The Expansion Of The Western Expansion During The...
The narrative of America has always been associated with Western Expansion using bounds and leaps
starting from the East Coast until the Pacific. The acquisition of Alaska and Hawaii, though not
included in the historical literature, signified the expansion of Americans westward maintaining the
ideology of the Manifest Destiny. The Western expansion during the nineteenth century was aided by
various factors such as purchases, treaties, and wars with the Native Americans. This essay develops
the chronological events associated with the Western expansion that took place between 1860 and
1890.
According to Kinnahan (407), the 19th century in America was marked by the continuous and
tremendous expansion of agriculture and industry as well as settlement throughout the continent. The
country s population more than doubled by the 1890 census. Most of the financial progress was
concentrated in the plains, Midwest, and Northwest states. Particularly, the northwest became the
industrial periphery of the nation controlling more than 85 percent of the United States processing and
manufacturing of raw materials in the West and Midwest. The South thrived as an agricultural state
with minimal industrial activities.
For many years prior to the Civil War, the Northern states were forced to conform to the wayward
policies instituted by the South. The South held most of the Senate but as soon as their power began to
dwindle, their unscrupulous laws were reformed. Some of the policies that

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of A Snowstorm
This painting is about a lower class family that is going through a snowstorm in the middle of the
winter to survive instead of just staying inside the warm house. This painting is called the snowstorm
and was painted by Francisco Goya to illustrate a lighter but still hard time in life. This painting is
about a family out in a snowstorm and illustrates a lot about the character of the family with the
hardships that they went through, along with the desperation and willpower to survive.
While the family is out in the middle of the snowstorm they have many hardships to deal with. The
family is all grouped together in the middle of the painting with their jackets wrapped around them
and their heads facing down to keep warm with snow in every direction of them as if they don t want
to travel. This shows that the family is cold and, yet they have to face the hardship of the winter. The
tree next to the family is severely swayed to the right the branch in front of the family was broken off
from the tree and laying on the ground showing how hard it was to face the cold and wind of the
storm. A dog is in front of the family at attention on all four feet with the dog s paw prints trailing the
dog showing that the family is moving in the direction away from the prints. There is a dead pig
draped across and the back of a mule and tied down to it, along with a man on the left side has a gun
in between his arms tucked into his body as if he is the one who hunts the food for the family.

How Crime-Forecasting Software and the Principles of...
How Crime Forecasting Software and the Principles of Psychology Work Together
Researchers have come up with an innovative way of predicting crime by the use of Crime
Forecasting Software. The software is meant to enable the security agencies to maximize their
effectiveness in dealing with crime within their specific area of responsibility using limited resources.
It goes beyond the convectional hot spot analysis and evaluates both spatial and temporal attributes in
incident data. With the result, it creates a forecast map of areas where and when crime is likely to
occur. It comes with an integrated map viewer to help visualize crime hotspots every moment of the
day. It creates forecast models from latest crime data from Records management ... Show more

Thus, the probability of one engaged in crime can be traced to the childhood. The principle of analysis
and theory of psychodynamic perspective come into play in analysing the likelihood of one engaging
in crime in future.
2. Multivariate methods.
These methods take into account several variables that come into play. It involves simultaneous
observation and analysis of more than one outcome of a variable. In crime forecasting, valuables used
could be fixed elements on a particular area that has high rate of crime, (nature of residents and land
issues). These factors do not change easily. Spatial interactions in the data are also analysed. (For
example, using time lags to show displacement of crime from a hot spot to neighbouring areas due to
police crackdown on offenders.)Finally, lead factors in the forecast are defined. (example; steady rise
in small crimes will lead to hard ones in the future.) The study further seeks to show the relationship
between the variables and the problem being studied. Cognitive theory in psychology explains that
people develop reasoning in an ordinary and logical fashion. The analysis of your behaviour may be
dependent on several factors affecting your reasoning. To make decisions, you undergo a series of
complex processes in the mind. However, you are likely to be affected by issues such as poor
judgement, beliefs and personal aspirations. In forecasting, each of the independent

African American Literature And Religion
Throughout history it can be easy to see that religion/faith and spirituality have been a big influence
on African American Literature. Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many
forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom.
Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through
their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was
vital to the unity of the African American slaves. Spirituality as well, as faith, brought a feeling of
community amongst the separated African American slaves. The African Americans religious practices
were an essential and foundational aspect of the world that the slaves created for themselves inside the
plantation, which was a cruel, cold, and unfair world forced upon the slaves. ... Show more content on

The point that is brought about among the texts is not necessarily the differences among the Christian
faith or African faiths or the Muslim faiths and how each affected the African American slave. The big
picture seen in the text is that faith and religion did in fact have a great positive effect among the
slaves and also had an effect on the environment that the slaves were pressed into during the lineage of
the black Americans from the 1800s until now.
Religion and Spirituality was in continues to be such a prominent theme in African American
Literature because religion and spirituality was/is so important in their everyday lives. I think that
without religion, many would have succumbed to their woes and their inhuman spiritual strength

Backpressure Based Adaptive Routing and Scheduling In...
Under high traffic conditions, this works very well, and backpressure is able to fully utilize the
available network resources in a highly dynamic fashion. Under low traffic conditions, however,
because many other nodes may also have a small or 0 queue size, there is inefficiency in terms of an
increase in delay, as packets may loop or take a long time to make their way to the destination. This is
particularly of concern in intermittent encounter based mobile networks which are already delay
limited due to the sparse and highly dynamic network connectivity. Such networks have proposed the
use of redundant transmissions to improve delay, which do not work well when the traffic load is high.
Routing protocol, such as Spray and Wait, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The additional transmissions incurred by BWAR due to the duplicates utilize available slots which
would otherwise go idle, in order to reduce the delay. Particularly for networks that are not energy
limited, this offers a more efficient way to utilize the available bandwidth during low load conditions.
In order to minimize the storage resource utilization of duplicate packets, ideally, these duplicate
packets should be removed from the network whenever a copy is delivered to the destination. Since
this may be difficult to implement (except in some kinds of networks with a separate control plane),
we also propose and evaluate a practical timeout mechanism for automatic duplicate removal. Under
high load conditions, because queues are rarely empty, duplicates are rarely created, and BWAR
effectively reverts to traditional backpressure and inherits its throughput optimality property. By
design, BWAR is highly robust and distributed and does not require prior knowledge of locations,
mobility patterns, and load conditions.
The duplicate queues are maintained and utilized as follows:
Original packets when transmitted are removed from the main queue; however, if the queue size is
lower than a certain threshold qth, then the transmitted packet is duplicated and kept in the duplicate
buffer associated with its destination if it is not full (otherwise no duplicate is created).
Duplicate packets are not removed from the duplicate buffer when transmitted. They

