UAVs, or drones, are unmanned aerial vehicles that can be programmed to autonomously capture aerial imagery. Modern UAVs take overlapping photos at regular intervals during flight. These photos are then processed using software and GCPs to create high-resolution orthomosaics and elevation models. UAVs are increasingly being used for applications like property assessment, disaster response, and construction volume calculations due to their ability to efficiently collect accurate geospatial data. Regulations require all commercial UAV pilots to be licensed through the FAA.
