Teaching Paradigms Technology promotes innovation Online courses must have the same standards but also have their own set of issues to consider and principles to guide online course development.
Teacher Education Teachers need training before developing/teaching online Taking online courses often best way to become familiar with online learning. Administrative duties also different
It Takes a Team Faculty need to be supported, encouraged and motivated to build sound online courses In addition to teachers, IT experts, web designers, media developers, graphic designers, instructional designers and admin assistants all can play key roles in developing effective online courses.
Role of the Instructional Designer Use the ADDIE model Encourage appropriate pedagogical strategies Create/adapt instructional resources Create/sequence learning outcomes Evaluates instruction
Role of the Web Developer Help the faculty buy in by providing examples and exuding confidence Developing templates to maintain consistency and ease of use. May take on a variety of other roles as well.
Role of the Graphic Designer Graphic development issues often take the most time Graphics often set the tone  Challenge of creating a uniqueness while also working within a template
Role of the Programmer & Multimedia Author Responsible for program functionality Programming can be a very specialized area Code-based programming or GUI authoring
Conclusions Online course development takes extensive planning and collaboration Pedagogical standards must remain high
