A Research Study On Helicopter Parenting Essay
College life for the twenty first century student is not what it used to be. According to an American
College Health Association National College Health Assessment survey, eighty five percent of college
students feel so tremendously overwhelmed they walk through the day blind and just hoping things
work out (Fisher). Students lack the ability to focus and manage everything that is piled on them
during class. The term helicopter parenting was first common in the 1990 s, but was first used in 1969.
Now, forty seven years later, helicopter parenting has become prevalent in college students lives and
the culture around people. A helicopter parent is one who takes an overprotective or excessive interest
in the life of their child or children. Helicopter parenting does not start out randomly as a college
student; helicopter parenting is a process that develops results.
The helicopter parent issue is prevalent to many people. People from Doctor Amy Joyce to stay at
home mom Jamie Porter have done studies to explain the effects of helicopter parenting. Psychologists
such as Chris Meno have done research and testings to collect data on helicopter parented children.
The issue of helicopter parenting is not just concerning children; it is concerning people across the
country.
President of Frostburg State University told Amy Joyce parents have called him to settle a dispute
between their child and their roommate. Joyce explains in her piece How Helicopter Parents Are

Functional Analysis Disadvantages
a. Describe the rationale for conducting a functional analysis. What are the benefits and limitations of
a functional analysis?
Functional Analysis (FA) is a tool used to identify a functional relationship. In order to establish this
relationship, a problematic behavior is operationally defined. Then, the environmental antecedents and
consequences of the behavior are systematically manipulated in well defined test and control
conditions and the behavior is observed and measured. The goal of this is to identify the sources of
reinforcement that maintain the behavior. Thus, the function of the behavior can be determined (Iwata
Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). One benefit of conducting a FA is that research has shown it to be more
reliable than self report measures, such as questionnaires or rating scales. They ... Show more content

In order to do this, the therapist may inform the client that she is busy and then move away. However,
when the client performs the problem behavior, the therapist should attend to the client immediately
by addressing the problem behavior, which is the consequence. Then, the therapist should return to
ignoring the client. If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of the behavior is
attention or social positive reinforcement (Iwata Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). The tangible condition
is similar to the attention condition. In this condition, the therapist should allow the client free access
to a preferred item prior to the session. At the beginning of the session, the therapist should remove
the item and move away from the client. When the problem behavior occurs, the therapist should
deliver the tangible item for about 30 seconds. Then, the therapist should move back away from the
client. If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of the behavior is tangibles or social
positive reinforcement (Iwata Dozier, 2008; Jackson,

Symbolism In The Happy Lovers By Jean-Honor Fragonard
In Jean Honoré Fragonard painting The Happy Lovers (appendix: fig. 1), viewers are able to get a
glimpse into the light hearted, playful Rococo period. The Happy Lovers is a 35.5 x 47.75 in. oil
painting, that was created between the years 1760 5 in France for an unnamed aristocrat; however, it
can now be found in the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. The Rococo period was a
result of artists resisting the stiff monarchy, and desiring open expressionism this was particularly
emphasized through nature. The two great artists from this period are Fragonard and François
Boucher, Fragonard s teacher. A result of Boucher teaching Fragonard, specifically in the continuation
of pastoral, Boucher was a great influence. This is obvious when The Happy Lovers is compared to
Boucher s The Bird Catchers (appendix: fig. 2). Both paintings include subjects of women holding
bird catchers and doves, ultimately symbolizing woman s ability to control relationships. More
specific to The Happy Lovers, the woman dangles the cage above the boy, who is carrying a dove, a
symbol of Venus the goddess of love. However, in the bottom left quadrant of the painting there is an
even larger cage with more doves, hinting at the idea that women can easily capture many men. This
further expands the sensual intention Fragonard creates. In placing this scene within a secluded
landscape, Fragonard emphasizes the flirtation and secretiveness between the two lovers creating an

Research Paper On Resistance Training
1.0 OVERVIEW
This chapter explain about background of the study, problem statement, objective, hypothesis,
significant of the study and limitation related to the study.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Resistance training has become one of most popular physical activities for increasing muscular
strength, endurance, hypertrophy and muscular power (American College of Sports Medicine, 2002).
Resistance training can be done either in the gymnasium or outside the gymnasium using the weight,
barbell, dumbbell, machine exercise, fit ball or body weight using the variables that needed. When
designing resistance training programs, many variables such as intensity, volume, frequency,
repetition, and velocity and rest interval must be considered as all these variable can be manipulated to

result in overtraining syndrome. Robinson, stone, Johnson, Penland, Warren and Lewis (1995) stated
in their study that, the 3 minute rest interval led to greater strength increase because of the ability to
maintain a higher training intensity and it demonstrated that greater muscular recovery via longer rest
interval between sets is the key to greater strength increases. If the training goal is maximal strength
development, sufficient of rest interval between sets must be included in the resistance training to get

Personal Strategic Plan For A Business Organization
The purpose of this paper would be a personal strategic plan for myself in which visualizes me as a
business organization, or as You, Inc. Therefore, to create a personal strategy one must examine a
mission statement, vision statement, and understand the environmental scan to identify external
opportunities and threats; in which, an individual or organization gathers information about the
market, society, its competitors, and oneself. A mission statement defines an individual purpose for
achieving certain goals. An individual mission statement should define their primary attributes to
employers, employees, or clients to identify the products and services they have to offer in a particular
field. A vision statement is long term goals that give an individual the formation that allows them a
competitive advantage in an organization or particular market. My personal vision statement is to seek
employment in the manufacturing sector as operations manager in logistics. Once this information is
achieved the individual or business can take the necessary steps to identify signs (Business Dictionary,
2015) of pressure and prospects that may influence their current and future course of action through
tools such as P.E.S.T (Political, Economic, Social and Technological) and through S.W.O.T. (Strength,
Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) analysis (QuickMBA, 2010).

The Density Den ( Experiment 4.3 )
The Density Den (Experiment 4.3)
Taken from Obook (aim, materials and method)
Date: Monday 15th June
Partners: Nicole and Grace
Introduction:
When people think of Archimedes they often think of the famous tale of his bath, and how he helped
discover density whilst unknowingly using the displacement method.
Density is the mass and volume of substances which is different in the 3 states of matter. The density
of the 3 matters can often be affiliated with the amount of space in between the particles. In the matter
gas particles are quite spread out so they have a low density whether as in the matter Solid particles
are tightly packed together and have a higher density.
Density is often used when comparing the heaviness of two objects.
STATION A
Aim: To measure the density of liquid water
Materials:
10 mL measuring cylinder
50 mL measuring cylinder
Electronic balance
Water

Method:
1.Measure the mass of the 10 mL measuring cylinder. Record its mass in grams.
2. Remove the measuring cylinder from the balance and add 6.0 mL of water to it.
3. Measure the mass of the cylinder and water. Calculate the mass of the water by subtracting kkthe
mass of the cylinder from the combined mass of the cylinder and water.
4. Calculate the density of the water (see Numeracy lab on page 145) and record your answer.
5. Repeat the experiment with the 50 mL measuring cylinder and 20mL of water. Calculate the
kkdensity of water.

