How Is Roman Civilization Successful
Roman Civilization The Roman civilization was a successful and powerful civilization that began
around 753 BC. Rome was equipped with a mighty army, strong leaders, and Roman organization.
(Aaron.J.Elcock 2011) Although problems did come, Rome was able to bend and transform to fit
the ever changing world. These are some of the factors that led the Roman civilization to be one of
the most successful places in history. The Roman s way of living contributed heavily to the Western
world in political, social, and cultural matters. Romebegan as a small Italian city state ruled by a
monarchy. (Grant 1976) Over the years the city expanded from Italy to Carthage. Next, the Romans
took over the Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean as well, becoming a
civilization and eventually an empire. Then there was a transformation in Rome. An emergence of
Christianity, a division of the empire, and the Barbarians were threatening Rome. There was also
chaos in the empire because of financial troubles and natural disasters. Some thought their problems
were caused by the god s anger because of Christianity in the city. After being weakened by attacks
from multiple barbarians, the Romans were attacked and defeated by the... Show more content on

This Triumvirate was between Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. Caesar was to rule in Gaul,
Pompey in Rome, and Crassus in Asia Minor. The First Triumvirate was in fact a state within a
state. (Fuller 1965) Pompey had the veterans, Crassus the money, and Caesar the idolatry of the
people. (Fuller 1965)Then Crassus died and Pompey s jealousy of Caesar s success grew. He
demanded Caesar return to Rome. Caesar knew if he did return he would be killed. So he
gathered the army against Pompey. Before they entered Rome, Pompey had already fled to Greece.
Years later there was a Second Triumvirate. This time between Octavian who was Caesars adopted

Cuba The Land Of Opportunity Analysis

12/9/14
I found this interesting article from the New York Tribune it was called Cuba: The Land of
Opportunity. Learning about Cuba was part of the Caribbean that I enjoyed and wanted to learn
more in depth about. We touched upon different media coverage during that time and different
elements of how media affected people s views and decisions. It was written on April 18, 1919. I
thought it was interesting that the bottom of the newspaper had the information about their offices.
It listed the New York address and then it had home office listed as Cuba. The article has a letter to
exporters. It also includes stats on the current condition of Cuba at the time. Along with that there is

It focused on making the company look grand and very wealthy. Along with that it was an
advertisement for the company. It was a way for company to get known in New York along with
shows its stats and the viewpoints it had on Cuba. Since this was published in a reputable
newspaper I know this article isn t simply made up. It was truly part of that time period.
Although this comes from a reliable source the information is not reliable because it is fictitious.
However because of Yellow Journalism we learned about in class I know this source is reliable
and has been unaltered. After reading other article and referencing other sources and books I was
able to get a clear understanding of how the newspaper and the Company was trying to Portray
Cuba. A lot of times the information published was fabricated or simply didn t have any support.
Cuba was portrayed as this grand thing. However the people of Cuba were seen to be these positive
people who supported America. But in contrast the Cubans wanted the Americans out of their land.
They failed to mention of exploitation of the Cubans and the treatment of the Cubans. So in that
sense the information was fabricated. There were parts to the story that are missing. It supported
America having control of Cuba in different ways. Specifically toward the Caribbean majority of
the information

Greater Lowell Tech Narrative
It was my first race headed to Greater Lowell Tech. The first thing that happens when i walk into
Greater Lowell s track were 50 to 100 people in different schools including greater lowell there were
schools like Mystic Valley, Northeast. My heart was pounding heavily like it can t stop. luckily i
was taking deep breaths to calm myself because the quad racehaven t started yet. So then our
coach was discussing about Greater Lowell s Course but there were a lot people i was shocked
to watch. then show us the course when should we take advantage to pass people. Then the
starter guy will say all boys will meet in the starting line so i walk there seeing 50 to 100 people

The Rights Of Rejection Of The Contract
The place of examination is subject to the agreement of both parties. It may be on pre shipment
inspection , nonetheless, it is inconvenient for the buyer to do so if he is in another country and
has no representative at the place of shipment . In Bragg v Villanova , the seller received the
documents and paid the price before taking the delivery and finding that the goods was not of
contract quality. The court found that he was considered as not accepting the goods until he had
reasonable opportunities to exercise examination, therefore, he had not lost his right of
rejection. The two rights of rejection in FOB contract are applied at the similar principle of CIF
contract as discussed. In particular, if the documents are inconsistent with the contract, the buyer
is entitled to reject them and give the seller opportunity to correct the defects; he may reject the
non conforming goods even though he accepts the documents . Under section 51(3) of the Sale
of Good Acts 1979, the damages are measured by: ... the difference between the contract price
and the market or current price of the goods at the time or times when they ought to have been
delivered, or (if no time was fixed) at the time of the refusal to deliver . In case of the classic
FOB contract, the place assigned in the contract for shipment is deemed the place where the
market is relevant . The time when the goods ought to have been delivered is considered as the
time at which they ought to have been placed free on

The Title Of The Architect
The Title of the Architect
When practicing amongst the other members of the project team the architect can be seen to have
the only title that does not explicitly represent what he or she does. Unlike the self explanatory
titles such as the structural engineer or the CDM Coordinator an architect has increasingly struggled
to define what exactly they do, evident from the analysis on the role of the architect which is
predicted to shift the profession from a designers role to a managerial position, resulting in the
architect processing more scope than depth of knowledge. Yet the significance of the professional
title plays a crucial role in ability to for clients to identify what they want and need, especially in the
service sector that architecture falls within. This brings up an interesting situation for the profession
that is shifting in responsibly; if architects change the way that they participate in the building
industry then is their any need for the title architect?
The architect title is represented today by those who have accomplished the Part 3 stage of the
education process as well as registered with the Architectural Registration Board [ARB] .
Established in 1997 as part of the Architects Act, which superseded various other legislation dating
back to 1931 to 1938, which introduced the statutory governing of who could use the title Architect.
Although the ARB s intention to regulate the use of the title architect is aimed to protect the public
it consequently

Computer Input Technologies By Alan Turing
Computer Input Technologies
Introduction The interaction between humans and the machine is a relatively new science. When
considering how the inputs to a computer started out, it is interesting to observe just how little has
changed. For example, the QWERTY keyboard as part of the typewriter invented in the 1870s(2)
far predates the concept of the modern digital computer as described by Alan Turing in 1936(3).
Our tools to interact with our own machines have however been refined to be more convenient for
the average user with interfaces such as optimised USB and layout studied for ergonomy. In recent
years, input technologies have not only been improved but brand new ones have emerged like
motion control for example. The future is bright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, trackballs are still quite common as scrollwheels in computer mouse devices.
Interestingly, the invention of the computer ball mouse in 1968 sprang directly from the
invention of the trackball. In a sense, the ball mouse is a reversed version of the same device.
The trackball rolls on the surface instead of the user s hands, however the tracking operates in the
same way(1). This innovation in existing technology meant that the handheld type design would
later be upgraded as newer technologies took its place. Today, the ball mouse has been largely
replaced by the optical and laser mouse. These types of mouse devices use LEDs to emit light onto
the surface on which it sits, the reflected light is analysed by a set of photodiodes. Whether the
mouse is laser or not depends on if the LEDs emit coherent light (laser) or not (optical). The main
drawback of the optical mouse is that they only function on opaque and matte surfaces as they
depend on the light reflecting the surfaces imperfections. The precision however is much improved
from the ball mouse. Furthermore, less moving parts means more durability. The mouse really
opened up the horizon for user interface navigation making it a key turning point in the history of
input technologies.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Essay
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Introduction Among the behavioural disorders
that are commonly diagnosed, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most
prevalent among youth and children. It is a persistent disorder that is attributed to neurobehavioral
problems. About 3% 5% of all the children in America are affected by ADHD (NINDS Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Information Page, 2011). The disorder is characterized by inability
to concentrate or focus on a task and exercise behavioural inhibition that is normally related to age.