Communication Challenges
Communication Challenges
Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., is a master storyteller and a great observer of life; Remen said, The most
basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most
important thing we ever give each other is our attention.... A loving silence often has far more power
to heal and to connect than the most well intentioned words. Communication, gender and culture
influence one another in many ways (Wood, 2008). People communicate either verbally, or non
verbally. Verbal and non verbal communication occurs simultaneously and work together,
complementing or contradicting each other (Harris Sherblom 2008). This paper will focus on how
people communicate, both verbal and non verbal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appropriate degree of assertiveness in communicating can add to cultural misunderstandings. For
instance, some white Americans typically consider raised voices to be a sign that a fight has begun,
while some black, Jewish and Italian Americans often feel that an increase in volume is a sign of an
exciting conversation among friends. Thus, some white Americans may react with greater alarm to a
loud discussion than would members of some American ethnic or non white racial groups

Christianity s Attachment And Underlying Principles And...
Christianity s attachment to underlying principles and beliefs are centered on the devotion of the Holy
Trinity. The perception of the trinity has shaped controversy by finding a solution from a reliable
origin. Deliberation on the true entity of God is unavoidable and contrasting opinions emerge by
human endeavor. Debate on the trinity largely was derived by disagreement on the concepts ousia
(common essence) and hypostasis (substance). These concepts became distinctive by The
Cappadocian Fathers: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Gregory of Nazianzus. The relationship
of God, the Father, and his son Jesus Christ was defined by the Cappadocian Fathers and what is
understood today in the Christian Doctrine. The Cappadocian Fathers were highly commended
martyrs that advanced the development of early Christian theology. Without the efforts of The
Cappadocian Fathers evolvement in defining the relationship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit, there would still be contest identical to early progression in Christian history.
HISTORY BEHIND THE TRINITY
The acceptance from expressing religious logic arouses deliberation in society. Throughout history,
theological debates were generated from the discussion of God s exact nature and accordance with his
son, Jesus Christ. Even though the trinity has been agreed upon as a secret above human
comprehension, this is naturally misleading due to its complexity. The beliefs surrounding the Holy
Spirit were neglected due to the

Cross Sectional Study Psychology
As a college student, I know first hand the importance of a good night s sleep. However, due to
homework, midterms, and extracurriculars, a nap has become a rare luxury. This is the case for
university students across the globe, and sleep disorders have become real a health concern. By
conducting a cross sectional study, psychologists at the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon
investigated sleep disorders and examined the relationship between sleep disorders and anxiety. In the
form of a cross sectional observational study, the researchers gave four surveys to 462 students at the
Saint Joseph University. The four questionnaires regarded the following: Insomnia Severity Index,

Cross sectional studies are cost effective and are easy to conduct alongside a survey. This approach
was also a good choice because time was not a factor in this study. However, if the researchers didn t
have access to data concerning insomnia and anxiety in different age groups, then surveys for various
age groups would have to be conducted by the researchers. The only other option would be a
longitudinal study. My only criticism of this study is that there were multiple surveys regarding sleep,
but only one survey regarding anxiety. I think a more detailed assessment of anxiety in the student
body would paint a clearer picture of the link between anxiety and

The Problem Of Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is one of the most controversial issues of today s society. This stems from the fact that
although nuclear power holds vast amounts of potential, it currently has many problems. One of the
main problems is figuring out what to do with the waste. The waste itself is too dangerous to dispose
of in any conventional way, so presently, most of it is sealed in concrete casks and put into storage (in
bunkers) until it stops being dangerous. This might not seem like a bad idea at first, but the problem
with this idea is that the waste won t stop being dangerous for many, many years. There have to be
better solutions to this problem.
As it turns out, there are a few. The most promising in the short term is to recycle the nuclear waste,
like any normal type of waste. In order to understand how this and some other solutions work, a crash
course in basic nuclear physics will be provided. Now, that might sound a bit difficult, but it s actually
pretty simple, and chances are some of it was taught in elementary school science class. Anyone who
feels they already know what they need to know, or can t be bothered to read it, should feel free to
skim through or skip the crash course.
Let s get started! Every physical object in existence is made of atoms. Atoms are made of three basic
components: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons carry a positive(+) electrostatic charge,
electrons carry a negative( ) electrostatic charge and are about a thousandth the mass of a proton,

β10 0 Test statistic: t = 1.378, p value = 0.170, respectively. The lower tailed p value, obtained by
dividing the two tailed p value in half, is 0.170/2 = 0.085. Since we are testing using α = 0.1, α
exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of the sale price of the
condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3) decreases ; that is x2 and x3
interact positively. Thus, it appears that the interaction term should be included in the model.
Therefore the new multiple regression model is: E(y) = 198.934 6.474 x1 5.746 x2 + 58.666 x3 21.678

Acceptance Letter To Berklee Essay
On March 31st, this year, I received my acceptance letter from Berklee College of Music, one of the
world s best contemporary music schools. I was passionate about music since the age of nine, and this
passion drove me towards pursuing a career in music. Despite of my family s urge for me to take the

remained true to my conviction of applying only to a music school. Thus, my options were few in
number. But a (insert metaphor here) of relief struck me when I received my acceptance letter from
Berklee. However, looking at the price tag of attending Berklee, I began facing conflict within myself

