Architecture is the art of designing and constructing structures and other built environments. It serves both practical and aesthetic purposes. Some notable examples of architecture in the Philippines include the San Agustin Church in Manila, built in 1571 as the first church on Luzon; the Paoay Church, known for its Earthquake Baroque style; and the Banaue Rice Terraces, an example of indigenous architecture carved into the mountains. Pablo Antonio was a pioneering Filipino architect who rose to prominence in the early 20th century, while Juan Arellano designed the neoclassical Manila Central Post Office and Leandro Locsin left his mark through churches, buildings, and landmarks like the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