According to Psychology Mosko (2007, p. 7), neuroimaging techniques have enabled researchers to
discover discriminating patterns in the neuroanatomical function and structure in the brains of
ADHD patients. The neurobiological aspect of the research has mostly focused on studying the
fronto striatal system, which controls responses to environmental stimuli. The fronto striatal system
is comprised of a complex cortical and subcortical nuclei matrix and performs the functions of
controlling attention and processing speed of stimuli that elicits behavioural response. According to
Psychology Mosko (2007), the findings of the neuroimaging studies related to ADHD have
concluded that people affected by the disorder consistently exhibit abnormal basal ganglia, frontal
lobes, cerebella, and corpus callosa (p.7). Consequently, with each of these parts differently
influenced by the prefrontal lobes, behaviour that is normally internally guided is affected.
Additional studies have found that ADHD patients exhibit dysfunctions in their neural circuitry in
which frontal lobes, cerebella, cingulated cortex, and striatum are involved. There is ample
evidence which points to the vital roles that each of these regions play in memory and learning,
controlling attention, coordinating and sequencing behavioural responses (Psychology Mosko,
2007, p. 7). Apart from this

Sidney Crosby the Next Great One Sidney is Crosby is a phenomenal hockey player currently
playing in the NHL. Many people debate on him being the next Great One, due to multiple aspects
of his talent. Sidney
Crosby, being the talented player he is, many people compare him to Wayne Gretzky who is the
best known hockey player in history. Since hockey has evolved from when Wayne Gretzky was on
top, it makes it difficult to compare him to Sidney Crosby. But, since the evolution of hockey has
occurred, this means that Sidney Crosby is better overall, speed wise, acceleration, agility, and
endurance. Since Crosby has entered the NHL in the 2005 06 Season, he has managed to score 266

Which further excelled Crosby, and helped him attain one of the greatest achievements in hockey,
being drafted 1st overall in the
2005 NHL Entry Draft (Shattuk Saint Mary s NHL Draft Picks). With Crosby becoming the
greatest hockey player in the world, he has been able to achieve many prestigious awards.
Including the greatest award one is able to attain in hockey,
Lord Stanley s Cup, in the 2008 09 Season. Crosby was then the youngest captain to ever win the
Stanley Cup in NHL history. Other great achievement s Crosby has attained is the Art Ross
trophy, which is awarded to the player with the most scoring points in a season. Another award
he won that same season, in the 2006 07 season, was the Hart Trophy (Fitzpatrick). The final and
most likely greatest achievement Crosby has made, is being the second youngest captain in
NHL history. He did hold the reign of youngest Captain for 6 years until, Gabriel Landeskog was
named captain for the Colorado Avalanche. Landeskog was only 11 days younger than Crosby
when named, but he still took the title of youngest captain in NHL history (Sadowski). These
achievements have supported reasons why Crosby is better than Gretzky. With all the evidence
supporting Crosby s case proves that Crosby is overall a better and a stronger player than
Gretzky. Since this is accurate and supported through evidence, Crosby can now be referred to the
Great One. Since Crosby is still young he is

Why soldiers enlisted in WW1 Essay
To what extent did Australian s enlist in 1914 to defend the Mother Country ? There are many
reasons to why Australian s went to war in the 1914; everyone had different reasons for applying
for this life threatening job. Some went for the thrill, to get a job, to get away from the drought
and some people even had war fever. On the other hand, some people went because they felt like
it was the right thing to do and because everyone else was doing it. A lot of time people think
only about the soldiers that went to war and forget about the women who also enlisted as nurses
and did other important jobs. England was like home to the Australian s but is that really why they
went to war, when it comes down to it this is only a small reason... Show more content on

The Matrix And Neuromancer Comparison
Neuromancer came up with a novel approach towards science fiction, and was instrumental in
spawning multiple movies of similar genre. One of such movie is The Matrix . The reason I chose
this movie for the review is the very concept of stimulated reality in this movie being quite
analogous to the one slowly budding towards the end in the Neuromancer.
The Matrix is a sci fi heavily reliant on the theme of cyber culture and cyber punk. Like Case,
Neo too is a computer hacker, but the similarity ends there. While Case is clearly an anti hero,
Neo flies pretty close to being an ideal hero. Neo which is also an anagram of One is the one
prophesied by the Oracle to bring in the destruction of the matrix and usher in the freedom of
mankind. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I found the issue of free will most pervasive throughout the movie. Like Neuromancer,
in the Matrix, it is the AI who are calling all the shots. But unlike The Matrix , free will is not
particularly significant in Neuromancer. Mostly, because people are yet to imagine a world in
its absence. Even the characters reaction to their respective universe is quite distinct. Though
Case seemed like an anti establishment character, he follows the orders given by the AI,
Wintermute without much hesitation. In Contrast to this, except when hacking, Neo is a
perfect law abiding citizen who pays his taxes. Yet, he is the one who subsequently leads
revolution against the AI. Free will seems almost pivotal to the overall delivery of The Matrix .
Even though Neo had already made up his mind to explore the truth as soon as he decided not to
get out of car, there is a famous scene with Morpheus and the pills. The scene is particularly
significant as it reinforces the view that choice is everything. Morpheus provided Neo with two
pills. The red pill would allow him to explore the truth while the blue pill would make all this
complications disappear. Even though Morpheus truly believed that Neo was the only one who
could save mankind, he gave Neo a

The Interplay Between Human Laws And Divine Law In...
Sophocles Antigone focuses on the interplay between human laws and divine laws. Although the
divines do not directly appear in the play, their rules strongly affect characters behaviors. Although
the actions of the characters as well as the conclusion of the play demonstrate deities superior status
to humans, the divine is unable to assume certain roles in the humanworld. The play s first
stasimon, also known as the Ode to Man , is one of the most obvious clues that the divine is
superior to humans. The stasimon describes the wondrous power of human beings while stresses
that only if we honor the laws and the oath bound justice of the gods (370), can we be successful.
In the case of human refusing to respect the gods, our special status would fall. The play starts with
Antigone, late king Oedipuss daughter, agonizing to her sister Ismene over the death of her
brothers Polynices and Eteocles, who die over a bloody conflict over Oedipus succession. In her
agony, Antigone describes the bloody civil war as the final penalty to Zeus for Oedipus (3). Zeus,
according to Antigone, is the master behind Oedipus s downfall and the plague against her family.
Since Eteocles was the ruler of the city, and Polynices rebelled, Creon, the new king, decrees that
no one shall bury Polynices. Creon justifies his decisions based on the chorus s statement that
chance and the gods make him king (157) as well as the consideration that the decision would
bring stability. Creon also claims that as long as he remains reverent to Zeus (304), his words
will carry absolute authority. Loving her brother, Antigone, however, decides to go against Creon
s decree and bury her brother. She calls not burying Polynices an insult to what the gods believe
everyone deserves a proper burial. Soon, a watchman captures Antigone and brings her in front of
Creon for questioning (432 440). Antigone justifies her argument against Creon s decree by
arguing that Polynices deserves a proper burial like anyone else does since it was the intention of
Hades, the god of the underworld. She believes Creon, a human being, cannot make laws with
enough power to trample the gods unfailing, unwritten laws (456 457). Antigone s argument leaves

Mass Media s Undermining of Societal Values During Health Care Reform
There is little doubt that three years ago the American people wanted health care reform.
News media saw the controversy over health care reform as a strong issue to discuss in their
productions, and most fulfilled their responsibility as an information medium: to provide equal
opportunity for both sides of this debate to reveal the benefits of their plans and the drawbacks of
their opponents . However, when interest groups became involved in this dispute, advertising their
own beliefs against the Clinton Health Care Reform Plan, they manipulated the public by using
scare tactics. News media incorporated these ads in their coverage of the benefits and ... Show more

Before the Clinton Health Care Reform initiative was ever mentioned, news media knew society
valued a better and reformed health care system. Initially much of mass news media reflected that
the American public wanted health care reform. On March 22, 1994, the Illinois
Business Review published an article called National Health Care Reform: Comparing Four
Alternative Plans . The introduction of this article had three amazing statistics from a Gallop poll in
1991 which bluntly stated that a majority of Americans wanted health care reform.
Ninety one percent of the persons polled said they believed that there was a health care crisis, and
eighty five percent said they felt that there was a need for reform (Reich 3). Approximately eighty
percent were either very or somewhat satisfied with their health insurance, but complained about
poor coverage and cost (Reich 3). For those who could not afford health care, eighty percent said
they believed that the government should pick up the tab (Reich 3). These three statistics displayed
that a majority of Americans polled valued health care reform. The prime objective of universal
health care is to insure every citizen, especially the twenty six million Americans who have no
health care insurance and who valued this initiative the most.
Because health care reform was popular as reflected in poll data, it seemed inevitable.
When the Clinton s mentioned their plan, it won much public support. This

Impressionist artists painted in diversely different techniques and the works created were seen as
unfinished and incomplete by conservative judges. This shows that the Impressionist artist went
against the accepted way that art was presented and painted. Their paintings are known for it s
originality, it s rejection of traditional art standards, the way it introduced new art techniques and
styles, and how it represented everyday life. Impressionist paintings stood out more to the eye due
to the use of illuminating colors that were different than the more sober colors used in Academic
paintings. Many Impressionist artists were not acknowledged by the art critics but even though
Impressionism was not seen as an important style of art, they had support and reassurance from
other creative figures. Edmond Duranty described the Impressionist style as one that portrayed a
contemporary figure in a innovative way in his 1876 essay called La Nouvelle Peinture. The artists
avoided choosing a name for themselves to avoid implying a collective movement or school but
eventually some accepted the the term, Impressionists. The Impressionists painted new scenes such
as theaters, cafГ©s, concerts, and dances and sought to throw away emotional pictures and plain
accounts to adopt a perspective that simply showed what was happening.