Evaluate the impact of changes in the economic environment on a selected business D1
After various changes to the economic tax and interest rate, CPHP have conducted and compiled
research into current public spending. The results show that there has been a dramatic reduction in the
level of public spending in the UK.
The changes in economic environment will affect a business, the profit of the business will be affected
because its affect the price and income of a business, which are the main aspect of a business.
If Tesco decides to change the price of their goods, for example; the price of their doughnut in 2009

Tesco also have social factors that affect them, as the business have charity centre in helping the less

which also spending money.
Recession causes unemployment, this will affect the demand for goods and Tesco profit will drop.
An economic factor that might affect Tesco is the demand of the consumer and customer which will
decrease with the different problems; people are having in the world. As the demand decrease so the
economy of the business will decrease and the profit of the business will decrease too. This refers in
the fiscal and monetary, for example since when the government decided to raise the VAT from 17.5%
to 20%, the business increase their goods price and due to that reason the customers do not purchase
enough goods like they used.
Social factors refer in the trend of customer which keeps changing their trend, and what the trend of
their purchase. For example nowadays due to people s work, they are really busy so they often decide
to buy already cooked food.
Technology refers in how Tesco adopt online shopping to attract customer, to purchase goods and

They saved local farms and brought jobs to this region. They also shouldered the risk of hog prices,
thereby protecting the farmers. Smithfield was also able to satisfy customer demands of better
products at lower prices. The local farming community showed their tacit support by their eagerness
to do business with Smithfield as there was a two year long waiting list in 1998 for farmers wishing to
enter into contract farming! o The company should be proud of its business model. A business model
refers to how and why the business will generate revenues, cover costs, and produce profits and a
positive ROE. Annual sales in 2006 of $11 billion from $1.5 billion in 1995 and an average compound
growth rate of 24% during the decade speak volumes. However attention is required in addressing the
following: Concerns from the industry observers on contract farming more specifically their debt
laden nature Allegations of unfair labour practices low pay/ low quality, in addition the recruitment of
migrant labour from Central or South America that may be open to exploitation. Allegations of
detrimental environmental practices impact of concentrated cluster of hog farms on the environment.

After examining 19th century images of the Sámi from an archive Puranen found in Paris and photos
from poet Nils Aslak Valkeapää of Finnish Lapland, in addition to notes by Prince Roland Bonaparte s
original expedition of Lapland that was documented by French photographer G. Roche, Puranen
visited Finnish Lapland, the region near the north of Norway and Iceland. Puranen tracked down many
of the places and people related to the surnames identified in the notes and others sources researched,
which culminated in the book Imaginary Homecoming that contains archival photos from 1884
juxtaposed with his photos taken from 1991 to 1997. Like Klett and Wolfe, Puranen recreated the
original scene of the archived image that bridges the distance between time and space to illustrate
changes to the land over the past hundred years. Puranen s photos captured the culture of the Sámi of
Lapland as well as the traditions of everyday life past and present that endured despite migration in the
northern region. His photos represent the vanishing diaspora of Lapland and expose how modernity
and development intruded on a marginalized group on the edge of society, which Wells (2011)
suggests is a contemporary example of social and philosophical commentary that questions the
ideological tensions relating to land (p. 254). Others have also documented Finland s vulnerability as
global warming encroaches on the region and these photos reveal the dichotomy between the city and
country as many Finnish remain loyal to their rural heritage yet embrace modernity and technology as

High School Students on the Job Essay
High school students on the job
We spend four years of our lives attending high school. Going through high school is supposed to
prepare us for college and the real world. Throughout these four years we begin to better understand
our choices for college majors, but we don t get presented with the financial and time struggle that we
will face. College costs money, along with everyday living. When attending college we become more
independent and are faced with the problem of coming up with money and finding a balance between
time for work and school. Though it may seem like working through high school is a bad idea, it could
better prepare students for the real world.

the risk of struggles with money.
There are many students that have the ability to stay very focused on their educational goals. These
students tend to do very well academically and do not need a lot of stimuli to help them get moving.
There are other students who are not in the same boat. Some students become very frustrated with the
day to day routine of going to school. These students tend to benefit from having the option of
working outside of school. They begin to see that working hard does pay off. The feeling of
satisfaction they receive may motivate them to work harder at succeeding in school. They will
understand that though it is a lot of hard work, the more effort they put into their education, the better
off they will be. They will get higher paying jobs that suit their character if they continue to work hard
through high school and go to college.
A student s first job may not be glorious. Chances are it will be at a fast food restaurant or department
store. A student s first job will bring a self of satisfaction, but will also help to bring to a student s
attention that this is not what they want to be doing for the rest of their lives. If a student may not be

Arguments In Defense Of Ethical Relativism
1. Ethical Relativism is the moral theory that there are no absolute standards of Ethics. It looks at
notions of right or wrong as dependent upon an individual s interpretations, this is subjectivism, which
regards morality as personal resolutions. Ethical Relativism contends that morals are also culturally
based. Conventionalism, is the notion that morals are given value only within the context of social
expectations. The Diversity Thesis depends on the Anthropological fact that different societies have
differing moral codes. Furthermore, moralities are fluctuate as societies and people evolve. Therefore,
in Ethical Relativism, there are no universally valid moral standards and all ethical principles are
measured to be equally acceptable, as there are no moral principles that apply to all people at all times.

The Power Of Solar Power
Introduction
The South African power crisis needs little introduction as most of us spend our nights in the shadows
singing Hello Darkness My Old Friend and I ve Got the Power in the hope that at some point the
glorious rays of light will return. This energy crisis sees little end in sight and leaves the people of our
country with a need and responsibility to find alternative sources of energy solar power is one of these
solutions. Solar power is a brilliant idea as it harnesses the power of the sun and converts it into
electricity, however it is very costly and it is inefficient because only 11 15% of the energy harnessed
is converted into electricity. Solar panels are generally fixed at one position, usually at the angle that
one s roof slopes or at some other predetermined fixed position. According to research, by moving the
panel with the sun there will be a marked increase in the efficiency and power output of the solar
panel. It is also claimed that temperature will affect the amount of energy produced. Thus, this project
will aim to find out if there is a significant difference in efficiency as the sun moves around the solar
panel and attempt to obtain the best possible efficiency by moving the panel with the sun throughout
the day. By knowing this, it can be used by South African citizens to increase power, lower costs,
lower the strain on ESKOM s grid and improve their investment in solar panels.

