II. Objectives:
Cognitive:
• Define what library is.
• Identify different sections of the library.
• Identify and explain different kinds of reference material in the library.
• Differentiate the use of OPAC and Card Catalog.
• Identify the use of Dewey Decimal System.
Affective:
• Appreciate the significance of using the library in conducting research and independent
reading.
• Appreciate the importance of library personnel.
• Show respect while exploring the library.
Psychomotor:
• Write a short description of different sections in the library.
• Visit different libraries of NDU (ETD, JHS and Main library)
• Interview the library personnel/staff and write a short description of what library
personnel do.
• Fill out library card.
• Explore the use of OPAC through hands-on.
III. Learning Procedure
A. Preliminaries: Prayer
Greetings
Checking of attendance
1. Review: Call the assigned person to do the review.
2. Motivation:
ASK: When you have an assignment, where do you usually go?
B. Lesson Proper
1. Presentation
The teacher shall present the topic and objectives.
Let the students think of a word or phrase that would describe what library is
using the Spider Web.

2. Activity
Devide the class into five groups. The class will visit different libraries of Notre Dame
University (ETD, JHS and Main library).
TASKS:
1. a library has a personnel/staff that maintain its organization and order. Try to know the library
personnel/staff and write down their names. Include a brief description of what they do as library
personnel/staff. Only the leader and secretary of each group will conduct the interview.

• Student librarian
2. Observe and identify the different reference materials and sections of the library. Make a
description.
3. Identify the similarities and differences of each library.
NOTE: Orient the students on the Do’s and Don’ts before exploring the library.

While in the library
Let the students explore the use of Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
After the activity
Each group will share to the class their experiences and observation while in the library.
The group leaders and secretary will share their experiences during their interview with the library
personnel.

Assess students’ answers particularly the different reference materials and sections
found in the library. Ask students what general references they have used in the library.
Show an enlarged replica of different kinds of card catalog (author, subject and title
card). Let the students differentiate the use of card catalog and Online Public Access Catalog
(OPAC).
Introduce the Dewy Decimal System (DDC) and its proponent. Ask: what is the use of
DDC.
4. Values Integration
Explain the importance of using the library in conducting research and independent
reading. Also, explain the importance of the library personnel.
