The Pigman By Paul Zindel
¨The Pigman by Paul Zindel is an interesting, mature but good story that most 13 year olds should
read. The story takes place in this weird house filled with many different types of pigs. This quirky
house belongs to Mr. Pignati Angelo on 190 Howard Avenue. John is a gorgeous, playful young man
in his sophomore year who is a bit of an alcoholic. Lorraine is a smart serious sophisticated young
lady who kind of got dragged into the Mr.Pignati thing but, ended up enjoying the experience ( for a
while. She didn t like when he died, and she felt like it was her and John´s fault.) Lorraine felt more
comfortable at his house than at her own. Mr. Pignati Angelo was a fun natured, loving, lonely old
man. He misses his wife and is so excited to have new friends (John and Lorraine.) ... Show more

Lorraine called Mr. Pignati and they started the ¨John and Lorraine foundation¨. John dragged her into
this, and Mr. Pignati gave them money. Ever since then they were all like best friends. John and
Lorraine would ditch school and lie to their parents (none of them had a good relationship with their
family.) They constantly go to the zoo and feed Bobo Mr. Pignati´s favorite monkey. One day they
were at his house and he was up on the staircase and then Mr. pignati had a stroke and fell down. He
was ok, he just ended up in the hospital. It had been a while since Mr. Pinati had gotten hurt, and John
wants to throw a party, at his house. Lorraine isn t too happy about but once again goes along with it.
Well, Mr.Pignati comes home from the hospital early and sees that his pigs have been broken and his
dead wife´s dress had been ripped. He is furious. John and Lorraine feel really bad, so they decide to
take him to the zoo. When they are there they find out Bobo had died. Moments later Mr. Pignati did

Essay about Small Change
Small Change What determines a movement? Malcolm Gladwell defines what pushes a movement to
make a difference. He analyzes the concept of strong ties and weak ties and how these relationships
affect an individual s willpower and determination to help a cause. Gregory Orr puts these ideas into
context in his memoir, Return to Hayneville , in which he recounts his experience and involvement in
the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Malcolm Gladwell s Small Change: Why the Revolution Will
Not Be Tweeted , focuses, in particular, on the civil rights movement concentrates to the lunch counter

emancipations are given a real world setting, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the
importance of living. Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with the
cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not necessarily
because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the movement of sit
ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings
and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this
when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of
that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). When he was released Orr left without
alerting the COFO office because he felt ashamed. It was easy for him to walk away from the cause
for him to walk away from the cause because he as he left he wasn t leaving anything or anyone
behind. Gladwell s explains that weak ties seldom lead to high risk activism (Gladwell, 137). In
Gregory Orr s essay, Return to Hayneville , published by The Virginia Quarterly Review, Orr revisited
the place of his abduction by armed vigilantes in Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even
though the events of this essay take place in 1965, for Orr it started with the death of his younger
brother in a hunting accident when Orr was

Tim Hortons Essay
1 OUR MOTIVATION Tim Hortons has been a symbol of Canada and an important memory for
Canadians. We can understand what an important role Tim Hortons plays by following evidences. Ten
cups of coffee sold in Canada, nearly eight cups are from Tim Hortons. And each year, Tim Hortons
serves 2billion cups of coffee. Moreover, there are 15% of Canadians, which is more than 5.3 million
people, visiting Tim Hortons every day. But Taiwanese are unfamiliar with this famous brand

Considering the products they provided, Dunkin Donuts was the toughest and the only rival for Tim
Hortons. Since the market was not yet fully saturated, Tim Hortons did not have to compete with the
other food service which provided different category of foods. Despite the fact that Tim Hortons was a
late mover in the US market, it was reasonable that Tim Hortons believed that with the leading
position in Canada, it could expand its business to the US. 4.4 ENTRY MODE With Ron Joyce s
strategy, Tim Hortons expanded quickly in both geography and product selection. In 1981, it already
had successfully opened almost 150 outlets in Canada, and became the leading chain in Canada. It
even resulted in the major changes to the coffee and donut restaurant market in Canada. Tim Hortons
thus confidently believed that the expanding strategy could fit well even in the US market, where the
geographical distance was close and the culture seemed to be quite similar to that of Canada.
Moreover, most of the popular food service at that time entered a foreign market, especially from the
US to Canada, with a wholly owned subsidiary. Especially when Dunkin donuts and Mister Donuts
brought in the donut culture successfully and McDonald even became one of the leading food service

Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds Analysis
Men have dominated and control the scientific world for decades. Men often thought that they were
the superior sex and that they had a better understanding of science and how to conduct experiments.
Many men regarded women as less superior because they believed that females did not have the
mental capacities and resources to understand how science, nature and the universe works and that
women are too emotional. However, through the founding of the Royal Society by King Charles II
women was slowly allowed to enter the scientific world, conduct their own experiments and published
their own writings. Through plays like the Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds by Bernard le
Bovier de Fontenelle and The Virtuoso by Thomas Shadwell it shows how ... Show more content on

The reason why science was considered a masculine occupation is because many men believed that
the male gender is better at controlling their emotions and separating their emotions from themselves
thus not letting their emotions cloud their judgment. However the common belief about women are
that they are a too emotional creatures who will let their emotions cloud their judgment and reason
thus not providing accurate results in their experimentation. But over time men started to see the
benefits of allowing women in the world of science. Females are better at observing animals and
plants in their natural habitat than males. Females are better at noticing the small details of plants and
classifying them into the different species and genus which made botany the perfect scientific field for
women. This was the first major step in changing the perspective of science as a male dominated field
to a more gender neutral field. Another major step in allowing women to join the science field came
through the plays by Fontenelle and Shadwell who both made their protagonist young women with

Opposing Gun Control with the Right to Bear Arms
The United States Patriot Militia in 1780 was the day of the battle that was the turning point of the
Revolutionary War. These militiamen were normal arms bearing citizens that gave the forward
momentum of our country s development, and without these citizens that stood up for our country, our
life may not be as it is today. The topic of gun control has been controversial for years about how it
causes more violence, more murders, homicides, etc. The main thing that is being fought about is
whether or not gun regulations should be tightened. It is a big controversy whether or not if the law is
made more strict then murders and other violence related to firearms are going to be reduced.
tightening gun regulations will affect none of these things.
The purpose of the Second Amendment is to give people the right to keep and bear arms which is why
this amendment is so important. The Second Amendment states A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed . This is saying that the people have the right to bear arms. People try to point out that it
talks about militia and try to say, well that s the National Guard , but it s not. Every citizen that is able
to yield a firearm is considered to be in the reserve militia (LaCourse). Therefore taking the right to
bear arms away from citizens is depriving them of the ability to do their duty as a citizen. A large
amount of anti gun rights

Congestion and Traffic Pollution in New York City Essay
Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There have
been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the problem.
Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that s causes
traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays
in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic
in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution.
Traffic pollution is polluting of the environment caused by harmful toxins and gases given released by
cars. The amount of pollution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars,
specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic
congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and
pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York City s congestion problem is to decrease the
number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of
transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there
would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would
be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less
inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution.
Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines
for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall
congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to
two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect
route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would
be viable in decreasing

How Social Media Has Changed Today s Society
Social Networking Cassandra Johnson INF/103 Computer Literacy Janet Parr 09/10/2016 There has
been a large growth in technology, communication has grown drastically. It is easier and in most cases
cheaper to communicate with others through the world wide web. If you have family members who
complain about the cost of travel to visit, distance is no longer an excuse for not communicating and
staying in contact with the people you love. In my essay, I will list many ways to communicate with
others on the internet. Here you can share pictures, ideas, text messages, and pictures with many
people at the same time. Social media is very popular in today s society. There are many social media
sites that people use today in order to communicate with others, like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin,
SnapChat, Pinterest, and YouTube to name a few that I use daily. My first article discusses the
relationship between the use of Facebook, which is a very popular online social network. Social
network sites such as Friendster, Cyworld, and Myspace allows individuals to present themselves,
articulate their social networks, and establish connections with others (Lampe, Ellison,

Comparing Song Of Songs And Sappho s Love Poems
Both the Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems stem from the core concept of the overall intimacy
and indescribable nature of love. Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty of nature and
the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific context of love.
The Song of Songs covers what would be today called the honeymoon phase where the love is sweet,
perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side of love, focused on
entrapment, and overall heartbreak. These differences create completely different stories of love, one
of life long happiness, and one of chasing love. The Song of Songs develops a theme of love with its
use of naturalistic comparisons. Throughout the song, both the bride and bridegroom ... Show more

Allusions to the environment are also present in Sappho s love poems, in fact, using many of the same
comparisons used in the Song of Songs, seemingly for the same purpose; to paint a picture of love.
Under the surface though, Sappho is painting a beautiful picture of love to win over the help of
Aphrodite to help satisfy her need for a fulfilling love, as is a common theme in her poems. Present in
both Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems, is the comparison of the rushing feeling of love to a
stream of water, a protective, but fruitful apple tree, all placed within a pleasant garden. The stream in
the Song of Songs is a spring shut up (132), representing a love that wishes to flow/be consummated,
but ultimately cannot because of societal limitations, whereas