Literary Analysis Of The Interlopers And The Machine That...
The Same Elements, the Different Feelings: A Comparison Between The Interlopers and The Machine
That Won the War. Have you ever read a story that reduced you to tears or genuinely made you laugh
out loud? Through the years, writers have utilized literary elements such as plot twists, foreshadowing,
and the three types of irony situational, dramatic, and verbal as well as characterization, misdirection,
and tone to play with the emotions of their readers. Today, we are going to focus on plot twists,
situational irony, and tone by exploring and analyzing two short stories. The Machine That Won the
War and The Interlopers are two short stories that employ plot twists, situational irony, and tone to
very different ends. Plot twist is used in The Machine That Won the War; throughout the story, the
three characters have been discussing Multivac, the machine that won the war (1). Different characters
reveal different pieces of information, causing the reader to believe that men won the war or that a
different machine was the true victor (1). In the ending, Asimov surprises the reader by causing Swift
to reveal that a simple coin toss won the war not a machine at all (1). Swift is is dramatic in his
revelation, taking his dear sweet time explaining what machine won the war (1). Finally, he flips a
coin and turns to his companions, asking: Heads or tails, gentlemen? (1) As this is probably not what
the reader is expecting, he is likely caught somewhat off guard, and

Discretion Of The Word Discretion Essay
The etymology of the word Discretion is rooted in the early 1300 s, stemming from Old French
Discrecion or Late Latin Discretionem. Discretion is the noun form of the word Discreet, which is
defined as the quality of being careful about what you do and say so that others will not be offended.
Discretion s Latin roots also define it as to discerne: to separate or distinguish. In my opinion this
sentence refers to having the ability to be prudent, which is a great quality for one to possess because
it helps build character. Discretion is also an integral part of developing interpersonal skills, which in
turn leads to establishing relationships and shows that you are trustworthy. In this essay, I am going to
delve deeper into why discretion is an important value to have, by starting with character composition.
Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual, though morality is subjective,
in today s society it is predominantly agreed upon that someone who is of good character has certain
qualities that contribute to their decision making, trustworthiness, and intelligence. I previously
mentioned prudence, which is the ability to govern oneself by the use of reason to make good
judgements that allow you to avoid troublesome situations, which allows one to face the adversities of
life while only encountering necessary risks. This is the ultimate show of genuine character, those who
can judge for themselves and aren t afraid to admit their faults, or

The Indian Lotus ( Nelumbo Nucifera ) Via The Floating...
Internal Investigation: Exploration Juan Garcia 11/17/15 Period 2 Problem/Question What is the effect
of varying pH solutions on the rate of photosynthesis on the Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) via The
Floating Leaf Disc Assay? Background The Indian Lotus is an aquatic plant that is quite popular
among cultures as being sacred. It is often used to portray beauty as it grows from the mud unstained
and pure. It is also used today in many Asian foods. As such the growth of the Indian Lotus is one that
is very important to many cultures and societies. Knowledge of the optimum pH in which the Indian
Lotus grows can be significant due to how the pH of the environment the Indian Lotus grows in can
vary based upon pollution and other factors. Therefore in the event of high pollution, or any situation
that changes the pH of the environment botanists may be able to predict or decipher the effect of that
change on the growth of the plants in the area, specifically the Indian Lotus. The experiment can also
conclude the extent that pH affects Indian Lotus growth. It may conclude that varying pH has a slight
effect on Indian Lotus growth or even the ability to stop it from undergoing photosynthesis completely
and kill the organism. The experiment is important in general to find how pH can affect Indian Lotus
growth which can in turn affect other aspects such as the diet of locals or lead to even a decrease in
Indian Lotus which is culturally significant to cultures and religions.

Power In Animal Farm
Throughout George Orwell s Animal Farm, many different themes and ideas are presented. One of the
main themes prevalent in Animal Farm is power. Power can be seen in most aspects of today s society
and Orwell mirrors this in Animal Farm. He chooses to show this theme through Mr Jones initial
power over the entire farm, the power of the animals during the rebellion and how the pigs took
control over the farm at the end. To begin with, power is shown in Animal Farm through Mr Jones and
his power over the animals early part of the story. An example of this in the text is when the animals
were not fed. A cow then decided to break into the store shed and feed off the bins. Mr Jones was

The animals flung out at Mr Jones while he was whipping them and drove him out of his own farm.
This was more than the hungry animals could bear...they flung themselves upon their tormentors.
Orwell shows that Mr Jones does not have complete power over his animals and that the animals had
the capacity to overthrow him. The rebellion of the animals is another way of how power is shown in
Animal Farm. Finally, power is shown in Animal Farm through the pigs and how they ran the farm

Merlin s Resident Forest In Arthurian Myth
Moving on, though Geoffrey s description of Merlin s resident forest is picturesque, it must be noted
that the forest in Arthurian tradition held demonic elements, the ancestral spirits, and the forces of
nature... The Medieval society existed in a microcosm anything outside the boundaries of said society
existed the dark and unknown this was the land of monsters. In the Vita, this is where Merlin chooses
to reside, and in Robert s Merlin, Merlin becomes one of these spirits himself:
[Gawain] continued the quest for Merlin, going all through the realm of Logres and at length to Little
Britain. As he was riding through the forest at Broceliande, he heard Merlin speaking, but could not
see him. / Merlin said that he could never come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet another element exists in Merlin s sojourn from society. For example, upon seeing an old
companion recover from being a wild man tanks to a magical fountain in the forest, Merlin instructs
the man to act in service to God in tank for his recover, upon which the man replies Reverend father...
I shall joyfully stay in the woods with you, and worship God with my whole mind. Merlin, in
Geoffrey s account, continues to serve God, and as state before, espouses wisdom even through his
madness. Perhaps instead of a demonic spirit, Merlin can be understood as a hermetic saint. Neil
Thomas, for his part argues that Geoffrey... must have had to adapt recalcitrant material (which, to
judge from the analogues, portrayed Merlin as a sinner in some sense or other) so as to be able to write
a vita in the technical sense of a saint s life. Geoffrey spun Celtic and Christian tradition in such a way
as to portray Merlin in a saintly light, yet it would be imprudent (as Thomas suggests) to ignore all the
material that casts Merlin as a sinner. Regardless, Merlin s duality is again evident leaving the
audience perplexed on whether to believe in conventional understandings of monstrosity, or to believe
in Geoffrey s narrative

