- #3 With the Internet maturing both technologically and in the users experience in recent years, especially since the explosion of Web 2.0 tools from 2004 onwards,We now live in a world where the ability to communicate easily with technology has become a commonplace feature of most peoples lives.No longer restricted to printed material and a regular classroom slot, the use of multimedia, social media, online apps and mobile technology has extended the opportunity for learning outside of the classroom with web based and mobile learning.
- #4 Additionally there has been an explosion of interest in the making and sharing of Open educational resources and the coming together to learn in MOOC’s, Massive Open Online Courses
- #5 Compared to previous generations We have much more readily available Interactive whiteboards and projectors in the classroom and technology in and outside of the classroom such as cameras, video cameras, microphones and webcams.
- #7 Sarker et al. highlighted many areas that offer challenges in the future, adopting emerging technology was one challenge and the importance of this is underlined in how it influences other areas that are also part of the challenges that higher education faces. This list gives a good idea of the significant areas that are affected, ther are many others.