Spread Of Buddhism Dbq Essay
In the sixth century B.C.E., the religion of Buddhism was founded in India. Seven centuries later, the
religion would find itself arriving in China in the midst of the Han Dynasty. In China, there were
many different views of the religion as it arrived and spread throughout the country. There were two
main responses to the religion. One response was that Buddhism could stand alongside other Chinese
religions and philosophies such as Confucianism, as it could do a lot of good for China; while another
view was that Buddhism had no place in China, as it came from foreign people and was barbaric,
stealing from the Chinese. One prominent response to Buddhism as it spread was that it was a good

Much of the people living within China are undoubtedly worried about this. So, this document shows
one way of how Buddhism was received, as a saving grace that could spare people from the fear of the
nomads. If they do believe and follow the ways of the Buddha, then they will have salvation. The
scholar likely wrote this as a way to help quell and fear in people s hearts, whether it be his own, or
those of strangers. The Buddha himself agrees with the notion that Buddhism helps conquer fear, as
can be seen in one of his sermons eight centuries earlier. In the sermon, he lays out the Four Noble

pleasures is sorrow, that sorrow arises from cravings which we have, including the craving for power
and the craving for a prolonged life. He goes on to say that the only way to end this suffering, to be
enlightened and reach nirvana is by ending these sorrows (Doc. 1). Buddhism lays out a path to end

The Ever Changing Definition Of Home
The Ever Changing Definition of Home (change title)
I guess one might call it naivete, but at first, I simply associated home with the single definition of
where an individual lived or as something synonymous to an address. As I progressed into high
school, and moved yet once again, I realized that was not the case. Now I believe home is an
atmosphere created by the people that are surrounding me. I can be anywhere and feel at home as long
as I m with those people. My home is ever changing and developing as new people come in and out of
my life. The unforgettable memories and feelings of comfort and love created by the people
surrounding me are the cornerstone of my idea of home.
My house was teepeed or toilet papered during my last week in California. My older sister and I both
woke up disoriented, to our dog barking. We sleeply opened the front door assuming he had to pee,
but when we stepped out of the house we saw white. There were countless rolls of toilet paper hanging
from the countless number of trees. We stood there stunned. Already frazzled, I remembered how my
mom had warned us that if we wanted to get our security deposit returned on our rented house, the
house would have to be in tip top condition for the inspection. Our house had never been t ped before.
Why did it have to be tped the day of the inspection?
Our backyard was huge, so I marveled at the amount of time, effort, and toilet paper the pranksters
had exhausted to cover the large ground stretching

Operation Desert Storm or the First Iraqi War was a very cooperative

the innocent people of Kuwait and

And the controversy began to take place on whether any
mistakes on his policy were the result of the war breaking out in the first place. Throughout the 1980 s
America continuously kept an eye on Saddam Hussein on the long war of Iraq and Iran. The Reagan

management. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our private

being and acting independently. Then we learn how to move to the more advanced state of
interdependence and successful Cooperation. As a part of the seven habits, Covey introduced
important and powerful techniques of time management under the habit of Put First Things First. ...

Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose in
detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven into a
diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the diagram, one is
reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into thirteen pieces, with
the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the picture as a whole, as well
as seeing the development from dependence to independence to interdependence. The first three
habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to the final four steps, which include public

Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches
Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and
inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the
House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four
weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House
of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior
to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian
people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect
Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving
thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to
the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it
would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly
highlighted the urgent need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from
France. In the speech, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as Churchill presumed perhaps 20,000 or 30,000 men might be re embarked. However, this was not
the case, for there was a successful evacuation of Dunkirk through the stout efforts of the Royal Air

Why Soccer Is Important To Me
The reason soccer is important to me is because it is the hobby i joined to win. So when I m bored I
would go outside and play soccer and call my brother to play. I really like soccer, so I spent a lot of
time playing it outside on the yard. When I play soccer I fell like I m so happy and I get excited when
I get some goals. When I got the first goal, I got so excited I couldn t believe it, and I just had a smile
all day. While I was looking up videos of soccer, I figured out that the soccer players win a lot of
money. So if I become a soccer player I could win a lot of money and at the same time I could have
fun with my favorite hobby. Now that I always play soccer when I get goals in I still get excited and it
will help our team with points.