The Movie, Good Will Hunting Essay
The movie, Good Will Hunting (1997), is about a young twenty year old man named Will Hunting.
Will Hunting lives in a rather impoverished area in South Boston and is a young janitor who typically

During the first week of classes at MIT, Will solves a difficult graduate level math problem that one of

that someone would solve it by the end of the semester (Van Sant, 1997). However, Will solves the
problem but does not want to let anyone know that it was him that solved the difficult equation,
therefore it came to everyone s surprise when they discovered it was actually Will who solved the
problem in such a short matter of time, indicating his hidden intellect (Van Sant, 1997). Outside of
work, Will got into an argument with a group of boys who previously tried to bully him (Van Sant,
1997). Because of this incident, Will was arrested after hitting the officer who responded to the fight
(Van Sant, 1997). Throughout Will s trial, the math professor who initially wrote the problem on the
board, began intervening with his trial, after realizing Will s potential when he notices Will s intellect

Hopi tribe is found in the Southwest region of the United States in Arizona, where they trace their

summer that falls into the social dance category. The dance is a celebration of the end of the harvest
season and thankfulness for a good crop. The Butterfly Dance is sponsored by a family and held
specifically for the young people of the tribe (Lomahaftewa). Important aspects of the dance include
the public performance, with no sacred altars or secret rites associated, and the fact that the dance is
social in nature and open to spectators (Fewkers). When a family decides that they would like to

John Stuart Mills Theory Of Punishment
To me punishment is a phrase that is best learned by children and criminals. As we grow up in life we
learn what you can and cannot do by pushing it to the edge, seeing just how far you can go before
being punished. We push those limits through our school, peers, family, society or the criminal justice
system. When experiencing punishment in life, if bestowed correctly the teacher will teach the student
a life long lesson. This is why when an individual has done something dishonorable he or she should
be punished as quickly and close as possible to the time and or place of the incident. If punishment is
long delayed, the connection between it and the offense becomes stained. It makes no sense to punish
an individual who has behaved properly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Francesco Petrach s The Ascent Of Mont Ventoux
The beginning of the Renaissance brought many changes to the world. It became known as the Age of
Exploration and it brought in a new perspective on art. This perspective on art is shown through
anything from visual arts to literary art. This time period also introduced the rise of humanism. It
brought into the picture a very optimistic view of humanity. This was shown especially in the work
The Ascent of Mont Ventoux by Francesco Petrarch. This work refers back to Book X of Confessions
by Saint Augustine when Petrarch reaches the top of the mountain. Although they are both dealing
with the same passage, Petrarch and Augustine seem to interpret it in very different ways. Petrarch
wrote the Ascent of Mont Ventoux as a young man. It is a letter to his former confessor, Dionigi di
Borgo San Sepolcro, because he was in seminary school. The letter is essentially a travel journal about
his journey up Mont Ventoux. Petrarch initially wanted to take this journey with his friends, but they
either refused or were not up to his standards. He decide to just climb the mountain with his brother.
At the beginning of the journey, Petrarch writes about his encounter with an old, cranky man in the

Smoking And Fetal Development Research Paper
The effects of smoking on fetal development When pregnant its very important to be good to your
body and make sure you don t drink alcohol, get bad foods, take certain medicines, eating certain
foods, or a number of things that can hurt the development and growth of a baby. When pregnant its
important to not have bad habits like drinking or smoking, its important to eat healthy foods or
exercise. One thing that is really bad to do when pregnant is smoke. Smoking can have many different
effects on a baby. In this paper I will be talking about the effects it can cause on the baby. Smoking is
a bad thing to do in general but also its bad to do when pregnant. A baby is inside you and they breath
and eat and grow in you and use your body to do so, anything you eat or breath will affect that baby
inside you. Cigarettes are really dangerous because they contain 4,000 and even more chemicals.
There s chemicals in cigarettes called cyanide, lead, and at least 60 cancer causing compounds. When
people smoke the smoke gets in the bloodstream and when your pregnant the bloodstream is the only
source of oxygen and nutrients. Complications that could happen are stillbirth, premature delivery, and
low birth weight. Cigarette smoke makes blood vessels within the body start to get narrower and it can
also narrow the ones in the umbilical cord. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teacher Student Relationship With Students
The Teacher Student Relationship
School begins at age five, or for some even before that, and so begins the excruciating routine of
waking up at an early hour to be ready to be at a place where you didn t ask to be, to be taught by an
older stranger about something you don t understand. However, in the life of a human being this
routine that goes on for years is essential to our lives, as well as those older strangers who teach about
subjects that you don t understand. Those older strangers have the responsibility to pass on knowledge
to their students and the given knowledge, whether taken or not, will determine their future. Is
everyone comfortable or willingly to accept the teachings of a total stranger? Of course not, therefore
this total stranger has to have an identification to the students, but not necessarily just a name.
Teachers must develop a relationship with their students because teacher student relationships affect a
student s academic excellence.
As a student myself I witness the rebellious outburst of students that will at no end do everything, but
be productive in class. What is the root of this refusal towards learning? This resistance to education is
a nature acquired from the famous phrase that school is boring or school is hard and those rebellious
students disengage themselves from the class and teacher. When a child transitions into being a
student there has to be an engagement to pull them into a pleasure or some sort of ambition for
learning

Ebony In The Ivory Towers
Will There Finally be Ebony in the Ivory Towers?
The tech industry has been lambasted for the lack of diversity in the major players like Apple,
Facebook, and Google, especially for the lack of black and brown personnel in upper management.
Spike Lee has recently renewed his cry for a more diverse Hollywood, recently commenting, It s
easier to be the president of the United States as a black person than be the head of a studio [or]

missions are propelled forward by a faculty that stands at the forefront of scholarship, research,

and that diversity must reach across the whole of Yale to every school and to every department.
Diversity has become a front page news item at universities around the country this last month as
protests at Mizzou over the staff handling of racial incidents led to the walk out of the football team
and eventual stepping down of the university president and chancellor. Yale has faced similar, but less
dramatic, issues over halloween costumes and an alleged yelling of white girls only at a frat party.
The two Yale university leaders added that they are committed to investing the significant funding and
human capital that will be necessary to make this initiative a success. But they noted that increasing

