Luqman was a very wise man, mentioned in the Quran, with a Surah named after him. One of Luqman's advices to his son was to not commit Shirk. This presentation explains the difference between major shirk and minor shirk and gives examples. 2. Luqman was a wise & pious man
mentioned in the Quran and has a
Surah named after him.
He was born during
the time of P.
Dawood and lived in
Egypt.
People used to go to him
when seeking knowledge..

3. One day his Master asked to him to slaughter a sheep and
bring him the best part of it.
So Luqman slaughtered the sheep and brought back the
heart and the tongue.
The next day, the Master gave him another sheep and asked
him to bring back the worst part of the sheep.
He brought back the heart and the tongue again.
When his master asked about it, he replied:
Luqman used to be a slave
The tongue and heart can be the most beautiful
AND the worst part of you based on how you
used them.

ADVICE #1:

5. Look at religions that have
multiple Gods - Their
stories are always about
Gods fighting for power.
It’s only natural that
anytime you have 2 people, or 2 nations, or 2
warriors of equal power, there will be conflict.
A school doesn’t have 2 principals.
A country doesn’t have 2 Presidents.
Imagine the chaos in the Universe if there was
more than one God!
A God is all powerful and
does not need any assistants

6. Surah Ikhlas came down
because the bedoins of
Mecca asked the Prophet
what Allah was made of…
It was hard for them to understand a
God unlike their idols.
So Allah (S) sent down Surat Al- Ikhlas.
He told the Prophet how to respond to
these questions.
“Tell us about your God? Is
he made of gold, silver,
wood? What is his lineage?”

8. Prophet said: “Im not worried my people will
worship idols- I’m worried they will be taken by this
world and it will destroy them like it destroyed the
people before them”
The Prophet was worried about MINOR SHIRK
We don’t worship Idols.
We don’t worship Jesus.
How does this apply to me?

9. Be aware of your intentions!
Minor shirk can be as hidden as a
black ant on a black rock on a
black night.
Why am I
doing this?

10. Minor shirk is to change your
intention for others besides allah.
That’s called RIYA- showing off.
Doing this all the time makes you a
hypocrite.
Stand to pray, someone is looking, so you
beautify the prayer- make it a little longer.

● Someone who donates money in front of the people so they can call him
generous, but does not donate in secret.
Make sure you do good deeds behind closed
doors where nobody can see you- to make sure
you are doing it for the right reasons.

12. A famous scholar once said:
“Imagine of our sins had a smell…
Everyone around us would flee from us.”
What a mercy that Allah hides our
sins and gives us time to repent.
Don’t expose yourself!
Just like we
shouldn’t show
off our good
deeds,
we also shouldn’t
expose our sins.

13. Examples of Minor Shirk
If you fear people’s harm
above Allah’s decree:
Believe that nothing can
hurt you or benefit you
unless Allah writes it and
allows it.
"If the whole world were to
gather together in order to
harm you, they wouldn't harm
you except if Allah had written
it."

15. On the Day of Judgment, people will come to
Allah asking for reward for their good deeds.
But they did not do them for
Allah.
They did them for the people
They will not find those good
actions written in their book
of deeds.
Allah will tell them to take their
reward from the people!

16. Examples of Minor Shirk
Being obsessed with
famous
people/actors/bands…..
People go crazy at concerts.
People know an actor’s favorite color, his
pet’s name, when he got his last hair cut,
but know nothing about the Prophets, or
the sahaba- the people who are supposed
to be our role-models in life!!
He touched my hand-I’m
never washing it again
People memorize an actor’s weight and height,
but don’t care to memorize a surah from Allah’s
Book. Allah has been replaced in their
hearts.

17. What do my followers on social media say?
Their opinions of me are all that matter, it’s the
only way I can feel good about myself…
Some people are obsessed over their
Friends’ Opinions/Social Media…
Peoples’ opinions took
the place of Allah’s
opinion

18. Kids are crying because they don’t have the latest
phone…the latest video game…kids walk around with
headphones on all day, music filling their heads 24/7….
They have become slaves to their devices.
This affects their bodies, hearts and minds…
This has taken the place of Allah
in their hearts and minds and
taken all their time.
Some people are obsessed with
Electronics/ Movies/Netflix…..

19. Some people are obsessed with money-
buying things..that’s all you think
about…I need to buy this and that….what’s the
latest fashion, what’s the latest ihphone, what’s
the latest game…. that’s taking the place of
Allah.

21. Islam is Balanced
Everything has to be in balance.
We dress up, we have nice
homes, we have fun, we party,
we watch TV, but we are not
obsessed.
We don’t let it take all our time
or affect our thoughts.
We have a purpose in life.
We aren’t here just to eat drink, watch
TV, have fun, sleep, repeat… then die.
LA ILAHA ILLAH ALLAH means:
When he tells me to do or not to do, he
KNOWS that’s what going to be the
best, so I believe him…I trust him.