CHAPTER 11 QUESTIONS
1. Distinguish among depreciation, depletion, and amortization expenses.
Depreciation refers to the cost allocation of tangible long term assets; depletion refers to the cost
allocation of natural resources; and amortization refers to the cost allocation of intangible assets. All
three terms have similar underlying principles governing their use.
2. What factors must be considered in determining the periodic deprecation charges that should be
made for a company s depreciable assets?
Four separate factors must be considered in determining the periodic depreciation charges that should
be made for a company s assets. They are (1) asset cost, (2) residual or salvage value, (3) useful life,

IAS 36 differs from U.S. GAAP in that the discounted sum of future cash flows, rather than the
undiscounted sum, is used to determine whether an impairment loss exists.
13. If a non US company chooses to revalue a long term operating asset upward in accordance with
IAS 16, how is the unrealized gain on the revaluation recognized in the financial statements?
If a non U.S. company chooses to revalue a long term operating asset upward in accordance with IFRS
16, the unrealized gain on the revaluation is recognized as a revaluation equity reserve. This equity
reserve increases the reported amount of equity but is not shown as a gain in the income statement.
14. Briefly describe the three types of intangible assets in terms of amortization and impairment.
For accounting purposes, recorded intangible assets come in three varieties:
a. Intangible assets that are amortized. The impairment test for these intangibles is the same as the two
step test used for tangible long term operating assets.
b. Intangible assets that are not amortized. The impairment test for these intangibles involves a simple
one step comparison of the book value to the fair value.
c. Goodwill, which is not amortized. The goodwill impairment test is a two step process that first
involves estimating the fair value of the entire reporting unit to which the goodwill is

Superwoman And Lady
Women have had to deal with oppression for centuries. Not being able to speak freely or having the
same privileges as men can take a toll. Even in this day and age, women still face these issues, and for
years, female poets and music artists have used their creativity to express the emotions they keep
bottled up. The writer of the poem Lady, Lady , Anne Spencer, was alive during a time where women
did not have the social status that they possess today. She was an African American poet, and
important figure, during the Harlem Renaissance. Spencer s poems focused mostly on equality, nature,
and women. Both the poem, Lady, Lady and the song Superwoman by Alicia Keys, an African
American song writer, imply resiliency and strength in women who have had to deal with pressures
from the world around them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator speaks of the subject of the poem as having bourne so long the yoke of men. This Lady ,
whom the narrator is referring to, is implied to have had to deal with overwhelmingly harsh men who
have no regard for women s rights. The poet s attitude towards the woman in the poem seems to be
sympathetic because the woman lived a lifetime of unequal treatment and false perceptions because of
her gender, a similar situation for the majority of women in that time. In the song Superwoman , Alicia
Keys writes that she hangs [her] head in sorrow [at the] state of humanity. What the songwriter means
by this is that she is saddened by the situations that women are put through and her lyrics are clearly
more literal regarding her position on the issue of gender equality. The state of humanity is the issue
not being dealt with appropriately, and that society has not changed much concerning the social
superiority of men over women. Although circumstances of the characters in the song and poem are
different, they are both fed up with a male dominated

Powers of a Monopolistic Anarchy
While the Microsoft Empire maintains its status as a vast company of large scale production, readily
contributing to the national GDP, and yielding high interest and profits to its associates, criticism and
controversial accusations keep mounting. The thought of a monopoly as the economic device for good
business seems almost mind boggling to Microsoft s competing corporations, as well as the entire
economic community, legal and commercial.
Why is monopoly such an undesirable practice? Why does the Microsoft Monopoly, in particular,

In addition, it is very rare to have a truly pure monopoly. A natural monopoly, on the other hand,
implies that advantages of large scale production make it possible for a single firm to produce the
entire output of the market at lower average cost than a number of firms, each producing a smaller
quantity (What is a Monopoly).
When considering the two theories and their relationship to the software industry, it seems almost
inconceivable that there might be only one supplier of any product, because there are so many
software companies. However, if the market is considered for a particular software product, such as an
operating system, the idea seems much more plausible. Furthermore, there are several factors in the
software industry, and the operating system segment in particular, that lead to consolidation
(Monopolies and the Software Industry).
Barriers to Entry The barriers to entry for software companies are generally quite low. There is no
manufacturing equipment needed, and therefore low capital investment is required. Nonetheless,
development of an operating system is not such an effortless undertaking. It requires hundreds of
people, years to complete, and its costs exceed hundreds of millions of dollars (Barriers to Entry).
Furthermore, the company must be innovative in both design and selling techniques

A Critical Appraisal of the Components of Taxation in...
INTRODUCTION
Tax has been variously defined over the years. These definitions, when looked at as a whole gives a
more comprehensive picture of the phenomenon as opposed to a single definition. According to the
Oxford English Dictionary the word ‘tax refers to a compulsory contribution to the support of
government levied on persons, property, income, commodities, transactions, etc, now at a fixed rate
mostly proportionate to the amount on which the contribution is levied. While this serves in crude
terms to tell us what a tax is, it is however deficient in the sense that it does not reveal the purpose of
taxation. We however find more scholarly definitions in decided cases. For instance, in MATTHEWS

Various tax statutes all contain charging clauses. Under the PITA, this is found in S 1 which provides
thus:
There is hereby imposed a tax on the income of individuals, communities and families, and arising to
any trustee or executor under any settlement, trust or estate
In respect of the CITA, S 8 provides the charging clause thus:
Subject to the provisions of this Act, the tax shall, for each year of assessment , be payable at the rate
specified in subsection (1) of section 29 of this Act upon the profits of any company accruing in,
derived from, or brought into, or received in Nigeria
In the case of the VAT ACT, the charging clause is contained in S 1(1) where it is provided that:
There is hereby imposed and charged a tax to be known as the Value Added Tax which shall be
administered according to the provisions of this Act.
The effect of these provisions is to make a taxpayer liable to taxation. In reality, tax is a creation of
statute and there is no of common law or equity that makes a man liable to tax. Therefore, from time
to time whenever a dispute arises between the relevant tax authority and the taxpayer, there is a need
to establish a judicial construction of any particular provision of a tax statute. In construing the words
of a statute, the onus is on the tax authority to prove the intention of the legislature from the wordings
of the statute. Where the

