Visual language is an important part of the curriculum that engages students because images are such a big part of their world through technology. Some ways to incorporate visual language into lessons include having students: 1) Summarize paragraphs from a story by writing one word or phrase and drawing a matching picture; 2) Illustrate quotes to practice handwriting; 3) Create comic strips to write or publish stories. It is important for students to develop visual literacy to comprehend messages from images in both their academic work and the real world.
