1) A plane carrying members of a Uruguayan rugby team crashed in the Andes mountains. Of the 45 people on board, 17 died initially or soon after. The survivors had little supplies and faced starvation. 2) After many died from injuries and exposure, the survivors resorted to cannibalism of the deceased to survive. Several attempts to hike out and find help failed. 3) Eventually, three survivors hiked for over 10 days and were able to flag down help, leading to a rescue of the remaining 16 survivors after over two months stranded in the mountains.