Histone Protein
The unique and primary proteins of DNA, the highly basic histone proteins have been found to be
ubiquitous and conserved among eukaryotes. DNA and histones co exist as a closely associated
and highly coiled structure. The purpose of such a structural organization is to compact DNA;
which would otherwise be too long to be accommodated within the restricted boundaries of a single
cell. Core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and Linker histones (H1) are the two types that this
unique proteinis composed of. These Core histone exhibit a structured organization with H2A and
H2B forming dimers and H3 and H4 forming tetramers. Along with approximately 146 base pairs
of DNA, these core histones form a heterotypic nucleosome complex; weighing about 206... Show

Since this is the only part of the histone protein which exists in an uncoiled state, it is subjected to
far more modifications than the core proteins. Structurally, the H1 proteins exhibits a much longer
C terminal domain as compared to its N terminal domain surrounding a highly conserved central
globular domain. This C terminal domain is arranged as a ОІ hairpin motif associated with three
О± helices. The C terminal is lined with Lysine residues with alternating Alanine residues. The
amino acid constitution of the N and C terminals of this linker histone is detrimental for
chromatin folding. The N terminal region is composed of hydrophobic residues and the globular
domain is made up of mostly basic amino acids; however the exact composition still remains to be
characterized. Research has revealed the C terminal domain by itself is able to bring about an
efficient amount of chromatin fiber folding as the native H1 protein. Phosphorylation of this linker
histone protein is the most studied post translational modification. Research has brought forward
numerous examples of cross talk found to be essential for regulation of this protein. Acetylation of
Lysine at position 34 by HAT enzyme has been proven to be associated with activation of DNA

Computer Skills Can Improve Your Career Prospects
Computer skill is something that is of the utmost importance nowadays. With the sudden wide
spread of computers everywhere in the world today, every field of business requires their
employees to have a significant amount of computer skills. Improving on these computer skills
will help you improve your total career prospects in the near or distant future. Because of this, you
should learn all you can about computers, no matter what field you specialize in. Simply learning
how to use a personal computerreally isn t all that difficult. It may be intimidating at first, most of
all if you have never sat in front of a computer before, but with some practice, you will find that
the computer is a very easy gadget to get along with. Perhaps the best way to teach yourself how
to use a computer is by fiddling around with it and experimenting with things on your own. If
you absolutely must, you can consider partaking in a computer training course, so that you can
learn faster, but this really isn t a requirement. Any software that can be used on or installed into
a personal computer is generally produced with the user in mind. The Windows operating system
makes use of a graphical user interface, which makes the overall operation of the personal
computer exceedingly intuitive. All that is left for you to do, really, is to select icons with your
mouse to go through files and folders or open certain programs. Commands do not need to be

Energy Positioning Factors For Wireless Sensor Network
A Wireless Sensor Network can be composed of large number of tiny of sensor nodes spread in a
wide area and communicating with each other either directly or through routing mechanisms to the
other nodes. One or more of the nodes are the base station with uninterrupted battery source than
the other nodes. Since the devices in WSN are often tiny devices with small form factor the
computational power of these devices is usually small because there will not support large amount
of hardware. Furthermore as the devices are wireless they need to obtain their energy from an
inbuilt battery which in the end needs to be recharged or replaced. If the battery of a device is

There is a number of power reduction practices must be used both in the design of the circuits

also a major issue, causes all data packets involved in the transmission are discarded and must be

Servicemen And Women Keep Dogs Essay
I believe that all servicemen and woman should be able to keep the dogs they have trained. Even if
the serviceman or woman is hurt, disabled, or mentally ill. I think it is important that all
servicemen and women get their dog back.
The first reason why I think all servicemen and women should keep the dog because the trainer and
the dog formed a special bond with each other. In the article Call of Duty it says Man and dog
bonded right away, it also said He is like my silent partner says Jose He bridges three worlds:the
one I was before Afghanistan, the one I was there, and the one I became after. This last detail
shows how important the dogs are to the trainer s life after the war.
The second reason that after the war the wounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the dog s trainer leave to go home, the dogs can get confused and not work their best, which
could lead to serious injuries or even death. But if they get new dogs whenever the old dogs leave
with their trainer they could get better results. And perhaps no deaths or no serious injuries.
Other people who are against that all servicemen and women should keep the dog they that the
trained might say that the dogs are still needed in the military. I can see where they got that but the
military get new dogs all the time.
Another thing they might say is that the soldiers are too hurt or injured to have and take care of
the dogs. Most of the time disabled veterans have assistance like a family member of a close friend,
so where they could take care of the dog. The veterans need these dogs. The dogs can motivate
them, they can help them do everyday things, and they can help improve the soldier s health
physically and mentally.
All servicemen and women should be able to keep or adopt the dogs they have trained. So they
can keep the powerful bond they have, and help the soldiers get better. The military can get new
dogs but you can t get a more powerful bond than what a soldier and his dog

Theme Of Sticks And Stones
Sticks and Stones
The title of this short story derives from the nursery rhyme: Sticks and stones may break my
bones / But words will never hurt me . The theme of the rhyme is to ignore name calling and other
vicious attempts to vocally harm a person, since words will never get to them like physical
violence will (i.e. broken bones). However, the theme of the short story proves otherwise. Lewis,
the main character, was bullied as a child. He s damaged from the experience both mentally and
physically. Even though his bullies never technically laid a finger on him, his life has been shaped
by their actions. In this case, and many others, words have definitely hurt him.
The story follows three perspectives: present day Lewis, Lewis as a ... Show more content on

4, l. 28): Considering the bullies never touched Lewis (p. 2, l. 22 23: Lewis only noticed the boy
because he hadn t made it to this stage (i.e. being beaten up)) it is possible no bullying actually
happened. When he runs and hides at the beach, he sees the bullies shadows with fishing rods
with them (or what he assumes are their shadows) and then jumps over the concrete defence. He
is rescued by the people with the fishing rods. Why would they save him, if they despised him?
In Paul Fry s case the headmaster examines Lewis notes. If he or any other teacher noticed the
same violence right in the middle of the school yard, wouldn t they intervene? Disregarding
whether or not they are good teachers/people. Perhaps Lewis witnessed a small altercation and then
blew it out of proportion. It is a possibility, that he is an unreliable narrator he could have mental
problems.
Regardless of his mental state, Lewis is still emotionally damaged from his childhood. It wasn t
sticks and stones that hurt him, it was words. Maybe allusions. Whether or not his bully was a
burly, older boy or his own mind, it s clear that bullying is not just physical violence anymore. A
broken arm will heal, but words will haunt you forever. Words will come back at your weakest
moments and traumatize you all over

What Makes Donald Trump A Good President
There s a reason we don t let brand new pilots in the left seat of passenger jets. They might look
like they know how to fly, but really they only know how to crash. And there s a reason that if
Donald Trump is elected president, he will destroy America s foundation.
The Ig Nobel Prize is given to those who make earth shattering observations which on their face
are hilariously funny, but deeply true just the same. Justin Kruger and David Dunning won theirs
in 2000 for a paper entitled Unskilled and unaware of it: How difficulties in recognizing one s own

Trump s problem is not so much what he s done, but how he s done it. I decided at the start that I
wanted to profile him by describing his deals not his lifestyle or his personality. After getting to

He has to take something more. Otherwise, there s no thrill.