The And The World Wide Web
In chapter 11, the author of our text says, in part: Learning what is true and what is not true is harder
today than it once was. The difficulty is not because of a lack of information. We have more
information and more points of view available to us than ever in history. A few clicks on any topic and
you get thousands of entries. In fact, perhaps we get too much information. We get so much that we
are often overwhelmed.... A second problem today is that we should not necessarily believe what we
see or hear. He also says: Our political culture teaches us to learn to be ignorant about politics. Our
generation is one that has more exposure than any prior generation to twenty four hour reports on
multi media devices. Thanks to the internet and the World Wide Web, we have at our disposal many
viewpoints and a wealth of information. This does not necessarily mean that our generation is more
informed or knowledgeable than prior ones. Not all information we are exposed to is true or unbiased.
Learning what is true and what is not true is harder today than it once was . This statement by the
author of our text could refer to the fact that our technology today is so advanced that photographs and
videos can be altered in such a way that no one is the wiser. Just because you are shown a photo or
video does not mean it is a realistic representation of what actually happened. You cannot always
believe what you see. One example of manipulation to a photo is an article in the LA Times

Erikson s Psychosocial Theory And Psychosocial Development
Theories and Theorists
Theories are the building blocks of psychology. Theories whether old or new has allowed us to know
what we know now. There are many theories in the field of psychology or educational psychology that
are important to further understand human behavior. However, this paper will focus on only two
theories which are; Erikson s psychosocial theory and Alfred Adler s Adlerian theory.
Erik Erikson s psychosocial development has always been a great contribution to the field of
psychology by Erik Erikson (Berk, 2007). Erikson suggested that everyone experiences a series of
psychosocial stages instead of psychosexual stages as proposed by Sigmund Freud. Despite the fact
that Erikson disagreed with Sigmund Freud in so many areas in his psychosexual theory, it was
actually Freud s psychosexual theory that helped Erikson formulate his own psychosocial theory and
Erikson was very much influenced by Sigmund and his work (Erikson, 1968). So even if Erikson
disagreed with Freud, Sigmund actually contributed to Erikson s psychosocial theory because if it
wasn t for Freud s shortcomings in his psychosexual theory, Erikson would not have come up with his
own psychosocial theory (Erikson, 1968).
Freud and Erikson hold opposite views on many things. However, they did agree on a few things to
like how they both believed that personality develops in a series of set stages. But dissimilar from
Freud s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory depicts the influence of

Similarities Between Psycho And The Birds
When looking at the collection of works by Alfred Hitchcock, it is common to notice similar threads
throughout his life work. The films viewed in class alone, share many things, as both Psycho and The
Birds consist of more than what meets the eye. Though one may be about a killer man and the other
about killer animals, both Hitchcock films develop a deep, dark string of events leading up to
inevitable death. Being in touch with a great love of drama, thrill and suspense, Alfred Hitchcock
leaves you on the edge of your seat, with many famous scenes and never before seen ideas, making
you incapable of averting your eyes. As noted many times in class, Hitchcock followed a common
storyline with the types of characters he created. For example, ... Show more content on

viewers to be more perceptive of certain details, giving us hints based on the surrounding objects. It
helps the audience to figure out what might be coming or which direction the storyline may be going
in. For example, the famous shower scene in Psycho, when Norman Bates mother is about to murder
Marion Crane. When the shower curtain is pulled back and we see the killer, her face is completely
darkened and out of focus, but the knife with which the mother kills Crane, is captured perfectly. This
camera effect, as well as the close up of Crane s face when she is about to be killed, allows the
spectators to truly be the voyeurs and fully experience the tension the scene is trying to encapsulate.
We experience similar shots throughout The Birds, but specifically when Hendren s character Melanie
Daniels approaches the attic, investigating some suspicious sounds. When she opens the door, almost
immediately she is swarmed by hundreds of malicious birds attacking her from all angles. Hitchcock
meticulously places the camera on Daniels face, getting a close up shot of her terror, in order to

The Importance Of Artifice In Society
Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it is no secret that
artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable skill, exploited by many to achieve their own
ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of cunning devices or expedients to deceive
others, is often utilized by politicians and organizations to help push their own agendas. As illustrated
by Chris Hedges in his social commentary, Empire of Illusion, artifice has emerged to become so
ubiquitous and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the entertainment
industry. Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more likely to be
disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today s modern world, no area has seen more
abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics. Its common knowledge that newspapers skew
reports to their own biases and politicians often tell half truths to cover up ulterior motives.
Unfortunately, these politicians and media giants hold extremely influential positions in society, and
their usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and accountability within the United
States. As a result, the press as well as the general populace must utilize free speech to expose this
behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of artifice, such chicanery remains essential
for success in media and politics. Artifice generated through the media plays a pivotal role in the

Capital Market Imperfections in Emerging Economies
Capital market imperfection generally refers the capital available at below market rates for a certain
time period and this result in creating disequilibrium in the capital market. Market imperfections in
emerging economies such as China may be transformed into ownership advantages (Buckley, 2004)
and this may be emerged from a number of interrelated imperfections listed below: 1) State owned
enterprises (SOEs) may have capital possibly in forms of soft budget constraints which made available
to them at below the market rates (Warner et al., 2004) 2) Banking systems are inefficient which it
allows to make soft loans to potential outward investors (Warner et al., 2004; Antkiewicz and Whalley,
2006). 3) Many Chinese conglomerate firms may operate an inefficient internal capital market and
effectively subsidize FDI (Liu, 2005). 4) Family owned firms tend to have easier access to cheap
capitals through family members (Child and Pleister, 2003; Erdener and Shapiro, 2005) These
imperfections in the capital market may all exist in China. According to Tong (2002), soft budget
constraint is regarded as a common phenomenon in socialist economy. It is generally resulted from
inefficient operations. Inefficient Chinese firms survive in general and they contribute the soft budget
constraints promoted by local government and party officials (Lardy, 1998). Chinese enterprises make
acquisitions to enter and penetrate a host economy by using state sponsored soft budget constraints