ABSTRACT: Nowadays every energy system depends on conventional energy sources but the low
availability and high initial cost usage of renewable energy is used to generate the electricity but there
are many renewable energy sources but in that wind energy is considered and proved as one of the
best reliable energy which is capable for generating electricity by lower costs and this come under
wind energy conversion and there are two types they are stand alone wind energy and grid connected
as wind flow by nature is irregular so storage systems are used as backup for continuous flow of
energy and the sustainability of 4 KW hybrid wind and battery system is investigated to reach the
requirements of 3KW stand alone dc load in a telecom station. The charging and discharging of
battery is controlled by ensuring a charge control of battery bank based on turbine maximum power
tracking and charging state of battery is developed. The pitch control is used as assurance for
mechanical safety for WECS. The Control schemes are tested by using MATLAB.

The Treatment Prospects For Schizophrenia
The Treatment Prospects for Schizophrenia
Cecilia Pivarunas
Northern Virginia Community College
Abstract
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that can present in many different ways. Most often, symptoms
display in a negative or positive manner. While medications are on the market to mitigate symptoms,
the optimal treatment method couples both pharmaceutical and psychiatric rehabilitation. The Patient
Outcomes Research Team, commonly called PORT, has issued treatment recommendations for
Schizophrenia. The first publication, issued in 1998, has offered compiled research in the realm of
Schizophrenia. The following paper will discuss the treatment options for Schizophrenia to reflect the
2003 guidelines of the PORT publication.
Keywords: Schizophrenia, Updated treatment, Recommendations
The Treatment Prospects for Schizophrenia
In the DSM 5, Schizophrenia is termed as having both positive and negative symptoms. Positive
symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech (American Psychiatric
Association, 2013). Negative symptoms, on the other hand, are anhedonia and depression. Anhedonia
is the inability to gain pleasure from seemingly pleasurable experiences. The threshold for DSM 5
indicates that a person must show two or more symptoms to be considered Schizophrenic. The patient
must display symptoms for a minimum of six months. A publication by Stephen Erhart, Stephen
Marder and William Carpenter discusses the treatment of Schizophrenia (Erhart et al.,

Death Of A Salesman Character Analysis Essay
In the very first part of Act I of the play Death of a Salesman , the reader gets to know the main
characters of the play, especially how they behave, their personality and, even if very implicitly, the
writer makes some of the character s feelings to transpire. Therefore, Willy, which is old and very
dreamy, can be considered as the character whose everything turns around him and, even if at first he
seems very grumpy, the reader, later on in the play, gets to know that he is very affectionate to his
family. In this first part of the first Act, Willy comes back home and, during a conversation with his
wife, he confesses to having smashed the car again because he was busy admiring the landscapes.

Biff, instead, is very happy and proud of what he is doing, however by working in a farm he
disappointed most of the people he knows that wanted him to be a businessman, Willy included.
Therefore, the main theme developed in this first part of the first Act of the play is prototyping, which
is totally understandable and normal for the period the play is settled in, that is the American Dream.
Consequently, every single character in this first part of Death of a Salesman , finds himself to fight
against the prototypes that the society, during those years, was trying to impose to them. This theme is
clearly expressed by the characters of Happy and Biff, and at times by Willy as well: they are all
trying to be happy themselves, but at the same time to respect and satisfy what the society whats them
to be, and so, therefore, to be the prototype of a young American man living during the era of the
American dream. Happy, for example, during a talk he has with his brother, express all his
disappointment in seeing that he is exactly what everyone wants and expects him to be, however, even

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis
During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to
promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay
attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed
pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an
ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses
various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of
the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start
working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that
they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is
just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them
a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on
the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state
and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the
author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal.
Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the
economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that
he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is
proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled
to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should
be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals.
Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of
children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises
that healthy and nourished kids could be

Cholesterol is a soft, fat like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body s cells. It s
normal to have cholesterol. It s an important part of a healthy body because it s used for producing cell
membranes and some hormones, and serves other needed bodily functions. But too high a level of
cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack. It s also
a risk factor for stroke. Hypercholesterolemia is the term for high levels of blood cholesterol. You get

cholesterol level of 240 mg/dL have twice the risk of heart attack as people whose cholesterol level is
200 mg/dL. You need more tests. Ask your doctor for advice. About 20 percent of the U.S. population