Techniques Used For Air Navigation Essay
The techniques used for air navigation will depend on whether the aircraft is in flight under Visual
Flight Rules (VFR) or Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). In the latter case, the pilot will navigate
exclusively using radio navigation instruments and aids such as beacons, or as directed under radar
control by air traffic control. In the case of VFR, a pilot navigates heavily using dead calculations
combined with visual (pilot) observations, referring to appropriate maps. This can be supplemented
using radio navigation aids.
Given the flight plan and the position of the aircraft, the flight management system calculates the
route to be taken. The driver can take this course manually, or the autopilot can be configured to
take the course.
The flight management system mode is normally called LNAV or lateral navigation for the lateral
flight plan and VNAV or vertical navigation for the vertical flight plan. VNAV provides targets and
speeds of height and altitude, and LNAV provides a balanced control of automatic piloting.

In The Film Farewell My ConcubineAndThe King And The Clown
Drawing on the two films Farewell my Concubine and The King and the Clown will further
explore how homosexuality is represented among China and South Korea. The film, Farewell my
Concubine was one of the first and most significant discussions towards homosexuality being
depicted on screen. It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social
upheavals between the 1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film
raises the attitude of homosexualityin the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for
the Chinese and Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to
stimulate the inherent of the Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were
tolerated during the era (Lau 1995, 22). Zheng further suggested that the film was also a chance to
understand the homophobic anxiety of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history
(Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and
homosexuality cannot coexist. The main protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily
reinforced by the power structure within the environment through harsh symbolic rapes. Lau
suggested that the symbolic rapes, such as the loss of finger and getting a pipe forced into the
mouth are indications of homosexuality (Lau 1995, 23). According to Zheng, the scene when Dieyi

In using the value chain concept, the total activities undertaken by a business are split into Primary

These challenges demand a coherent response, forcing people to think better.
Public discussion is a key part of the deliberative arts, which teach students how to identify and
develop a plan to solve a problem. The first art is framing, in which the group identifies all
potential options for achieving a goal. The next art is democratic deliberation, where students
discuss each option and judge it in relation to the group s goal. The next is working together for
mutual goals, wherein each member has to resist the urge to solve the problem on their own.
Students must also learn how to work together over an extended time, and how to evaluate their
own goals, actions, and results (Fleming 43 44).
A high school business teacher in Howard, South Carolina used these practices together to show his
students how to affect change. He obtained a grant from a local university to study the community s
cash flow. He took the problem to his students, who then conducted meetings with local business
owners, consulted with county auditor, and surveyed community members. From the data they
found that people were spending money in larger cities some distance away. The class published
the results, and local residents read the study and responded by buying more locally. Annual taxes
exceeded projections, and the auditor estimated that taxes infused six to seven million dollars into
the local economy. This project

I started teaching Mathematics at La Quinta middle school back in 1988. my third year teaching
The state was trying to revolutionize mathematics teaching in there starting at the middle school
level. it was called Renaissance math. cut away from the textbook approach and relied heavily on
activities, Cooperative grouping, and somatic units. we spent a lot of time working on Cooperative

really loved the Cooperative grouping approach, but as you can imagine especially with middle

Introduce the kids to Cooperative groupings we first talked about the roles that each student had
within their group. I usually had 8 groups within the classroom. and I usually had numbers

4 students, sometimes or 5 students in a group. the four roles which I had students use were the
group manager (Responsible for keeping everyone on task and encourage them to do their best
work), the recorder (All the writing for the group and is The lead when it comes to put in a

To transform a good company to great company is all manages dream, but only few of them

very difficult, because in different era, different industry companies face different opportunities

In the same time, Wells Fargo recruited talented people into the companywithout any specific job,
because the CEO believed that these smart people could help company to face and deal with the
future changes and difficulties (Collins, 2001, p.42). Well Fargo is easy to adapt to a changing
world when banking deregulation arrived. Moreover, Wells Fargo went three times higher than
general stock market which the banking fell 59 percent behind. CEO of Wells Fargo, Dick
Cooley a level 5 leader, understand three simple truths. First, if you begin with who, rather than
what, you can more easily adapt to a changing world. Second, if you have the right people on the
bus, there are no problem to motivate and manage people goes. Right people are self motivated by
the inner drive to produce the best results, and right people don t need to be tightly managed, they
know what they should or should not do. Third, if you have the wrong people on the bus, you won
t get to the place where you want to go, whatever how hard to motivate and manage them. Right
people are the most important asset in the company. Right people can turn a nearly bankruptcy
company to Fortune 500 company.
The third reason why good to great companies outperform, is they do not cover up the bad news
(confront the brutal facts). Nobody likes to hear the bad news, but we have to facing it and take

What The Hell Is Water By David Foster Wallace
What the hell is water? This is Water was originally given as a speech to college students before
it was published in essay form. Essayist, David Foster Wallace, in his essay This is Water ,
addresses the importance of awareness and perceptiveness of others. He believes this and the
proper education can help you become well adjusted to the world around you. He adopts a
humorous and important tone in order to accomplish his rhetorical purpose.
Wallace establishes a humorous tone in the first section to convey his argument. There are these two
young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who
nods at them and says, Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit,
and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (233)
This anecdote brings awareness to the fact the many people don t understand what is going on
around them and why Wallace believes it is important to be conscious of what is happening around
you. This is not a matter of virtue...and to see and interpret everything through this lens of self.
(233) Wallace states that it is hard to get into a state of awareness because humans have their hard
wired default setting . People need to get out of their own self centered habits and see things in a
different point of view. By using a humorous tone, Wallace can effectively get people on his side of
the argument.
Wallace shifts to a more realistic example

Key Elements Of A Stress Management Program
1.Three things are necessary for stress to occur: a stressor, a perception of stress, and a stress
response. The three main elements of a stress management program include the elimination
/modification/reduction of the number of stressors, an alteration of our perceptions, and the
reduction/modification/control of the stressresponse.
2.Often, when we think of stress, we automatically think of the bad kind. In all reality, stress isn
t always a bad thing; it is just the body s response to changes that create some demands in our
lives. There are many different positive stressors that are short term and motivate us as we work
to improve our performance in our day to day lives. It is important to note that these positive
stressors have the potential to cause some distress at a certain point. There is a peak at which
stress switches from eustress to distress. Eustress or good stress increases performance up to the
peak. Once the peak is reached, distress or bad stress kicks in and performance declines. When
that certain amount of stress is reached and the tipping point occurs, we may need to use various
stress management strategies to help us get back on the right track and alleviate some of this
distress we are feeling.
3.Stress, to a certain degree, is a necessity in our lives. It gives us precious, powerful fight or flight
hormones that have the ability to keep us safe in times of danger. Along with that, small amounts of
stress often help us perform tasks more

Rivers Of Zadaa Analysis
e Compromise of 1850 ostensibly was a prudent solution to the issue of slavery in borderline states.
However, it ultimately led to cataclysmic bloodshed and contributed to the United States escalation
into civil war. Compromise is not necessarily the best way to resolve a conflict because
compromise can lead to prolonged feelings of acrimony and antipathy among opposing groups and
eventually incur even greater conflict. For example, in D.J. MacHale s Rivers of Zadaa, the
belligerent Batu and Rokador tribes experience resentment towards one another because of a
tenuous treaty between the two. Likewise, in the T.V. series Gundam, conflicts between naturally
born humans and genetically enhanced humans escalate into war despite the valiant efforts

First, both R charts show subgroup ranges that are within the control limits, which suggests that
the variation between subgroups is consistent. However, we can clearly see from the X bar chart
for finger height that this process is not in control. Moreover, this seems to be a substantial
problem, as these limits are violated frequently. Exhibit 5 shows the graphs for finger height and
pod weight in each shift. The pod weight graphs for Shift A, B and C shows that processes are in
control. Finger height graphs for shift B shows that process is out of control as several points
fall outside of the control limits. Finger height shift A and C are in control but many points are
close to upper control limits in the X bar charts. From this analysis we conclude that the process
involved in finger height is problematic and should be optimized before moving forward on
analysis of other parts of the overall process. The regular violation of control limits may point to a
significant contribution to overall quality control rejections. III. Quality Check Type of Defects

declined. The reported defective rate from the operators had decreased from under 1% to 0.5% and
the defective rate from the central process auditors had

