The document discusses methods for analyzing high volume stormwater events using low impact development (LID) techniques compared to traditional detention basins. It describes a case study methodology using a 200 acre site to model pre-development conditions and post-development scenarios with traditional detention and LID controls. The results show LID techniques like flow-through planters and dispersion can control peak flows as well as traditional detention but use less land and provide better water quality benefits. LID is concluded to provide meaningful flood control and quantifiable benefits for development projects.

Aquifer tests are probably the most widely used methods to obtain hydrogeological properties that are vital for any mine dewatering or environmental impact assessments. Numerous softwares and methods currently exist that provide quick and easy tests interpretation by fitting theoretical and measured drawdown curves. However, misinterpreting a-priory groundwater concepts and not accounting correctly for such factors as skin-effect, well storage or partial penetration may result in hydraulic conductivity errors by several hundred precents. As illustrated by case studies from WA, both numerical and analytical models generally suffer from non-uniqueness that can be overcome by understanding a-priory groundwater concepts and implementing them appropriately into the interpretation algorithms.
The presentation also discusses an analytical approach for well systems design. The methodology is presently incorporated in ANSDIMAT software package that is developed by the Russian Academy of Sciences. The method uses standard and research analytical solutions and it is based on the principle of superposition. Unlike numerical models, the method allows calculating drawdowns inside a pumping well and regional drawdowns, for example, on an open pit contour. A particle tracking component, incorporated into the methodology, provides a practical alternative to numerical models for simplified environmental impact assessments.

This presentation is a talk given at the 14 November Philadelphia area AIChE meeting. Chemical engineers, especially those in the US, are increasingly being asked to develop incremental increases in plant capacity, say up to 20%. Many plants are now running at maximum capacity, yet tight capital funding and requirements for short payback periods make it difficult to have large investment for new, grassroots facilities. In some cases, engineers need to meet demand increments much less than the capacity of a new plant, while further demand growth is uncertain. The manufacturer must then choose the appropriate capacity increment, instead of overdesigning Debottlenecking projects are undertaken to deliver these capacity increases, by implementing select changes to specific parts of a plant to relieve restrictions. In this session, we will discuss tools and analyses for assessing the process bottlenecks. We will address means of debottlenecking numerous unit operations, while listing points often forgotten in such projects. Finally we will discuss how debottlenecking projects are different from conventional grass roots projects, while treating the practical aspects of how to manage such projects. A list of references is included for further, deeper study. Many of the facts and figures presented in the talk were taken from these references.

How can identify sensitivity of hydraulic characteristics of irrigation systems?AI Publications
Due to the benefits of center pivot irrigation system into the other techniques, especially surface irrigation, more accurate design of these systems for saving in water resources, increasing irrigation efficiency, and finally encourage farmers to use of this system (when using this method is economical), recognition of effective parameters on center pivot have a great importance. In this study, using PipeLoss software, amounts of pressure loss, friction slope, inflow velocity, velocity head, and Reynolds number in center pivot systems survived. The results showed that: Pipe inside diameter was more effective than other parameters. Changes of pressure loss, in all cases (except Qs), were the maximum. Changes of velocity head were the maximum in scenarios related to the changes of system discharge. In center pivot system design, should be noted to pipe inside diameter and system discharge as input and pressure loss as output, more than other inputs and outputs parameters.