Human Experimentation Argumentative Essay
Human experimentations have been performed many times by scientist in order to solve medical
mysteries in the past. These experimentations can link back to the early 1700s when George I offered
free pardon to any inmate who was willing to be injected with smallpox (Wellness Directory of
Minnesota). Human experimentation has always been a hot topic as it has been argued that it is both
necessary and also morally wrong since it can both hurt and help and individual. People have argued
that there is no other subject to be experimented on as there aren t many other animals or subjects
which share the same anatomy as humans. It can also be argued that some of the treatments performed

The three reasons which explain the motivation behind the Nazi Experimentation were to facilitate in
the survival of the Axis military personnel, to develop and test treatment methods for injuries and
illnesses which German military and occupation personnel encountered in the field, and to advance the
racial and ideological tenets of the Nazi worldview (Museum, United States Holocaust Memorial 1).
One of the earliest experiments which had occurred during the Nazi experimentation was the freezing
experiments. The reasoning given behind these experiments was to see how long German pilots
downed by enemy fire could survive from the frozen waters of the North Sea (Cohen). During the
experiment, Doctor Sigmund Rascher attempted to duplicate the cold that would be found near the

Use Of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm Essay
Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) nodes create vulnerabilities exposed to malicious software attacks.
Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use
of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT.
Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison
to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often
causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper
will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as
power consumption and size when applicable.
Keywords IoT; ECDSA; security; embedded; systems; low resource
I. INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of digital signature is to provide a means for an entity to bind its identity to a piece of
information. The process of signing entails transforming the message and some secret information
held by the entity into a tag called a signature. Elliptic Curve Digital Signature
Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the digital signature algorithm (DSA) and its
security is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). To date, no sub
exponential time algorithm is known to solve the
ECDLP in a properly selected elliptic curve group [1].
This makes Elliptic

International Differences Of Well Being
As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book
International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all
humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is
a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values.
First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I
define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains
. Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven
329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because
it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is
mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. It is still assessable, and we can estimate how well
we feel most of the time, unlike babies.
Overall, Veenhoven finds that the circumstances of being happy seem to be the same across the world
and so are the consequences of enjoying life or not (329). Veenhoven s use of surveys and statistics
makes his research believable to his audience. He shows that being happy is not complicated, and
most people know whether they are happy with life or not. I think if we looked at the specifics of what
made us happy,

Like previously mentioned in the class, I have an intense interest for Italian art since I have been in

Why Cholesterol And Know What Your Cholesterol Levels...
Learn how to prevent high cholesterol and know what your cholesterol levels actually mean. A good
time to get your blood cholesterol checked and take steps to lower it if your levels are elevated is in
September because it is National Cholesterol Education Month. National Cholesterol Education
Month is also a good time to learn about lipid profiles and about food and lifestyle choices that help
you reach personal cholesterol goals. The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) states that
adults aged 20 years or older have their cholesterol checked every four to six years to stay on track
with their cholesterol levels. To our surprise, many people do not know that their cholesterol levels are
high given that having high cholesterol generally doesn t have any symptoms. However, doctors can
administer a simple blood test called a lipoprotein profile to check your cholesterol levels. A
lipoprotein profile can measure your total cholesterol levels, including LDL (low density lipoprotein,

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2013), high cholesterol is a major risk

recommendations for cholesterol screening among young adults vary, but most experts agree on the

against the person offences recorded by the police rose by 24% in the latest year with the latest figures
representing the highest number of violence against the person offences recorded in a 12 month period
since the introduction of the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) in April 2002. The Offences
Against the Person Act (1981) defines the violent forceful infliction of physical injury as Grievous
Bodily Harm (GBH), whether this be with intent (section 18) or without intent (section 20), as
unlawfully wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm (Crown Prosecution Service, n.d.) These are
indictable only offences with the charge of GBH Section 18, with intent; actus reus (guilty act) and

In considering the offence of GBH, I shall critically consider two criminological theories and relate

The Importance Of Physical Fitness Among Children
Introduction The importance of physical activity remains crucial throughout one s entire life. An
individual s physical fitness begins at the early stages of youth and is necessary to promote a healthy
lifestyle in their future. There is currently 38.1% of American children age 2 19 that are either obese or
overweight. (Myoungock Whittemore, 2015). Since obesity among children is a growing
phenomenon, physical fitness can ensure that children are preventing diseases for their future. Today
70% of American children age 5 to 17 that are obese or overweight have at risk factors for a least one
cardiovascular disease (CVD) and another 39% have two or more risk factors (Myoungock

Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Without the fire of anger, there would be no sparks of happiness. The theme of anger can be found in
the poems Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, and an untitled poem by
Alexander Bentley. The conflicting theme of Happiness can be found in the poem A Child s Laughter
by Philip E. Bentley. The poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas portrays
the theme of anger. A line from the poem shows anger, because of a particular word choice made by
the author. The author writes, Old age should burn and rave at close of day (Thomas 2). Dylan
Thomas incorporates the words burn and rave into this line. Both of these words signify rage and

One way the poem portrays anger, is through its powerful word choice. One line of the poem states,
Burned my soul/ on your gasoline words (Bentley 1 2); and Burning hot embers/ fueled my angry

poem has a common theme of fire, but these two stanzas hit the reader the most. This stanza involves
burning and gasoline, which represents rage. This represents anger, because often times, fire can be is
in synonymous to anger. This line portrays that, because it shows how when you throw gasoline onto a
fire, it doesn t stop it. In fact, it makes it grow. Another way that the poem portrays the theme of anger,
is how the powerful imagery dominates the reader s mind. Bentley writes, Burned my soul/ on your
gasoline words/ Combusted into flames/ like a fireworks show. These lines give the reader an image of
burning fire, the faintest whiffs of gasoline, and a searing pain in the heart. The last piece of textual
evidence that proves shows a portrayal of anger in Alexander Bentley s poem is in the subtle pattern in

The Fall Of The Republic And Fall
Main Article
When articles are written about the fall of the Republic and the fall of democracy, the blame is often
attributed to one man: Julius Caesar. However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in popular history
held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was named Gaius Marius.
Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty miles south east of Rome,
Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the consulship as an archetypal rags
to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in reality he came from a good
municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the contemporary view
characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town.
Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy.
Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he
changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis of
their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited only
from men enrolled in the five classes. Instead, Marius appealed to the proletarii, who were men that
lacked the necessary property qualification. This wasn t any great innovation, as property
qualifications had already been reduced. He simply completed the next logical step. But the results of
this reform were