A World Of Difference In James Sire s The Universe Next Door
A World of Difference (Introduction): In the book The Universe Next Door written by James
Sire begins with a brief explanation of what a Worldview is. As stated in the book by Sire, The
essence of a worldview lies deep in the inner recesses of the human self. A Worldview involves
the mind, but it is first of all a commitment, a matter of the soul. It is spiritual orientation more
than it is a matter of mind alone (pg.20, Sire). The author states that it is from the heart that all
one s thoughts and actions proceed. The basis of the introduction of Sire s book is answering
the seven basic questions of worldview, including what is prime reality the really real? what is
the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us? what is a human being? what happens
to a person after death? Why is it possible to know anything at all? And finally, how do we know
what is right and wrong? (pg.22). Also, the author asserts that by being able to answer some or
many of the seven worldview questions that an individual has, then people can form their own
worldviews for themselves. Sire discusses nine different worldviews by answering those seven
questions, explaining them and depicting what each worldview system believes and does not. Thus,
Sire closes the introduction of the book with two questions, Which is your universe? And Which are
the universes next door? (pg. 24 Sire). A Universe Charged with The Grandeur of God(Christian
Theism): Sire begins chapter one discussing

Using Graphs And Charts With Color And Good Title Makes...
Summary of the Article
The authors think using appropriate graphs or charts with color and good title makes audience easy
to understand the contents. First, choosing correct graphs and charts. Each graph and chart has a
different function. For example, Pie chart shows the percentage of a whole. Understanding the
function of graphs and charts is important to tell messages. Second, using color. They think the
foregrounding color for texts must opposite color to the background color, because audience can
read and understand the main points easily. Third, deciding preferable title. Title should be simple
and help the audience to get to the point of graph and chart. The authors say using graphs and charts
is also useful in a document. However, people should put them with introduction to make readers
understand what they mean, and put them near the arguments to emphasize the point. People
shouldn t use many of graphs and charts because they give audience less impression (Lynch and
Golen, 2002).

Critical Success Factors
Quality is a very important factor in restaurants because a visit in a restaurant is usually something
people do to enjoy rather something that is of vital importance. Even if the prices for the meals in
a restaurant are low and the delivery times short this cannot compensate for poor quality of the food
, specially also because this is a health aspect. This makes it necessary to implement a quality
controlsystem to ensure that the quality of the food is always on a high level.
In a restaurant, there are 6 important areas which have to be considered.

Analysis Of A Walk In The Woods
Bill Bryson is the author and the main character of the novel A Walk in The Woods. Bryson
came from Britain over twenty years ago. He brought along his friend Katz to reflect and
reacquaint his discovery on a 2,100 mile of the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail stretches
from the two states of Georgia to Maine. They will be discussing their hilarious jokes that were
witnessed in this novel. Here are few examples: Bryson said he wanted to use the bathroom in the
woods, Mary Ellen was the controlling and impatient camper they met, and what Mary Ellen called
and did for Bryson and Katz while on the trail. Bill Brysonand his friend Katz are determined to
experience the Appalachian Trail, which creates amusing stories.
First, Bill himself is hilarious. For example, the reader writes this quote: I wanted a little of that
swagger that comes with being able to gaze at a far horizon through eyes of chipped granite and
say with a slow, manly sniff, Yeah, I ve shit in woods. (Bryson 4) Bill Bryson said that because
the restrooms on the trail were disgusting and completely appalling to go into. He probably meant
that they were all taken by other camper and that he couldn t wait so he decided to use the
restroom in the woods. Or he wanted to go in the restroom in the woods to prove a point to show
other campers and animals that the woods are just nature.
Second, Mary Ellen is one example of amusing by this quote in the novel: When s your birthday?
she said to me.

Washington Irving and Romanticism Essays
The short stories of Washington Irving are examples of the literary movement of Romanticism and
its characteristics which are evidenced in this author s works. These characteristics are sometimes
found in abundant quantities or limited amounts in each of his short stories. However, no matter
what short story Washington Irvingwrote, the Age of Romanticismand its defining characteristics are
found in each of his selections. So, too, do each of the author s short stories present a unique study
about the author s intentions for creating his work. In Washington Irving s selection The Three

Romanticism as a conviction that intuition, imagination, and emotion are inferior to reason is often
thought as the best known characteristic. It was used to show the human abilities and the source for
the subjects. This helps us to understand the world around us and also how we take part in it.
Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to
making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the
emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better
understand the emotion of this short story. He is a true enchanter, Irving states, whose spell operates
not only upon the sense, but upon the imagination and the heart. When they are stranded he uses
tone showing that they were happy and felt a sort of power that they were the kings of this island.
Then he changes it to anger and a fight for the ambergris when they discovered it. When the
ambergris is taken away from them by the new landowners, he shows the emotion of
disappointment. The quote, All kingdoms, however, are doomed to revolution, conclusion, or
decay; and so it fared with the empire of the three kings of Bermuda. is a powerful quote showing
the emotion in Irving s tone. Romanticism as a conviction that poetry is superior to science is a
common characteristic because of the growing popularity of poetry at the time. Many times the

Analysis Of Lucretius The Mind And The Spirit Will Die
Is death truly bad for the one who dies? Fred Feldman argues that it is bad for the person who
dies because it deprives the person of good things that would have happened if he or she had
lived. This argument takes more of a what if? standpoint, and is weak. A stronger belief, held by
Lucretius in his essay The Mind and the Spirit Will Die , is that deathis not bad for the one who is
dead because the spirit is composed of matter incapable of surviving without the body, and
therefore, when one dies they can no longer suffer. Therefore, young John Doe s death of being
run over by a trolley and dying is not bad for him.
The mind is physical and composed of matter. Lucretius argues in a passage from his The Mind
and The Spirit Will Die several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucretius considers the situation of when the body is infected by illness to provide an example
that proves this. When the body is infected by a contagion, the mind is often affected as well.
For example, the mind can speak foolishly, or distractedly, and one can doze off due to
drowsiness, where they are not yet awake or asleep and not hear voices or recognize faces
around them, or in a coma, shut off and not be alive or dead. Because the mind is obviously
invaded by the disease, it must be destructible. Therefore, if the mind is destructible, and can be
affected to violent illnesses, it is hard to believe that it can survive in open air without a body to
protect it. Lucretius also considers an objection to this claim, and suggest a world in which the
spirit or mind is immortal. If the body has five senses, the mind must as well. However, a spirit,
departed from the body, cannot have bodily parts like eyes, a nose, a hand, etc. and without
these it cannot perceive the senses or be sentient or exist. In addition, he questioned, that if the
spirit is a immortal and slipped into the body at birth, why does it not have any memory of its
earlier existence? If it has no memory of its previous existence, then it must be a new creation
and be able to be born, like the body, and previous spirits must die and die with the body.
Furthermore, if the spirit existed before the body, it would contradict the fact that the mind and
body are one in the same and grow together if the spirit had a prior existence. Overall, the spirit
must die with the body, as it cannot live without it and it wouldn t make sense if it were an entity
within itself. So, young John Doe s mind, could not exist after he is run over by the

Identity, Work and Labor Essays
What are the differences between work and labor? There are many differences between work
and labor. At the same time, it is complex to point out these differences because they are subtle.
To illustrate one difference between work and labor, here is an example from a building site. The
manager or contractor organizes the structure of the tasks that need to be executed. The laborers
are those who are doing the heavy work, laying bricks, digging the holes and carrying the lumber.
The manager, foreman and the laborers, however, are all working at the site. It is only those doing
the heavy work that would be considered to be laboring.

vacations or to explore new things in their life. It was really hard for me to see how they became
slaves to their work and didn t receive extra payment for the extra time they worked for years and
years. Some of these people retired and were so disrupted in their lives that they didn t know what
to do. Shortly after they retired they became sick and died. The work gave meaning to their life.
The author, in the Ant and Grasshopper , Aesop (86), the author describes that the ant works very
hard during summer to store food for the winter. She labors through the task while the grasshopper
sang and didn t care about the winter. Life is so much more intricate than this; people are a lot
more complex than insects and it is not always easy to accomplish those tasks that the workers
or the boss had impose on their selves to accomplish a specific task or project. Their level of
constant worry and pressure is intensified when they have a dead line to finish a task.
Nevertheless in the corporate world people have to follow certain schedule. For example the
employees at some large companies need to sign in and out when they arrive at work and