The Reasons For The Europeans Voyage Of Exploration At The...
The reason for the Europeans voyage of exploration at the end of the Sixteenth Century was because
in the past ages the Europeans thought that the earth was flat. In the exploration of the world they had
known the world to be the Age of Discovery . They only knew about the land that was close to their
home and country. They wanted to explore the world by sea so that could search for new trading
partners, new goods, and new trading routes. The major differences among the colonists in the
Chesapeake, Middle Colonies, and New England were there governance, economy, social structure,
and the American Indians. In the Chesapeake, Virginia was governed by a royal charter until 1624 and
Maryland was a proprietary colony which gave the Calvert all the right to appoint governors and also
control the government. Economically, Virginia and Maryland big cash crop between the two states
were tobacco. Social structure minority consisted of mostly free men and women, as the majority
consisted of laborers and servants, which they became free after a certain period of time. Around the
1700s slaves had become a wide proportion of the southern population. The social and political was
very much similar to England. The American Indians in the 1640, being a native population in
Virginia decreased from 20,000 to 10,000. By 1670s only about a dozen tribes and 2,000 Native
American remained in the colony. In the Middle Colonies, they experience a lot of diversity in their

Loyalty In Macbeth
The Tragedy of Macbeth is a play by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. William
Shakespeare s plays are known for his character s dramatic aspects and how they are portrayed in the
play towards the reader or onlooker. Macbeth illustrates importance of Kingship and Natural Order. In
Macbeth the notion of honor is of one s word and loyalty to one s superior, in this case the king, King
Duncan. Despite of this, Macbeth displays defective relationships that loyalty is essential to the
relationship. By killing his comrade and friend, Banquo, Macbeth shows that he is untrustworthy and
his egocentric mind. By killing his king and relative, Duncan, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth reveal their
ambitiousness toward the hierarchy. Upon hearing the report of Macbeth becoming the Thane of

The Problem Of Chest Pain
Since most people in our society consider chest pain to be of a cardiac origin, pediatric chest pain can
not only be scary the child, but can also cause anxiety for the parents due to the fear of their child s
condition. Luckily, many causes of chest pain are usually benign and rarely can be a sign of cardiac
disease. With this in mind, providers should complete a preliminary evaluation for chest pain, decide
on differential diagnoses, and than develop an appropriate plan. Providers should also be aware of the
most likely causes of chest pain in children, which include reactive airway disease, musculoskeletal
pain, esophagitis, gastritis, and functional pain (Hay, Levin, Deterding, Abzug, 2014). Will all of those
in mind, by far the most common cause in children is chest pain from a musculoskeletal injury. The
initial evaluation should include a detailed history and physical examination to help guide the provider
to the proper workup, and rarely is there a need for laboratory tests or evaluation by a specialist (Hay,
Levin, Deterding, Abzug, 2014). First finding out when the pain started, last month, last year, and so
forth, will be of high importance, then once a time frame is establish, details about the most recent
episode should be obtained. The provider should ask how long the pain lasted, what made it
better, made it worse, and then move on to what brought on the pain, with arm movement, breathing,
dizziness, particular activity and so forth. Once the cause

A Critical Analysis of the Effects of Chemical Castration and Physical Castration on the Recidivism
Rates of Sex Offenders
Introduction
This paper examines the effects of chemical castration and physical castration on the recidivism rates
of sex offenders.
Using theory integration or the multifactor approach, the findings reveal there are several factors
influencing sex offender recidivism. Both chemical castration and physical castration have the
potential to reduce the recidivism rates of sex offenders by lowering testosterone levels, diminishing
sexual urges, and making sexual urges more controllable if the sexual urges are motivated by
increased testosterone levels. Based on theory integration, most sex offences ... Show more content on

Chemical castration has been studied for the last twenty five years, however, due to the newness of
legislation in the
United States, there have not been many long term research projects involving the effectiveness of
chemical castration in reducing sex offender recidivism rates completed in the United States.
However, one such study by Meyer, Cole, and Emory published in 1997 looks promising. The study
compared recidivism rates of 40 convicted sex offenders treated over a period of years with
medroxyprogesterone and psychotherapy, with recidivism rates of offenders who refused
medroxyprogesterone therapy but received psychotherapy and found that only 18% receiving
medroxyprogesterone re offended, while 35% of those not receiving therapy re offended. Physical or
surgical castration is the removal of the testes and replacement with prostheses in order to reduce
testosterone production, therefore, diminishing sexual urges and making behavior more controllable.
Sex offenders can opt to have surgical castration; however, it is not mandated by state legislatures in
the United States. As with chemical castration, there has not been extensive or long term research on
the use of surgical castration to reduce the recidivism rates of sex offenders in the United States.
According to Robert Prentky (1997), surgically castrated sex offenders show significantly improved
recidivism rates as

