2. “This is What I Feel “
I feel much more empathetic towards the child and the
mother as both of them have hearing impairments. They
are vulnerable and the impairment might sometimes
matters to their success negatively. At this point Maria is
successful as she could escape with her baby from danger,
and found their survival. But now again as they have to
face unpredictable situation in life. Unfortunately, child’s
mom is sixteen years and she might have the capacity to
be fallen into a difficult situation as she needs to fulfil
immense responsibilities in life, but there is no additional
help to bring up her baby.

3. She Really Needs Help!!!!!
 In reality this mother always requires help and
assistance to live the life with her four months old
infant. She also has the problem of bringing up her
child and maintain her family expences.Thus she needs
financial assistance too.

4. The issues concern in the child’s
life are;
 Child’s mother being a teenager and she needs
assistance to make her baby’s life successful.
 Mother has a hearing impairment and it affects her daily
routine with a four months old infant. Her impairment
should be supported with proper diagnosis, followed up
by hearing aids.

5. Child’s mom is confused of what
happened to her????
 Child’s family is lost and they faced an attack, so that
the mother must have been in a crucial situation with a
poor mental status.
 She too might be daydreaming of a better life Therefore;
the family should be assisted immediately.
 In reality the family shifted to another region, leaving
everything they owned before. Now she faces troubles
as she lost her belongings necessary for their daily
routine.

6. She Needs Help as She is
lonely!!!
 The child is alone with her mother as she is the only
caregiver, and mother became a isolated from her family
members and lead a kind of life full of loneliness, with a
hearing impairment.
 Consultations, and home visits are required at this
point.
 When the baby cries at night and the mother sacrifices
herself with sleepless nights, wakes up very often as she
does not hear the child’s cry.
 Therefore a certain technique needs to be implemented
to get away from the difficulty.

 As she cannot get the services of the local clinic as she
has hearing impairememt.
 She needs the service of an interpreter to communicate
with the doctor and others.
 The baby needs to be diagnosed with appropriate
hearing tests, suitable for the age.

9. Hearing Tests are Important!
 In the first few years of life, hearing is a critical
important part of kids' social, emotional, and cognitive
development. Even a mild or partial hearing loss can
affect a child's ability to speak and understand language.
 The good news is, hearing problems can be treated if
they're caught early and ideally by the time a baby is 3
months old. So it's important to get your child's hearing
screened early and regularly.

10. Get to know What Causes are of
Hearing Impairments.
 Child is diagnosed to be deaf, still the child needs to be
diagnosed further to decide by Brain Stem Evoke
Response(to find the degree of abnormality of whether
he is deaf or not,
 show him to ENT and get diagnosed to find out defect in
conduction(to do the surgery, cochlear implant)) or in
the nerve (year phone-hearing aids)
 If found deafness audiogram(hearing for the
frequencies, but for a infant of 4 months cannot be
conducted.

11. Proper Diagnosis is Essential for
Proper Care !
 CHL (conduction hearing loss)that results from obstruction
of the auditory canal because of cerumen(wax) or a foreign
body. It can be treated by removing the obstruction.
 Infection is treated by giving antibiotics by an ENT Or
an otolaryngologist .
 SNHL(Sensory Neural Hearing Loss) cannot be medically
treated.
 In mild-to-moderate hearing loss, amplification with
hearing aids is used to give the child as much auditory input
as possible.
 Speech therapy may be beneficial. If the child requires
special schooling, the school should determine how much
speech training is routinely part of the school day.

12. 3.As an ECE I Must be Aware of
the Needs
 We as caregivers have the ability to talk to the parent
regarding the hearing impairment of the child as sometimes
hearing loss in young children is temporary, caused by a
cold or ear infection.
 Another fact is that many causes of hearing loss in young
children can be treated.
 Age appropriate activities could be planned and
implemented such children’s communicating,
interpretation of feelings and acquiring cognitive skills and
increase use of other senses are obvious in children.
 In addition they can still live an active, normal lives(Lisa
class notes). Plan activities to meet the Infant needs such
as physical, cognitive impaired and social skills and so on.

13. Be Aware to Find out Whether
the Baby is Heard
 Find out whether the baby is heard. When the baby is a
bit older, between four and six months, she should have
some head control.
 Call her name to see if she turns towards you or reacts
to your voice. She might also turn her eyes or head to
look for an interesting sound.
 As hearing and talking are linked, by four months your
baby should start to make cooing sounds and other
noises.
