Following on from our last webinar on Sharing our TinCan/xAPI@Work Journey, we give an update on creating a working proof of concept for TinCan/xAPI. Dr Kirsty Kitto will presents on the work being done in developing a toolkit, which uses xAPI to store data about student participation in learning activities designed using standard social media tools such as Facebook etc.
We discuss:
What is the status of adoption of TinCan/xAPI in the industry ? How fast or slowly is it moving now ?What can you realistically achieve now with xAPI ? What is the road map you need to take ?Are there opportunities for the corporate and education sectors to collaborate to increase adoption ?

Algorithmic Accountability & Learning Analytics
Simon Buckingham Shum
Connected Intelligence Centre, University of Technology Sydney
ABSTRACT. As algorithms pervade societal life, they are moving from the preserve of computer science to becoming the object of far wider academic and media attention. Many are now asking how the behaviour of algorithms can be made “accountable”. But why are they “opaque” and to whom? As this vital discussion unfolds in relation to Big Data in general, the Learning Analytics community must articulate what would count as meaningful questions and satisfactory answers in educational contexts. In this talk, I propose different lenses that we can bring to bear on a given learning analytics tool, to ask what it would mean for it to be accountable, and to whom. From a Human-Centred Informatics perspective, it turns out that algorithmic accountability may be the wrong focus.
BIO. Simon Buckingham Shum is Professor of Learning Informatics at the University of Technology Sydney, which he joined in August 2014 to direct the new Connected Intelligence Centre. Prior to that he was at The Open University’s Knowledge Media Institute 1995-2014. He brings a Human-Centred Informatics (HCI) approach to his work, with a background in Psychology (BSc, York), Ergonomics (MSc, London) and HCI (PhD, York) where he worked with Rank Xerox Cambridge EuroPARC on Design Rationale. He co-edited Visualizing Argumentation (2003) followed by Knowledge Cartography (2008, 2nd Edn. 2014), and with Al Selvin wrote Constructing Knowledge Art (2015). Abstract: Those institutions that have pivoted rapidly from teaching face-to face to teaching fully online have learned many lessons over the last 18 months, both good and bad. But for some, this has been nothing new, instead it’s simply been business as usual. We have seen that those who fared better have well established frameworks in place to mediate their technology-enhanced learning offerings. That is, they have recognised processes that define how they translate what they have in policy, procedures and planning into practice. Such a framework can be found within a number of quality tools, that are designed to provide institutions with clear guidelines as to what need to be in place to facilitate a robust and consistent approach to teaching with technology. Once present, it makes it easier to undertake online teaching that does more than just mimic face-to-face practice, providing a robust platform to allow innovative pedagogies to thrive. Typically, this means the online learning has, or can become far more, active, collaborative and authentic. This presentation with share some of the things that have been observed across the higher education sector over the last 18 moths that we can all learn from.
Interestingly, what was conceived as being good online learning pedagogy, say 5 years ago, is now being challenged by newer student-centred approaches that have evolved in learning and teaching, linked with the new technologies that have advanced to help us do this. These technologies now allow students to work more collaboratively in more authentic ways. That is, how they might work collaboratively in the workplace. What has also changed is the emphasis on the student and how providing them with a greater level of agency in their learning presents more traditional educators with new challenges. This presentation looks at some options for those looking to understand and meet those challenges head-on. We will consider how changing just one or two assessments to be more authentic, in the first instance, may help you recreate your practice over time. Who knows, some of the student-centred learning approaches suggested may even make your assessments more robust, with students less likely to want to cheat. Either way, engaging with more contemporary learning technologies may allow students to experience a range of authentic solutions that you might also benefit from in the future.

Mandatory learning including compliance courses has been the engine that has driven the adoption of eLearning as it provides trackable, cost effective and a scalable solution to ensure that employees have acquired essential knowledge.
Mandatory learning however rarely addresses the higher level skills and mindsets required by organisations to stay ahead of the competition today such as innovation, resilience, customer centricity etc. Social, informal and workplace learning falls in the discretionary category and have a poor track record in most organisations. So where does Australian organisational learning stand on the world stage. Are we aspiring for excellence or just cruising? Is the tall poppy syndrome at work? The Australian academic sector (Universities and Schools) has a structured and focused approach to defining what excellence in learning means and how to achieve it. This approach seems to be missing in organisational and corporate learning. Maybe we are running so fast that we may never stop to improve our running technique. We talk to an experienced panel that architect and manage Learning in their organisations to deliver business results. We will ask what Learning excellence means to them and how they plan to get there

Ex Assembly - Using Workforce Analytics for Employee Experience EffectivenessLearningCafe
Pundits have identified Employee Experience (EX) as one of the top priorities for HR. A lot of the science and art of EX is based on the Customer Experience (CX) approach, which makes extensive use of data to understand the customer and identify their needs and aspirations.
Workforce/people data has been notoriously siloed (in HRMS, CRM, Intranets, etc.) and are often unreliable and outdated. Is it possible to achieve good Employee Experience when Workforce/people data is not up to scratch?
In this “free-range” online discussion we have a chat with a panel of CX, EX and Analytics experts about the better practices, challenges and opportunities for the use of HR/People Analytics for better EX design and implementation.

Using Agile Methods for HR & Learning ProjectsLearningCafe
The Agile Manifesto released in 2001, outlined a more flexible approach to software development based iterative development, where solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing cross-functional teams.Since then, Agile methods (an umbrella term covering SCRUM, KanBan, Extreme Programming etc) have been extensively used in IT are increasingly being used in other domains such as marketing and HR/L&D.
While Agile methods are malleable to work in other domains, its basics principles and philosophy may not mesh well in “top-down” hierarchical organisations. In this webinar, an experienced panel explores the opportunities for using Agile methods in HR/L&D and the challenges faced.

L&D Needs to Build Ecosystems for the Future of WorkLearningCafe
Work is becoming more interconnected as the pace of business increases. The Future of work promises to be one that is very different from today. LearningCafe considers that the simple view of organisational learning needs to evolve from a stand alone and linear view to one that recognises this interconnectedness and complexity involved in designing and implementing Learning/HR solutions.
Taking an ecosystem view removes the siloed thinking and recognises the connections, constraints and trade offs involved in designing effective Learning solutions.
In this webinar we discuss with an experienced panel about the Learning ecosystems and how it practically manifests itself in our day to day work.

There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
In the Adani-Hindenburg case, what is SEBI investigating.pptxAdani case
Adani SEBI investigation revealed that the latter had sought information from five foreign jurisdictions concerning the holdings of the firm’s foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in relation to the alleged violations of the MPS Regulations. Nevertheless, the economic interest of the twelve FPIs based in tax haven jurisdictions still needs to be determined. The Adani Group firms classed these FPIs as public shareholders. According to Hindenburg, FPIs were used to get around regulatory standards.

52. What is status of
adoption of
TinCan/xAPI in the
industry ? Is it a lot
of hype or is there
substance ?
One thing I'm keen to
utilise xAPI for, is to
create internally hosted
websites on a topic,
using all the power,
possibilities and
interactivity the html
format gives us - and
then using xAPI to
track back who has
done what.

ultimately -
replace an LMS?
2 - is there an app
to show my (a
student's) results
and records from
an LRS?