Theme Of Identity In The Absolutely True Diary Of A...
Many times in life, difficult decisions have to be made regarding one s future. It is difficult for people
to find a balance between pursuing their dreams and remaining true to themselves and those they care
about. This struggle is commonly evident when one is caught between two cultures. These cultures
often include a level of loyalty that is hard to break, but is necessary in the pursuit of dreams and
potential. My mom felt this struggle in her life between her mexican heritage and her decision to move
to America. She struggled with deciding to leave her home and those she loved, however when she did
she found a greater sense of self and new opportunities. To this day she feels loyalty to her mexican
heritage and remains a citizen of Mexico to demonstrate her patriotism. She found a greater identity
between the two cultures. In Sherman Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian the
protagonist, Junior, experiences an internal struggle between his loyalty to his tribe and his desire to
leave and pursue his future. Junior s internal conflict enhances the theme of identity by demonstrating
how even after leaving the reservation, he remained true to his roots while developing his sense of
self. The internal conflict that Junior faces with leaving his tribe to pursue his future at Reardan adds
to the discovery of his identity. The reservation was both heaven and hell for Junior although he felt a

However; I was under on all of the other food groups such as grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy and oils.
This may have something to do with the number of calories that were consumed within that two day
period. This report was based on a 2400 calorie allowance and the number of calories that I consumed
was 934 calories short of that allowance. The report also seems to be based on a full week so that
could have also played a role in the food groups not being met. The number of grains that were

grains. I was given at least three cups of vegetables and I did not consume any dark green, red, orange,

Consumerism In Willy Mink
The most extreme form of submission to the new order of society, centered around objects and waves
and radiation (DeLillo 1) is Mink, who represents the epitome of consumerism culture. The
description of Mink by Lentricchia on page 113 covers the descriptions of the novel perfectly. Sitting
in front of the TV, throwing fistfuls of Dylar at his mouth, babbling, Willy Mink is a compacted image
of consumerism in the society of electronic media, a figure of madness, but our figure of madness. At
the same time the author reveals an additional fact about DeLillo s piece, specifically that it is relevant
to our day and age and not a science fiction novel, but rather a cutting depiction of contemporary life.
The next analysis stems from the scene in which Jack attempts to kill Mink for providing his wife with

Dominating and (almost) destroying a man who simply isn t there, or whose own self is thoroughly

tendencies is the transformation of person into intangible data waves, thus not only embracing media
culture, but being a medium of it. As Jack describes it, He was watching TV without the sound.
(DeLillo 305) The sound is transported from or through Mink as opposed to the television blaring it
out, which shows his deep involvement with the television. He also cannot be described by Jack,
which means that he is of another species essentially, no longer earthly, but rather a superiority. Also,
by the fact that Jack is unable to murder him and Mink s deep involvement, DeLillo points out the

good for a learning experience, but it also could have a negative experience as well. This is no
different for police with body worn cameras, since there is always will be pros and cons when dealing
with devices like video cameras. As technology grows so does the idea of using the technology in the
law enforcement field. There are many pros to having cameras, some of these would be to minimize
complaints, false accusations increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this years time frame, the study found that citizens complaints went for .07 per thousand contacts
without the use of cameras to 0.07 per thousand contacts with the use of cameras (Ariel, Farrar,
Sutherland, 2015). The study shows that police worn body cameras can be a good solution to a
growing problem of citizens complaints.
False Accusations Increase Accountability
One of the ideas behind the cameras is to help with false accusations made against law enforcement. A
problem that police deal with is the accusations that police stick together, therefore it is the perception
that law enforcement will not go against another officer s word. No one is perfect, therefore I am sure
that this has happened before, although the idea of the camera is to show the public that no one is
above the law. Implementing these cameras will help by adopting an objective, transparent monitoring
system that allows us to defend those unjustly accused and correct or punish those caught abusing
their power, we can prove to the public we believe no person should be above the law, particularly
those sworn to uphold it (New York Times, 2013). This will put more pressure on the police officer,
but at the same time it will increase their accountability by making them more aware of their
surroundings when a situation may occur.
Provide Valuable Evidence Another important factor in the police worn camera is the valuable
evidence that is provided

Smoking Is Bad For The Body
Did you know that three out of four teens in high school admit to doing or being addicted to drugs? A
majority of the teenagers today will more than likely face short or long term health issues from the
usage of drugs, preferably marijuana. What kind of short and long term health issues you may ask?
Well short term health issues would include drowsiness/relaxation; slowed reaction time; problems
with balance and coordination; increased heart rate and appetite; problems with learning and memory;
hallucinations; anxiety and panic attacks! On the other hand we have long term health issues which
include mental health problems, chronic cough, frequent respiratory infections. Smoking weed is a
problem among teenagers today that tend to take on health issues in the body such as danger to the
adolescent brain, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, lung irritation and reproduction effects. One reason
smoking weed is bad for the body is because it causes damage to the adolescent brain. The brain is the
command center of you body. It weighs about three pounds and has different centers or systems that
process different kinds of information. THC in marijuana affects the way that sensory information is
processed. THC is up to no good in the brain. THC finds brain cells, or neurons, with specific kinds of
receptors called cannabinoid receptors. Then, it binds to those receptors (Elaine Gottlleb, 2016).
Certain parts of the brain have high concentrations of cannabinoid receptors. These