We are against this concept. Science has proven that when you bulk a muscle, it loses it s elastic
qualities. As a result, the center of the muscle is shortened, balled up, and pulled away from
connective tissue which connects/holds muscles to the joints. This is called muscle hypertrophy.
Science has shown that it can have an adverse effect on athletic movement. This puts more stress
on the ligaments and tendons and causes muscular imbalances. Compare the way a human body is
made to a trampoline. A trampoline has a webbing or net in the middle which we jump on. All of
the focus and attention is usually on the net, similar to how most of the attention is usually put on
the size of the athlete s muscles. But what is actually firing or creating most of the power? Is it the
webbing or the springs? Think about it, the springs that are connected to the skeleton of the
trampoline are actually absorbing most of the shock applied to the trampoline. The springs reverse
that energy and catapults a person high into the air. So we have a net, that is connected to a spring,
that is connected to the skeleton of the trampoline. The human body is made the same way. We have
muscles that are attached to ligaments and tendons that are connected to skeletal bone. Our
philosophy of power is this: plyometrics has proven to be the best way to improve muscle elasticity
and connective tissue strength. There is also a timing that comes along with plyometric

  • 2. How Is Roman Civilization Successful Roman Civilization The Roman civilization was a successful and powerful civilization that began around 753 BC. Rome was equipped with a mighty army, strong leaders, and Roman organization. (Aaron.J.Elcock 2011) Although problems did come, Rome was able to bend and transform to fit the ever changing world. These are some of the factors that led the Roman civilization to be one of the most successful places in history. The Roman s way of living contributed heavily to the Western world in political, social, and cultural matters. Romebegan as a small Italian city state ruled by a monarchy. (Grant 1976) Over the years the city expanded from Italy to Carthage. Next, the Romans took over the Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean as well, becoming a civilization and eventually an empire. Then there was a transformation in Rome. An emergence of Christianity, a division of the empire, and the Barbarians were threatening Rome. There was also chaos in the empire because of financial troubles and natural disasters. Some thought their problems were caused by the god s anger because of Christianity in the city. After being weakened by attacks from multiple barbarians, the Romans were attacked and defeated by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This Triumvirate was between Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. Caesar was to rule in Gaul, Pompey in Rome, and Crassus in Asia Minor. The First Triumvirate was in fact a state within a state. (Fuller 1965) Pompey had the veterans, Crassus the money, and Caesar the idolatry of the people. (Fuller 1965)Then Crassus died and Pompey s jealousy of Caesar s success grew. He demanded Caesar return to Rome. Caesar knew if he did return he would be killed. So he gathered the army against Pompey. Before they entered Rome, Pompey had already fled to Greece. Years later there was a Second Triumvirate. This time between Octavian who was Caesars adopted son, Lepidus, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cuba The Land Of Opportunity Analysis Navneet Singh Media Project Professor Lopez 12/9/14 I found this interesting article from the New York Tribune it was called Cuba: The Land of Opportunity. Learning about Cuba was part of the Caribbean that I enjoyed and wanted to learn more in depth about. We touched upon different media coverage during that time and different elements of how media affected people s views and decisions. It was written on April 18, 1919. I thought it was interesting that the bottom of the newspaper had the information about their offices. It listed the New York address and then it had home office listed as Cuba. The article has a letter to exporters. It also includes stats on the current condition of Cuba at the time. Along with that there is picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It focused on making the company look grand and very wealthy. Along with that it was an advertisement for the company. It was a way for company to get known in New York along with shows its stats and the viewpoints it had on Cuba. Since this was published in a reputable newspaper I know this article isn t simply made up. It was truly part of that time period. Although this comes from a reliable source the information is not reliable because it is fictitious. However because of Yellow Journalism we learned about in class I know this source is reliable and has been unaltered. After reading other article and referencing other sources and books I was able to get a clear understanding of how the newspaper and the Company was trying to Portray Cuba. A lot of times the information published was fabricated or simply didn t have any support. Cuba was portrayed as this grand thing. However the people of Cuba were seen to be these positive people who supported America. But in contrast the Cubans wanted the Americans out of their land. They failed to mention of exploitation of the Cubans and the treatment of the Cubans. So in that sense the information was fabricated. There were parts to the story that are missing. It supported America having control of Cuba in different ways. Specifically toward the Caribbean majority of the information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Rights Of Rejection Of The Contract The place of examination is subject to the agreement of both parties. It may be on pre shipment inspection , nonetheless, it is inconvenient for the buyer to do so if he is in another country and has no representative at the place of shipment . In Bragg v Villanova , the seller received the documents and paid the price before taking the delivery and finding that the goods was not of contract quality. The court found that he was considered as not accepting the goods until he had reasonable opportunities to exercise examination, therefore, he had not lost his right of rejection. The two rights of rejection in FOB contract are applied at the similar principle of CIF contract as discussed. In particular, if the documents are inconsistent with the contract, the buyer is entitled to reject them and give the seller opportunity to correct the defects; he may reject the non conforming goods even though he accepts the documents . Under section 51(3) of the Sale of Good Acts 1979, the damages are measured by: ... the difference between the contract price and the market or current price of the goods at the time or times when they ought to have been delivered, or (if no time was fixed) at the time of the refusal to deliver . In case of the classic FOB contract, the place assigned in the contract for shipment is deemed the place where the market is relevant . The time when the goods ought to have been delivered is considered as the time at which they ought to have been placed free on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Title Of The Architect The Title of the Architect When practicing amongst the other members of the project team the architect can be seen to have the only title that does not explicitly represent what he or she does. Unlike the self explanatory titles such as the structural engineer or the CDM Coordinator an architect has increasingly struggled to define what exactly they do, evident from the analysis on the role of the architect which is predicted to shift the profession from a designers role to a managerial position, resulting in the architect processing more scope than depth of knowledge. Yet the significance of the professional title plays a crucial role in ability to for clients to identify what they want and need, especially in the service sector that architecture falls within. This brings up an interesting situation for the profession that is shifting in responsibly; if architects change the way that they participate in the building industry then is their any need for the title architect? The architect title is represented today by those who have accomplished the Part 3 stage of the education process as well as registered with the Architectural Registration Board [ARB] . Established in 1997 as part of the Architects Act, which superseded various other legislation dating back to 1931 to 1938, which introduced the statutory governing of who could use the title Architect. Although the ARB s intention to regulate the use of the title architect is aimed to protect the public it consequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Computer Input Technologies By Alan Turing Computer Input Technologies Introduction The interaction between humans and the machine is a relatively new science. When considering how the inputs to a computer started out, it is interesting to observe just how little has changed. For example, the QWERTY keyboard as part of the typewriter invented in the 1870s(2) far predates the concept of the modern digital computer as described by Alan Turing in 1936(3). Our tools to interact with our own machines have however been refined to be more convenient for the average user with interfaces such as optimised USB and layout studied for ergonomy. In recent years, input technologies have not only been improved but brand new ones have emerged like motion control for example. The future is bright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, trackballs are still quite common as scrollwheels in computer mouse devices. Interestingly, the invention of the computer ball mouse in 1968 sprang directly from the invention of the trackball. In a sense, the ball mouse is a reversed version of the same device. The trackball rolls on the surface instead of the user s hands, however the tracking operates in the same way(1). This innovation in existing technology meant that the handheld type design would later be upgraded as newer technologies took its place. Today, the ball mouse has been largely replaced by the optical and laser mouse. These types of mouse devices use LEDs to emit light onto the surface on which it sits, the reflected light is analysed by a set of photodiodes. Whether the mouse is laser or not depends on if the LEDs emit coherent light (laser) or not (optical). The main drawback of the optical mouse is that they only function on opaque and matte surfaces as they depend on the light reflecting the surfaces imperfections. The precision however is much improved from the ball mouse. Furthermore, less moving parts means more durability. The mouse really opened up the horizon for user interface navigation making it a key turning point in the history of input technologies. The Keyboard The keyboard has been for decades the main textual input device. In terms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Essay Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Introduction