New Atlantis By William Harvey
London, in the seventeenth century, underwent a progressive epistemological shift. In this period, the
intellectual paradigm slowly transitioned from a model wherein religious dogma, mysticism, and class
structure were the progenitors of thought to a model wherein scientific empiricism informed
discovery. Although there was a conflict between these ideological frameworks, we should not see this
confrontation of epistemologies as an overt and adversarial crisis of thought. Rather, the people
responsible for confronting the antique with the scientific often attempted to consolidate their
ideologies with those ideologies they were subtly challenging; they attempted to act within the
framework which they rejected. In this essay, we will explore this nearly contradictory sentiment by
examining four scientific works: On the Motion of the Heart, by William Harvey, Micrographia, by
Robert Hooke, New Atlantis and The Great Instauration, by Francis Bacon, and 153 Chymical
Aphorisms, by Chr. Packe. These four texts emerged from three distinct modes of scientific inquiry:

asking this question in the first place; for it sheweth that you first seek the kingdom of heaven. With
this quote, Bacon established that notions of divinity and salvation supercede any question of
knowledge attainment, and he therefore operated within Christian power

What You Know About Ticks Case Study
What You Can Do Know About Ticks
By Jim Doyle, Hartney Greymont, a Davey company
Ticks and tick borne diseases are continually rising in the United States. In fact, the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) just found that tick borne diseases have more than doubled in the last
13 years.
Unfortunately for us in Massachusetts, those numbers hold true. The number of confirmed Lyme
disease cases rose 65 percent from 2005 to 2009, according to the Massachusetts Department of

Each year, there are there are more Lyme cases than the year before! This untreatable disease accounts

the CDC says most humans are infected through the bites of these immature ticks. Right now, they
inhabit our lawns and gardens and love hiding along the edges of stone walls or in shady, moist spots
on the ground.
But there are simple solutions to minimize the tick population surrounding your home.
Solutions and Treatment
Hartney Greymont arborists like me recommend the following steps to help reduce your tick
population. Remember: no natural, vegetated area can be considered free of ticks. Instead, the goal is
to give ticks fewer places to hide.
Here are a few ways to do that!
1. Take away the places ticks love. Ticks prefer damp, humid locations and are extremely susceptible
to dehydration. When done correctly, this reduces your property s humidity by improving light and air
circulation.
2. Clean it up! Get rid of brush piles or areas with lots of green debris. If you see any other overgrown
areas of your garden, cut those back.
3. Deter deer. Add a physical barrier, like a fence, to keep deer and other tick carrying animals out of
your yard. Deer repellant spray may also be ap¬plied onto the plantings around your home to keep

The pair that I have chosen is Angelina E. Grimké and Sojourner Truth. These two women are strong
for standing up for what they believe in. Even though they came from different backgrounds of life,
they fought for the same equal rights and freedom.
There are several similarities and differences between Grimké and Truth. Starting from the younger
years, Agelina E. Grimké, a white woman, was born and raised in a family that owned slaves in
Charleston, South Carolina. Opposite of her, Sojourner Truth, a black woman, was born a slave in
Ulster County, which is in Upstate New York. While both women are different ends of the spectrum,

and slave. It is said that Grimké s work in antislavery helped her advocate women s rights as well. The
investigation of the rights of the slave has led me to a better understanding of my own (Grimké 771).
Truth, had a visionary experience that left her convinced God wanted her to speak the truth about the
evils of Americans sins against blacks and women (Truth 775). Both women have given speeches to
audiences of both men and women about antislavery and women s rights.
Grimké had seven main arguments that she wanted to convince other women that slavery was wrong
and that slavery needed to be gone. First, that slavery is contrary to the declaration of our
independence. Second, that it is contrary to the first charter of human rights given to

When the police arrive, the outlaws put on their famous steel armour, and start shooting at the police.
During the shootout Ned is wounded in the foot, hand and arm and retreats into the bush, having
injured Superintendent Hare, the commander of the police proceedings that night. The other members
of the gang withdraw to the hotel where they are shot dead by police. Ned returns to Glenrowan at
dawn and is quickly brought down, but not killed, with shots to his unprotected legs. In the film,
however, it is made to look as though the Kelly gang bring down many officers in the fight for their
cause and also that Dan and Steve kill themselves before the police can get to them. This event is

Oklahoma City Bombing Research Paper
In 1995, it all started as a peaceful Wednesday morning. People were starting work or just waking up
in Oklahoma City. While all these peoples days were starting, a young male parked a yellow truck
outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. That day, everyone s life in that building changed
forever. The effects of the April 19,1995 bombing were more than just physical to the survivors of this
horrific event. The incident was planned a year before the bombing, in an old trailer in Kingman
Arizona between an ex military man named Timothy McVeigh, and some of his military friends
(Casey). McVeigh was just like any other boy growing up. He was into toys and sports, but he was
very into guns. When he was older, he joined the army and was the top of his squadron. After given
the opportunity to join the Green Berets but not meeting up to their standards, he left the army and
tried to become a worker. During this time, he followed his hobby for guns and joined many militias.