Transcontinental Railroad Thesis
Around the 1840 s, the western land was still fairy new to America with many Americans eager to
expand. Americans became extremely curious, wondering what lies in this forsaken land and
developed the proposal of manifest destiny. The term manifest destiny was a brief way to express
support for American expansion and the annexation of western lands (Mountjoy 12). Americans were
now longing for a path from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast and hoping to fulfill manifest destiny. To
achieve this Asa Whitney proposes the construction of a transcontinental railroad (Streissguth 9). The
transcontinental railroad was designed to link Omaha, Nebraska with Sacramento, California (Stein
105). By creating the transcontinental railroad America would be able to expand across the entire
country and manifest destiny would be fulfilled. After a long process On May 10, 1869 the
transcontinental railroad was complete (Bain 9). Americans had access across the entire United States
and was able to complete manifest destiny. This accomplishment was huge for America and provided
happiness for an abundance of citizens. However, this happiness was not achieved by everyone. Plains
Indians were very agitated upon the completion of the transcontinental railroad. The transcontinental
railroad s tracks ran through a number of tribal territories, bringing into conflict cultures that held very
different views of the land and how it might be used and lived on (Jawort). How were Plains Indians

(Walmart, 2012) The company announced a $750 million, 73 store expansion plan in early 2012. A.
Country Competitiveness A large multinational company such as Walmart experiences different
opportunities and challenges in the countries in which it does business. Walmart being the largest
retailer in the world, must adapt to varying business environments. Canada s competitiveness relative
to Walmart s expansion is viewed through Porter s diamond framework. Country Level Determinants
The passage of NAFTA represented an enticing opportunity for Walmart to capitalize on the discount
store industry, of which only Zellers and K Mart had a presence in. NAFTA also paved the road for
Walmart s expansion into Canada. The agreement had the intention of creating job and economic
growth as well as eliminating tariffs and controls on goods transported amongst the three countries.
This phenomenon of internationalization created openness and capability for Walmart to capitalize on
goods production in one country, followed by movement and sales in the other. Moreover, currency
valuation in present day represents an opportunity for retailers to expand into the Canadian market.
Due to the strong Canadian dollar, the economic conditions are enticing for any retailer looking to
expand a key reason why Target has transitioned into the market. At the time of acquisition,
Woolworth took ownership of the $45 million

Introducing Active Learning in the Classroom
More teachers should introduce active learning into their classrooms in order to reduce their rate of
job burn out and better connect with students. Burn out is physical and emotional fatigue resulting
from persistent frustration. It can cause a lack of motivation and eventually forces people to leave their
current jobs. In the case of teachers, it is especially important to recognize this burn out because it not
only affects instructors but also their students. Studies show that burned out people experience
emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment (Evers, W.
G., Tomic, W., 2003). These studies bring up the point that burn out is both physical and mental
describing emotional fatigue, depersonalization, and limited personal achievement. These effects do
not mesh well with the traditional characteristics expected in a teacher. In fact, burn out contributes to
student apathy in many cases. The problem becomes that most burn out studies lack actual proof of
the relationship between the stressors and health concerns. The studies I looked at attempted to solve
this problem and establish these connections in order to find a workable solution. Main Issues The
process of keeping formerly qualified teachers instructing is stated to as retention. The loss of these
teachers is called attrition (Dolan, A., 2008). Policies instituted by the administration at many schools
influence attrition in different ways (Smith, M., 2012). Teachers