Visionary And Ethical Leadership Of General Curtis
Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay
Master Sergeant Noah S. Vaughan
United Sates Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy
November 5th, 2014
Senior Master Sergeant Esteban Martinez
Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay
It s late afternoon on March 9th, 1945. The sun was shining brightly through a scattered deck of
clouds dotting the sky and there was a refreshing northeasterly breeze coming off the surrounding
waters. General Curtis LeMay is standing in the thick tropical air of Northwest Field on the small
Pacific island of Guam. He watches as over three hundred B 29 Superfortress bombers launch
northward towards Tokyo where they will use new and unproven tactics for delivering the most
devastating firebombing campaign in history. Through General LeMay s vision and innovation he
changed established doctrine of how bombers should operate in the European and Pacific theaters and
enabled untold successes but at what cost to American values and law?
My purpose is to show that General LeMay was a tremendous visionary leader although he made
unethical choices and that I have been able to see times in my life where principles of his actions
resonated with me. LeMay was a visionary leader due to his ability to adapt and win current wars
while keeping the foresight to look ahead at what was needed to shape the Air Force to deter or win
future wars. He was an unethical leader because while

Descriptive Essay On Pleasant Memory
Pleasant Memory Think about a time that you have been really jubilant, a pleasant memory you have.
Whether that memory was with friends, family, on a school trip or at home, we have all had at least
one time where we have been just ecstatic. For me, one of my joyous memories is my trip to the
Bahamas. To explain my vacation and why it was so delightful, I ll break it up into three parts. First,
the plane ride there, then my actual time at Paradise Island and lastly, the plane ride home. So, first for
the plane ride there. Although we had to leave for the airport pretty early in the morning, around three
or four a.m., I was still so excited to go to Paradise Island. My parents had been there before due to it
being a free trip from father s workplace. They brought back souvenirs and told me all about the trip
and I was eager to go and now I was finally able to. The worst part about the ride there was actually
the wait to get on the plane. I did not have much fun at the airport but, we were only there for a few
hours so it ended up being fine. I was a little nervous, but mostly excited to get on the plane not only
because it was taking me to the Bahamas, but it was also my first time on a plane that I can actually
remember. While on the plane I loved looking out the window and just gazing at the view. I enjoyed
the view but, since I did get up early to get to the airport, I did end up sleeping through some of the
flight. After hours of being on my phone, sipping on soda and

I Call The Doctor-Patient-Google Relationship
My primary goal, regardless of what specialty I enter, is to emotionally comfort the patient to lay the
foundation of what I call the doctor patient google relationship. No medicine can have such a vast and
profound effect on the behavior outcome of an individual who has felt a connection with another
human behind the invisible wall of the white coat and stethoscope. Once the foundation has been laid
and a safe space has been created, I believe that only our imagination limits us to the amount of
intelligent conversations that can be had with the patients who bring forth the knowledge dumped on
them by the media outlets.
What I value most in medicine is the platform for getting to know the patients over time. I can foresee
myself to become an expert not only of the medical conditions of the patients but also who they are as
people. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I support the idea that it is worthwhile to prevent a fire than to risk lives putting out one. I am assertive
that through cooperation and meaningful discussion, we can circle back to effective patient
management practices that reward the effort to stay healthy and do not financially stress those who are
unfortunately tormented by sickness. All this can be achieved if I am able to establish emotionally
reinforced communication bridges with my patients who will receive longitudinal care under internal
medicine.
The Clinical Experience Elective will exponentially help me in my aforementioned trajectory. While it
is too early for me to choose a specialty, I am certain that internal medicine is my calling. As a
medical scribe, I have been on the clerical end of the medical team which provided key insights to
coherent functioning of the doctor and his staff. Through this elective, I can solely focus on observing
and ruminating the intricacies of the sacred doctor patient

Case Study Of Euphorbia
An unusual case of Euphorbia.tirucalli sap poisoning
ABSTRACT: Euphorbia .tirucalli sap is extremely irritating to the skin and mucosa .on accidental
exposure it causes vesication in the skin and inflammation involving eye sight in the eyes. On oral
ingestion, it acts as an irritant, causing vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and coma. It is used as a local
irritant application for procuring criminal abortion, but rarely for homicidal and suicidal purposes.
We came across a case of oral consumption of sap of Euphorbia .tirucalli for suicidal purpose. Patient
responded to supportive treatment and recovered over a week without any sequalae. This case
highlights the fact that, even though Euphorbia .tirucalli sap poisoning is very rare, these patients ...

Euphorbia tirucalli (E.tirucalli) is also known as Indian Tree Sponge, Milk Hedge, Fire stick Plant,
Pencil tree (2).
Euphorbium is an acrid milky juice exuded from stems of various euphorbius plants belonging to
Euphorbiaceae. The toxic part is latex. Toxins differ based on species (1).The latex of E.trucalli
contains poly cyclic diterpene esters (3).
The latex on oral ingestion acts as an irritant causing vomiting, diarrhea, burning sensation in the
abdomen, convulsion and coma. Irritant toxins indirectly stimulate contraction of the gastrointestinal
smooth muscles by mechanical irritation. Skin exposure produces an irritant dermatitis and ocular
exposure causes an irritant keratoconjuctivitis. Our patient had gastro intestinal symptoms (vomiting,
diarrhoea and abdominal pain).Management includes symptomatic and supportive care (1). In Europe
veterinary practitioner used this sap as vesicant. One to four drops of the juice is used as a purge. Twig

Tracing the Origins of Mardi Gras
The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the
17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons. From here, the traditional revelry of
Boeuf Gras, or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies.
On March 2, 1699, French Canadian explorer Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville arrived at a
plot of ground 60 miles directly south of New Orleans, and named it Pointe du Mardi Gras when his
men realized it was the eve of the festive holiday. Bienville also established Fort Louis de la Louisiane
(which is now Mobile) in 1702. In 1703, the tiny settlement of Fort Louis de la Mobile celebrated
America s very first Mardi Gras.
In 1704, Mobile established a secret society (Masque de la Mobile), similar to those that form our
current Mardi Gras krewes. It lasted until 1709. In 1710, the Boeuf Gras Society was formed and
paraded from 1711 through 1861. The procession was held with a huge bull s head pushed alone on
wheels by 16 men. Later, Rex would parade with an actual bull, draped in white and signaling the
coming Lenten meat fast. This occurred on Fat Tuesday.
New Orleans was established in 1718 by Bienville. By the 1730s, Mardi Gras was celebrated openly
in New Orleans, but not with the parades we know today. In the early 1740s, Louisiana s governor, the
Marquis de Vaudreuil, established elegant society balls, which became the model for the New Orleans
Mardi Gras balls of today.
The earliest

