• Initiated the in early ‘90s by RAJUK .
• Originally designed to prepare a set of three hierarchical plans.
Structure Plan (SP)
Master Plan/Urban Area Plan (UAP)
Detailed Area Plans (DAP)
• Lack of fund force to shut the project down without preparing DAP in 1995.
DMDP
• Structure Plan sets a 20 year(1995-2015) long term development strategy for Dhaka
metro. of 1528 sq.km of RAJUK area allowing projected population of 15 million.
• Identifies the order of magnitude and the direction of anticipated urban growth and
sets forth a series of policy guidelines for achieving the overall plan objectives.
• Marked 26 Spatial Planning Zones (SPZ) for preparation of DAP.
SP
• Urban Area Plan proposed a mid-term strategy for 10 years (1995-2005) for the
development of urban area within the RAJUK administrative boundary.
UAP
• Detail Area Plan started in July 2004 aimed for detailed planning.
• A local level plan providing the land use policies, infrastructure and utility services.
• Objectives are to implement the provisions of the DMDP Structure Plan and Urban
Area Plan policies and recommendations by conducting detailed surveys, studies
and analysis of the study area through community participation.

Shortcomings
18 Land Use Zones