Two months after the Oklahoma City bombing, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, made a trip to
Oklahoma City and met 22 month old P.J. Allen. Since then her charity Chances for Children has
raised more than $2 million for the victims, including $20,000 for P.J. (Schindehette). This event
changed many lifes. Like Don Hull, who has spent 14 years as a hostage negotiator, found himself
performing an entirely different task: trying to find life amid the rubble (McRoberts). This event
changed his career life for a short time, but many people suffered emotionally if not as well physically.
Many people lost family members, friends, and neighbors. These people have suffered more because
of this event than anyone else in the world. Even though this event happened and the people as a
whole have suffered, humans still strive and

  • 2. The Expansion Of The Western Expansion During The... The narrative of America has always been associated with Western Expansion using bounds and leaps starting from the East Coast until the Pacific. The acquisition of Alaska and Hawaii, though not included in the historical literature, signified the expansion of Americans westward maintaining the ideology of the Manifest Destiny. The Western expansion during the nineteenth century was aided by various factors such as purchases, treaties, and wars with the Native Americans. This essay develops the chronological events associated with the Western expansion that took place between 1860 and 1890. According to Kinnahan (407), the 19th century in America was marked by the continuous and tremendous expansion of agriculture and industry as well as settlement throughout the continent. The country s population more than doubled by the 1890 census. Most of the financial progress was concentrated in the plains, Midwest, and Northwest states. Particularly, the northwest became the industrial periphery of the nation controlling more than 85 percent of the United States processing and manufacturing of raw materials in the West and Midwest. The South thrived as an agricultural state with minimal industrial activities. For many years prior to the Civil War, the Northern states were forced to conform to the wayward policies instituted by the South. The South held most of the Senate but as soon as their power began to dwindle, their unscrupulous laws were reformed. Some of the policies that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of A Snowstorm This painting is about a lower class family that is going through a snowstorm in the middle of the winter to survive instead of just staying inside the warm house. This painting is called the snowstorm and was painted by Francisco Goya to illustrate a lighter but still hard time in life. This painting is about a family out in a snowstorm and illustrates a lot about the character of the family with the hardships that they went through, along with the desperation and willpower to survive. While the family is out in the middle of the snowstorm they have many hardships to deal with. The family is all grouped together in the middle of the painting with their jackets wrapped around them and their heads facing down to keep warm with snow in every direction of them as if they don t want to travel. This shows that the family is cold and, yet they have to face the hardship of the winter. The tree next to the family is severely swayed to the right the branch in front of the family was broken off from the tree and laying on the ground showing how hard it was to face the cold and wind of the storm. A dog is in front of the family at attention on all four feet with the dog s paw prints trailing the dog showing that the family is moving in the direction away from the prints. There is a dead pig draped across and the back of a mule and tied down to it, along with a man on the left side has a gun in between his arms tucked into his body as if he is the one who hunts the food for the family. ... • 4. How Crime-Forecasting Software and the Principles of... How Crime Forecasting Software and the Principles of Psychology Work Together Researchers have come up with an innovative way of predicting crime by the use of Crime Forecasting Software. The software is meant to enable the security agencies to maximize their effectiveness in dealing with crime within their specific area of responsibility using limited resources. It goes beyond the convectional hot spot analysis and evaluates both spatial and temporal attributes in incident data. With the result, it creates a forecast map of areas where and when crime is likely to occur. It comes with an integrated map viewer to help visualize crime hotspots every moment of the day. It creates forecast models from latest crime data from Records management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the probability of one engaged in crime can be traced to the childhood. The principle of analysis and theory of psychodynamic perspective come into play in analysing the likelihood of one engaging in crime in future. 2. Multivariate methods. These methods take into account several variables that come into play. It involves simultaneous observation and analysis of more than one outcome of a variable. In crime forecasting, valuables used could be fixed elements on a particular area that has high rate of crime, (nature of residents and land issues). These factors do not change easily. Spatial interactions in the data are also analysed. (For example, using time lags to show displacement of crime from a hot spot to neighbouring areas due to police crackdown on offenders.)Finally, lead factors in the forecast are defined. (example; steady rise in small crimes will lead to hard ones in the future.) The study further seeks to show the relationship between the variables and the problem being studied. Cognitive theory in psychology explains that people develop reasoning in an ordinary and logical fashion. The analysis of your behaviour may be dependent on several factors affecting your reasoning. To make decisions, you undergo a series of complex processes in the mind. However, you are likely to be affected by issues such as poor judgement, beliefs and personal aspirations. In forecasting, each of the independent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. African American Literature And Religion Throughout history it can be easy to see that religion/faith and spirituality have been a big influence on African American Literature. Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom. Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was vital to the unity of the African American slaves. Spirituality as well, as faith, brought a feeling of community amongst the separated African American slaves. The African Americans religious practices were an essential and foundational aspect of the world that the slaves created for themselves inside the plantation, which was a cruel, cold, and unfair world forced upon the slaves. ... The big picture seen in the text is that faith and religion did in fact have a great positive effect among the slaves and also had an effect on the environment that the slaves were pressed into during the lineage of the black Americans from the 1800s until now. • 6. Backpressure Based Adaptive Routing and Scheduling In... Under high traffic conditions, this works very well, and backpressure is able to fully utilize the available network resources in a highly dynamic fashion. Under low traffic conditions, however, because many other nodes may also have a small or 0 queue size, there is inefficiency in terms of an increase in delay, as packets may loop or take a long time to make their way to the destination. This is particularly of concern in intermittent encounter based mobile networks which are already delay limited due to the sparse and highly dynamic network connectivity. Such networks have proposed the use of redundant transmissions to improve delay, which do not work well when the traffic load is high. Routing protocol, such as Spray and Wait, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The additional transmissions incurred by BWAR due to the duplicates utilize available slots which would otherwise go idle, in order to reduce the delay. Particularly for networks that are not energy limited, this offers a more efficient way to utilize the available bandwidth during low load conditions. In order to minimize the storage resource utilization of duplicate packets, ideally, these duplicate packets should be removed from the network whenever a copy is delivered to the destination. Since this may be difficult to implement (except in some kinds of networks with a separate control plane), we also propose and evaluate a practical timeout mechanism for automatic duplicate removal. Under high load conditions, because queues are rarely empty, duplicates are rarely created, and BWAR effectively reverts to traditional backpressure and inherits its throughput optimality property. By design, BWAR is highly robust and distributed and does not require prior knowledge of locations, mobility patterns, and load conditions. The duplicate queues are maintained and utilized as follows: Original packets when transmitted are removed from the main queue; however, if the queue size is lower than a certain threshold qth, then the transmitted packet is duplicated and kept in the duplicate buffer associated with its destination if it is not full (otherwise no duplicate is created). Duplicate packets are not removed from the duplicate buffer when transmitted. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Communication, gender and culture influence one another in many ways (Wood, 2008). People communicate either verbally, or non verbally. • 10. Christianity s Attachment And Underlying Principles And... Christianity s attachment to underlying principles and beliefs are centered on the devotion of the Holy Trinity. The perception of the trinity has shaped controversy by finding a solution from a reliable origin. Deliberation on the true entity of God is unavoidable and contrasting opinions emerge by human endeavor. Debate on the trinity largely was derived by disagreement on the concepts ousia (common essence) and hypostasis (substance). These concepts became distinctive by The Cappadocian Fathers: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Gregory of Nazianzus. The relationship of God, the Father, and his son Jesus Christ was defined by the Cappadocian Fathers and what is understood today in the Christian Doctrine. The Cappadocian Fathers were highly commended martyrs that advanced the development of early Christian theology. Without the efforts of The Cappadocian Fathers evolvement in defining the relationship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, there would still be contest identical to early progression in Christian history. HISTORY BEHIND THE TRINITY The acceptance from expressing religious logic arouses deliberation in society. Throughout history, theological debates were generated from the discussion of God s exact nature and accordance with his son, Jesus Christ. Even though the trinity has been agreed upon as a secret above human comprehension, this is naturally misleading due to its complexity. By conducting a cross sectional study, psychologists at the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon investigated sleep disorders and examined the relationship between sleep disorders and anxiety. • 12. The Problem Of Nuclear Power Nuclear power is one of the most controversial issues of today s society. This stems from the fact that although nuclear power holds vast amounts of potential, it currently has many problems. One of the main problems is figuring out what to do with the waste. The waste itself is too dangerous to dispose of in any conventional way, so presently, most of it is sealed in concrete casks and put into storage (in bunkers) until it stops being dangerous. This might not seem like a bad idea at first, but the problem with this idea is that the waste won t stop being dangerous for many, many years. There have to be better solutions to this problem. Specifically, H0: β10 = 0 Ha: β10 0 Test statistic: t = 1.378, p value = 0.170, respectively. The lower tailed p value, obtained by dividing the two tailed p value in half, is 0.170/2 = 0.085. Since we are testing using α = 0.1, α exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of the sale price of the condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3) decreases ; that is x2 and x3 interact positively. Thus, it appears that the interaction term should be included in the model. Therefore the new multiple regression model is: E(y) = 198.934 6.474 x1 5.746 x2 + 58.666 x3 21.678 x4 + 0.872 x12 + 0.533x22 0.264 x1x2 5.93 x1x3 + 0.92 x2x3 C. The Hopi is considered one of the oldest living cultures by historical documentation (Hopi Tribe). As we grow up in life we learn what you can and cannot do by pushing it to the edge, seeing just how far you can go before being punished. When experiencing punishment in life, if bestowed correctly the teacher will teach the student a life long lesson. It became known as the Age of Exploration and it brought in a new perspective on art. This perspective on art is shown through anything from visual arts to literary art. This time period also introduced the rise of humanism. It brought into the picture a very optimistic view of humanity. This was shown especially in the work The Ascent of Mont Ventoux by Francesco Petrarch. This work refers back to Book X of Confessions by Saint Augustine when Petrarch reaches the top of the mountain. Although they are both dealing with the same passage, Petrarch and Augustine seem to interpret it in very different ways. Petrarch wrote the Ascent of Mont Ventoux as a young man. It is a letter to his former confessor, Dionigi di Borgo San Sepolcro, because he was in seminary school. The letter is essentially a travel journal about his journey up Mont Ventoux. Petrarch initially wanted to take this journey with his friends, but they either refused or were not up to his standards. He decide to just climb the mountain with his brother. At the beginning of the journey, Petrarch writes about his encounter with an old, cranky man in the foothills of the mountain. Theories whether old or new has allowed us to know what we know now. There are many theories in the field of psychology or educational psychology that are important to further understand human behavior. However, this paper will focus on only two theories which are; Erikson s psychosocial theory and Alfred Adler s Adlerian theory. Erik Erikson s psychosocial development has always been a great contribution to the field of psychology by Erik Erikson (Berk, 2007). Erikson suggested that everyone experiences a series of psychosocial stages instead of psychosexual stages as proposed by Sigmund Freud. Despite the fact that Erikson disagreed with Sigmund Freud in so many areas in his psychosexual theory, it was actually Freud s psychosexual theory that helped Erikson formulate his own psychosocial theory and Erikson was very much influenced by Sigmund and his work (Erikson, 1968). So even if Erikson disagreed with Freud, Sigmund actually contributed to Erikson s psychosocial theory because if it wasn t for Freud s shortcomings in his psychosexual theory, Erikson would not have come up with his own psychosocial theory (Erikson, 1968). Capital Market Imperfections in Emerging Economies Capital market imperfection generally refers the capital available at below market rates for a certain time period and this result in creating disequilibrium in the capital market. Market imperfections in emerging economies such as China may be transformed into ownership advantages (Buckley, 2004) and this may be emerged from a number of interrelated imperfections listed below: 1) State owned enterprises (SOEs) may have capital possibly in forms of soft budget constraints which made available to them at below the market rates (Warner et al., 2004) 2) Banking systems are inefficient which it allows to make soft loans to potential outward investors (Warner et al., 2004; Antkiewicz and Whalley, 2006). 3) Many Chinese conglomerate firms may operate an inefficient internal capital market and effectively subsidize FDI (Liu, 2005). 4) Family owned firms tend to have easier access to cheap capitals through family members (Child and Pleister, 2003; Erdener and Shapiro, 2005) These imperfections in the capital market may all exist in China. • 34. New Atlantis By William Harvey London, in the seventeenth century, underwent a progressive epistemological shift. In this period, the intellectual paradigm slowly transitioned from a model wherein religious dogma, mysticism, and class structure were the progenitors of thought to a model wherein scientific empiricism informed discovery. Although there was a conflict between these ideological frameworks, we should not see this confrontation of epistemologies as an overt and adversarial crisis of thought. Rather, the people responsible for confronting the antique with the scientific often attempted to consolidate their ideologies with those ideologies they were subtly challenging; they attempted to act within the framework which they rejected. In this essay, we will explore this nearly contradictory sentiment by examining four scientific works: On the Motion of the Heart, by William Harvey, Micrographia, by Robert Hooke, New Atlantis and The Great Instauration, by Francis Bacon, and 153 Chymical Aphorisms, by Chr. Packe. These four texts emerged from three distinct modes of scientific inquiry: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fictional utopian society of Bensalem which Bacon is concerned with is in many ways a highly traditional society. The first priority of the society, for instance, is not the acquisition of empirical knowledge, but rather adherence to a Christian dogma. When Bacon asked the governor of Bensalem how his culture came to embrace Christianity, the governor responds, Ye knit my heart to you, by asking this question in the first place; for it sheweth that you first seek the kingdom of heaven. With this quote, Bacon established that notions of divinity and salvation supercede any question of knowledge attainment, and he therefore operated within Christian power ... What You Know About Ticks Case Study What You Can Do Know About Ticks By Jim Doyle, Hartney Greymont, a Davey company Ticks and tick borne diseases are continually rising in the United States. In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) just found that tick borne diseases have more than doubled in the last 13 years. Unfortunately for us in Massachusetts, those numbers hold true. The number of confirmed Lyme disease cases rose 65 percent from 2005 to 2009, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Each year, there are there are more Lyme cases than the year before! This untreatable disease accounts for 82 percent of all tick borne diseases, according to the CDC. At this stage in their life, they re only the size of a poppy seed, which makes them easy to miss. Plus, the CDC says most humans are infected through the bites of these immature ticks. Right now, they inhabit our lawns and gardens and love hiding along the edges of stone walls or in shady, moist spots on the ground. But there are simple solutions to minimize the tick population surrounding your home. Solutions and Treatment Hartney Greymont arborists like me recommend the following steps to help reduce your tick population. Remember: no natural, vegetated area can be considered free of ticks. Instead, the goal is to give ticks fewer places to hide. Here are a few ways to do that! 1. Take away the places ticks love. Ticks prefer damp, humid locations and are extremely susceptible to dehydration. When done correctly, this reduces your property s humidity by improving light and air circulation. 2. Clean it up! Get rid of brush piles or areas with lots of green debris. If you see any other overgrown areas of your garden, cut those back. 3. Deter deer. Add a physical barrier, like a fence, to keep deer and other tick carrying animals out of your yard. Deer repellant spray may also be ap¬plied onto the plantings around your home to keep deer