Gladwell describes the movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). • 8. Opposing Gun Control with the Right to Bear Arms The United States Patriot Militia in 1780 was the day of the battle that was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. These militiamen were normal arms bearing citizens that gave the forward momentum of our country s development, and without these citizens that stood up for our country, our life may not be as it is today. The topic of gun control has been controversial for years about how it causes more violence, more murders, homicides, etc. The main thing that is being fought about is whether or not gun regulations should be tightened. It is a big controversy whether or not if the law is made more strict then murders and other violence related to firearms are going to be reduced. tightening gun regulations will affect none of these things. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to give people the right to keep and bear arms which is why this amendment is so important. The Second Amendment states A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed . This is saying that the people have the right to bear arms. People try to point out that it talks about militia and try to say, well that s the National Guard , but it s not. Every citizen that is able to yield a firearm is considered to be in the reserve militia (LaCourse). Therefore taking the right to bear arms away from citizens is depriving them of the ability to do their duty as a citizen. A large amount of anti gun rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York City s congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. One response was that Buddhism could stand alongside other Chinese religions and philosophies such as Confucianism, as it could do a lot of good for China; while another view was that Buddhism had no place in China, as it came from foreign people and was barbaric, stealing from the Chinese. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of leadership over other leaders. Often I see these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a difficult situation. They see only a win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s section on win/win and seeing outside the box. Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. However, many discarded them and did not pay attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal. Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals. Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises that healthy and nourished kids could be ... A problem that police deal with is the accusations that police stick together, therefore it is the perception that law enforcement will not go against another officer s word. No one is perfect, therefore I am sure that this has happened before, although the idea of the camera is to show the public that no one is above the law. Implementing these cameras will help by adopting an objective, transparent monitoring system that allows us to defend those unjustly accused and correct or punish those caught abusing their power, we can prove to the public we believe no person should be above the law, particularly those sworn to uphold it (New York Times, 2013). This will put more pressure on the police officer, but at the same time it will increase their accountability by making them more aware of their surroundings when a situation may occur. • 43. Transcontinental Railroad Thesis Around the 1840 s, the western land was still fairy new to America with many Americans eager to expand. Americans became extremely curious, wondering what lies in this forsaken land and developed the proposal of manifest destiny. The term manifest destiny was a brief way to express support for American expansion and the annexation of western lands (Mountjoy 12). Americans were now longing for a path from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast and hoping to fulfill manifest destiny. To achieve this Asa Whitney proposes the construction of a transcontinental railroad (Streissguth 9). The transcontinental railroad was designed to link Omaha, Nebraska with Sacramento, California (Stein 105). By creating the transcontinental railroad America would be able to expand across the entire country and manifest destiny would be fulfilled. After a long process On May 10, 1869 the transcontinental railroad was complete (Bain 9). Americans had access across the entire United States and was able to complete manifest destiny. This accomplishment was huge for America and provided happiness for an abundance of citizens. However, this happiness was not achieved by everyone. Plains Indians were very agitated upon the completion of the transcontinental railroad. The transcontinental railroad s tracks ran through a number of tribal territories, bringing into conflict cultures that held very different views of the land and how it might be used and lived on (Jawort). (Walmart, 2012) The company announced a $750 million, 73 store expansion plan in early 2012. A. Country Competitiveness A large multinational company such as Walmart experiences different opportunities and challenges in the countries in which it does business. Walmart being the largest retailer in the world, must adapt to varying business environments. Canada s competitiveness relative to Walmart s expansion is viewed through Porter s diamond framework. Country Level Determinants The passage of NAFTA represented an enticing opportunity for Walmart to capitalize on the discount store industry, of which only Zellers and K Mart had a presence in. NAFTA also paved the road for Walmart s expansion into Canada. The agreement had the intention of creating job and economic growth as well as eliminating tariffs and controls on goods transported amongst the three countries. This phenomenon of internationalization created openness and capability for Walmart to capitalize on goods production in one country, followed by movement and sales in the other. Moreover, currency valuation in present day represents an opportunity for retailers to expand into the Canadian market. Due to the strong Canadian dollar, the economic conditions are enticing for any retailer looking to expand a key reason why Target has transitioned into the market. • 45. Introducing Active Learning in the Classroom More teachers should introduce active learning into their classrooms in order to reduce their rate of job burn out and better connect with students. Burn out is physical and emotional fatigue resulting from persistent frustration. It can cause a lack of motivation and eventually forces people to leave their current jobs. In the case of teachers, it is especially important to recognize this burn out because it not only affects instructors but also their students. Studies show that burned out people experience emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment (Evers, W. G., Tomic, W., 2003). These studies bring up the point that burn out is both physical and mental describing emotional fatigue, depersonalization, and limited personal achievement. These effects do not mesh well with the traditional characteristics expected in a teacher. In fact, burn out contributes to student apathy in many cases. The problem becomes that most burn out studies lack actual proof of the relationship between the stressors and health concerns. The studies I looked at attempted to solve this problem and establish these connections in order to find a workable solution. Main Issues The process of keeping formerly qualified teachers instructing is stated to as retention. The loss of these teachers is called attrition (Dolan, A., 2008). Policies instituted by the administration at many schools influence attrition in different ways (Smith, M., 2012). Teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
