Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was an influential Italian polymath of the High Renaissance born in 1475 who was considered the greatest living artist of his time. As a sculptor, painter, architect, poet and engineer, Michelangelo created seminal works such as the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment, as well as designing St. Peter's Basilica. His artistic skills in multiple disciplines had an unparalleled influence on the development of Western art.
