Leonardo Da Vinci's famous piece was The Last Supper, painted in Milan for Duke Ludovico Sforza and his wife Beatrice d'Este between 1495-1498. It depicts the biblical scene from the Gospel of John of Jesus announcing one of his apostles would betray him. The Duke commissioned the piece and Leonardo, not one to turn down work, painted the religious scene. The fresco was intended for Catholic and Christian audiences. Unlike traditional frescoes, Leonardo used experimental pigments directly on the dry wall rather than mixing them with wet plaster.