  • 2. A Research Study On Helicopter Parenting Essay College life for the twenty first century student is not what it used to be. According to an American College Health Association National College Health Assessment survey, eighty five percent of college students feel so tremendously overwhelmed they walk through the day blind and just hoping things work out (Fisher). Students lack the ability to focus and manage everything that is piled on them during class. The term helicopter parenting was first common in the 1990 s, but was first used in 1969. Now, forty seven years later, helicopter parenting has become prevalent in college students lives and the culture around people. A helicopter parent is one who takes an overprotective or excessive interest in the life of their child or children. Helicopter parenting does not start out randomly as a college student; helicopter parenting is a process that develops results. The helicopter parent issue is prevalent to many people. People from Doctor Amy Joyce to stay at home mom Jamie Porter have done studies to explain the effects of helicopter parenting. Psychologists such as Chris Meno have done research and testings to collect data on helicopter parented children. The issue of helicopter parenting is not just concerning children; it is concerning people across the country. President of Frostburg State University told Amy Joyce parents have called him to settle a dispute between their child and their roommate. • 4. Functional Analysis Disadvantages a. Describe the rationale for conducting a functional analysis. What are the benefits and limitations of a functional analysis? Functional Analysis (FA) is a tool used to identify a functional relationship. In order to establish this relationship, a problematic behavior is operationally defined. Then, the environmental antecedents and consequences of the behavior are systematically manipulated in well defined test and control conditions and the behavior is observed and measured. The goal of this is to identify the sources of reinforcement that maintain the behavior. Thus, the function of the behavior can be determined (Iwata Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). One benefit of conducting a FA is that research has shown it to be more reliable than self report measures, such as questionnaires or rating scales. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of the behavior is attention or social positive reinforcement (Iwata Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). The tangible condition is similar to the attention condition. In this condition, the therapist should allow the client free access to a preferred item prior to the session. At the beginning of the session, the therapist should remove the item and move away from the client. When the problem behavior occurs, the therapist should deliver the tangible item for about 30 seconds. Then, the therapist should move back away from the client. • 5. Symbolism In The Happy Lovers By Jean-Honor Fragonard In Jean Honoré Fragonard painting The Happy Lovers (appendix: fig. 1), viewers are able to get a glimpse into the light hearted, playful Rococo period. The Happy Lovers is a 35.5 x 47.75 in. oil painting, that was created between the years 1760 5 in France for an unnamed aristocrat; however, it can now be found in the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. The Rococo period was a result of artists resisting the stiff monarchy, and desiring open expressionism this was particularly emphasized through nature. The two great artists from this period are Fragonard and François Boucher, Fragonard s teacher. A result of Boucher teaching Fragonard, specifically in the continuation of pastoral, Boucher was a great influence. This is obvious when The Happy Lovers is compared to Boucher s The Bird Catchers (appendix: fig. 2). Both paintings include subjects of women holding bird catchers and doves, ultimately symbolizing woman s ability to control relationships. More specific to The Happy Lovers, the woman dangles the cage above the boy, who is carrying a dove, a symbol of Venus the goddess of love. However, in the bottom left quadrant of the painting there is an even larger cage with more doves, hinting at the idea that women can easily capture many men. This further expands the sensual intention Fragonard creates. In placing this scene within a secluded landscape, Fragonard emphasizes the flirtation and secretiveness between the two lovers creating an unstructured, blissful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Power Of Solar Power Introduction The South African power crisis needs little introduction as most of us spend our nights in the shadows singing Hello Darkness My Old Friend and I ve Got the Power in the hope that at some point the glorious rays of light will return. This energy crisis sees little end in sight and leaves the people of our country with a need and responsibility to find alternative sources of energy solar power is one of these solutions. Solar power is a brilliant idea as it harnesses the power of the sun and converts it into electricity, however it is very costly and it is inefficient because only 11 15% of the energy harnessed is converted into electricity. Solar panels are generally fixed at one position, usually at the angle that one s roof slopes or at some other predetermined fixed position. According to research, by moving the panel with the sun there will be a marked increase in the efficiency and power output of the solar panel. It is also claimed that temperature will affect the amount of energy produced. Thus, this project will aim to find out if there is a significant difference in efficiency as the sun moves around the solar panel and attempt to obtain the best possible efficiency by moving the panel with the sun throughout the day. Today, we are going to focus on plot twists, situational irony, and tone by exploring and analyzing two short stories. • 19. Discretion Of The Word Discretion Essay The etymology of the word Discretion is rooted in the early 1300 s, stemming from Old French Discrecion or Late Latin Discretionem. Discretion is the noun form of the word Discreet, which is defined as the quality of being careful about what you do and say so that others will not be offended. Discretion s Latin roots also define it as to discerne: to separate or distinguish. In my opinion this sentence refers to having the ability to be prudent, which is a great quality for one to possess because it helps build character. Discretion is also an integral part of developing interpersonal skills, which in turn leads to establishing relationships and shows that you are trustworthy. In this essay, I am going to delve deeper into why discretion is an important value to have, by starting with character composition. Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual, though morality is subjective, in today s society it is predominantly agreed upon that someone who is of good character has certain qualities that contribute to their decision making, trustworthiness, and intelligence. I previously mentioned prudence, which is the ability to govern oneself by the use of reason to make good judgements that allow you to avoid troublesome situations, which allows one to face the adversities of life while only encountering necessary risks. This is the ultimate show of genuine character, those who can judge for themselves and aren t afraid to admit their faults, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Internal Investigation: Exploration Juan Garcia 11/17/15 Period 2 Problem/Question What is the effect of varying pH solutions on the rate of photosynthesis on the Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) via The Floating Leaf Disc Assay? Background The Indian Lotus is an aquatic plant that is quite popular among cultures as being sacred. It is often used to portray beauty as it grows from the mud unstained and pure. It is also used today in many Asian foods. As such the growth of the Indian Lotus is one that is very important to many cultures and societies. Knowledge of the optimum pH in which the Indian Lotus grows can be significant due to how the pH of the environment the Indian Lotus grows in can vary based upon pollution and other factors. Therefore in the event of high pollution, or any situation that changes the pH of the environment botanists may be able to predict or decipher the effect of that change on the growth of the plants in the area, specifically the Indian Lotus. The experiment can also conclude the extent that pH affects Indian Lotus growth. It may conclude that varying pH has a slight effect on Indian Lotus growth or even the ability to stop it from undergoing photosynthesis completely and kill the organism. The experiment is important in general to find how pH can affect Indian Lotus growth which can in turn affect other aspects such as the diet of locals or lead to even a decrease in Indian Lotus which is culturally significant to cultures and religions. ... Power can be seen in most aspects of today s society and Orwell mirrors