Among the behavioural disorders that are commonly diagnosed, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent among youth and children. It is a persistent disorder that is attributed to neurobehavioral problems. About 3% 5% of all the children in America are affected by ADHD (NINDS Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Information Page, 2011). The disorder is characterized by inability to concentrate or focus on a task and exercise behavioural inhibition that is normally related to age. There are several warning signs which can indicate the possibility that a child may be affected by the disorder. These include difficulties adhering to instructions,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Psychology Mosko (2007, p. 7), neuroimaging techniques have enabled researchers to discover discriminating patterns in the neuroanatomical function and structure in the brains of ADHD patients. The neurobiological aspect of the research has mostly focused on studying the fronto striatal system, which controls responses to environmental stimuli. The fronto striatal system is comprised of a complex cortical and subcortical nuclei matrix and performs the functions of controlling attention and processing speed of stimuli that elicits behavioural response. According to Psychology Mosko (2007), the findings of the neuroimaging studies related to ADHD have concluded that people affected by the disorder consistently exhibit abnormal basal ganglia, frontal lobes, cerebella, and corpus callosa (p.7). Consequently, with each of these parts differently influenced by the prefrontal lobes, behaviour that is normally internally guided is affected. Additional studies have found that ADHD patients exhibit dysfunctions in their neural circuitry in which frontal lobes, cerebella, cingulated cortex, and striatum are involved. There is ample evidence which points to the vital roles that each of these regions play in memory and learning, controlling attention, coordinating and sequencing behavioural responses (Psychology Mosko, 2007, p. 7). Apart from this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sidney Crosby the Next Great One Sidney Crosby the Next Great One Sidney is Crosby is a phenomenal hockey player currently playing in the NHL. Many people debate on him being the next Great One, due to multiple aspects of his talent. Sidney Crosby, being the talented player he is, many people compare him to Wayne Gretzky who is the best known hockey player in history. Since hockey has evolved from when Wayne Gretzky was on top, it makes it difficult to compare him to Sidney Crosby. But, since the evolution of hockey has occurred, this means that Sidney Crosby is better overall, speed wise, acceleration, agility, and endurance. Which further excelled Crosby, and helped him attain one of the greatest achievements in hockey, being drafted 1st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft (Shattuk Saint Mary s NHL Draft Picks). With Crosby becoming the greatest hockey player in the world, he has been able to achieve many prestigious awards. Including the greatest award one is able to attain in hockey, Lord Stanley s Cup, in the 2008 09 Season. Crosby was then the youngest captain to ever win the Stanley Cup in NHL history. Other great achievement s Crosby has attained is the Art Ross trophy, which is awarded to the player with the most scoring points in a season. Another award he won that same season, in the 2006 07 season, was the Hart Trophy (Fitzpatrick). The final and most likely greatest achievement Crosby has made, is being the second youngest captain in NHL history. He did hold the reign of youngest Captain for 6 years until, Gabriel Landeskog was named captain for the Colorado Avalanche. Landeskog was only 11 days younger than Crosby when named, but he still took the title of youngest captain in NHL history (Sadowski). These achievements have supported reasons why Crosby is better than Gretzky. With all the evidence supporting Crosby s case proves that Crosby is overall a better and a stronger player than Gretzky. Since this is accurate and supported through evidence, Crosby can now be referred to the Great One. Since Crosby is still young he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many reasons to why Australian s went to war in the 1914; everyone had different reasons for applying for this life threatening job. Some went for the thrill, to get a job, to get away from the drought and some people even had war fever. On the other hand, some people went because they felt like it was the right thing to do and because everyone else was doing it. • 11. The Matrix And Neuromancer Comparison Neuromancer came up with a novel approach towards science fiction, and was instrumental in spawning multiple movies of similar genre. One of such movie is The Matrix . The reason I chose this movie for the review is the very concept of stimulated reality in this movie being quite analogous to the one slowly budding towards the end in the Neuromancer. The Matrix is a sci fi heavily reliant on the theme of cyber culture and cyber punk. Like Case, Neo too is a computer hacker, but the similarity ends there. While Case is clearly an anti hero, Neo flies pretty close to being an ideal hero. Neo which is also an anagram of One is the one prophesied by the Oracle to bring in the destruction of the matrix and usher in the freedom of mankind. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I found the issue of free will most pervasive throughout the movie. Like Neuromancer, in the Matrix, it is the AI who are calling all the shots. But unlike The Matrix , free will is not particularly significant in Neuromancer. Mostly, because people are yet to imagine a world in its absence. Even the characters reaction to their respective universe is quite distinct. Though Case seemed like an anti establishment character, he follows the orders given by the AI, Wintermute without much hesitation. In Contrast to this, except when hacking, Neo is a perfect law abiding citizen who pays his taxes. Yet, he is the one who subsequently leads revolution against the AI. Free will seems almost pivotal to the overall delivery of The Matrix . Even though Neo had already made up his mind to explore the truth as soon as he decided not to get out of car, there is a famous scene with Morpheus and the pills. The scene is particularly significant as it reinforces the view that choice is everything. Morpheus provided Neo with two pills. The red pill would allow him to explore the truth while the blue pill would make all this complications disappear. Even though Morpheus truly believed that Neo was the only one who could save mankind, he gave Neo a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the divines do not directly appear in the play, their rules strongly affect characters behaviors. Although the actions of the characters as well as the conclusion of the play demonstrate deities superior status to humans, the divine is unable to assume certain roles in the humanworld. The play s first stasimon, also known as the Ode to Man , is one of the most obvious clues that the divine is superior to humans. The stasimon describes the wondrous power of human beings while stresses that only if we honor the laws and the oath bound justice of the gods (370), can we be successful. In the case of human refusing to respect the gods, our special status would fall. The play starts with Antigone, late king Oedipuss daughter, agonizing to her sister Ismene over the death of her brothers Polynices and Eteocles, who die over a bloody conflict over Oedipus succession. In her agony, Antigone describes the bloody civil war as the final penalty to Zeus for Oedipus (3). Zeus, according to Antigone, is the master behind Oedipus s downfall and the plague against her family. Since Eteocles was the ruler of the city, and Polynices rebelled, Creon, the new king, decrees that no one shall bury Polynices. Creon justifies his decisions based on the chorus s statement that chance and the gods make him king (157) as well as the consideration that the decision would bring stability. Creon also claims that as long as he remains reverent to Zeus (304), his words will carry absolute authority. Loving her brother, Antigone, however, decides to go against Creon s decree and bury her brother. She calls not burying Polynices an insult to what the gods believe everyone deserves a proper burial. Soon, a watchman captures Antigone and brings her in front of Creon for questioning (432 440). Antigone justifies her argument against Creon s decree by arguing that Polynices deserves a proper burial like anyone else does since it was the intention of Hades, the god of the underworld. She believes Creon, a human being, cannot make laws with enough power to trample the gods unfailing, unwritten laws (456 457). Antigone s argument leaves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mass Media s Undermining of Societal Values During Health Care Reform There is little doubt that three years ago the American people wanted health care reform. News media saw the controversy over health care reform as a strong issue to discuss in their productions, and most fulfilled their responsibility as an information medium: to provide equal opportunity for both sides of this debate to reveal the benefits of their plans and the drawbacks of their opponents . However, when interest groups became involved in this dispute, advertising their own beliefs against the Clinton Health Care Reform Plan, they manipulated the public by using scare tactics. Page 2 Before the Clinton Health Care Reform initiative was ever mentioned, news media knew society valued a better and reformed health care system. Initially much of mass news media reflected that the American public wanted health care reform. On March 22, 1994, the Illinois Business Review published an article called National Health Care Reform: Comparing Four Alternative Plans . The introduction of this article had three amazing statistics from a Gallop poll in 1991 which bluntly stated that a majority of Americans wanted health care reform. Ninety one percent of the persons polled said they believed that there was a health care crisis, and eighty five percent said they felt that there was a need for reform (Reich 3). Approximately eighty percent were either very or somewhat satisfied with their health insurance, but complained about poor coverage and cost (Reich 3). For those who could not afford health care, eighty percent said they believed that the government should pick up the tab (Reich 3). These three statistics displayed that a majority of Americans polled valued health care reform. The prime objective of universal health care is to insure every citizen, especially the twenty six million Americans who have no health care insurance and who valued this initiative the most. Because health care reform was popular as reflected in poll data, it seemed inevitable. When the Clinton s mentioned their plan, it won much public support. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impressionist paintings stood out more to the eye due to the use of illuminating colors that were different than the more sober colors used in Academic paintings. Many Impressionist artists were not acknowledged by the art critics but even though Impressionism was not seen as an important style of art, they had support and reassurance from other creative figures. Edmond Duranty described the Impressionist style as one that portrayed a contemporary figure in a innovative way in his 1876 essay called La Nouvelle Peinture. The artists avoided choosing a name for themselves to avoid implying a collective movement or school but eventually some accepted the the term, Impressionists. DNA and histones co exist as a closely associated and highly coiled structure. The purpose of such a structural organization is to compact DNA; which would otherwise be too long to be accommodated within the restricted boundaries of a single cell. Core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and Linker histones (H1) are the two types that this unique proteinis composed of. This C terminal domain is arranged as a ОІ hairpin motif associated with three О± helices. The C terminal is lined with Lysine residues with alternating Alanine residues. The amino acid constitution of the N and C terminals of this linker histone is detrimental for chromatin folding. The N terminal region is composed of hydrophobic residues and the globular domain is made up of mostly basic amino acids; however the exact composition still remains to be characterized. Research has revealed the C terminal domain by itself is able to bring about an efficient amount of chromatin fiber folding as the native H1 protein. The theme of the rhyme is to ignore name calling and other vicious attempts to vocally harm a person, since words will never get to them like physical violence will (i.e. broken bones). However, the theme of the short story proves otherwise. Lewis, the main character, was bullied as a child. He s damaged from the experience both mentally and physically. Techniques Used For Air Navigation Essay The techniques used for air navigation will depend on whether the aircraft is in flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) or Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). In the latter case, the pilot will navigate exclusively using radio navigation instruments and aids such as beacons, or as directed under radar control by air traffic control. In the case of VFR, a pilot navigates heavily using dead calculations combined with visual (pilot) observations, referring to appropriate maps. This can be supplemented using radio navigation aids. Given the flight plan and the position of the aircraft, the flight management system calculates the route to be taken. The driver can take this course manually, or the autopilot can be configured to take the course. The flight management system mode is normally called LNAV or lateral navigation for the lateral flight plan and VNAV or vertical navigation for the vertical flight plan. VNAV provides targets and speeds of height and altitude, and LNAV provides a balanced control of automatic piloting. The next art is democratic deliberation, where students discuss each option and judge it in relation to the group s goal. Essayist, David Foster Wallace, in his essay This is Water , addresses the importance of awareness and perceptiveness of others. He believes this and the proper education can help you become well adjusted to the world around you. He adopts a humorous and important tone in order to accomplish his rhetorical purpose. Wallace establishes a humorous tone in the first section to convey his argument. There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (233) This anecdote brings awareness to the fact the many people don t understand what is going on around them and why Wallace believes it is important to be conscious of what is happening around you. This is not a matter of virtue...and to see and interpret everything through this lens of self. (233) Wallace states that it is hard to get into a state of awareness because humans have their hard wired default setting . People need to get out of their own self centered habits and see things in a different point of view. By using a humorous tone, Wallace can effectively get people on his side of the argument. • 40. Key Elements Of A Stress Management Program 1.Three things are necessary for stress to occur: a stressor, a perception of stress, and a stress response. The three main elements of a stress management program include the elimination /modification/reduction of the number of stressors, an alteration of our perceptions, and the reduction/modification/control of the stressresponse. 2.Often, when we think of stress, we automatically think of the bad kind. In all reality, stress isn t always a bad thing; it is just the body s response to changes that create some demands in our lives. There are many different positive stressors that are short term and motivate us as we work to improve our performance in our day to day lives. It is important to note that these positive stressors have the potential to cause some distress at a certain point. There is a peak at which stress switches from eustress to distress. Eustress or good stress increases performance up to the peak. Once the peak is reached, distress or bad stress kicks in and performance declines. When that certain amount of stress is reached and the tipping point occurs, we may need to use various stress management strategies to help us get back on the right track and alleviate some of this distress we are feeling. 3.Stress, to a certain degree, is a necessity in our lives. It gives us precious, powerful fight or flight hormones that have the ability to keep us safe in times of danger. Along with that, small amounts of stress often help us perform tasks more ... Exhibit 5 shows the graphs for finger height and pod weight in each shift. The pod weight graphs for Shift A, B and C shows that processes are in control. A World Of Difference In James Sire s The Universe Next Door A World of Difference (Introduction): In the book The Universe Next Door written by James Sire begins with a brief explanation of what a Worldview is. As stated in the book by Sire, The essence of a worldview lies deep in the inner recesses of the human self. A Worldview involves the mind, but it is first of all a commitment, a matter of the soul. It is spiritual orientation more than it is a matter of mind alone (pg.20, Sire). The author states that it is from the heart that all one s thoughts and actions proceed. The basis of the introduction of Sire s book is answering the seven basic questions of worldview, including what is prime reality the really real? what is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us? what is a human being? what happens to a person after death? Why is it possible to know anything at all? And finally, how do we know what is right and wrong? (pg.22). Also, the author asserts that by being able to answer some or many of the seven worldview questions that an individual has, then people can form their own worldviews for themselves. Sire discusses nine different worldviews by answering those seven questions, explaining them and depicting what each worldview system believes and does not. Thus, Sire closes the introduction of the book with two questions, Which is your universe? And Which are the universes next door? (pg. 24 Sire). Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better understand the emotion of this short story. Fred Feldman argues that it is bad for the person who dies because it deprives the person of good things that would have happened if he or she had lived. This argument takes more of a what if? standpoint, and is weak. A stronger belief, held by Lucretius in his essay The Mind and the Spirit Will Die , is that deathis not bad for the one who is dead because the spirit is composed of matter incapable of surviving without the body, and therefore, when one dies they can no longer suffer. Therefore, young John Doe s death of being run over by a trolley and dying is not bad for him. The mind is physical and composed of matter. Lucretius considers the situation of when the body is infected by illness to provide an example that proves this. When the body is infected by a contagion, the mind is often affected as well. For example, the mind can speak foolishly, or distractedly, and one can doze off due to drowsiness, where they are not yet awake or asleep and not hear voices or recognize faces around them, or in a coma, shut off and not be alive or dead. Because the mind is obviously invaded by the disease, it must be destructible. Therefore, if the mind is destructible, and can be affected to violent illnesses, it is hard to believe that it can survive in open air without a body to protect it. Lucretius also considers an objection to this claim, and suggest a world in which the spirit or mind is immortal. If the body has five senses, the mind must as well. However, a spirit, departed from the body, cannot have bodily parts like eyes, a nose, a hand, etc. and without these it cannot perceive the senses or be sentient or exist. In addition, he questioned, that if the spirit is a immortal and slipped into the body at birth, why does it not have any memory of its earlier existence? If it has no memory of its previous existence, then it must be a new creation and be able to be born, like the body, and previous spirits must die and die with the body. Furthermore, if the spirit existed before the body, it would contradict the fact that the mind and body are one in the same and grow together if the spirit had a prior existence. As a result, the center of the muscle is shortened, balled up, and pulled away from connective tissue which connects/holds muscles to the joints. This is called muscle hypertrophy. Science has shown that it can have an adverse effect on athletic movement. This puts more stress on the ligaments and tendons and causes muscular imbalances. Compare the way a human body is made to a trampoline. A trampoline has a webbing or net in the middle which we jump on. All of the focus and attention is usually on the net, similar to how most of the attention is usually put on the size of the athlete s muscles. But what is actually firing or creating most of the power? Is it the webbing or the springs? Think about it, the springs that are connected to the skeleton of the trampoline are actually absorbing most of the shock applied to the trampoline. The springs reverse that energy and catapults a person high into the air. So we have a net, that is connected to a spring, that is connected to the skeleton of the trampoline. The human body is made the same way. We have muscles that are attached to ligaments and tendons that are connected to skeletal bone. Our philosophy of power is this: plyometrics has proven to be the best way to improve muscle elasticity and connective tissue strength. There is also a timing that comes along with plyometric ...
