We can learn many lessons from Luqman's advice regarding moderation and humility in attitude, body language and speech.
This presentation covers two stories that deal with arrogance: The story of Prophet Adam and Ibless and the story of Qarun.
3. In these 2 Ayat, Luqman
teaches his son 2 concepts:
1- Stay away from arrogance
2- Be moderate in body language and in
speech
Let’s talk about these topics one at a time.
4. Our Father Prophet
Adam
&
The Story of Iblees
Allah gives many examples in the Quran about arrogance.
Let’s look at two of them:
IBLEES & QAROON
Arrogance:
5. The story of Prophet Adam (AS) begins with the
STORY OF CREATION:
Allah (SWT) was ALWAYS in existence.
The first thing He created was the PEN.
Then he created the Tablet and ordered the pen to
write down everything that will ever exist.
(Even every leaf that falls from every tree was
documented)
(Al-Lawh Al Mahfouz-
The protected tablet)
6. Next, Allah created Water.
Then he created His Throne.
Next came the Heavens and the Earth.
Next came the Angels, which were made of
light, and the Jinn, which were made of fire.
The jinn used to live on Earth and they fought and created wars.
One of those Jinn was exceptionally good, so he was allowed to roam
around with the Angels in Allah’s presence. His name was Iblees.
7. Allah responded:
I’m going to create a
caretaker – a Khalifah-
for the Earth.
The Angels were confused:
One day Allah
announced to
all the Angels:
Are you going to create a creation that will
destroy the Earth and spill blood?
(like the jinn)
While we declare your perfection and
praise you?
I know what
you do not
know.

soul into it.
He ordered the Angels and Iblees to bow down to
honor the amazing creation He created.

He argued with Allah, and disobeyed him with

NO way! I’m better

Think:
How does this relate
to racism?
9. Allah then created a companion for Adam.
Her name was Hawaa (Eve).
Allah told them they could be in Jannah for a
limited time, and eat from anything they
wanted…
Except for one tree.
Ibless found this as an opportunity to get Adam
in trouble.
Day after day he tried to seduce Adam and
Hawa to eat from the tree.
Slowly, he lured them closer and closer, until
they disobeyed Allah.
IF you eat from the tree, you will
turn into Angels!
Then you can live in Jannah
forever!
Let’s just get close
and look at the tree
Let’s just get close and
touch the fruit.
Let’s just sit
under its
shade.
Think:
How does Shaytan slowly
lure us into sin?
10. Adam and Hawa immediately
regretted their disobedience and
asked Allah to forgive them.
Allah forgave them, and soon
after, they sent down to Earth.
Adam and Hawaa Iblees
Got a promotion- lived in Jenna for a while. Angels
did Sajdah to honor his creation.
Got a promotion- lived with the Angels for a while.
Disobeyed Allah but repented and were forgiven. Disobeyed Allah but rebelled and was cursed.
Were sent down to Earth to live and become the new
care-takers until the Day of Judgment.
Was sent down to Earth but chose to lead others
astray until the Day of Judgment.
11. For those that say that coming to Earth was a punishment, the Ayat
we mentioned are proof that placing humans on Earth had always
been Allah’s plan- Adam was not created for Jannah.
He was there temporarily.
He and his offspring were to become the Khulafa of the Earth.
We will all earn Jannah after going through Earth first.
Adam’s story teaches us that as humans, we will all make
mistakes, but the question is HOW we will react after making them.
Will we be like our father Adam and mother Hawaa?
Or will we be like Iblees, who was allowed his jealousy and
arrogance to have him removed from Allah’s presence, and given
the name
“Shaytan- the cursed one”
12. Our 2nd story is that of Qaroon
Qaroon was from Bani Israel and lived in Egypt during
the time of the evil Firone.
He was the cousin of Prophet Musa (AS).
Qaroon sold out his own people by becoming a spy for
Firone.
He would spy on the people of Bani Israel and report
back to him.
As a result, Firone paid him a lot of money and he
became very rich.
13. The Quran says that Qaroon was so rich, he needed a
group of men just to carry the keys to the vaults of all
his treasures. Instead of thanking Allah for his
blessings, he became arrogant and loved to show off in
front of everyone He held daily parades to flaunt what
he owned and treated people badly.
Let’s watch the video to see what happened to him.

“Verily Qaroon was of the people of Moses, but he
oppressed them; and We had given him of the
treasures so much that its keys would have been a
burden to be carried by strong men. Once his people
said to him: ‘Do not show off, for Allah does not love
those who show off.”
15. Body language is a sign of pride. مرحا األرض في تمشي وال
When the Prophet and the Muslims returned victoriously to Mecca for
Fat7, the Prophet was more humble than when he left.
His beard was touching his camel, because of how low he bowed his
head down.
Remember that the Earth is where you came
from, and where you will go back to.
Even physically speaking, our feet are always
stuck to the Earth.
Gravity keeps us lowered to the ground, yet we try
to raise our noses to the sky, forgetting where we
came from.
Humility in Body
Language
16. Humility in attitude when you see everyone around you
as being better than you.
If you see an elder you think to yourself: She has more
good deeds than I do.
If you see a youth you think to yourself: She has less
sins than I do.
If you see someone less religious, you think to yourself:
She has sinned out of ignorance but I have sinned after
knowledge.
Humility in Attitude
17. You may be outspoken and confident but you
don’t always have to make your opinion known.
Leave arguments alone… even if you don’t
agree…
You may have the opportunity to correct
someone or make them look stupid, but you hold
back.
Humility in Speech
A humble Muslim does not speak
extra loudly and disturb others.
A humble Muslim should be soft in
speech.
Allah compares a loud shouting voice
to the bray of a donkey!
18. The Prophet said yes and as omar was sitting the
Prophet moved to sit up straight, and Omar saw that
his side had marks on it from the hard mat he had
been sitting on.
Story Time:
Once Omar (RA) walked into the home of the Prophet (S).
The Prophet was sitting in the corner on the floor
Omar asked: “May I sit with you?
Omar cried and
asked him:
The Prophet responded:
Won’t you accept
that they have this
life, and we have
Jenna?
Why should you, the Prophet of God live
like this when the Kings of the disbelievers
enjoy all the pleasures of life?
Humility in how you
live
