Ismaeel face down and
was about to slaughter him, when Allah
cried out :
We remember this true story of
submission every Eid Al-Adha. It
is a symbol of sacrificing our time,
money, desires, egos for the
pleasure of Allah.
Ibrahim! You have passed the
test. Here is a ram to slaughter.
Jibreel brought down a ram
and it was slaughtered by
father and son, then shared
with the poor and needy.

Angel Jibreel brought them a rock from Jenna- the
black rock- and they placed it in one of the corners.
It helps us distinguish a corner so we know where to
start when we make tawaf.
This rock doesn’t hurt nor benefit us, but it was from a special place
22. Because of Prophet Ibrahim’s duaa, people from all over the
World flocked to Mecca…
Every minute of every day, millions of people, for thousands of
years, people have been walking make Tawaf around the Kaaba,
and going between Safa and Marwa… honoring the obedience
Ibrahim, Ismaeel and Hajar.
We are all one Umma, we speak
different languages and but we all speak
the same language of Islam.
23. This connects us to
the story of his
nephew P. Lut (AS):
Around 14 years later, P. Ibrahim
received 3 interesting guests…
30. After the people of Lut were destroyed,
Prophet Ibrahim’s son Ishaq was born.
Prophet Ibrahim’s wife Sarah had a son, just as
the Angels had reported.
That son was Prophet Ishaq.
Ishaq got married and had a son named Yaqub,
who also became a great Prophet.
Yaqub got married and had a son named Yusuf,
who also became a great Prophet.
We will discuss these Prophets of Bani Israel in
the next lessons.
Ibrahim
Sarah Hajar
Ishaq Ismaeel
Yaqoub
Yusuf
Muhammad (S)
31. Burial Place of Ibrahim
(A.S.):
Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) is buried in a village called
Hebron, (Al Khaleel), Palestine, along with his son
Ishaq (A.S.), his grandson Yaqoob (A.S.) and Yusuf (A.S.).
The graves of all these Prophets are located
under Masjid Al-Khaleel, also called Masjid
Ibrahim.
