Throughout American history, quilting has been a major part of African American
culture. Starting at the time of slavery to relay information about safe routes in the
Underground Railroad, this tradition has continued and has begun to take on many
different levels of significance to this community. Used as a tool to escape racial
persecution throughout history physically and mentally, quilting has acted as an
art that transcends racial barriers and to bring the races together in a positive way.
In The Century Quilt , poet Marilyn Nelson Waniek develops complex meanings of
the quilt using the literary devices of color symbolism, time shifts, and a warm
atmosphere to effectively demonstrate the theme of love in families transcending
the idea of race. Color drives a significant amount of the meaning in this poem, as
the idea is used in describing the characters and objects throughout the poem and in
creating the atmosphere of the work. This was especially prevalent in the
description of the quilt in lines 15 through 17 as having Van Dyke brown squares ,
white squares , and one square the yellow brown of Mama s cheeks . By having

The film Memento, directed by Christopher Nolan, is an American neo noir,
mystery psychological thriller film that was released in cinemas in the year 2000.
The movie was inspired and based off one of Nolan s younger brother s short story;
Memento Mori. Despite not widely known, the movie is critically acclaimed for
what it was able to accomplish. The movie did not do well in theaters nor were its
box office statistics notable, however the movie is well received by critics and
cinema centric websites. Memento is astounding and astounding film because of its
innovative use of narration and creative mystery that requires multiple viewings. ...
The film has one overall branching storyline but is told through two different time
lines. The film begins at the end of the story and is told backwards, colored, in
fifteen minute intervals. Each scene going backwards is told in these specific
intervals to juxtapose Leonard s condition, where the overall storyline is confusing
and doesn t make a lot of sense, similar to how Leonard feels constantly. And his
general length of memory is also about fifteen minute parallel to the lengths of
scenes in the movie. While most of the plot is told backwards and new information
is revealed in these intervals, the story s reverse order sequence is broken off and
alternated by no color, black and white scenes. These scenes are shown interchanged
with the main backwards plot and alternate every scene. The colorless parts are
depicted in standard chronological order to give the story better overall rhythm. As
the main story is nonlinear, the plot starts to become more and more difficult to
understand, so the director uses related black and white scenes that connect with the
colored story line. This structure is used to keep the flow consistent. In written
material sentences are usually structured so that old previously established
information is shown at the beginning of the sentence and new, untold information is

Languages of Another Assimilating into this melting pot that we call America
may be a walk in the park to some but to others, there is a high barrier that blocks
the doorway like a security guard to the trendiest club in Los Angeles. As easy as it
may be for some to come up to the front of the line and walk right through the red
rope, there are others who are not as lucky. Most people much like you and I, have to
wait in a long line and pay their way through. Whether a native on this land or an
immigrant from another country, languageis a very powerful tool required in order for
one to be successful here in America. There is a high price of hard work and
determination that can pay the cost of making this success a reality. I was born
and raised as a Filipino American in a household full of Filipinos who mainly
spoke the Kapangpangan language. My parents were both born in the Philippines
and when they were in their 30 s, came to start a new life in Oakland, California.

Part One: Background and History Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC. is a
production company based in Austin, Texas. It was officially established April 1st,
2003; although, the company made video production content, such as parodies and
short movies, before then. The history of Rooster Teeth starts at the University of
Texas in the mid 1990s. Three friends, Michael Burnie Burns, Matt Hullum, and
Joel Heyman were friends who attended the university in Austin. They were not the
best students, and they were worried the high paying technology jobs, that were
growing increasingly popular at the time, were out of their reach. So, as an attempt
to get themselves noticed in the industry, they decided to make a short film
together. The film was called The Schedule; Burns and Hullum directed it while
Heyman played the lead role. The three of them brought their film to several
festivals, and they received some minor recognition. In fact, it prompted Heyman to
move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting, and Hullum decided to follow his
heart (i.e. Joel) (roosterteeth.com) and decided to move there as well to work in
visual effects. Burns stayed in Austin, where he started working at a tech support
center, and where he eventually became Director of Operations. At this point in time,