this in Animal Farm. He chooses to show this theme through Mr Jones initial power over the entire farm, the power of the animals during the rebellion and how the pigs took control over the farm at the end. To begin with, power is shown in Animal Farm through Mr Jones and his power over the animals early part of the story. An example of this in the text is when the animals were not fed. The rebellion of the animals is another way of how power is shown in Animal Farm. Finally, power is shown in Animal Farm through the pigs and how they ran the farm without Mr Jones. They were clearly the leaders of the farm and had power over all the other animals. The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership . Although it was outlined that all animals were equal earlier, Squealer convinces the animals that this is just to ensure that right decisions were being made. I shall joyfully stay in the woods with you, and worship God with my whole mind. Merlin, in Geoffrey s account, continues to serve God, and as state before, espouses wisdom even through his madness. Perhaps instead of a demonic spirit, Merlin can be understood as a hermetic saint. Neil Thomas, for his part argues that Geoffrey... must have had to adapt recalcitrant material (which, to judge from the analogues, portrayed Merlin as a sinner in some sense or other) so as to be able to write a vita in the technical sense of a saint s life. Geoffrey spun Celtic and Christian tradition in such a way as to portray Merlin in a saintly light, yet it would be imprudent (as Thomas suggests) to ignore all the material that casts Merlin as a sinner. Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT. Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as power consumption and size when applicable. International Differences Of Well Being As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values. First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains . Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven 329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. It is still assessable, and we can estimate how well we feel most of the time, unlike babies. Overall, Veenhoven finds that the circumstances of being happy seem to be the same across the world and so are the consequences of enjoying life or not (329). However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in popular history held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was named Gaius Marius. Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty miles south east of Rome, Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the consulship as an archetypal rags to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in reality he came from a good municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the contemporary view characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town. Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy. Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis of their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited only from men enrolled in the five classes. The creation of Buena Vista Distribution in 1953 was Disney s step towards forward integration. The creation of their own distribution firm ended their contract with their existing distributor RKO and enabled Disney to be more cost efficient by eliminating their distribution fees. Disney s acquisition of ABC in 1995 was another forward vertical integration as it was another platform when Disney could broadcast their productions. Their acquisition of ABC is another example of forward integration. Vaughan United Sates Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy November 5th, 2014 Senior Master Sergeant Esteban Martinez Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay It s late afternoon on March 9th, 1945. The sun was shining brightly through a scattered deck of clouds dotting the sky and there was a refreshing northeasterly breeze coming off the surrounding waters. General Curtis LeMay is standing in the thick tropical air of Northwest Field on the small Pacific island of Guam. He watches as over three hundred B 29 Superfortress bombers launch northward towards Tokyo where they will use new and unproven tactics for delivering the most devastating firebombing campaign in history. Through General LeMay s vision and innovation he changed established doctrine of how bombers should operate in the European and Pacific theaters and enabled untold successes but at what cost to American values and law? My purpose is to show that General LeMay was a tremendous visionary leader although he made unethical choices and that I have been able to see times in my life where principles of his actions resonated with me. LeMay was a visionary leader due to his ability to adapt and win current wars while keeping the foresight to look ahead at what was needed to shape the Air Force to deter or win future wars. He was an unethical leader because while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Descriptive Essay On Pleasant Memory Pleasant Memory Think about a time that you have been really jubilant, a pleasant memory you have. Whether that memory was with friends, family, on a school trip or at home, we have all had at least one time where we have been just ecstatic. For me, one of my joyous memories is my trip to the Bahamas. To explain my vacation and why it was so delightful, I ll break it up into three parts. First, the plane ride there, then my actual time at Paradise Island and lastly, the plane ride home. So, first for the plane ride there. Although we had to leave for the airport pretty early in the morning, around three or four a.m., I was still so excited to go to Paradise Island. My parents had been there before due to it being a free trip from father s workplace. They brought back souvenirs and told me all about the trip and I was eager to go and now I was finally able to. The worst part about the ride there was actually the wait to get on the plane. I did not have much fun at the airport but, we were only there for a few hours so it ended up being fine. I was a little nervous, but mostly excited to get on the plane not only because it was taking me to the Bahamas, but it was also my first time on a plane that I can actually remember. While on the plane I loved looking out the window and just gazing at the view. I enjoyed the view but, since I did get up early to get to the airport, I did end up sleeping through some of the flight. After hours of being on my phone, sipping on soda and ... I Call The Doctor-Patient-Google Relationship My primary goal, regardless of what specialty I enter, is to emotionally comfort the patient to lay the foundation of what I call the doctor patient google relationship. No medicine can have such a vast and profound effect on the behavior outcome of an individual who has felt a connection with another human behind the invisible wall of the white coat and stethoscope. Once the foundation has been laid and a safe space has been created, I believe that only our imagination limits us to the amount of intelligent conversations that can be had with the patients who bring forth the knowledge dumped on them by the media outlets. What I value most in medicine is the platform for getting to know the patients over time. All this can be achieved if I am able to establish emotionally reinforced communication bridges with my patients who will receive longitudinal care under internal medicine. The Clinical Experience Elective will exponentially help me in my aforementioned trajectory. While it is too early for me to choose a specialty, I am certain that internal medicine is my calling. • 49. Tracing the Origins of Mardi Gras The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons. From here, the traditional revelry of Boeuf Gras, or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies. On March 2, 1699, French Canadian explorer Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville arrived at a plot of ground 60 miles directly south of New Orleans, and named it Pointe du Mardi Gras when his men realized it was the eve of the festive holiday. Bienville also established Fort Louis de la Louisiane (which is now Mobile) in 1702. In 1703, the tiny settlement of Fort Louis de la Mobile celebrated America s very first Mardi Gras. In 1704, Mobile established a secret society (Masque de la Mobile), similar to those that form our current Mardi Gras krewes. It lasted until 1709. In 1710, the Boeuf Gras Society was formed and paraded from 1711 through 1861. The procession was held with a huge bull s head pushed alone on wheels by 16 men. Later, Rex would parade with an actual bull, draped in white and signaling the coming Lenten meat fast. This occurred on Fat Tuesday. New Orleans was established in 1718 by Bienville. By the 1730s, Mardi Gras was celebrated openly in New Orleans, but not with the parades we know today. In the early 1740s, Louisiana s governor, the Marquis de Vaudreuil, established elegant society balls, which became the model for the New Orleans Mardi Gras balls of today. The earliest ...