I didn t think I could be that dangerous considering, I could fit within a pocket or a purse, and that I was very small. I just thought I was made for protecting people. Most of my other gun mates as soon as they were bought they got put in a black box sort of round at the edges with a lock at the front, my owner when he bought me, threw away the box that belonged with me. Some days I wish John, the man who bought me, just kept me in the box stored away under the bed or the top shelf of the closet so I can live the rest of my days in peace. Even though they came from different backgrounds of life, they fought for the same equal rights and freedom. There are several similarities and differences between Grimké and Truth. Starting from the younger years, Agelina E. Grimké, a white woman, was born and raised in a family that owned slaves in Charleston, South Carolina. Opposite of her, Sojourner Truth, a black woman, was born a slave in Ulster County, which is in Upstate New York. While both women are different ends of the spectrum, they wanted the same for every person, this included, equal rights and freedom for every man, woman, and slave. It is said that Grimké s work in antislavery helped her advocate women s rights as well. The investigation of the rights of the slave has led me to a better understanding of my own (Grimké 771). Truth, had a visionary experience that left her convinced God wanted her to speak the truth about the evils of Americans sins against blacks and women (Truth 775). Both women have given speeches to audiences of both men and women about antislavery and women s rights. Grimké had seven main arguments that she wanted to convince other women that slavery was wrong and that slavery needed to be gone. First, that slavery is contrary to the declaration of our independence. Second, that it is contrary to the first charter of human rights given to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

University of Colorado Denver, Aurora, Colorado. Abstract The role of aldosterone has expanded from the hormone s genomic effects that involve renal sodium transport to nongenomic effects that are independent of the effect of aldosterone on sodium transport. The nongenomic effects of aldosterone to increase fibrosis, collagen deposition, inflammation, and remodeling of the heart and blood vessels, however, are markedly increased in the presence of high sodium intake. The genomic effect of aldosterone increases renal sodium transport, but the administration of large doses of aldosterone to normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recent data show intense ADP P2Y12 platelet receptor inhibition with prasugrel is of particular clinical value in the diabetic patient with ACS, without excessive bleeding. Diabetic patients with ACS also benefit more from aggressive revascularization strategies. Recent data show the benefit of drug eluting stents in the setting of primary percutaneous coronary intervention for ST segment elevation myocardial infarction in decreasing target vessel revascularization up to 2 years, particularly in patients at highest risk for restenosis with bare metal stents (likely diabetic patients). • 43. Historical Accuracy In The Film Ned Kelly, Directed By... Ned Kelly (2003), directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Heath Ledger (Ned Kelly) and Orlando Bloom, is the film interpretation of the legendary story of the Kelly gang. As this is a film, not a documentary, it is only moderately historically accurate. The three key events in this story in which Jordan has attempted to maintain the truth to a reasonable extent are the incident with Constable Fitzpatrick, the shooting of Aaron Sherritt and the Glenrowan shootout. However, there is also one major aspect of the film where Jordan has not endeavoured to uphold historical accuracy, and that is Ned Kelly s love life. While all these peoples days were starting, a young male parked a yellow truck outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. That day, everyone s life in that building changed forever. The effects of the April 19,1995 bombing were more than just physical to the survivors of this horrific event. The incident was planned a year before the bombing, in an old trailer in Kingman Arizona between an ex military man named Timothy McVeigh, and some of his military friends (Casey). McVeigh was just like any other boy growing up. He was into toys and sports, but he was very into guns. When he was older, he joined the army and was the top of his squadron. After given the opportunity to join the Green Berets but not meeting up to their standards, he left the army and tried to become a worker.
