This document discusses learning analytics and provides examples of how data collected from online learning activities can be used to improve the learning process. It describes how learning analytics involves collecting trace data from learners and using that data to enhance learning. Examples are given of dashboards and visualizations that have been developed to provide awareness, reflection, and insights to learners and instructors based on analytics of online behaviors and activities. Issues around privacy, architecture, and what and how to measure learning outcomes are also addressed.
